Continental, United put some jets on ice
A couple of the big airlines are cooling their jets, mostly because of fuel prices but also because they're cutting back on schedules. Continental is retiring 67 Boeing 737-300 and 737-500s beginning in September. United, meanwhile, is parking its entire fleet of 737s and doing away with Ted, the airline's low-fare brand.
Continental is also slashing some 3,000 jobs. Yikes. Oil prices are hitting home in a big way for travelers. Fewer planes means fewer routes and fewer options. The number of seats available from BWI is down nearly 10%, according to USA Today, which has a nifty graphic showing how the changes are affecting airports from state to state.
