American says bring it on
Boy, if you were steamed about paying for that second checked bag, you're gonna explode when you hear that American Airlines is going to start charging passengers $15 for the first checked bag. You heard right. Beginning June 15, checking any bag is gonna cost you.
I can already see a version of Fight Club taking place in the aisles over who gets the overhead bin. I say bag the bags. Get creative. Here are the options: Travel naked (you already took off your shoes) - or arrive at the airport already wearing every piece of clothing you'll need on vacation. Which is it gonna be?

I ask how much delay this is going to add at the check-in counter, when airline reps have to double as cashiers...

This is so backwards! Either raise the ticket prices, if you need the cash, and let us decide if we can afford it and supply and demand takes over, or consider the hassles of all those unchecked bags cluttering up the cabin!
The main reason I check bags now is the liquid ban -- I don't want to bring small sizes of everything I use.
Something about a forest and some trees ...

This is absolutely ridiculous. American Airlines is going to lose so much business over this that it is not even funny.
I bet the next article we see says "American Airlines... OUT OF BUSINESS!"

Unbelievable. Greyhound is beginning to look pretty darn good.

Why don't they just raise the fares all around? I think it just aggravates people when they add a charge to a particular service.
I'm with you. I think travelers would be somewhat more understanding of higher fares than all of these add-on fees. -MDZ
