First air show a real hit

There was barely any room to walk down the Boardwalk near 17th Street yesterday as crowds packed the boards for the first day of the Ocean City Air Show.

An F-15, an F-16, skywriters and stunt planes entertained all morning and afternoon. The show continues today.

I snapped some photos. Here are my favorite shots:

Crowds look up as the US Army Golden Knights parachute team jump from a plane.

The Watermiller Edge 540 spirals up into the sky.

People swam in the ocean as performances continued, including one by the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Cap 580.

The Geico skywriters pass over the crowd on their way to their performance over the ocean.

A USAF F-15 Eagle performed for roughly 20 minutes. The show was deafening and the best part of the day.

To end the day, the F-15, F-16, P-51 and F-86 flew together in the Heritage Flight.

I hope they bring the OC Air Show back next year. There seemed to be a good showing of businesses, and fans in the crowd were excited by the show.

It's a good event for Ocean City and it adds a new element to the normal summer schedule. I'm sorry, but having the Beach Boys concert as the biggest non-fishing event in OC just doesn't cut it for many of us.
