TNA Destination X results

I didn’t watch TNA’s Destination X pay-per-view Sunday night, but here are the results, courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

• A.J. Styles defeated Christopher Daniels

• Brian Kendrick defeated TNA X Division champion Abyss to win the title

• Rob Van Dam defeated Jerry Lynn

• Kazarian defeated Samoa Joe

• Austin Aries defeated Low-Ki, Jack Evans and Zema Ion to win a TNA contract

• Alex Shelley defeated Shannon Moore, Amazing Red and Robbie E. in the Ultimate X match to determine the No. 1 contender for the X Division title

• Douglas Williams defeated Mark Haskins

• Eric Young and Shark Boy defeated Generation Me

Quick hits: I was glad that Daniels did not turn heel on Styles. We’ve already seen Daniels turn on his real-life best friend and feud with him in the past, so it’s not like it would be fresh. ... It’s nice that the X Division title is back around the waist of an actual X Division wrestler, and Kendrick is certainly a talented performer. However, he was made to look so weak in the buildup to this match that putting the belt on him now just weakens the title, in my opinion. ... Aries is the guy I expected to win the contract and he is probably the best all-around performer of the four guys that were in the match, but I’d love to see TNA sign Low-Ki and Evans as well. I don’t know enough about Ion to have an opinion on him. ... Shelley was the right guy to go over in the Ultimate X match. He dedicated his victory to his injured tag team partner, Chris Sabin, who celebrated in the ring with Shelley after the match. ... I was shaking my head when I read that Generation Me jobbed to Young and Shark Boy, but with today’s news that Generation Me has requested and been granted their release, the result makes sense. ... Haskins, who answered Williams' open challenge, is a native of England who wrestled on TNA's European tour earlier this year.

Your turn: For those of you who watched Destination X, what did you think of it?

this ppv was better than any ppv they had this year,no bad matches but a slow start for each one and bad ending i mean how they ended it with their move
also the fatal four way for tna contract stole the show especially evan

Best Wrestling PPV I've seen all year. Consider that I haven't watched Impact in about 3 months, but I had been reading about the all X-Division PPV and it got my interest. This is right up there with the Whole F'n Show Impact from last year... hell maybe even better. It's interesting to note that the worst match on the card (and the only bad match really) was the X-Division title match. Abyss has no business being on this PPV and the way that the end was booked made Kendrick look weak as all hell.

Match of the night was easily the four-way for the TNA contract. When the match started there was a "EVERYBODY!" chant and later on "SIGN THEM ALL!!" Lots of killer spots, a constant frantic pace, false finish galore. This is the kind of match that I picture in my head when I think of the company's name. Total Nonstop Action indeed.

Second best match was AJ and Daniels. It may be impossible for these two to put on a bad match.

The Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn match got pretty hardcore in the end. Lynn was playing a heelish role in the match. There was a brutal spot near the end where Lynn brought in a chair and while RVD was going for a Vandaminator, Lynn ducks and lays the chair on the matt, avoids a subsequent kick and then while RVD is recovering Lynn leg drops RVD's head onto the chair, busting him open. That was followed up by another brutal spot where Lynn throws RVD from the corner in a powerbomb position and the back of RVD's head lands on the chair. It looked sick and I would be really surprised if RVD didn't get a concussion from that.

I have to say, even the Generation Me vs Eric Young and Shark Boy match was entertaining. Eric Young won the match with an impressive looking wheelbarrow-into-a-falling-neckbreaker maneuver.

Mark Haskins put in a good showing against Doug Williams. When the match started there was a "WHO ARE YOU?" chant but Haskins won over the crowd.

When this comes out on dvd I'm so gonna buy it. If TNA put on more events like this and less of the crap they have on Impact, I'd be a convert.

I'm gonna go on record Eck and say that you more than likely missed the BEST TNA PPV there has been in a while! It will probably be the best one of the year.

PPV was AWESOME! Hands down one of the best I've seen in a long time.

I love the feel of the six side ring... I get TNA wanted a more traditional ring and I like it well enough, but they should bring it back every once in awhile at least... the only problem with it is that I'm not entirely sure all the wrestlers were used to it any more as there were some awkward and botched moves.. but not enough to take away from the quality.

The Samoa Joe/Kaz ending was booked kind of weak as was the Douglas Williams match but it was still decent. (both ended up in a "surprise" roll up pin) I think Joe needs a stronger push. Make him the bad ass he was back in the day.

The AJ and Daniels match was okay, but it wasn't nearly main event status.... I was actually let down by the pacing as they had each other grounded to the mat for the majority of the match and it only picked up SORT OF the last few minutes..

The contract mach stole the show, hands down!! It was as insane as the four matches on the previous Impacts. I'm glad Aries won as well.. I think they should just sign all of them... with Gen Me and Orlando gone.. that might make a little room for a couple more contracts.. but that's probably just wishful thinking! I don't know a whole lot about Ion either but the dude has major charisma and talent in my opinion... Side note: I about died laughing when Aries called the people out who was watching it on an illegal stream...

Immortal coming in on the title match made total sense from a storyline sense. So I wasn’t too surprised seeing them run in. I loved the ending to it how the whole X-Division came in to help fend off Immortal. I think that gives some strength back to the title. It was an epic moment in my opinion.

The Ultimate X match was pretty good... I'm glad Shelley won it.. I'd love to see the belt on him or Aries. Though I'd rather see him work for it before anything.

I liked the tag match well enough.. and it seemed EY toned his shtick down a bit and actually wrestled (I think. I kinda went and got a snack on this match) but I loved the fan service TNA gave us by having Curry Man, Suicide and Shark Boy there (the pop for Shark Boy was kinda crazy)

One of my biggest grips I had about the PPV was the announcers... I know Taz was out on an emergency (my best to him), but I think it would’ve been better if at least Don West was there for color.. Having JB and Mike there made the tone of the announcing a little too serious and dry. Don’t get me wrong, I love both of them but they are just too similar in style. It would seem that JB would be Tenay's replacement in an emergency if you know what I mean.

Another small grip is the event being held in the Impact Zone.. they promoted this PPV as a big deal, so they should've went on the road with it.. even if it's in a slightly smaller venue than the competition if it's money they are worried about. I'm glad they are taking some Impact events on the road.. but they need to do AT LEAST the same for their bigger PPVs

It was very cool, and featured some great spots all around. Samoa Joe and Kazarian were a good match---and Styles's Spiral Tap to end his match with Daniels was great to watch as well.
Also, RVD and Jerry Lynn put on the kind of show you'd expect from those two.
There was some interference from TNA'a dark side, most evident in the Kendrick/Abyss match, as Immortal slithered forth from Impact and to the ring to beat down Kendrick and ended up facing the X-Division guys---but other than that, you had the feeling that for one night you were getting a glimpse of what TNA could be, instead of what it will inevitably revert to come Thursday night's show.
The only drawback was that obviously, there was not a lot of story and script build-up to any of the matches, being that it was a one-off, but the in-ring performances were strong, and in a few spots, spectacular.
I can combine my comments about Gen-Me's release by saying that this coda to the whole thing was evidenced in that match. Young and Shark-Boy not only didn't belong on the PPV, but like the Immortal incident, it was an obvious intrusion of TNA creative's worse instincts still peeking out from their dark little hidey-holes in the middle of an otherwise great PPV. Gen Me, with some changes to character and presentation, (and name), and some strong storytelling, are the kind of guys that a sane creative team would want to keep around. It was sad to watch them job to a guy who has forsaken his World Elite days for being Jeff Jarrett's court jester, and another guy who was never anything but a poorly done, childish jab at WWE at his best.
That was the rub, I think. This was treated like a one-off to the TNA "originals", without recognizing that the best is what should have been showcased, and crap like Shark Boy was never part of the best. Despite that, the raw talent and potential of Styles, Joe, Aries, Daniels, Shelley and the rest shown through anyway, while also giving a nod to Lynn and RVD, who were two of the best of the company that largely inspired what would become the "X-Division", and they were allowed to showcase the actual meat of what made that other company special.
A great PPV, overall. Now back, (unfortunately), to your regularly scheduled programming,

Great ppv....great action...happy for Aries...Milwaukee's finest..

but since this ppv had some blasts from the past....Kev what happened to Petey Williams? Best finisher since the ddt...

best pay per view of the year, Impact Wrestling/YNA certainly lived up to their "Wrestling Matters" slogan, long may it continue.

The four way match for the contract was off the scale with lots of other strong action. Gen Me were made to look really weak but the crowd popped for Shark Boy and makes sense with what happened today.

They did a good job of making the X Division title seem like a really big deal after Kendrick won with the big celebration including the confetti and all the X division wrestlers. Although I agree Kendrick has ben booked weak recently the way the match went really benefitted with the DAvid v Goliath feeling and I would say I don't feel like he is a weak champion after the match.

I saw it and it was pretty good. The four way, AJ/Daniels, and ultimate x and X division title match were all good. I like how TNA started the PPV with the Joe/ Kaz and the RVD vs Jerry Lynn match were pretty good. I didn't expect RVD to bleed All of the matches were good. I don't order wrestling PPV much so it been a while. It was a good idea for an all X- Divison PPV and a good idea to bring back the six sides. I am looking forward to what TNA going to do next.

Kevin, this was a really, REALLY good PPV! The first I've ordered (WWE or TNA) in quite some time, and unlike some shows I've ordered in the past, I feel like I actually got my money's worth. AND I actually want to watch it again (I dvred it). Best match of the night (maybe MOTY) was the four-way contract match - INCREDIBLE!! Styles/Daniels was great (high spots, some classic moves, new spots, and great ring psychology - two true ARTISTS in the ring), RVD/Lynn was really good (a real treat to see those two at it again!)...hell, even the bonus Gen-Me/EY-Shark Boy match was entertaining! The only low points for me were the lackluster finish to the Ultimate X match and the guy that wrestled Douglas Williams. He wasn't bad, but he had a few botched spots and I think everyone was hoping for either Jay Lethal or Petey Williams. PLUS, no bizarre Russo crap or totally left field non-sensical swerves - what more could you ask for???

Destination X was a good PPV. I didn't miss not seeing Anderson, Sting, Angle, Jarrett, Hogan or Bischoff. It was a good old fashioned "Wrestling" PPV, and It didn't even matter who was a heel or a face. All that mattered is that everyone performed well and put on a good show.

Austin Aries is star in the making. Jack Evans is fun to watch, and Low Ki is still as good as ever. I agree both Evans and Low Ki should be signed as well, and with the Bucks getting released maybe this opens up some spots for them. The Bucks are talented and charismatic, but Jack Evans and Low Ki bring a a little more to the table than they do.

And hopefully TNA now realizes that only cruiserweights or smaller heavyweights should be involved in the X-Division. No limits is right, but no weight limits is wrong.

Ultimate X is fun to watch, however this one won't go down as one of the best though. I guess the most important thing is that each competitor came out in one piece.

And the match between AJ Styles and Daniels wasn't their best either. But it was a good, tough, hard fought match, and it was good that they got plenty of time to tell a story in and out of the ring. Each of them desrved to have a chance to showcase their talents.

I thought it was the best TNA show in a long time. The four way was awesome. I've seen some hate on it calling it a spotfest, but I disagree. There was lots of crazy moves at a very fast pace, but most made sense for this type of match. For example, one of the coolest moves was Jack Evans flying out of nowhere at the last second with a huge springboard to break up a pin. It got a huge pop because it was suprising and amazing looking, but it also made sense as a way to break up the fall when he was far away and without much time.

I was actually disappointed with Styles-Daniels. Styles was uncharacteristly sloppy a few times and there was a slow stretch in the middle where it seemed like they just trying to fill time. It was still good on the whole, I just have high expectations when these two meet, especially in a PPV main event.

Having Kendrick win the title is an absolute joke and makes a joke of an excellent PPV. Why not have Samoa Joe, AJ, or RVD win it.

This was the best PPV this year, and it was even better than any I've seen over the past two years. Excellent job by TNA putting this together, and hopefully, they see what they've got here and don't screw it up (as usual).

The PPV was good, but not as great as I had hoped and expected it to be.

The clear show-stealer was the Four-Way Contract Match, with all four wrestlers showing off excellent spots, breakneck speed, false finishes all over the place, and the crowd was also very into this match all the way through.

I had expected Daniels-Styles to steal the show before the PPV started, but this match actually left me a little disappointed. The ending was good, but the pace of the match was a little too slow for the first 10-15 minutes, with the majority of the action in the opening period consisting of armdrags and various submission holds. The pace quickened near the end, but by then the crowd had cooled off to the point where they could barely be heard anymore.

The Ultimate X match also disappointed me. It didn't have as much action as Ultimate X matches usually have, and although it had some cool spots, the match didn't really flow. The ending took too long to set up, and came far too quickly (the match only lasted about 10 minutes).

Kazarian vs Samoa Joe opened the PPV, and it was a strong opening match, with both wrestlers putting on a good intense performance. I had very high hopes for the PPV as a whole after this match, which where only partly fulfilled.

Jerry Lynn vs Rob Van Dam was pretty good after a slow start (several matches at the PPV got off the ground slowly). Some of the moves were pretty brutal-looking, and RVD appeared to be legitimately busted open by the flying leg drop onto the chair in the ring. Good showing by both wrestlers.

Unfortunately, the final match for Generation Me was a job to the team of Eric Young and Shark Boy. I don't find Young entertaining, and I think Shark Boy's gimmick is pretty bad. They did put on a bit of comedy during the match, which was a good thing since the action didn't meet my expectations, especially from Generation Me.

I think having "Who Are You" chants at a PPV is a sign of poor booking. While Mark Haskins made a decent showing against Douglas Williams, despite a few botched moves, I don't think a wrestler's first match in a company should be at a PPV. At least not without being hyped beforehand. Forgettable match.

Brian Kendrick vs Abyss was also pretty forgettable. For once, I didn't groan when Eric Bischoff came to the ring. It made perfect sense for Immortal to get involved. Kendrick punched Bischoff, which might get storyline consequences. In the end, the entire X Division came to the ring to overpower Immortal, and Kendrick won the match and the title.

In my humble opinion, this is what TNA should be doing more of; good fast paced wrestling matches that tell a story in the ring rather than the dull Hogan/Bishoff soap opera. Events like this one sell a very different product to WWE and this surely should be a good thing.

I have no idea who "Cookie" is but she did a fine job of channeling the spirit of Sherri Martel with her screeching at ringside!

I thought the Mark Haskins-Douglas Williams match was fine, I agree with Are's comment that a debut shouldnt be at a pay per view, but Im pleased that we Brits have come a long way since the days of Big Daddy style of wrestling (I wonder how the likes of Kendo Nagasaki and Rollerball Rocco would go over these days? Ah for a time machine!)

Also good to see a kid in a Blackburn Rovers shirt in the audience!

Shame you missed this one Kev, but keep up the good work!

OMG, this wass the best PPv of the year but i cant wait for BFG(bound for glory). well done to a.j styles for winning christiphor daniels, i just hope that they will stay friends.... i am also happy to see that abyss no longer has the x division belt and well done to brian kendrickk...... welll now i cant wait for the next one as it will be 100 time better but we will have to wait and see wont we... over and out sophie x

This PPV was well worth the money that it cost. All of the matches delivered. This is the first TNA PPV that I've purchased in awhile and I'm glad that I did. Aires promo was classic.
