Chavo Guerrero released by WWE

Chavo Guerrero has been released by WWE, a move that he says he initiated.

Guerrero, who had been with WWE since 2001 when his contract was picked up by the company after it had purchased WCW, tweeted the following earlier today:

“ … let's get something straight. I asked for my release. I was just tired of not being used correctly. Just cuz u can make other ppl look good, doesn't mean they should just have u lose to them. The same thing happened to Eddie. After being champ, they still had him working mid card status. Being a Guerrero, we've been taught since diapers to get the most out of ppl & matches. It's our gift, but also our curse. WWE has always used us to make other ppl look good. It all comes down to being happy. I was not happy in WWE anymore. I had a smile on my face last night though when I got my release though! :)

“Now it's time for me to start being a Guerrero again, and start kicking ass again, be able to tell stories in the ring like u know we can. :) win or lose I will never go back to the place WWE put me in. I will never go back to being under utilized and watching ppl who suck get bigger "pushes" than me! Thank u to all of u who stuck by me & kept reminding me, I was better than that! :) stay tuned.. Big things coming!! Now I will really be able to entertain u! :) like me or hate me, 1 thing I have always tried to do is entertain u and give u fans your $ worth. Even if my hands were tied most of the time. I love u all and can't wait for the future!! So happy. :)”

About an hour later, Guerrero tweeted again. This time, his comments about WWE were a bit more diplomatic.

“I know it may sound like it, but I've got no hard feelings toward the WWE. I've just been unhappy there for a long time & if you have watched the show, u will no why. I made a lot of money, but I'm better than just cashing a paycheck. I wish no hard feelings toward the WWE & want to see them and all my friends there succeed! I love wrestling & want nothing but wrestling to get better & bigger. U fans deserve nothing but a great show and great stories& athleticism for staying so true to wrestling. It's in my blood & always will be. :)”

Personally, I’m surprised Guerrero and WWE didn’t part ways sooner, either by his choice or the company’s. Despite being a quality worker, he has been used as comic relief and a glorified jobber for years, including putting over Hornswoggle on numerous occasions.

It had been reported recently that Guerrero had heat with WWE management, who supposedly put the blame on him for the sub-par matches between Guerrero and Sin Cara.

Guerrero's at fault for Sin Cara's botches? What? SC botches something every time we see him, why should Chavo get the blame?

What took them so long ...

Uh oh! I bet hogan will try to pick him up. And then he'll eventually get stuck in some retarded comedy act with EY.

I hope he joins his uncle in TNA

Good luck to him, he wasn't happy and didn't have to put up with it. Seems its more regular that wrestlers (or should it be entertainers) are seeing through the wwe.

I think I can sympathise with Chavo. Some things have happened in my life recently where I've put in hours and hours of work, put things I love on the backburner to benefit others, and those others still don't appreciate it, and no recognition is forthcoming. If you can't change your situation from inside, you have to get out, or it's a one way street to depression.
I love WWE, but it's a shame that, with NXT and Tough Enough, the company is always looking for the "next big thing" and overlooking some of the great talent it has already. I know that new blood shakes things up, and sometimes that's good, but constant shaking means instability. I'm getting tired of seeing many longstanding performers that I have grown to love over time, get pushed out in favour of some flavour of the month/Johnny come lately who probably won't last five minutes. Sorry, but it's getting stupid. As soon as you start to appreciate a guy's talents they're either released or sent to FCW. You look at some of your favourites who are on the fringe and wonder "how long till they're gone"?
And it's always the guys that are most over that get the boot. MVP was so over when it looked like he was getting a main event push. Suddenly, he's nowhere to be seen on TV, til he leaves. Same with Chavo, if his push wasn't a bit earlier. And even with the newcomers, the ones that are over with the fans get tossed, while those who were never popular get retained. What happened to The Dudebusters? Vance Archer? How long til we lose the super popular Yoshi Tatsu and Zack Ryder?

These comments sort of remind me of the ones that Matt Hardy made after his release. How's that working out. Look, Chavo is talented but at this point in his career he's not main event worthy. He'll go somewhere else, be pushed for about 2-3 months, then will be right back in the same position he was in but not making the money he was making to do it. Even Shawn Michaels lost to other people to make them look good.

I would feel more sorry for him, but wwe gave him a big chance by matching him up with Sin Cara and he totally blew it. He probably should have left a while ago, but despite that, a decent feud with Sin Cara could have reminded everyone what he was capable of.

Given how poorly Sin Cara has looked in his matches with everyone else, I can hardly blame Chavo for not wanting to take responsibility for that cluster.

I can't imagine Russo coming up with anything good for him, so I wonder if there's a role he could play for ROH? Seems like Benjamin and Haas are doing well there.

Good luck Chavo................

Well; Chavo did the right thing .. he hasn't beeen used properly by WWE since Eddie died ... and that is a complete waste of his abilities and talents ...

Although he claims he's going to be a stay at home dad ; I'm looking for Chavo to head on over to TNA ....

Paid dues. Worked hard. Jobbed, to a small-person. Chavo, the REAL screw-job.

Personally i never like Chavo. But he is right about WWE giving pushes to people SUCK.our best eg is the mystifying "BOTCH BOTCH" sin cara who did not had a match without botching since he made his pathetic debut.WWE is still going all out to promote Sin Cara who doesn't even have half the atheleticism or in ring technique compared to even a newbie in TNA X-division

Eh, I definitely wouldn't blame him for the Sin Cara stuff - he looks incredibly raw and uncomfortable in the ring. I don't think it can all be put on, "Well the WWE's style just doesn't work for him." Hopefully he settles down.

But Chavo is 40, not that big and never showed as much as Eddie or even Rey in the ring. He was probably a midcard guy at best at this stage of his career, and hopefully TNA has learned its lesson from Matt Hardy... And Tommy Dreamer... And Val Venis... And Orlando Jordan... That older former WWE guys don't really deserve to be pushed just because they're ex-WWE.

Hopefully in 90 days we see Chavo on Impact Wrestling as the mouth piece and a wrestler for Mexican-American. A.K.A. LAX 2.0

Chavo is a fine wrestler but he really never improved much on the mike. He lacked Eddie's charisma and ring presence, which is no shame, since very few wrestlers were on Eddie's level.

Chavo certainly did go above and beyond the call of duty putting guys over. The WWE seemed to take special pleasure in finding new guys for him to put over each year.

He's probbly nearing the end of his wrestling career, and this is kind of a sad way for him to go out. The initial comments on Twitter suggest someone quite embittered, which is a feeling he would do well to let go of because it has the potential to hinder him in moving forward.

The end of the line of wrestlers who came to WWE during the invasion is finally over. Chavo was the last one to be released. I don't think anyone would have thought back then that Chavo would have lasted on the roster longer than anyone else. The only ones that are still around after making returns (correct me if there's more) are Bill DeMott, Booker T, and Billy Kidman. (he works backstage for WWE now)

Not going to happen but the people at Sinclair and ROH should make their first major move and try to sign this guy that would be a nice move for them.

Next stop, X-Division - perhaps as a member of Mexican America? Just a thought. Either way, Chavo has been around the block enough to deserve better than making his ring entrance during commercial breaks and jobbing on Smackdown every couple weeks.

and watch the hate for WWE begin to role now. :(
Yes Guerrero's in general are great performers, but sadly Chavo will always be in the shadow of his Uncle Eddie. You can't always meet such crazy expectations. And it was obvious that WWE chose not to back the last Guerrero when they had Mysterio get the sentimental wins and not Chavo.
As for a writing stand point, same thing. Eddie got good stuff, so expectations were Chavo would get good stuff, too, but it would be rehashes of other things and he would just be another "Chapter". Also it's hard keeping stories going and keeping track of everything. WWE, and pro-wrestling characters in general, are like comic books and their characters. Sometimes things won't make since unless you are fluent in history. If you know the history, you expect things to connect and make sense, but would just see him as the little guy trying to continue the large family legacy. If you don't know the history, then you might get confused by what the athletes or commentators say.
In short, sometimes things just don't work, and it's not anyone's fault.

I think it will suck with out chavo

I was never a big Chavo fan so it's not much of a loss. But he did have some good matches against Sin Cara, what's with everyone saying he botches moves? I don't see it, they all look fine to me, he's definitly one of the most talented in-ring performers in the WWE.

lets just for arguments sake put sin cara's issue aside but how can chavo losing to and being embarassed by a pathetic midget be justified?

i am just surprised this didnt happen earlier

kevin, id like to read your indepth view on this topic...

I guess he should have had a run for the championship against Rey Mysterio. I believe that rivalry took place after Rey lost the title. Either ways, I guess Kerwin White, the Wrestlemania loss to Kane and then the circus acts with Hornswoggle sealed it for me. Wish him the best and I'm sure he'll be a solid player in any promotion once given the chance!!

Chavo was just a third rate jabroni. He is a minnow compared to Eddie Guerrero. Good riddance.

Slighty off topic, but the WWE has to STOP dimming the lights during a Sin Cara match. It's annoying and a potential hazard to the wrestlers in the ring due to low visibility. I don't know which douchebag(s) suggested or implemented it (Theodore Long?), nevertheless please CEASE this nonsense immediately. Thank you.

Kevin, since you worked with a lot of guys at the end of WCW, would you have ever guessed Chavo would outlast all of the dozen guys who originally moved over to the WWF?

Uninterrupted employment in WWE for 10 years is quite the feat for anybody! I wouldn't be surprised if Chavo had his anniversary come and go and decided it was time for him to go.

RESPONSE FROM KE: I never really thought about it like that, but Chavo was always a real pro and a good hand, so it doesn't really surprise me.

I'm going to echo some of the comments already on here.

Chavo Guerrero is one of those guys Ring of Honor should pick up, A.S.A.P.

There's no denying Chavo's talent or mike skills . . . .

It would be a monster move by Sinclair.

I'm going to defend my position of calling it a monster move right now.

Chavo's a proven talent with an legendary pedigree. He has name value because people know who he is. And at the same time he's not someone where you automatically have to put the belt on him the day he shows up.

So you have options.

And with Sinclair, this early in the game, it's very rare you can add a lot to the plus column with out adding a lot to the negative column.

On the opposite side of the coin.
TNA bringing in Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and Eric Bishoff.
A lot of positives, a lot of negatives.

Whatever happened to MVP? Is he still wrestling?
I think Mexican America could be more legit if Chavo took the reins, so to speak.

Chavo = Matt Hardy

Both live in the shadow of a more talented, more interesting, and more charismatic relative yet consistently blame everyone but the guy standing in the mirror.

Matt Hardy is constantly saying "This year will be my best one yet" and "You haven't seen anything from me yet". We're all waiting Matt and Chavo for you to blow us away.

Still waiting...

I was not really a Chavo fan but I totally agree with what he said. They gave pushes to people in the past ten years who really should not have. They made him fued with a midget. They turned him into a white guy. They turned him into a lacky for Vikki Guerrero. So yeah, he is right. They never gave him the proper push (except for a time with the cruiserweight title and tag titles with Eddie)

To Jon in Bradenton: MVP is wrestling in Japan, last I heard, and really loving it. I heard a recent podcast he did where he talked about how much he enjoys living and working there.

Well since Chavo has left an open spot, I hope they bring back that Kerwin White guy. Oh, and that caddie he had that looked like a young Dolph Ziggler would be good too:)

Not shocked to see this happen. While Chavo is right that he hasn't been used properly (losing to Hornswoggle once is too much, he did it multiple times), he does seem to be a touch (OK a ton) delusional regarding his value and marketability as a performer and draw. You can almost call it Matt Hardy syndrome. He was a quality wrestler, but he was ultimately no more than an exceedingly replaceable mid-carder.

To Jules B.
Thanks for the info. I appreciate it!

chavo you and eddie were good together.i will miss you you were my number one guy that i like
