WrestleMania XXVII breaks records

WWE issued the following news release Sunday night:

WWE® made history again as WrestleMania®, for the second consecutive year, became the highest grossing and most attended entertainment event in the host venue. WrestleMania XXVII grossed $6.6 million, with 71,617 in attendance. Fans from all 50 states and 30 countries were at the sold out event at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta tonight. The annual pop-culture extravaganza was broadcast around the world on pay-per-view in more than 100 countries and 20 languages.

The previous attendance record at the Georgia Dome for an entertainment event was set by The Backstreet Boys which attracted 65,658 fans on February 19, 2000. The U2 concert on October 6, 2009, which grossed $5.7 million, was the Georgia Dome’s highest grossing entertainment event until tonight.

“WrestleMania XXVII was an overwhelming success and one for the Atlanta history books. WWE would like to thank our public and private sector partners for helping to make WWE’s annual pop-culture extravaganza a memorable one,” said John P. Saboor, Senior Vice President of Special Events, WWE. “We now look forward to building on that success as we head to next year’s WrestleMania in Miami.”

WrestleMania XXVIII will take place place on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, FL. Ticket information will be announced later this year.

That was the worst Wrestlemania I have ever seen, I will elaborate more tomorrow. Too late, must sleep...but what a waste of money. Correction the Undertaker/Triple H was very good.

I agree with Rosie, I thought this show was a waste of money. It was no different than any other PPV, with the exception of HHH/Taker, and, even that, had a bizarre ending. The WWE is becoming more and more like Howard Stern to me; I hate both but I watch (or listen) to see what will happen next. No turns, no swerves, no anything, just another wrestling card. There, I said the "w" word.

Finally, if Cena is the face of the company, why is he booed louder than any heel and if the Rock blatantly interferes in the match, why wasn't Miz DQ'd. To be honest, I could have done without Rock being there, He brought nothing to the show and his character is even more cartoonish than most others. A major disappointment.

By far the worst Wrestlemania I've ever seen! I want a refund!

I have to admit that I didn't even watch this year, and instead relied on Mr. Eck's coverage...and was not proved wrong in my decision. Undertaker/HHH was a no-brainer to be at the very least entertaining, but the finish was to be expected, as was most of the match.
CM Punk and Orton are probably WWE's two best younger talents, so no surprise there either, and no surprise that everything else sucked. WWE is the "leader" in wrestling and breaking records at the Georgia Dome only by default. If the choice is bad wrestling or worse wrestling, I guess bad will win, although it doesn't make it good.
Speaking of which, I'm happy to hear that you had a chance to participate in all of the festivities, Mr. Eck, and it would be foolish not to take advantage of the opportunity, but for this mediocre spectacle, we didn't get our TNA review for the week?
Ironically, iMPACT actually built upon consistent storylines for the second week in a row now, (hard to believe-but...actually really well done), and I would estimate that it was the best iMPACT we've seen in quite some time---and also featured all of the major players stepping up their acting and performing up to a laudable level. (Also, Christopher Daniels made a return as himself, not as Suicide).
I hope you had a great time Mr. Eck, but some of us missed you on the other side. Take care.

This was the 1st Wrestlemania I bought in over 15 years as my kids are now into it ... This is also the last Wrestlemania I will buy ... How can you not have 1 title change OR have the Undertaker's streak end? Really?!? ... What is different this morning than before the event? Nothing - every title holder is the same and Taker is still undefeated ... Terrible!

Id rate this Wrestlemania a 4/10. I expected a little more with Rock being guest host. I predicted each match, except I thought Del Rio might get the win over Edge.

My expectations however were surpassed for HHH and the Undertaker, how could I doubt them just because there wasn't a great build up in the preceding weeks.

WWE Championship: I still cant get over how Vince is in l u v love with the Miz, though Rock costing Cena, everyone knew was coming.

Kevin - I really enjoy reading your blogs, you're a great writer and your live Wrestlemania blogs prove that. I don't believe you have any competition on the net.

Really average Wrestlemania. Actually it was quite bad.

I couldn't believe that the Bryan match was bumped but then when I heard Kahli won I was glad it was. What did Shaemus & Bryan do to deserve that.

There's people disputing that Georgia Dome attendance record.

Well this was the 23rd Wrestlemania I have seen, as shown on SKY, and i have to say i dont get these people moaning about it, every ppv has its ups and downs, we get what 4 below par mania's out of 27, taker/hhh was amazing and the ending set up next year, the flat ending of the cena match also set up something further, people need to get over it, and see it as the wwe building up to what will be THE best wrestlemania of them all next april in miami!!!!

The WWE, Georgia Dome and news sources need to publish retraction on setting Georgia Dome attendance record. WWE LIED.

The 2008 SEC Championship Game attendance was 75,892.

The Backstreet Boys played the Georgia Dome Feb. 19, 2000, Attendance: 73,337 (http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/industry/news/e3i26911e62ce1ee0f71135021f4a3a0954).

do some research next time WWE.
This is not 1987 anymore.
73,337 is what the Backstreet Boys got.
