How come you didn't put Hogan's dirtbag comments up there? The Huckster needs to go away...forever brother!
RESPONSE FROM KE: I saw his comments. I refuse to help him make this story about him.

I think Edge is the HBK of his era, even the part that coincided with the end of HBK's return. I mean that in as when he hit his peak the WWF/E was in somewhat of a down period compared to how huge it was during the time he fought his way up the card. I think much like how HBK was a tag team star & midcard talent during the Hogan era, he hit his peak in the "Tatanka years" as I like to call them and was gone for the Austin-Rock era. Then he returned and it was The Cena era where again, while not as bad, the WWE wasn't the juggernaut it was during Austin-Rock.
Same holds true for Edge. Was a tag team star and midcard guy during the Austin-Rock era and then when he hit the main event circuit sadly the golden era was fading out. He made the most of it though, for a couple of years he & HBK were about the only reason I even watched.

How come you didn't post Hulk Hogan's disrespectful twitter messages about Edge?
RESPONSE FROM KE: Like I said earlier, I don't want to help make Edge's retirement about Hogan making silly comments.
Posted by: Tomblie | April 12, 2011 1:34 PM
Jeez, now I'm wondering what the Pukester said, I am also glad Ric Flair didn't post anything, he is so whacked out of his mind these days, sad to see, very sad to see Edge retire, I thought it wasn't real until no one interrupted him

Now if Dixie Carter would only think like you!

I remember Trish Stratus won her 7th title in her last match. A classy exis - too bad WWE didn't treat Lita, loser of that match, the same way. Nice that Edge mentioned Lita, one of the best ever.

is it possible that christian will be champion after this?
Posted by: wilmer | April 12, 2011 3:02 PM
Kevin, I'm so glad you didn't put Hogan's comments up there. Horrible, just horrible what he said. At this point Hogan is just an embarrassment to himself and the industry. Here we have all these great and wonderfully heartfelt comments and well-wishes from people across the industry, WWE and not, but the Hulkster still feels the need to be in character or put another guy down or whatever. The sad part is he actually won his only major promotional tag team championship WITH Edge in his second run with the company. I agree his comments are all about himself and feeding into the delusions in his own mind. We all feel sorry and sad for Ric Flair. Hulk Hogan just manages to piss everybody off as the years go by. And I guarentee the outpouring of love and genuine sadness for Edge will trump anything that Hogan will get, if he ever actually does hang 'em up. Not holding my breath on that one.
The outpouring of love and respect by the wrestling industry surprises even me and shows how much Edge has grown up and into the role of mentor, leader and respected legend. For Matt Hardy to say what he said was especially classy and nice. Sad day for WWE and sad day for wrestling.

Is this a real retirement? Not a kay fabe or part of a storyline. k
RESONSE FROM KE: It's real.
Posted by: Austin | April 12, 2011 3:17 PM
I really really hope it's a storyline edge will b a massive loss
Posted by: Anonymous | April 12, 2011 3:23 PM
It's heartbreaking to see Edge have to bow out this way...I'm glad he's retired as champion - he more than deserves it! He was part of one of the greatest tag teams ever, in the greatest era ever for tag teams, and rose through the card succesfully to carry Smackdown and be one of the main reasons to watch WWE. Always a great performer in all aspects, will be greatly missed by all fans and the WWE. I'm glad they let go out naturally on Raw and have his moment.
Hulk Hogan is scum

Kevin, much respect from this reader for not playing into Hogan's comments. That guy is a first class jackass. I really didn't like him before this, now I hate him. I'll never watch or support anything he's ever involved in again.
On the other side of the coin, Adam Copeland goes out a legend and a class act. He will be missed greatly, but it's so much better to go out like this, than on a stretcher after one bump too many.
Another main eventer gone, what is WWE to do now? R-Truth is not the answer.

Those are lovely comments from his peers.
Thanks for being one of, if not the, only places that only repeats the Tweets heralding Edge for the wonderful performer and person.
Posted by: Mina | April 12, 2011 4:59 PM
I made the mistake of reading HH twitter remarks... and so hate myself for jus reading it.... hats off to you for not bothering with that...
Enuf said on that....
Edge was a primary reason for my continued watching of Wrest... Sports Entertainment.... He truly deserves to go out on top and on his own accord.... Wishing him the best in watever he decides to do... but no more matches please... you've done all that u possibly could... though the heart longs for 'one-more-match' [esp with Christian, cos noone else could take care of him as much] the head wins out with logic and reasoning.
Thanks Rated-R SuperStar!!!!

Somebody like Edge, who revolutionized this business has retired. It really feels like an era coming to an end. This business will never ever be the same again. Thank you Edge for all the wonderful memories and here's wishing a very happy retired life. You gave us so many memorable moments but the one that will remain in our mind and heart for the rest of our lives is that spear to Jeff hardy that revolutionized not only TLC matches, but also this business.Even though no amount of THANK YOUs will ever be enough to say how much Edge means to us fans... but Thank you Edge we will always miss you!!!!
and for the last time.... SPEAR...SPEAR...SPEAR....SPEAR....SPEAR \m/

Edge goes out as easily the best all-around performer in the WWE, imo. I think he was their best in-ring performer and one of the top few with the mike. Like Beth Phoenix said, he is irreplacable.
Posted by: Ruzious | April 12, 2011 6:04 PM
I'm not sure Hogan understood the difference between "the doctors told him he CAN'T wrestle" and "the doctors told him he shouldn't wrestle". His statements read like someone who thinks Edge got 1 opinion and is taking time off to heal.
If he understood Edge's situation its certainly not his place to compare him to guys whose situations may not have been as dire as they claimed or guys who had other reasons for ignoring doctors opinions. I think however everything he knew of the situation was from a tweet he got from a fan and assumed its not that serious since Edge has been wrestling a full schedule this whole time. Unfortunately he's not the type of guy that would offer an apology after finding out the whole story.
Posted by: MechanicalBull | April 12, 2011 6:07 PM
I'm sad for Edge that his career has come to an abrupt end, but what a great career it was.
He certainly couldn't risk too many more bumps with injuries like that.
One of the best performers ever and wrestling fans will truly miss him. I hope we see him back in some capacity.
Posted by: Andy | April 12, 2011 6:31 PM
what a surreal moment on raw.
when i started wrestling again after my hiatus, Edge had a very heated feud with Cena. Then Rated RKO. Then came the legendary feud with undertaker. what a wrestler.
this past year for Edge was underwhelming. with the whole kane/paul bearer ridiculousness. and the underwhelming program with del rio.
for me, my last impression of edge was at WM 26. spearing chris jericho from the table through the barricade after a great match. and a great feud.
thank you edge.
Posted by: The Natural | April 12, 2011 6:31 PM
Yeah, Hogan's a real expert on knowing when it's time to pack it in.

I have to admit that it took me a while to come around on Edge, but by the time he was in his tremendous ME heel phase, I was a fan. But there's no one- NO ONE- that's sacrificed his body like Edge.
I think some of the WWE's booking leading up to and including 'Mania makes more sense now; they obviously knew Edge's time was limited, so they wanted to reward him with a successful 'Mania title defense. And, while I always suspected that Edge had a hand in Christian's recent push towards the ME, the reasons for it are clearer. I'm even more glad that they didn't have Christian turn on Edge at 'Mania, and I hope the WWE does the right thing at Extreme Rules and puts Christian over for the title-- with his best friend in his corner.
As for Hulk Hogan, all I have to say is that it's ironic that Edge took the time to mention him in his speech last night. Edge > Hulk Hogan.
Posted by: Ken Raining | April 12, 2011 7:15 PM
Edge was a "holy $^&*!" bump taker throughout his career whereas The Hulkster has rarely done anything more dangerous than a run-of-the-mill leg drop. No one should minimize Edge's situation, least of all Hogan.
You will be missed, Edge.

Hey Kevin, just wanted to show what Randy Orton posted on his twitter about Edge, so you can add to your list here.
Randy Orton's twitter: Will miss Edge not only in ring, but in the lockeroom even more. He was one of the few who I could call a friend. I learned alot from him.
Posted by: AJ | April 12, 2011 8:34 PM
Edge's promo seemed like a work. A sudden spot on Raw.....not much emotion, rushed delivery on the mic. Wouldn't WWE send him off better than that?????
Posted by: K | April 12, 2011 10:18 PM
As a wrestling fan for the last seventeen years, I'd like to thank Edge. He's an absolutely incredible performer and he had a lot of incredible moments that a lot of us always will remember. We all should be happy for what he gave us...the memories truly reek of awesomeness.

The Rock tweeted this about Edge:
Edge - you are my brother, an inspiration and define the word "superstar". THANK YOU Adam.. for everything.
Posted by: AJ | April 13, 2011 1:24 AM
Oh come on, edit your post and add the Rock's tweet in there.
Posted by: Anonymous | April 13, 2011 6:44 AM
In fact, you need to update this post - or at least create a new one - since there's so many more tweets out now. It's weird that you have Samoa Joe's thoughts there but not more relevant wrestlers like Zach Ryder or more famous ones like the Rock.
RESPONSE FROM KE: The post was a sampling of what what was on Twitter for about the first 14 hours after Edge made his announcement. I have neither the time nor the inclination to constantly update it with additional tweets.
Posted by: Anonymous | April 13, 2011 6:50 AM
Edge has made it known that HH was a huge influence on his decision to pursue wrestling. It's sad to see HH crap all over someone that looked up to him.
Posted by: jt | April 13, 2011 9:01 AM
Although when I started watching wrestling, I hated The Ultimate Opportunist, I grew to really like Edge (I always liked his music) --- and I was devastated Monday night to hear of his retirement - I kept waiting for Del Rio's music to come on and Edge retract his words. It was only when nothing happened, and he walked up the ramp and hugged Dolph Ziggler (who was one of his recent enemies) and others, that I realized he was really leaving. He was the main one I was following. I do though have a lot of respect for him as a person to realize what a serious health threat he could face should he continue this, and he's got enough respect for himself and his family to give all this up.
And Kevin, I've seen the site with Hogan's ramblings and I thank you so much for devoting this site/posting to Edge and not that lunatic's viewpoints.

Edge .AA to retire ,probably he is just joking but if so he was talented although he proved to be a coward in his one or so matches

Edge will be sorely missed, and his innovations in the ring remembered for a long time.
Thank you Edge.

Edge you are a class act. Hogan is a classless act. It is a shame he can't just leave like a real man.

Thank you Kevin. I've been a reader of your blog for about 3 years and I respect your integrity. My respect has now grown tenfold.
