Report: Jay Lethal released by TNA
Jay Lethal has been released by TNA, according to a report on pwinsider.com.
Lethal’s role had diminished considerably over the past few months to the point in which it was easy to forget that he was still with the company.
It was less than a year ago that the talented former TNA X Division and tag team champion appeared to be on the verge of becoming a major star in TNA. Lethal, who has been with TNA since 2006, was in an entertaining feud with Ric Flair and also defeated A.J. Styles in the show-stealing match at the Slammiversary pay-per-view in June.
It’s puzzling as to why Lethal’s push came to a halt. I realize that not everyone can be the world champion, but surely there was something that TNA could have done with him.
Hopefully, WWE will give Lethal – who turned 26 today – a look.

I was a big Jay Lethal fan. A shame to see he was let go. He is a talent.. Hopefully if the WWE picks him up, they will use him right.

Wow this makes me really sad. I'm a huge Jay Lethal fan, in fact he is probably the main reason i even started watching TNA. While I'm a large WWE *hate calling it that) fan, I hope the old saying of Vince only cares about what he creates, doesn't come true for Lethal if he happens to join their roster.

That's a bit of a bummer but maybe it'll open up new opps for Lethal. That guy can do it all and really should have been a TNA main event mainstay by this point. I mean, the guy can talk, work the crowd, and his ring ability is exceptional. There used to be a time when WWE wouldn't even consder him because of his size but with guys like Punk, Kofi, and even Danielson/Bryan getting significant exposure the last year or so, I think they'd honestly give Lethal a good look. There's really no reason not to as he seems to be well-liked by the folks he's worked with.
I think Lethal vs Sin Cara could be one of those status-raising feuds that defines a generation. Hopefully we'll get to see that someday soon.
Jay Lethal should be a star in any company he's in, and now he can prove that by excelling outside of TNA who, imo, held him back after developing him into a star.

The Lethal-Flair promo when Flair introduced Fortune was the funniest thing in the business in years. This guy could hold his own on the mic with Flair. 'Nuff said.
If you're TNA, this is a guy who should be helping to build a long-term stable here. We don't know the whole story, but this doesn't LOOK good for TNA. They have to build their own stars (Styles, Roode, Kazarian) or put a unique spin on guys from other promotions (Anderson, Bubba, Morgan) if they ever want to create their own identity and get successful.

i cant understand for the life of me why TNA would let a talent like this go to waste. Lethal was destin to lead TNA to the next level and was on his way. The only plausable explanation is the older wrestlers (Hogan, Sting, Scott Steiner, etc..) are pushing their way to the front for one last hoorah which seems to last year after year and cannot give up the spotlight. If your a young talent in TNA you are wasting your time. Just look at "The Miz" and the rest of the young talent with potential getting the strong push necessary for a company to grow and stay strong. This is why WCW fell to the WWE and TNA seems to be on the same road leading in that direction.

Hopefully not. We don't need another generic wrestler to go along with every other generic guy in FCW.

I don't think it's all that puzzling. Anyone following TNA over the last year+ knows whats been happening. The "TNA Guys" have been pushed back while guys brought in from WWE/WCW/ECW have been pushed...and pushed...and pushed. Jay Lethal is smallish and is an "X-Division" guy, a division they've pretty much reduced to lower mid-card. Hogan, Flair, Dreamer, Hardy, Anderson, RVD, Sting, Jarrett + Angle (the wrong one) are the people populating the main event and upper mid-card scene.
You talked about the disappointing X-Division match @ Lockdown. Is it any wonder? Look who was in it. And look where it all went wrong for Lethal. He went from Flair and AJ to Robbie E and Cookie. And LOSING to them. The Jersey Shore gimmick BEAT hot + rising young X-Division Champion. Russo-rific! One would hope WWE would give him a look, but much more likely is ROH and Indies for awhile. Because something tells me if he went to WWE right now he'd probably just end up being paired w/ Zach Ryder and Yoshi Tatsu doing dark matches.
Who would have thought Jay Lethal would be left off a "major" PPV and a blading, mooning 61-year-old Ric Flair would be in the main event. *Sigh*

WWE should definitely give Lethal a look as he certainly fits into their "entertainment" mode, plus he is young and a talented wrestler (blasphemy). Just another reason why I refuse to watch that abhorrent mess that is TNA.

Seeing Lethal to lose against Amazing Red – whom we can deem a low-carder with all due respect – at Lockdown was certainly a good indication that his future in TNA didn't look too bright. Wish him well in his next endeavours.

I like lethal and I wouldn't mind seeing him in WWE, but I don't think he would be more than a permanent jobber if he went there.

Given that Bischoff, Hogan, Russo, Jarrett and their known history of politics, bullcrap and self-serving pushes are now an unfortunate part of TNA---this is a blow to TNA's recent improvement, and also a bad omen as it concerns that improvement continuing to gather steam.
Lethal is exactly the sort of guy that a smart company would want to hang on to. He's got great ring skills and good mic performance--and since he hasn't even reached his prime yet, is only going to improve with the chance to do so.
The run at short-term ratings and profits at the expense of strategizing for the future that is always one of my main gripes with wrestling today is on full display here.
If WWE is smart enough to pick Lethal up, (let's not pretend that Vince is planning any better for the future than TNA is--although he has a lot more fireworks and shiny things), TNA will regret this within a few short years.
Lethal is some good writing, a revamp and polish of his in-ring character, and the chance for a strong push away from being a big star.
Stupid.

(sigh) Why couldn't it be Matt Hardy instead? Seriously, Jay stands a better chance in ROH than WWE. They'll waste him like they do Daniel Bryan. Whatever happened to Tyler Black, by the way?
RESPONSE FROM KE: Tyler Black -- aka Seth Rollins -- is still in FCW.

Well that makes no sense at all. We have to have 25 minute segments with the Huckster yet Jay Lethal is released.
TNA needs sane booking and leadership.

It's sobering that a young guy with this type of charisma and talent would be released. It doesn't speak well for TNA's judgment or decision making.

Lethal would be a great add for WWE!

This is eerily reminds me of when Chris Jericho switched from WCW to WWE. Is this the beginning of the end for TNA? I guess if Lethal shows up on WWE TV...
