Live blog from WrestleMania XXVII: Rey Mysterio vs. Cody Rhodes
Live report from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta:
Rhodes, wearing a dark hooded jacket that covered most of his face, entered the ring to new entrance music and a video that suits his dark character.
Mysterio came out in a Captain America outfit.
Rhodes controlled the action early. At the 5-minute mark, he held Mysterio up in a suplex position from the middle rope seemingly forever before finally completing the maneuver. That got a pop from the crowd.
Rhodes blocked a 619 attempt at the 8-minute mark. He then took off Mysterio’s knee brace.
Mysterio connected on a second 619, but Rhodes got his knees up for a dive off the top. Mysterio then connected with two feet to the chest for a near fall.
Mysterio took off Rhodes’ face mask, put it over his mask and used it as a weapon.
With Rhodes on the outside, Mysterio went for a dive between the ropes, but Rhodes blasted him in the face with Mysterio’s knee brace.
Rhodes then hit Cross Rhodes for the victory at 11:55.
This was a good match and Rhodes made a nice accounting of himself on the grand stage.

True, nobody cares but I have to say that this was a good match. BS crowd this year though.

Great match; some of my friends were very down on this match and Rey in particular, but the match itself won them over.
This was maybe my 3rd favorite match of the night. Mysterio really knows what Wrestlemania means and how to make it special, and Cody brought an "A" game I didn't even know he had.
Interesting booking with the masks, brace etcetera... made sense and was compelling storytelling.

I had this match earmarked as a possible show-stealer, and it was every bit as good as I had expected! Fortunately, Orton/Punk clicked well enough for their match to earn the rights of "show-stealer" in my opinion, but still, this match was a true credit to the legacy of WrestleMania as far as I am concerned.
Now I wouldn't mind seeing Edge/Cody Rhodes in a title match on any episode of Friday Night Smackdown! I think WWE may have made a mistake putting the WWE Intercontinental championship on Wade Barrett. They should have waited for Cody/Kofi at Backlash.

The match was pretty good. Still, I thought the crowd was unresponsive because they wanted to cheer Cody Rhodes (being from Georgia and son of Dusty and all) but since he was the heel, they kept fairly quiet. Still, there were SOME responses from the big moves though, but I thought WWE didn't take the regional appeal of Cody Rhodes into account.
