WWE Superstars cancelled
WWE Superstars will air its final episode on WGN America on April 7.
I can’t say the move is all that surprising, as it seemed that WWE stopped caring about the show some time ago.
Superstars debuted in April 2009. The Undertaker and Shane McMahon both wrestled on the first episode, and other top-tier WWE stars subsequently made occasional appearances on the program.
It wasn’t a must-see show, as there was virtually no story line development, but it was a nice change of pace because the focus was on in-ring action.
After a while, however, the big stars stopped appearing on the show and it became the home of lower-level guys such as Chris Masters, Zack Ryder, Primo and Chavo Guerrero as well as the Divas. As one would expect, ratings – which were never that great to begin with – plummeted.
The cancellation of the show could negatively affect some of the talent that regularly appeared on it, as there has been speculation that WWE is going to make significant roster cuts after WrestleMania XXVII.
WGN America is part of The Tribune Company, which also owns The Baltimore Sun.

Now it all makes sense! I predict a feud between yourself and the WWE jobbers, perhaps with a surprise run in from Peter Schmuck to save his long term rival Kevin Eck. Or is that something only Vince Russo would do?
It seems that unless WWE is planning a replacement then the roster cuts will indeed be significant. Perhaps it will now be on the internet like NXT?

Congratulations, TNA. "Impact" has won the Thursday Night War against what is at best WWE's C-show (or possibly D-show, if you include "Tough Enough" which will debut the Monday before "Superstars's" final episode).

The show airs outside the U.S., so I wouldn't be surprised if it moves to WWE.com like NXT.

Who do you think has his or her head on the chopping block? To me, Primo has been living on borrowed time since his brother left the company.

Would that mean that TNA [Eric/Russo/Hulk] will be having a bonanza recruiting all those discards??????

Chavo must be shaking in his boots!

Are you behind the cancellation of the show via the Baltimore Sun and Tribune Company? I heard rumours people often have mistaken you for Scott Stanford and by removing him from tv you will get a break from that.
It seems wrestlers like T-Reks, Primo, Masters and JTG will have a hard time staying with WWE after Wrestlemania. Zack Ryder is at least showing his entertainment value with his recent "True Long Island Story" videos. Did you see any of the episodes?

That's really too bad. Aside from the endless recaps and video packages, Superstars was a fun show. It was nice to see some of the lesser stars get a little airtime.
It would be nice if the show found another home, even if it's only on the website. Heck, if they can keep airing NXT, they should be able to keep airing Superstars.

I can't say I'm very surprised by this. StuporStars is the only WWE program I have seen regularly for the past 7 or 8 months, and when the main event is the MasterPuke vs T Reks, something is wrong. Vince has only 3 A listers on his roster I would pay coin of the realm to see: Triple H, 'Taker, and Orton. The rest are in the way. I would pay to see Jericho as well, but he's out dancin' with Cheryl. Santino is VERY entertaining, and Chavo's skills never fail to impress, but nobody knows what to do with him. For my money, Chavo would make a better World champ than the Miz, but then Chad Brock, or George South, or Bill or Randy Mulkey or any of Bullet Bob Armstrong's cursed offspring would make a better World Champ than the Miz......

This is disappointing news to me because I always relied on "WWE Superstars" as a solid wrestling show that was free from rushed storylines, overexposed headliners, and swerves for the sake of a rating pop. It was just the guys signed to WWE showing why they were signed to WWE in the first place. Matches featuring Chavo Guerrero, Chris Masters, Yoshi Tatsu, and Primo Colon were surprisingly enjoyable!
It was basically the real "alternative" wrestling TV program after TNA became WWE Jr.

This was a bad idea for a primetime show as soon as it became the home for stars that can't get on Raw or Smackdown. I agree as well, this does not bode well for the guys like Yoshi Tatsu, Ryder, Tyson Kidd, DH Smith etc.
I think they should explore another Saturday/Sunday morning or afternoon show that is similar to the old All-American Wrestling show. House show footage for those guys and work in a main event with the bigger stars every couple of weeks. These shows worked until they turned all of them into Raw/Smackdown recap shows.

I used to really enjoy Superstars as it allowed me to see quality matches from quality workers who, for whatever reason, weren't receiving a push to justify their talent.
Lately though, it's like it's because a carbon copy of the previous episode, with the same matches, same workers and same boring formula.
WWE has spread itself a little too thin in terms of TV's, so something had to give.

Its reported wgn grew tired of expecting "B or C level quality" and was getting D quality. WWE definitely could have done more with it. I did like the wrestlers that appeared, and didn't like half the show going for recaps of the other shows. Wasted opportunity.

I don't agree with this at all! The lower-level stars will never get to appear on Raw and Smackdown unless they are used a jobbers for guys like HHH or Sheamus. I love watching superstars to see one of my fav stars JTG or the cocky Zack Ryder. It's sad to know that some of these great preformers will be either released or look horrible due to jobbing.....it's not right man.....CHEA!

VERY disappointed to see WWE Superstars being cancelled. Alongside NXT, it's been the only outlet for mid-card wrestlers to get some TV time recently, and has actually been responsible for showing some better matches than either Smackdown or Raw, both of which have in my opinion turned into nothing but poor variety acts in the run up to Wrestlemania.
WWE once again needs to be reminded what the second "W" in it's name stands for. It is after all what made it the company it is today. I've never watched a WWE film - don't plan to , either - and the endless promos and recaps bore me. When WWE gets their product right, nobody does it better, but this everything-to-everyone attitude is starting to wear thin. Focus on the in-ring product WWE, that's what people pay and tune in to see. Get THAT right, and the rest will follow.
Back to Superstars. The show will be sorely missed. Without it, would we ever have seen something as epic as this?

WWE could have positioned this show as somewhere in between OVW and Raw/Smackdown. It should have been a place for the inexperienced guys and gals to get ring time, and perhaps even a place for new writers to come in and get experience developing characters. It would have been even better if the WWE had brought in/back a TV title for that show, to give the wrestlers something to care about, giving fans a reason to care about the wrestlers. Occasionally bringing that TV champion on to Raw or Smackdown with the belt would have given the announcers a legit reason to plug the show, creating more viewership.
Unfortunately, WWE positioned it as a recap show with some matches thrown in. It's too bad. Unless the company needs to cut costs (salary and production costs), they could have revamped the show and marketed it to another network. Maybe Mark Cuban's HDNet would have been interested, or as a Saturday morning show on USA like the old days.

Great! The one show where the Divas can finally have the main event and they go and cancel it! I hope the Divas can at least main event the finale... Primo is definetly gone, JTG isnt going anywhere, Trent Barreta & Curt Hawkins will return to FCW and Chris Masters, Tyler Reks, Rosa Mendes and Yoshi Tatsu have a fighting chance at staying. These are my thoughts and i majority will agree with me.

It's cute that folks like loomixguy take the time which should be reserved for what will be eventual "fired" wrestlers as a moment to bash (which is tired at this point) the champ (whom I don't really care for) lol! In reality, the BS that was spouting from ITS mouth wasn't all that clever and "cool" as it thinks, given that some actually already agree with it. Besides, it's not like the guy's retaining at all at WM. No, don't let the WWE with it's half-a**ed, too late-as-pure h*ll booking of Miz try to even deter you.
