Snooki is going to WrestleMania

“Jersey Shore” continues to have a hold on pro wrestling.

First it was Jenni “Jwoww” Farley and Angelina Pivarnick appearing on TNA Impact, and now Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is set to mix it up inside the ring on wrestling’s grandest stage – WWE’s WrestleMania.

An angle was shot on Monday night’s episode of Raw that saw Snooki get physically in a post-match brawl with LayCool. It was then announced that “The Snookster” will team with John Morrison and Trish Stratus to take on Dolph Ziggler and LayCool at WrestleMania XXVII on April 3 in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.

The Wrestling Observer reported last week that a six person tag match was scheduled to take place at WrestleMania, but Kelly Kelly was listed on the babyface team instead of Snooki.

In my eyes, trading Kelly Kelly for Snooki in any situation – no pun intended – is a bad idea, but it’s not hard to figure out why WWE is doing business with the MTV reality star.

Whether anyone likes it or not, there’s no denying that Snooki is a mainstream celebrity (and she’s more famous than fellow “Jersey Shore” stars Jwoww and Pivarnick). She’s even on the cover of Rolling Stone for God’s sake. Her participation at WrestleMania is going to get WWE a lot of publicity. In fact, it already has.

Personally, I’ve never watched an episode of “Jersey Shore” and find everyone on the show to be annoying, but I have to admit that the angle with Snooki on Raw was well done for what it was. The live crowd in St. Louis even marked out for Snooki.

As a wrestling fan, however, I think it’s a travesty that Snooki is going to WrestleMania while every other Diva on the roster except for LayCool is likely going to be left off the card.

Oh well, I guess that’s show biz.

Note: My thoughts on Raw will be posted later.

"Snooki" instead of Kelly Kelly? Or Beth Phoenix? Or Natalya? I know that WWE just loves to get mainstream celebrities involved in their shows, especially when it comes to WrestleMania, but what does it say about the rest of the Diva roster when the rest of them are just left out like that during the biggest show of the year?

Also, I still maintain that having no MITB match is a mistake. That match creates a lot of excitement year to year since WM 21, and it allows you to get a lot of your roster involved all at once. With three weeks left now, it looks like quite a few stars will be left out, unless there happens to be a last-minute lumberjack situation, or there's a huge battle royal in a "dark match" situation like a few years ago.

You're thoughts on this, Kevin?

I fully agree about feeling bad for the other Divas. They're a complete afterthought. Two weeks ago, creative tried to put Cole's character over at the expense of an actual Divas title match. If it were just some random undercard match, that's one thing...but how humiliating must it have been to the Divas to see their champion and top contender utterly ridiculed like that? (And of course, that's after the non-stop ridiculing of the Divas' NXT season3.)

And it's not just Snooki that's the problem. Trish Stratus has been gone for years yet she jumps right into Wrestlemania. Eve, Natalya, Beth Phoenix, and Kelly Kelly must be thrilled. It says plenty about the WWE's failure to create new star Divas.

I have no problem with this. Wrestlemania is a spectacle, not just about wrestling. Or sports entertaining. If this gets more people to buy in, even better. She held up pretty well Monday night - moreso than most guest stars and let's remember, she's not an actor, she's a reality star. I've watched all of 5 minutes of Jersey Shore and can't imagine why people like it, but to each his own. I think she'll bring some nice mainstream press.

While it is a travesty, Snooki did do a pretty decent Thesz Press, which is better than anything the Bella Twins have been able to pull off.

Yo Big Kev. Yeah its kinda ridiculous that Snooki will be at Wrestlemania. But
I have to admit she did a decent job last nite. Didnt seem nervous or out of place, her 'acting' was decent (MUCH better than either J-Woww or Angelina on TNA - although they are both HOT, and Snooki is NOT). And did you see the TEXTBOOK 'Thesz Press' she gave Michelle McCool??? LOL. B t w kev, I USED to have the same opinion as you about Jersey Shore. REFUSED to watch it, was tired of hearing ppl talk about what happened on the show, and thought everybody on the show is an idiot. But I decided to actually give it a chance one night, and man its actually GOOD. Its a guilty pleasure. Kinda like wrestling is lol.

snookie is better than all those divas cuz they all fight like crap

The scariest part for me is that, based on Drew Carey, she may be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Afterall, a match at Wrestlemania is a much bigger thing than throwing yourself out of the Royal Rumble.

(shudder)

I agree with MikeS.
They should have MITB Match.

I think I remember reading something a while back about Vince not wanting any of the Divas to become too big of a star. With Trish and Sable getting too big and doing other things, Vince didn't want that anymore. I could be mistaken, however. Kev, you remember anything like that?

RESPONSE FROM KE: I do remember that.

Hopefully, by Wrestlemania, Snooki will learn how to pronounce Trish's last name!! It's STRATUS NOT STATUS!! At least Vicki got it right!

It is too bad to see all the other diva's left of the card and dang Trish has fallen far! She just feels like another member of the roster that's too bad but honestly.. Snooki didn't do all that bad.

Come on Kev. Everytime you do a non-wrestling story on this blog, you chalk it up to the fact that it gets you more clicks. So it's plain to see that that's what the wwe is doing here. Although i do not watch it either, that jersey shore show is wildly popular.

Besides, it's not like any wrestling fan will look at the card and go... "wow, i cant believe natalya and beth phoenix have been left off the card. now i wont order the pay per view." Admit it Kev, you just like any other wrestling fan use the women's match at WM to go to the bathroom or get another snack or beer. So why not just put a "celebrity" in there to try and get more buzz.

Never seen Snook'is show but they gotta have their celebrities for WM. Hopefully they will have a match for the other Divas so they can get a wrestlemania check!

THANK YOU, GO FISH! Took the words right out of my mouth. The one thing that the WWE is lacking right now - and has lacked for a while now - is a solid Divas roster. The WWE has to understand that while girls dig the hot guys with the rock hard abs, many look up to WWE Divas as role models (even those useless Bella Twins).

Even in the PG era, the Divas are still a T&A game. And that's really unfortunate because there are a few girls who CAN actually wrestle and could help build up the Divas roster should the WWE give them the opportunity to do so. But they haven't, and it doesn't seem like they will any time soon.

I have no real problem with this, though the bar is now at its lowest for celebrity involvement at Wrestlemania.

I actually think this Snooki match has all the potential to be amazing. I've never watched a second of Jersey Shore but Snookie totally won me over on RAW. Way too often when celebrities are involved in wrestling you can just feel them not getting it and they'll spend all their tv time smirking to themselves or they'll say lines with this bewildered tone and it's obvious none of them care about the show or the audience, and some of them seem to have disdain for both.

But Snooki was good and in character in both of her backstage segments, she cut a good promo, did a great job in the post-match beatdown and did an awesome Lou Thesz Press. She obviously took whatever training WWE gave her very seriously. She seems to actually want to do a good job and contribute in a positive way to WM. Compare her to Dennis Rodman, Karl Malone, Jay Leno, Bart Scott, Floyd Mayweather, Bart Scott, JWoww and it's amazing how much more dedicated Snookie seemed. e

Honestly, this is one of the matches I am looking forward to the most JoMo, Dolph, LayCool, Vikki are all gold so even if Snooki doesn't do a lot or Trish still has ring rust the match will probably still be great.

funny, to all the folks who can't stand any of the divas, Eve especially, well now you got snooki (though she was funny last night), so are you happy?

If this were TNA they'd be booking Snooki to win the world title at the next PPV and to answer the demands of her angry fans on twitter Dixie Carter would attempt to rectify the situation by offering The Ultimate Warrior a guaranteed 5 year contract that includes a title reign. If that doesn't please them Russo will turn AJ Styles heel again for no reason and they'll announce a "big surprise" at the following Impact and have it be the debut of new backstage interviewer Mike Adamle.

Then a year from now she'll excitedly announce how stoked she is about TNA Impact moving from Spike TV to QVC Saturday mornings from 3-5 AM.

"Personally, I’ve never watched an episode of “Jersey Shore” and find everyone on the show to be annoying, "
Uh Kev if you have never watched an episode of Jersey Shore then how can you know they are all annoying? Does never watched an episode mean an entire episode, well RAW qualifies for that one. You must have watched some, there is no way you could know they were ALL annoying simply by watching MTV,commercials,or other bs celeb shows,at least it is highly unlikely but ok let's assume you mean an entire episode and let it rest. Second for the first time ever we agree trading Snooki for Kelly Kelly is like when the Orioles traded for Glenn Davis-YIKES!!! Look we all get the publicity push from having Snooki on the show but did it really have to come at Kelly Kelly's expense? They couldn't have found another way, like say keep the original team intact and add in Snooki as their manager? Seems like overkill to me,I doubt the Snook's fans are dyeing to see her in the ring as a wrestler.Seems a manager role would have been a better fit for all involved, but VKM does what Steph tells him in celebrity world I guess. Pretty sad that this will be the only woman's action of the night (I refuse to refer to them as "Diva's"). Maybe they will add something else,we can always wish, hell they could always add Kelly Kelly as Edge's manager, have Christian pull the swerve everyone expects and Kelly make the save for Edge.Just a thought.Have a pleasant evening,as we all mourn the loss of the most electrifying lady in sports entertainment today,sigh---------

RESPONSE FROM KE: The truth is that I haven't watched one second of Jersey Shore. I'm annoyed by the people on the show because you can't get away from them. They're all over TV, magazines and social media. Plus, I have co-workers who are fans of the show and talk about it all the time.

Actually, this will be a ridiculous amount of exposure for both Morrison and Ziggler. Every TMZ report is going to mention their names.

This is not unusual for WWE. Remember the Lawrence Taylor vs Bam Bam "main event"? Sometimes "main stream" get the publicity over the real main event. It is good business and Snookie has already gotten WWE more publicity than any of the Championship matches have. In WWE the really emphasize the E.

I bet Snookie's match will be way more entertaining and professional than the Victory Road main event.

this business descision is 10 times better than having even the best of the wwe divas in a title match.

Think of it this way: at least WWE is a TV-PG product now! She won't be able to be very "annoying" (assuming your definition is on par with mine).

I'm actually impressed with the fact that Snooki didn't stink up the joint. If you look at her fist confrontation with vickie she blocked and slapped the taste out of her mouth without blinking or flinching.Money mayweather couldn't do that much(YES i'm aware of the differences). The real travesty of this hasn't even happened yet. In a few years Snooki will be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame. Why not? They're letting Drew Carey in for his sorry ass contribution at the RR. Snooki has an actually match at mania. So why not.Besides Snooki and Vickie are gonna be side attractions. The spotlight willbe on Stratus, Laycool,Morrison, and Ziggler

Once again, if it's WWE you support it and have positve comments. If it's TNA you trash and bury it. This is a PERFECT example of your BLATANT bias toward WWE. Thanks for proving beyond a shadow of a doubt you are a subjective, WWE mark.

Forget Snooki, what exactly has Trish done to deserve a match at Wrestlemania? She only shows up when it means some free publicity for her new career. That's why she's teaming with Snooki now. The celebrity match will get Trish's name in all the entertainment publications, which should be a nice boost for her.

Most people won't say anything because Trish is gorgeous. Maybe even hotter now than she was as a wrestler. That's fine and all, but the fact is a FORMER wrestler just helped bump all the active divas off the biggest card of the year.
