Kurt Angle comments on being arrested Friday
For those who may have missed it, TNA star Kurt Angle was arrested early Friday morning in North Dakota and charged with being in control of a motor vehicle while being intoxicated (which means he was allegedly intoxicated while in a car but wasn’t actually driving), according to a report on TMZ.com.
Local law enforcement sources told TMZ that police discovered Angle sitting in his car in the median separating lanes. He reportedly told police that he had hit an icy patch on the road, but he subsequently failed a field sobriety test and was arrested.
Angle addressed the situation early this morning on Twitter:
“Thank U to my supporters. I was not drunk. I was in ice storm and my car slid into 3 ft of snow median. I called police 4 help. They had other plans. I was stuck and wanted to go to my hotel. I was not passed out drunk. I was co-herent. I'm sorry if I let you down. Don't believe everything you read. My life is good and this is a speed bump in the road. The truth will come out. GOD bless. I take responsibility for this. My job is to stay clean and never put myself in jeopardy. TMZ blew it out of proportion. After my hearings, I will give you proper story. GOD bless. Kurt Angle. I love you all.”
Here’s my take: I believe in innocent until proven guilty, but this is not the first time Angle has been involved in such an incident. He was charged with driving under the influence in 2007, although he eventually was acquitted.
Still, two drinking-related arrests in less than four years in bound to raise eyebrows.

Interesting that angle claims that he was in an ice storm while in North Dakota. I live about 10 miles away from the area he was found. No ice storm. Come to think of it, it was actually a pretty clear and calm spring day/evening. Don't believe everything you hear.

Well, not a surprise...I find this interesting only in the fact that not only in wrestling, but in many sports and walks of life, we actually pretend to be aghast at such incidents.
Wrestling in particular has always been a place where drugs, partying and extreme behavior abound. I don't think it's really here nor there...just what it is.
What IS here nor there is that recent PPV controversy aside---Jeff Hardy takes crap for being into opium and whatever else he's into and possibly putting other performers in danger, when it is to be expected that we won't follow the Angle DWI so closely, (yeah, it's alleged for now---but look up how many wrestlers, athletes and other folks HAVE been indicted for or plead to it), even though such behavior puts random people at risk for death and injury at the wrong end of a 3,000 lb. piece of flying metal.
I'm not prosetlyizing for the right moral choice here, I'm just saying it's highly interesting how often alcohol is not considered a drug nor treated in the same way as other drugs in terms of how we talk about it. This is a pretty lonely comments section compared to Jeff Hardy's debacle-even though if we were to assume that Hardy was doped up and it wasn't a work, that Angle actually put people in more danger, and a greater danger of death and injury, if what he is accused of doing is true-(okay, theoretically-North Dakota roads aren't always bustling with traffic). And anyone he would have ran into on the road would not have already accepted the pre-established level of risk that wrestlers do just by the nature of the sport.
I know Hardy's crap was on PPV, blah,blah,blah...it only adds to its interest in terms of American versions of moral relevancy. We don't like our entertainment to be messed with, and Angle has never come to the RING drunk. He wouldn't do that...he's too professional. Right. With no judgment on right or wrong, I would just like to say that we are a weird bunch of cats.

Kurt Angle is lying. Real easy to debunk his claim. Check NOAA (National Weather Service). I live 2 miles north of where they found him. It was a beautiful day and night. The stars were out the wind was calm and THERE WAS NO ICE OR STORM. Maybe he should stop trying to figure out a lie and head to rehab. When a person tries to blame everything other than themselves it's time to try Rehab. First it was an icy spot then he was looking at a text msg now it's an ice storm. IDIOT!
