Those who said the rock is either bias or didn't watch raw because John Cena's was just way better (coming from someone who likes the rock WAY better)

It was close but The Rock won. I loved Cena's "Second Round Knockout" reference, which is a Hip Hop song whereby Cannibus took on LL Cool J.

Rock scored the first punch and therefore made the bigger impact...anything Cena said after that was automatically viewed with a lens of comparison. However as great as the Rock was on the 14th, I'm supporting Cena on this one, because a) his rap come back was more creative than than the standard (yet great) Rock promo and b) I still hold some resentment towards Rock for saying he loves the fans and loves the business and yet distances himself from it.
If anything, Cena gets my vote for this line alone:
"You tell the people you love them, I'm here every week to show it".

This was hard because I'm such a Rock fan. Rock's promo mad you laugh and remember how awesome he was on the mic, but Cena's was more unexpected because of how limited he's been. And what hit the hardest was when he said Rock left and he was the one who was there. Can't wait for the face to face promo they're bound to have.... Oh yeah, Miz was ok too.

The thing about this is Cena was only a part of the Rock's tirade. Granted it was the most scathing part but Cena's response was purely aimed at the rock and delivered more punch I think.

I agree with Cory. Everybody who said the rock was better might be bias. Cena really brought his A game in this one, and the episode also proved that he can deliver, if given the right material.

Cena blew me... away.
The dude is not my favorite wrestler and I often feel like his promos get the mood wrong-- he's jokey when he should be angry, he's shouty when he should be quietly intense-- but his comeback to the Rock was an awesome roller coaster ride. It was a brilliant mix of locker-room humor and seriousness. Yes it's too bad about the homophobic stuff but y'know, that's rasslin' for ya. Still funny & effective.
The only downside is now I'll be disappointed when Cena doesn't do this kind of thing more often.
I take nothing away from the Great One's greatness, but this was a first-round knockout for our love-him-or-hate him Monday night mainstay. I agree anyone saying the Rock was better is showing bias.

Bias? Cena's promo had some good lines - but it also had some bad ones. Just listen to the audience - they cheered and roared after some lines but they were also practically dead quiet after some other lines. While it was certainly nice to see Cena turning back the time and delivering some non-PG material, anyone who thought Cena's promo was perfect is the one who is bias.

Like Cory, I'm a much bigger fan of the Rock than I am of Cena, but there really is no comparison. Rock's promo was good (of course, the guy is pretty much incapable of giving a bad promo), but Cena absolutely killed him. I'm just looking forward to how Rock responds. Should be a very interesting month leading up to WM.

I admit I was impressed by the response of Cena but still voted for the Rock. Sorry, I can“t stand these gay jokes. For me they belong in the same corner as the fat jokes. Garbage.

There's no bias and unbiased opinion in this. It is very subjective. However I will go with Rock because even after 7 years, Rock just proved he hasn't lost any of his touch. Just because one votes for Rock doesn't make him/her biased, just as you guys voting for Cena doesn't make you biased. The Rock literally hand the audience at the palm of his hand and it felt like he was actually enjoying every second of it, where as Cena's promo as good as it was, came as little forced to me. But I absolutely liked how he went back to his old self. That is the Cena we liked. However Rock's promos are altogether of different level which not only Cena but no one can come close to, probably Austin or Piper but that is again a subject of debate.
And I also don't understand all this nonsense like Rock turned his back on us. If he had, he would have never made all those comebacks. He is following his dream. What is wrong in that? It is no secret how WWE is being viewed by most of the Hollywood dignitaries. And he owes it to nobody in WWE to keep coming back. This is just like saying Cena doesn't love his family because most of the time he's away from his family, so that he shows up for WWE. I mean, it makes absolutely no sense.

Rock is a better performer.
Rock is better at delivering promos.
Rock is better at working a crowd.
Rock says he loves the fans, Cena is there every week to show it.
While Rock's promo was delivered better in almost every way, and while there was some degree of truth to Rock's words. Cena not only spoke mostly truth, he also seemed to be speaking from the heart. And Cena's promo actually felt more like a shoot than Rock's which came off a little forced. I can't imagine Dwayne Johnson has any real beef with Cena.
If the only criteria were pure promo 'skill', rock would be a total no brainer. But honestly and heart played into this such that I have to say Cena came off as the better man in this exchange.

Cena bought his A game..but the Rock is from just another planet in cutting promos. It is not just the talking it is the stage presence and how the Rock commands the ring and the crowd.
Cena cannot get the same response...no one can.

I have to disagree with both Cory and Gaston. I have to give it to the Rock but not because I'm baised but because the Rock's verbal jab made more sense considering what Cena said about Rocky.
When the Rock left WWE for Hollywood, the only reason as to why he distanced himself was so that he can make a bigger impact on Hollywood than being just a wrestler and stereotyped.
Wrestlng has always been in his blood considering both his grandfather and father were wrestlers but the Rock surpassed both of them as far as being both a solid in ring performer and also one of the best stick men in the business, if not the best.
Granted, Cena's response was good too but and made me laugh when he pulled out the purple pinwheel and told the Rock to blow him but Rock's response to Cena proved that the Rock is still the best in the biz when it comes to verbal sparring and I cannot wait until they are face to face so that we can all be entertained by two future Hall of Famers.

I think it's a bit difficult to compare the two in-ring comments. The Rock went and talked about several different characters and topics while Cena spoke specifically on The Rock. The Rock is known to come up with some of the most clever and funny lines in the business. If he had taken the same amount of time it could be a more even match up. That being said, it hurts me to say that I feel as if Cena now has an upper hand in the verbal confrontation. Yes, I am a big Cena hater.

Cena hands down. thug o nomics made a strong comeback.
Posted by: Patrick Johnson | February 24, 2011 9:47 AM
Kev, really?...Really?....Really?!
Nah, only kidding, but i think Rocky is a stick on for this.
Posted by: Orton.1 | February 24, 2011 2:24 PM
I think the only reason people say the rock is better on the microphone is that as Cena grew into his own on the mic....WWE went to PG and cut him off. This is the same company that had the Mr. Ziggles gig...
Anyways I think that Cena won. Rock was interesting and definitely had the shock factor of showing up, but Cena had a lot of truth in his. Plus Rock calling Cena's "you can't see me" silly...this is the guy who asked if we could smell if he was cooking. What is this Marhta Stewart? I love the catch phrase but he can't even judge silliness (plus, for someone who said Cena looked like a Fruity Pebble he sure wore a lot of Hawaiian shirts...).

Are you going to offer an opinion on this one Kevin?
For me it's a definite win for Cena in this war on words. His lines were good as written, but what made them great was the truth behind them.
@Jason: I agree, that one line was enough for Cena to get my vote.
RESPONSE FROM KE: I thought Cena was more effective.

"biased", people. "bias" is a noun, "biased" is an adjective. "You are biased", not "You are bias".

when is sting coming to the wwe is it 2012?

First off, I'm a huge Rock fan, and he's my favourite WWE Superstar of all time. However, I was a big Cena fan from around the time he challenged Lesnar at Backlash 03 till about 2005 when he just got really boring. Anyway, I think its ridiculous that people think Cena "killed" The Rock. All he did was make fun of The Rock's movie roles. That would be like Wyclef saying Sean Penn is a mentally challenged gay guy cause of "I Am Sam" and "Milk". Rocky has said countless times that he left cause he had accomplished everything. People are always complaining that Flair and Hogan should hang it up cause they've "done it all", yet Rocky walked away (quietly) and people say he sold out. There is nothing wrong with walking away at the top. Cena's spoken word written promo (that was NOT a rap) was nothing special. Just like Cena himself. The Rock will always be a bigger star than Cena, and "JC" can't handle that fact.

Isn't part of rap the rhythm, timing, and pacing to a beat? There was no music, so therefore no beat. In that instance, it is up to the performer to set the tone...and there was none with Cena, which brings me to this point.
He was being a poet, not a rapper. And this is so unoriginal because I for one saw this before eons ago with "Leaping" Lanny Potho who brought that schtick back later in his career as "the Genius."
There is nothing new about Cena; other than the colors he wears. There is nothing original about Cena. He's a decent wrestler with a basic move set that has a good physique.

Ok im a die hard rocky fan always have been but for those of you that say the rock made the first blow your wrong. John Cena started this two years ago.. Just like everything else in the WWE. It takes so long for a fight to brew.. And Cena is a 9 time world champion just like rocky and cena has years to go where as rocky is dead.. Just remember that bias people. I wished they would actually fight. That would be a long and most entertaining fight
