Mystery of WWE’s 2-21-11 video solved?

On Monday night’s episode of Raw, WWE aired a slightly different version of the cryptic video that first aired on the previous week’s Raw, and the new clip might be a bad sign for all the fans who believed the original video was a prelude to Sting debuting in WWE and possibly facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVII.

Like the first video, this one featured a dark figure in a long, black coat approaching a creepy-looking house in a rainstorm, with a graphic that said “2-21-11.” The new wrinkle is that there was a snippet from a Johnny Cash song. The lyric was: “Ain’t no grave can keep my body down.”

Obviously, that clue strongly suggests that the video is teasing the return of The Undertaker, who we last saw being “buried alive” at the Bragging Rights pay-per-view in October.

When I saw the original video last week, my first thought was that it was for The Undertaker, and the fact that local advertising for Raw on Feb. 21 in Fresno, Calif., promoted “the return of The Undertaker” seemed to confirm my belief.

However, many in the Internet Wrestling Community came to the conclusion that the video signaled the debut of Sting, and the story quickly took on a life of its own. It’s to the point where a lot of fans are probably going to be really let down if Sting doesn’t show up in WWE.

And he still may be WWE bound. The fact is that Sting is a free agent, and even if the “2-21-11” videos are for The Undertaker’s return, the possibility exists that WWE still could bring in Sting for WrestleMania to face The Undertaker.

The popular belief was that Sting was going to re-sign with TNA and be part of a Main Event Mafia reunion on last week’s Impact, but that angle fell through and the only original member of the MEM to return to TNA was Scott Steiner. To further add to the Sting-to-WWE speculation, his profile has just been removed from TNA’s website, even though he has not been under contract since the end of 2010.

Stay tuned.

I believe that parts of that same song have been used in Undertaker promos in the past.

I stand but what I have said before...... "the only thing that is sure for the Stinger is that nothing is for sure".

Although it would be a lot of fun to have Sting in the WWE.

Do you think that if Sting isn't going to the WWE that TNA will take advantage of the hype? If I were TNA I'd continue to let people think the WWE is hyping up Sting and even do things to encourage that thinking like taking his profile off the website. Then come 2-21-11 when the WWE Universe is let down with the return of the Undertaker, tell the world that the TNA Champion is set to face mystery opponent on 2-24-11. I'm sure there are more creative ways to go about it, but if Sting is staying with TNA they could really take advantage of things and draw some viewers on Thursdays.

Most people didn't believe Sting would be there on 2-21. It was all about him being at Wrestlemania which I still believe will be the case. Is it a lock Kev that the Rock, considering what he wrote last week, is the Wrestlemania guest host or since Bob Barker has already been confirmed as being a part of Wrestlemania is he the guest host with the Rock's name being thrown out there as a tease to the "internet marks"?

I'm hoping for a major swerve here. But I don't know that 2-21-11 would be long enough to stage a proper storyline. I'd love to see it, and even Nash said last week Sting would be foolish to pass up the chance if VKM threw it out there.
BTW, any chance the WM host is Dwayne Johnson? HBK would be too simple.

Yeah Undertaker used that song for each promo leading up to the 18-0 Taker vs. Michaels match.

Yeah, I saw that video and thought the same thing. The song was also used in the promo videos last year for HBK/Taker II, so it seems unlikely to me that they'd use it for anything other then the Undertaker's return. Shame.

Unless it's all a swerve....

Another pretty obvious clue that the promo was for the Undertaker was that the exact same Johnny Cash song was featured in this promo that we saw about a thousand times leading up to Undertaker's match at last year's Wrestemania:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX_7CYBdY5E

It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for WWE to use a song for an Undertaker promo one year and then use the same song for someone else's promo the next. That and, as you said, the fact the line they used fits Undertaker's current situation pretty perfectly.

I think it's D'Lo Brown.

This reminds me of the article where we determined the leader of the Nexus was Abraham Washington.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Abraham Washington as the leader of The Nexus? What idiot said ... oh, wait. Never mind.

I saw on a few blogs were TNA no longer has Sting on the active roster but you have another say Sting will sign with TNA so it all over the place but i thought Raw in general was good Randy Orton Busted CM Punk's nose and Miz and King Jerry exchange was entertaining .

I believe that Sting will sign with WWE before he retires. Whether or not he faces the Undertaker at Wrestlemania I doubt it.

My guess is that the Johnny Cash song was added to the commerical after the rumors of the video being related to Sting started. That way, WWE can lead fans in the direction of The Undertaker's return, quickly burst the bubbles of fans who thought it would be Sting so they're not too disappointed on 2/21/11, and still possibly surprise them if Sting eventually shows up after all.

Maybe its Evan Bourne...

I had heard last month that Val Venis re-signed with WWE. I bet this is just a video to hype his return. It almost makes TOO much sense! Then he'll face the Undertaker at Mania and end the streak. Duh.

JOKING by the way!! Don't anybody take this seriously haha.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Remember the Val Venis vignettes begore he made his WWE debut? tThe tag line was "Val Venis is coming." Get it?

I'm still holding out for STING !!!

Their probably talking about his bad knees.
That and "A'int no grave gonna hold my body down", I believe that was a religious hymn before Joaquin Phoenix got ahold of it.

That and why do we need another return of the UNDERTAKER storyline.

He never . . . . AND I MEAN NEVER !!!
Ever leaves !!!!

Even during the Monday Night Wars . . . everyone was rumored to be leaving even Shawn Michaels, remember the Wolf Pack Signs.

But not the UnderTaker. . .

2-21-11

The day the Undertaker comes back from Vacation .. . . I just cant wait !!!!!!

Guess there's no UFC fight that day.

Looks like The Stinger has Creative Control.

Kurt Angle is the only other MEM member that returned, not just Steiner.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Angle never left. None of the other guys were still under contract.

no no no the undertaker comes back to smackdown which will be in kansas city mo on 3/15/11 and it will be on the friday night show go to the url and look

This promo is for The Undertaker. Plain and simple.

HOWEVER, that being said The Undertaker will come on February 21, 2011 and he will be attacked by both Wade Barrett, his Core, and Kane -- these are the two athletes who took Taker out and whom Taker has yet to get even with.

There will be repeated attacks on The Undertaker by Wade Barrett and his crew. Long story short Taker will get WrestleMania secret partner. Taker & Sting must somehow defeat Kane, Wade Barret, and the entire Core.

Sting won't want to lose to Taker and Taker won't want to lose his streak at 19 anyway, so it will be some kind of tag match like this. If, however, this opinion starts circulating to heavily throughout the Web and WWE gets wind of it, it's not what will happen. WWE likes throwing everyone off and doing the swerves so this is what I think will go down UNLESS it becomes the popular opinion.

How about the Undertaker returns and is attacked by Sting?

I agree with Bill strongly. Could Vince have done TNA a huge favor if the 2-21-11 is not Sting. I would say 100% yes. TNA has to be pinching themselves if this has fallen in their laps. but would Vince even go there if he hadn't had Sting under contract. Soem dirt sheers were specualting as early as mid-January that Sting had or was goign to sign with the WWE.
PROMO: It seems to be too obvious that 2-21 is Taker taking the starch out of the hole return thing. If everyone believes it's Taker and the Arena has indeed promoted it and rightly so, who is going to watch what is already known?

The video this week on 2-14-11 will tell the tail I think. It would be interesting if they played the Johnny Cash song but then had the "needle skip over the record" sound effect played loudly halfway through it and then the WCW theme play very faintly in the background and then the signature Sting howl at the end or the "who is afraid of the big black bat" phrase from the NWO days. Then the net would be all a buzz again. We'll see this Monday. I have another scenerio if it is indeed Taker on 2-21 that involves HBK/HHH

Kev you still don't think that it might not be Sting even though the promo did never made me think that it is going to be sting based on his comments from the past but a major newspaper in NY stated that sting had signed a I year not saying that a newspaper can't be wrong but the fact that a newspaper would site a wrestling story is big.

Here's how I would do it if I were a writer for the WWE:

On February 21, in the last segment of the show, the last of the series of videos plays on the TitanTron. Then the lights go off, we hear the gong, see the fire and the Druids come out to accompany Undertaker to the ring. Of course, people are happy to see Undertaker back but disappointed that he was the man behind the videos. Undertaker gets in the ring and says that he is only back to say goodbye, that he is retiring, because there is nothing left for him to do. He could get revenge on Nexus, but Nexus is a new group than what it was. He could get revenge on Wade Barrett, but Barrett isn't worth his time (thus setting up a future program between the two when Barrett takes offense to this comment). He could fight at Wrestlemania, but he's already 18-0 and there is no one left in the back that he couldn't beat or, for that matter, that is worthy of facing him on the grandest stage of them all. Suddenly, the lights go out again and when they come back on, one of the Druids has entered the ring. He slowly takes off the robes to reveal that it's....Sting! Sting attacks Undertaker with his baseball bat and the show ends with Sting standing over Undertaker's lifeless body.

Okay Vince, take it from here....

Actually the lyrics are: "There ain't no grave gonna hold my body down"... still means the same, but that's the correct part of the lyrics! ;-)
And it will be Taker's return, even though he doesn't need teasers!

Kev,

Although I've been following wrestling for years, I've only been following the "IWC" recently. In your experience, if Sting was not coming to the WWE, do you think he would have come out and publicly denied it by now? Or is he just as likely to remain silent?

He must be aware of the speculation and choosing not to make any comment. Does that suggest he's coming?

RESPONSE FROM KE: I wouldn't expect Sting to respond either way.

Kevin, has Sting had any comment about this?

RESPONSE FROM KE: Not that I've seen.

I think its Slither aka The Boogeyman

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuZws2aa9ok

It's likely the Undertaker, however, he never made simple promos like this... always static heavy, subliminal demonic-esque messages.. isn't it strange how he is just walking around in a shed like a 'human' and not a 'dead man'? I just hope Sting comes to the WWE somewhere in time and for the two to wrestle. I'm tired of just Undertaker as the only dark, legendary character

It would crack me up if it was Jericho dressed like the Undertaker, and at the big reveal he says, "What? You were expecting someone else?" That would be serious heel heat! And a mighty good swerve at that!

Kane wins the elimination chamber
undertaker returns the next night and challenges for the title that night.
wins it
sets up for a mania program with Del Riiiooooo.

but think about that. del rio as takers opponent this year? i think it is the best pick. unless cena had already turned heel by now.

Micah, I like your idea! Good job! Become a writer! I want to but they won't hire me. I got some good storylines! I think it is Sting. Why would Undertaker have a promo with rain, lightning, and thunder, also when was the last time we saw a return date for the Undertaker. The arena and WWE said that Undertaker is returning on the 21st but these vids say something else I think. Lets see what happens in the next promo!

I thnk its sumbody we nt expectin it cud be taker, sting or hw bout the game himself bt I'd love 2 c a taker vs sting match at mania or even them tag teaming hw u thnk dis match will be taker nd sting team wid horton nd cena 2 becum untouchables

Kev, how could you even think it might be sting. He technically never had a WWE career, and if he does come and face taker, he would have only 2 months of WWE experience. That would be a terrible storyline.

What about something like Sid Justice coming back to the WWE, it would make sence, and the 3rd video that was on raw last night didnt look like the undertakers chest at all, there were rumors a few years back that sid was trying to get back into wwe, and with kevin nash returning, and shawn michales already slated for wrestlemania, why not have both of his formor body guards face each other??

Not only is it the Undertaker, it makes no sense to me why they would promote the Undertaker this way. And I have a feeling he will face either Cena or Kane at wrestlemania......which does not make me want to see that match. I wanted to see Sting in WWE, not only to see him face Orton and the Undertaker but maybe put him in the hall of fame and maybe put out a sting dvd. I have my old WCW sting vhs tape and its ok, but I would love to see a DVD that is all sting's WCW matches. TNA can not do that so that is a downer. I know the rumors were just that, rumors but when a newspaper announces it, makes you wonder.

i think it's duke the dumpster drosse

RESPONSE FROM KE: That's a bunch of garbage.

If it is anyone other than the undertaker on 2 21, the WWE has done a good job at keeping it low profile. With all these sting rumors if the WWE hasn't signed sting yet they probably will now. Someone above mention sid justice I have hear that rumor too.

It's the SANDMAN!

I'm taking a completely different view on this. The last promo showed a man in the house and a man outside. The man inside looked exactly like HBK. Remember his obsession with Taker, I don't think that obsession is over. I think we will see a darker HBK, living and acting like the Taker so he can learn what he's about and finally beat him. The man outside..........questionable. Some think it's a dark side of HHH waiting to avenge his best-friend's retirement from last year. Others think it is Taker and he's trying to find out who this strange person is walking in his home.

ok i like all of he comments but im with the possible HBK N HHH thing n we all kno it the undertaker come on the long leather coat all yea did anybody even see the hat its the exact same one takers wears n question did anybody see a tattoo on the person neck if soo then guess wat its the undertaker he have a tattoo on his neck i think its about 4 or 5 letters roman letters at that n also the westling attire on this man is the same as undertakers the walk is the same n come on it dont only have to b one person n this video it could b two or three plus the video is not the same they been changin up like crazy n who ever said sting i say i wit u but if sting do come on to the WWE he coming back n not alone undertaker n i heard undertaker was tryin to fight the UFC DUDE brock lasner wat happen to that i kno the WWE inside n out i been watchin for aleast 17years

You guys are all way off! It's Raven who is coming back to take out the Undertaker.

undertaker sting and gangrel versus hhh hbk and diesel

Has any one thought maybe shawn michaels couls be coming back to taunt the undertaker into a third match. i hate watching guys fights over and over and over like they did with batista and cena in mid 2010 but hey the first two matches between take and hbk were amazing and the wwe knows the fans loved it so why not do one last match between them before taker finally retires cause you gotta know thats coming

It's gonna be Taker, with HHH making a return very shortly after setting up a career vs streak match just like last year. HHH will lose putting him out and allowing him to fully take on his corporate job. Plus, Undertaker was spotted in the airport going to the very same place Raw is being held tonight. Coincidence? You would be dumb to think otherwise.

On the off chance it is Sting...man that would be so epic, but I don't see it happening.
