Kaval released by WWE

Kaval, the winner of WWE NXT Season 2, has been released by WWE, the company announced on its website.

According to a report on pwinsider.com, the parting of the ways between Kaval and WWE was amicable, as the company simply did not have any plans for him.

Judging by how Kaval was booked on Smackdown after winning NXT in August, it was fairly obvious that WWE did not view him as a major player the way it did NXT Season 1 winner Wade Barrett. For that matter, WWE seemed more impressed with NXT Season 2 runners-up Michael McGillicutty, Alex Riley and Husky Harris than it was with Kaval, whose wins on WWE TV were few and far between.

On Tuesday’s live Smackdown, Kaval lost to Drew McIntyre in approximately 30 seconds.

Personally, while I didn’t necessarily see Kaval as a future world champion, I do think WWE could have done more with him because of his unique style and in-ring ability. Programs between Kaval and the likes of Rey Mysterio, Daniel Bryan and Evan Bourne (among others) would likely have been crowd-pleasers.

As far as his next move, I would expect to see Kaval – a 12-year pro who has wrestled on the independent scene as Low Ki and in TNA as Senshi – eventually go back to Ring of Honor. I don’t think TNA, with its bloated roster, would be an option at this point.

He's a very talented guy who wasn't used properly.

Great work this year, Kevin. Thanks for keeping us up to date on all the key happenings in the WWF and TNA and for your reasoned assessments.

They shouldn't have introduced public voting into NXT, because they ended up with a winner they didn't want.

Re: "They shouldn't have introduced public voting into NXT, because they ended up with a winner they didn't want."

WWE steers the voting anyways...look at what they did with kaitlyn and vickie helping her get over with the crowd...any of the diva rookies paired with vickie probably would win under that story! kaval was paired with the only divas on season 2...

And yet Chris Masters, JTG, Darren Young, Vladimir Kozlov, David Otunga, Heath Slater, Michael Tarver, The Bellas, The Great Kahli, Hornswoggle, Kelly Kelly, Tyler Reks and Rosa Mendes still have a job?

That's entertainment!

Maybe WWE should have re-introduced some kind of Light Heavyweight title for someone like Kaval to compete for. The likes of Yoshi Tatsu, Evan Bourne etc are all amazing talents, but WWE never seems to have anything worthwhile lined up for them - at least those kind of matches would bring some entertainment.

So which 'superstar' white anted him over his stiff style this time?

The quicker he's back in TNA and working brilliant matches with Styles, Lethal and MCMG the better.

BTW Eck, i don't know how 'amicable' it could possibly be given they fired the poor bloke a couple of days out from Christmas.

I understand it's a business but the timing is pretty ordinary on WWE's part.

ok so how do you know that this news is true i looked on the site and it said nothing about kaval being released, im not saying i don't beleive you but it said nothing about it , this does not make sense, most of my friends are so into wwe, just like me and me being 15 , i understand alot of things that happen, but can u send me a link that shows he was released thank you.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Here you go.

The only reason I find this surprising is because of how close it was to the end of NXT: Season 2. The WWE is not even trying with the show anymore and releasing the last winner destroys any credibility it had left.

The WWE has long had a problem with smaller wrestlers. Low Ki could have had great matches with Rey, Evan, Yoshi, Bryan, Tyson, Punk, Regal- its a long list ...

I'm afraid the writing was on the wall. Kaval was paired with Laycool while he was on NXT, and he was frequently jobbing to NXT rookies WWE wanted to push to winning the competition (I remember a series of losses to Husky Harris in particular). And even though Kaval won NXT, the other members of that season's final four got much better gigs than Kaval: Harris and McGillicutty joined the Nexus, and Riley became the Miz's apprentice.

It's terribly unfair :(
I blame the fact that they continue putting the seasons of NXT after the other. In the end it feels like a let down- you have a winner and all of the sudden, it's starting from scratch again.
They start to build up with 'winners' and even the 'non-winners' to participate on the regular shows that they simply have no room for the new 'cast.'
Kaval was something fresh.

So much for the WWE family. Firing one of your best liked and most talented good guys who has fought the odds and more than paid his dues for 12 years - and right before Christmas... it's so wrong on so many levels.

To be fair, all of those wrestlers barely get TV time now, except for maybe Otunga. It sounds more like Kaval wants to stay busy and wrestling, which is probably easier for him in the indies at this point.

I thought he was really solid in the ring, but not much on the mic. If you already have Bourne and Daniel Bryan, you probably don't need a third guy like that, especially with how stacked the rest of the roster is.

Well so much for one day seeing a Kaval action figure.

I'm absolutely stunned by the news. The guy is pure magic - one of the most innovative wrestlers -sorry, superstars, I've seen in over 50 years of watching. As Barry sai, "That's entertainment". They could have done so much with him. At the end of the day I'ts our loss!

Alex Riley wrote on a social networking site that Kaval wasn't in the good graces of the bosses because he kept hurting people. He posted a link to a video of Kaval kicking him far too hard, and badly injuring him.

Kaval walked like an Indy guy, he talked like an Indy guy, and he looked like an Indy guy. Nothing WWE did was able to change any of that. He does not have what it takes to work the big room.

Had WWE been serious about getting him over, they would have booked him to vandalize Alberto Del Rio's car and call it "poopy."

Unbelievable. They have him lose week in and week out and then claim they have no plans for him. Then again, he never really stood a chance to begin with.

I hope he gets booked by the WWC so I can see him in the ring with Carlito and Primo.

The dude couldn't handle the WWE life and he wanted out. I can only imagine how happy Vince was to give that lazy midget the boot.

That's a shame. I enjoy his style, and was beginning to look forward to matches pitting him against other lightweight wrestlers such as Mysterio, Brian and Ziggler, or maybe even with CM Punk.

Hey Kev, just wanted to wish you happy holidays!

RESPONSE FROM KE: Thanks and same to you.

Merry Christmas from 70' Florida, Kevin! So much for a white Christmas here. Anyway, Senshi/Lo Ki/Kaval was amazing in all the times I saw him wrestle, but Vince hasn't shown much love for the little guys through the years. He always seems to like the Test/Batista types best.

I mentioned those names because I feel Low Ki has so much more upside than any of those people. He's awesome in the ring and decent, though not great, on the mike. But it seems WWE had no idea how to use him. Case in point: even though Bryan Danielson is doing well, they still feel the need to saddle him with The Bellas, rather than just letting him get over like he always did, by putting on great matches (Which he has been doing anyway).

If Low Ki asked for his release because he was disillusioned with lack of opportunity, it speaks volumes of his character. Like you said, he'll get more work and be much more appreciated on the Indies, rather than staying there for years, taking a paycheck and then going to the internet to cry, bitch and moan about how unhappy he is. Pay attention, Matt Hardy!

Releasing KAval: lame
no plans for him: lamer
releasing an NXT winner voted on by fans because of no plans:lamest

His matches were one reason I bothered to watch Smackdown. Oh well....

Someone indicated he was lazy? Where does that come from? HIs in ring performances would indicate otherwise.

The injury on that video is more on Riley being an inexperienced rassler, imo.

some of yall basically said wat i was sayin. and this is another example of wat i said before: this is another example of WWE not knowin how to use some of the amazing talent they have. at least he had the forefront to save his integrity by leavin on his own instead of them firing him themselves. that woulda been worse than them releasing him on Christmas. well lemme rephrase: it woulda been worse if they fire him themselves on Christmas like some ppl(myself included)though at first.

kaval is one of the few reasons i watch smackdown. before i was all undertaker, cruiserweight. but then they killed that division. which now everything is about heavyweights. which is terrible cause of how easy it is to win in it. (miz, sheamus) just to name few. with kavals release it shows that they know what their doing.
