How will WWE react to disappointing Raw rating?

Monday night’s episode of Raw scored a 2.8 rating, the lowest number the show has done in nearly two years.

The rating surprised me because I thought the show was really good, plus it was the night after the Night of Champions pay-per-view. Raw ratings traditionally drop off somewhat during NFL season, but not to this extent.

It will be interesting to see how WWE reacts, as the company has often gone into hot-shotting mode when Raw ratings dipped in the past. Next week's show, by the way, is already in the can, as it was taped Monday.

If the WWE decision makers are on the fence about a potential John Cena heel turn, perhaps Monday’s rating will convince them to pull the trigger on it and really shake things up.

I'm one of the many who decided to watch football instead of RAW last night. Why should I bother to see the same stuff week after week: Nexus gets buried, Super Cena, keep dragging out the mystery GM stuff, when I can watch a great football game instead?

Until WWE changes things there is no thinking about what I am going to watch on Monday nights for the rest of the year.

WWE needs a Cena heel turn!! Also needs to can the Nexus from running to the ring for interference now. Not saying disband them, just stop the 'rabid dog' thing.

ALso would love to see more confrontations between Daniel Bryan and Micheal Cole - it would be great if during a match, Bryan slipped out and clocked Cole!

WWE has also answered past ratings dips by focusing on the Raw headliners even more. For your sake, I hope that you like Cena.

As soon as Jericho becomes the GM, the ratings will SOAR!

I haven't watched in over a year now and the main reason is because I simply can't stand John Cena - if they turned him heel I could get interested in watching again

Kind of funny. Nexus get's neutered and the rating tanks. They took the one hot angle they had and wet the bed with it for the sake of returning to safe booking.

I think a Cena heel turn should be held off though. If they rush it, it would be as big a dud as when Austin joined the Alliance.

I think a quick boost without totally wrecking the product would be to tease out a compelling conclusion to the GM mystery. The reveal just needs to be significant. Abraham Washington won't cut it anymore.

As a looooong time viewer of RAW, I have not watched RAW in three weeks because of one person and one person only. Michael Cole. He gets in the way, his comments about Daniel Bryan don't get heat they get annoyed viewers who change the channel. If I had to hear that Daniel Bryan doesn't have a TV and is a vegan one more time I would have lost it. Bring back JR and RAW will get back it's audience.

Why did they already tape RAW? A couple weeks ago they did it because of an overseas tour, did they go on another one?

RESPONSE FROM KE: The Raw crew has shows in France this week, the final one on Saturday.

I dont think WWE has to worry. Last night, along with MNF, a lot of highly touted tv shows had premiered on television. (dancing with the stars, the event, etc.). Fall tv officially started so it's not a surprise that Raw ratings dropped. Besides, after monday's intriguing show involving nexus/cena, im sure it'll pick back up next week. i know i'll be watching.

Monday night was a horrible show. Cena will turn heel at Hell in the Cell he will lose due to outside interference and have to join Nexus. The "beating" on Daniel Bryan went way too long as was a repeat of the last confrontations between the Miz and Bryan. It's time for some new feuds and some new storylines...otherwise Raw will no longer be the A show especially with Smackdown debuting on SYFY October 1. and where is Triple H????

Lol lol lol Beloved Raw is going down down down. I guess there's only so many times you can repeat Cena-Orton-Sheamus. How long before Vince changes tack and goes back to the tawdry PG13. I'm guessing as soon as Linda gains her seat in the senate and being a Republican she can easily weedle her way through and say that it was irrelevant and had nothing to do with her campaign. Numb brain wrestling fans will proclaim WWE the greatest thing on earth again.

I totally agree with you that this past Monday's show was actually pretty decent.

Although it was fairly predictable, I really enjoyed how a few of the segments were a little edgier than usual. I think Orton was pushing the family friendly line a little with his word choice and delivery. And of course the Miz / Daniel Bryan confrontation was intense as well.

Count me in as someone who would love to see a return to the PG-13 style of content. But, at least for now, I was happy to see things heat up a little bit.

With the internet and such giving away what is going on behind the scenes and such, one of wrestlings biggest pluses (the OMG factor) is gone. ... We know to much about what is going on and unless Vince or any other wrestling organization can put back in the OMG factor, wrestling will continue to lose viewers.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Had to make a slight edit to your comment because you gave away something from next Monday's Raw. Not everyone knows or wants to know the spoilers.

I quit watching wwe a long time ago. John Cena is the worse wrestler in history. he cannot wrestle, act, his rapping sucks, and more. good or bad i hate him. the wwe's plan to make him the next big thing is like watching a rerun of wcw running itself into the ground. Cena needs to be out of the wwe and the wwe needs to go back to a tv14 rating. the great kali is a kick a** superstar and he should be given a bigger oppertunity to be the next big thing along with dolf ziggler, and others. Along with Cena the politics suck. Cena waqs one thing but when wwe got into politics i wanted to just take the wwe banner and wizz on it. wwe sold out big time to the corrupt and stupidity. I am now a TNA fan.

WWE is so rated G now. Only thing that remotely makes it different from a cartoon is the divas. And they do not compare to the Tna knockouts as it is. They don't need a heel turn by cena or a story line to catch fire. They really need to be agressive again like they were during the attitude era. They just need to bring back the unpredictability to the show. Its so predictable lately. Plus they need the shades of grey characters. Not just one (Orton) but many. They need a tag team divison that is not two wrestlers at the end of a run. They need a heel that seems unstoppeable and not lose the first time they face the babyface in the first showdown. To me, a great story line is the Austin vs McMahon fued. It went both ways.....especially when everyone thought that Vince really did fire stone cold.
Also, this computer gm needs to go. Just bring in a name, any name, and use them as a GM.

One thing they could do is get Cena to shut up. Tired of his promos. Always the same thing all the time.

A heel turn? Why not, wasn't he a heel before when he was a thug rapper? That way he can change his look once again, sport new colors, and sell new t-shirts. I find it very humorous that a guy that screamed bloody murder in the ring about Vince McMahon being in it for just the money is the same guy that had just changed his colors from John Deere/Green Bay Packers, to Denver Broncos colors (Tebow draft), and now is sporting Lakers colors (just won the championship).

I don't know how well it will go over now with how goody-goody Cena has been for so long. What angle would he have?

It would be great to have him turn, then have Edge and Jericho call him out on it since they said that he was the problem to begin with when this Nexus thing started...especially Jericho. A face turn for Jericho would be HUGE.

This is no surprise, ratings for the WWE always drop when the new fall TV sched. arrives. Personally, I DVR'd it to watch "Dancing with the Stars."

RESPONSE FROM KE: Yes, but they don't usually drop to 2.8.

Not surprising. It was only a matter of time before this happened. I am a wretling fan...not just WWE or TNA fan. I'd love to see them both succeed so we'd have great wrestling again. However, everyone has to admit that for some time now, WWE has been on autopilot. They rehash the same wrestlers over and over. The same story lines over and over. They destroy the hottest angle in wrestling since the NWO with the Nexus. It has become forumlaic and everyone knows the formula.

I'm really not sure a Cena heel turn will work. WWE has tried to build Cena into Hulk Hogan version 2 and this is just a different time than were the 80's. He doesn't have it like Hogan did back then. The heel stars that feuded with Hogan and made Hogan like Andre, Roddy Piper, Paul Orndorff, Sgt. Slaughter, and Randy Savage just aren't there anymore. Hogan would have never been great without the heels he feuded with. A Cena heel turn would not have the shock value that the Hogan heel turn had.

WWE needs to break out of the formula and give us great storylines, invest in character building, and make larger-than-life wrestlers again.

Bring on HHH, and the ratings will go up. And the Viper should not loose to the MIZ since he is possessing the Money in the Bank.

when the the wwe stops being PG the rating will get higher bring back the sexy divas

Wow, I didn't realize Russo read your blog, Kevin! And he leaves comments as Vince Cable!

i don't know why everyone is so upset with the E Football is the king of sports and with everyone else having season premires this week they were in a no win situation. I do wish they would stop ripping off WWE story line though because if Cena loses they will do the old Rey misterio/LWO story line where he is just there and will not do anything heel like or they will mess with him in the group.

Bring back TV-14. Get the Divas doing something besides just wrestling!

The best thing WWE could do is let Nexus win at HIAC. It would be what everyone wants but no one believes will really happen. The happy surprise what they did at Summerslam with Danielson so I think they'll do it again with a Cena heel turn. I don't know if it will improve ratings but I know it would make the plot more exciting.

Vinnie Mac scores ratings. He'll be back on the show soon. HHH as well, with his sledgehammer and water bottle in tow. Turn Cena heel ASAP.

Today's style is just getting hard to watch. We've seen everything there is to see and the element of surprise is no longer present. The magic is gone

Did you see the new Hawaii Five-O? It was as forgetable as this RAW was. Dancing with the Stars? Who cares, we can get that lousy dancing on NXT this year. Though, I might add, lately on RAW, NXT, and SD, you can just listen to it and not actually watch it since the action has been more promos and announcers.
BTW, speaking of the new Hawaii Five-O, the new "Khono" could probably whip all the NXT contestants. And I think Cole should go on Dancing with the Stars. Oh wait, that would kill RAW ratings even more then the writers have.

WWE has sold out. All it cares about is putting "pretty" faces on TV.

I agree with The Mythical One. Jericho should turn face, poiting out that Cena choosing to stay in the bizz a heel instead of quiting is probably the most dishornable thing he could do.l

That's be awesome.

The problem with RAW is, you see the same thing week after week! Get over it with Nexxus, stop the nonsense with the MIZ (I get so sick of seeing his ugly face and that stupid hairdo), and let someone else win a title. I googled the wrestlers last night, most of them are near retirement age, so they should go! I hate watching RAW as much as I hate watching Smackdown, I am sick of seeing Viki Guerrero and those stupid LayCools! I actually enjoyed Hawaii 5-0 because I didn't have to hear Michael Cole's voice for once.

pls bring back triple h let him handle the nexus stuff plus bring back al members of nexus..nexus shuld stay...if they disbands wwe rating goes below 1 tats 4 sure..even i wil stop watching wwe

I don't think turining cena heel will do much to help the ratings after all he's still the most popular wrestler they have especially with the kids.
I have felt watching raw over the last couple of months the show has been under par in my view is because their is TOO MUCH TALKING.A lot of the matches you see go for 2 to 3 mins then it's 15 mins of talking before the next one starts.
It's no John Cena fault.
