Raw: On second thought, Edge and Chris Jericho decide to be team players

The road to SummerSlam sure has been a rocky one for Team WWE. The John Cena-led squad went from seven members to five to four. As of now, it’s back up to six.

Edge and Chris Jericho, who both quit the team last week on Raw, decided during the final segment of Monday night’s Raw that it was in their best interests to re-join the team. Earlier in the show, however, The Great Khali was taken out by The Nexus, so Team WWE is still one member short for its main event elimination match against The Nexus at the SummerSlam pay-per-view on Sunday.

The Miz told Cena and Bret Hart that he would consider being on the team but that he wouldn’t give them his answer until Sunday. It will be interesting to see if WWE goes with The Miz or if he is just being teased to swerve people and WWE ends up filling the spot with a big name making a surprise appearance.

Other thoughts on Monday’s show:

The crowd really popped at the end of the program when Jericho and Edge stood alongside the other members of Team WWE opposite The Nexus and a brawl broke out between the two groups. It was an ideal way to end Raw’s go-home show for SummerSlam. …

The best segment on the show was the verbal/physical confrontation between Randy Orton and Sheamus. Orton played his anti-hero role perfectly and Sheamus more than held his own with “The Viper” on the mic and with his facial expressions. I’m still not a big fan of Sheamus being WWE champion, but after seeing this segment I am more interested in the Orton-Sheamus match at SummerSlam than I was before. …

Jericho was great on the mic as usual during the opening segment with Hart. …

What was with Hart competing in the main event (he and Cena faced Edge and Jericho in a tag team match with The Nexus as lumberjacks) in a Batman t-shirt, jeans and sneakers? We all know that Hart is very limited as far as what he can do physically in the ring, but shouldn’t he at least give the appearance that he is going to wrestle? …

Evan Bourne pulled off a move during his losing effort against The Miz that I don’t think I have ever seen before. With his back to the ring, Bourne spring-boarded off the second rope and hit a huracanrana in one fluid motion. …

Speaking of cool, innovative moves, I don’t know what to call that flip move that John Morrison did to Zack Ryder during the tag match in which Morrison and R-Truth defeated Ryder and William Regal, but it was fantastic. …

I understand what WWE was trying to accomplish in the story line by having The Nexus “take out” Khali and potential Team WWE members The Hart Dynasty and Mark Henry, but none of the beat-downs looked so severe that the guys wouldn’t be able to compete by Sunday. …

It was curious that Ranjin Singh was not with Khali this week. That could mean nothing, or it could mean that Singh is turning on Khali. The Singh character doesn’t do much for me, so I really don’t care to see him with an expanded role. …

It came as no surprise that Melina defeated WWE Divas champion Alicia Fox in their non-title match. It was announced afterward that Melina will challenge Fox for the title at SummerSlam. Fox, by the way, looked as if she hit her head hard on the mat when taking Melina’s Last Call finisher. …

In the six-man tag match featuring the remaining NXT Season 2 rookies, Husky Harris pinned Kaval. Again. Whatever. …

No, the Divas Summertime Spectacular match was not a technical wrestling classic, but it featured six Divas in swimsuits, so what’s not to like? I was surprised to see The Bellas get the win over the teams of Eve Torres/Gail Kim and Maryse/Jillian Hall. And they did it without resorting to the Old Switcheroo. …

It looks as if Santino Marella’s new love interest is going to be Tamina. I suppose this will lead to a program between Marella and Vladimir Kozlov and The Usos.

The move Morrison did was actually Paul Burchills finisher when he did the pirate gimmick.

"What was with Hart competing in the main event...in a Batman t-shirt, jeans and sneakers?....shouldn’t he at least give the appearance that he is going to wrestle?"

Based on that observation & comment I assume that means Cena must've finally shown up wearing wrestling trunks & not a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers.

I bet if HBK showed up in jorts it wouldn't be mentioned ;)

Kind of another boring Raw until the end i loved the Diva swimsuits there were rumors that the Rock may show up to promote his movie but he was in Porto Rico shooting Fast and Furious 5 .

The move Morrison did was called the C4. Paul Birchill used it while wrestling in England and a few times in WWE pre-pirate.

Really thought Hart was turning at the end of the show, lining with "fellow Canadians" Edge & Jericho, revealing he was behind the Nexus beatdown of VKM. That would have made Summerslam very interesting. (Guess it could still happen)
Add THD and you have a New Hart Foundation going anti-US again.
Don't know about your thoughts, but Raw has been great the last month!

Hey Kev, wouldnt it make some sense that Vince could be a surprise member of team WWE?

RESPONSE FROM KE: He'd be one of the possibilities.

Is it bad when I can script out an entire episode of RAW nearly second for second every week at 9? Just way too predictable, and another reason why its a shame TNA struggled so bad on Mondays. It would have been nice to have that spontananity back on Monday nights.

Also it appears even the 50/50 mix of adults to children at WWE shows is gone, I'd guess its about 95-5 in favor of kids at this point. It seemed like the majority of the crowd had no clue who Bret Hart even was, aside from being the former GM of Raw.

Morrisons's flip move was Paul Burchill's old finisher during his pirate gimmick. It was a standing moonsault side slam.

That was Paul Burchill's old finishing move, the C-4, back when he had the pirate gimmick. It looks cool and absolutely ridiculous at the same time, kinda like Petey William's Canadian Destroyer.

Standing moonsault side slam...it looks very cool. The last guy I saw do that move was Paul Burchill back in his "pirate" gimmick.

There's no way The Miz is joining Team WWE this Sunday.

So who will the seventh member of Team WWE be? I am willing to bet that it will be....Bryan Danielson. Given his history with both The Miz and with Nexus why not? Anybody else would be anti-climatic.

A comment on The Miz. I am not jumping on his bandwagon. I don't think in his ring performance is better than it was a year or two ago. I'm also not that impressed with his mic skills. "I'm the Miz and I'm awesome," is something I would expect to hear on a bad 1980's Saturday morning cartoon. Putting the belt on The Miz would represent the WWE's David Arquette moment.

RESPONSE FROM KE: I totally agree that Danielson makes the most sense from a story line standpoint, but I still wouldn't bet on it being him.

I can't wait for Linda McMahon to end her political run! I know the WWE wants a PG rating, BUT, seeing Maryse in a one piece bathing suit was sheer torture ;-( So, Santino is now the Love interest of Tamina? What will this combo be called? Glamerella didn't last that long. How far will "Taminella" or "Tamberino" go?

Kev,

Any thoughts on who the surpise superstar might be if they go that route? Triple H perhaps? The Rock? And was it just me that in that last segment when it was 7 on 4 did you not want to hear "Are you Ready".

Give me an H, give me an H, give me an H....

Okay, here's how I see things going down: Miz cashes in Money in the Bank on the winner of the WWE Championship match at Summerslam to become champion. Then, in the main event, Bryan Danielson is revealed as the new 7th man of Team WWE. Danielson saves the day for the WWE, becomes the #1 contender, and defeats his old pro for the WWE Championship at Night of Champions. Then, Wade Barrett decides to cash in the PPV title opportunity he earned by winning NXT on Danielson, leading to a program between the two.

Of course, this is all contingent on Danielson showing up at Summerslam, which still seems like a pretty long shot, but who knows? I'm supposed to expect the unexpected when watching wrestling.

I keep hoping that the 7th member will turn out to be no other but Daniel Bryan. The pop and buzz would be HUGE. What do you think are the chances of this happening?

I ended up a couple rows from the ring on the side the cameras were on. They don't let people hold up signs in that section so they don't block the view on TV, and that's fine with me.

The two moves you mentioned by Bourne and Morrison were great. They got pretty good reactions by the crowd, whether or not that came across on TV.

The promo between Orton and Sheamus was very solid on both their parts. The teased punt was good, too. Whatever Sheamus' ability in the ring, I think he's made some big strides on the mic and he deserves credit for that, at least.

There was a pretty long gap between actual matches after the Melina/Fox one and all the promos, not to mention the Nexus run-in on Henry. They came and left right next to our area.

When the show went off the air, it left with Team WWE in the ring and Nexus up in the stands. What you didn't get to see on TV was Nexus make their way back to the ring to continue the brawl for a few more moments.

Then, Justin Gabriel became the sacrifice of the night as he was separated from Nexus and taken out by Team WWE. Jericho gave him a loud chop and pretended that his hand was sore from the impact, then he held Gabriel for Cena to punch. The crowd got into the "Spear! Spear!" chant before Edge set up for one and nailed Gabriel. Cena gave him an Attitude Adjustment and finally, after the crowd called for it as well, the Hitman locked on the Sharpshooter as the rest of Nexus cut and run. Big pops all around during the ending. That was a fun way to end things after going off the air and Team WWE stuck around a few more minutes to high-five the crowd along the barriers. Edge and Jericho played up their babyface sides during all this.

I'm curious to see who ends up being the seventh man for Team WWE. I doubt it will be Miz and I'm hoping (though not expecting) that WWE does the really interesting thing and brings back Daniel Bryan (or if you prefer, Bryan Danielson) under the guise that Cena's been in contact with him after the initial beatdown he "felt remorse over" when Nexus first formed.

I can see it now...

Justin Roberts: "And the final member of team WWE..."

(10-20 seconds silence)

IF YA SMELLLLL, WHAT THE ROCK, IS COOKIN!!!

Imagine that?

To give an answer to your question on the move John Morrison did, its called the C4 and it was originally the finishing move of the recently fired Paul Burchill. Seems like what doesn't work for one works for another!

Totally agree with you regarding those moves that Bourne and Morrison pulled out. I was sitting with chin on the floor. I always enjoy watching these two guys in matches as it is, but when they pull things like this out of the bag, you really wonder why they don't get so much more air time. I mean despite these moves, the miz bourne match was no more than 5 minutes, and the morrison match was no more than 3.

The Nexus angle is putting me to sleep at this point.

Eck- Paul Burchill has used the Morrison flipping rock bottom-like move back in his more limber days.

I suppose this will lead to a program between Marella and Vladimir Kozlov and The Usos.

Poor Usos

Kevin, the flip move John Morrison did was the "C4." Paul Burchill use to do it in the WWE when he had his pirate gimmick.

I've seen something similar to the Morrison flip move he did on Ryder. There's a wrestler in Japan for Pro Wrestling NOAH named Naomichi Marufuji who does a toprope version of it called the Shiranui Kai (there's clips of it on Youtube, especially one where he does it off the ring apron and onto the floor). I think Kazarian's Flux Capacitor's a similar move too.

so just to be clear... on RAW, 6 WWE guys (including a non-wrestler named Bret Hart) chased off 7 Nexux guys - no giant needed. So what's the point of the PPV match?

I have 10 dollars either HHH or shawn Micheals.

Raw was fine this week, but it feels like they were just kind of spinning their wheels with the Nexus storyline the last few weeks. This week left us in the same basic place we were four weeks ago (minus Khali, thank God). I still feel that the build to SummerFest would have been better spent making the Nexus members seem like credible individual threats then overplaying the "distension in the ranks of Team Raw" angle. Oh well.

I have nothing but respect for Bret Hart, but his inclusion as an active participant in this match rather then a manager is just terrible. We all know he can't take any contact, but last night was particularly bad. When Jericho went to break up the Sharpshooter on Edge, he couldn't even hit him, just stick his thumb in his eye. I guess it's good that they didn't even bother to tease a hot tag in the main event.

Agreed about both those moves by Bourne and Morrison. Bourne should add that hurricanerana to his rep immediately, and Morrison should replace the weak corkscrew moonsault with that standing flip slam thing. Maybe he can call it the Last Whiskey Bar.

The "innovative" move Morrison did was Paul Burchill's former finisher, the C4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djSSiF-cXMk

Gotta love Chris Jericho's cocky strut back into the ring after he realized NXT weren't going to punk him out during the match.

I imagine we will see the splinters in the WWE All Stars team return this Sunday, and a few of the guys will eliminate themselves giving NXT an easy win.

I'm slightly disappointed that the Sheamus/Orton title match hasn't been hyped as a Royal Rumble rematch - except without the Legacy, which more or less cost Orton his title matches in January and in February. If the November storylines come together as I want, then it would be a wise move (I think Randy Orton, the man who has been involved in factions for most of his career, should be the one to cause friction in NXT and successfully dissect them).

Any thoughts to who the "special" 7th member to the team might be? I'm not sure who it's going to be, and I definitely can't see the Miz joining the team, especially the way that the WWE has been pushing him.

On a side note, I heard a rumor that Shelton Benjamin would join Ring of Honor, any truth to that rumor?

RESPONSE FROM KE: Benjamin and Charlie Haas are reuniting as a tag team in ROH.

I guess you can really tell that the WWE is pg when the divas show are more clothed during a bikini match than they are in their normal attire.

At last! The brilliant John Morrison gets to put on a show. His brilliant new move ( a kind of back flip face buster ) was amazing. This followed another great move from Evan Bourne that was also very innovative. Can the powers that be please team John with Evan and let them challenge for the Tag Team titles?

Raw's ending was great. Even though Tamina wasn't in the divas summertime spectacular match, she ssure looked great in the outfit she had on.

As much as I am a fan of Bret Hart, it would have been better if Hbk was on team raw instead. Bret is 53 years old and is limited to what he can do in the ring. Shawn Michaels at 45 can still put on a 5 star match with whoever he works with.

"Speaking of cool, innovative moves, I don’t know what to call that flip move that John Morrison did to Zack Ryder during the tag match in which Morrison and R-Truth defeated Ryder and William Regal, but it was fantastic. …"

Paul Burchill did that move before and during his pirate gimmick.

Kevin, do you think it's at all possible that Bryan Danielson will be team WWE's seventh man?

It struck me as odd that a) Melina's finisher is named the Last Call- just as James Storm's superkick and b) Michael Cole made a gay joke about a ref.

One step forward, two steps back.

The surprise appearance should be Triple H as the 7th member only to turn on them and reveal himself as the Nexus mastermind sort of like when Stone Cold turned on Team WWF to join the Alliance during the Invasion angle.

I know he's undergone surgery but it being a 7 man tag match, he doesn't have to be in the ring very long. They could always follow up Summerslam with Triple H being a sort of stable manager to Nexus to keep him out of the ring until he recovers

Hey Kev did you that Tyler Black from ROH has signed with WWE NXT season 3 . Your thoughts .

RESPONSE FROM KE: Thoughts will be forthcoming.

Mysterio has done Bournes spot a number of times on PPV. Morrison's move was one of Paul Burchill''s previous finishers the C-4.

What's not to like about the divas tag? They were wearing one pieces! talk about bait and switch

AH said everything I was thinking. :)

Hey Kev, has anyone mentioned that the move John Morrison did used to be Paul Burchill's finisher?

Larry, imagine this. Step out of your Wayback Machine and join us in the present time. You and anyone else who thinks that The Rock is ever lacing up the boots again for another match need to give it up. The Rock, much like HBK, is not coming back.

The year is 2010. Dwayne Johnson is a bona fide Hollywood movie star. For the last 6 years, he has tried to put "The Rock" and the WWE in his rear view mirror as much as possible. He may show up to guest host an episode of "Raw", but that's only if he has a movie to promote and even then, that's as close as he'll ever get to performing in the ring again.

I really like the idea of Hart turning heel, with Jericho, Edge, and THD forming a stable, but that won't happen either.

Now, as for who will be the 7th member of Team WWE, it won't be The Miz. The fans are starting to cheer him and making him "the savior" of Team WWE would only add to that. I'm sure WWE wants to keep him as a heel for right now. It won't be HHH, either. Why bring him back after months away and have him join Cena and Hart when everyone knows he'll be coming straight for Sheamus. Danielson makes perfect sense, but when does WWE ever do something from a creative standpoint that makes perfect sense?

My guess...Since you already have 3 mega-stars in Cena, Edge, and Jericho, I'm thinking it'll be someone who could either use a rub by being with them or someone who could be the scapegoat should they lose. I'll go out on a limb and say Evan Bourne.

I think I was expecting someone to replace the Great Khali for awhile. He doesn't seem to make sense for the the team WWE equation. I was thinking maybe HHH comback, but I don't recall if he's healthy enough yet. Of course they could put Evan Bourne in the match for the sole purpose him hitting airboure on Justin Gabriel as a little payback. And I agree, I had to rewind the reverse huricarana Evan Bourne put on Miz and watch it again. That was Awesome. So was Morrison's flip move.

I don't like the idea of Bryan Danielson being the 7th man on team WWE, mainly cause I think that the Nexus has to win this match in order for this entire angle to keep moving forward. I'd hate to see Bryan come back only to lose - again!

I feel pretty certain that the 7th Team WWE member will be HHH and either Bret Hart or HHH will turn on the team. I would venture to bet HHH will turn on WWE since he will be freshly returning. That's typical pro wrestling booking.

Has anyone else noticed how much Michael Cole marks out for the Miz on RAW and particularly on NXT? I don't watch NXT very much but I happened to catch a little this week when Miz was facing Morrison. Cole was absolutely marking out for him on TV. I wonder what the purpose is behind this. Right now, its a little weird to slightly creepy to me. Not used to play-by-play announcers doing this unless there's an angle.

What is with the Diva's wearing one-piece's? You can see more watching a pageant nowadays than you can watching wrestling! Heck, you can see more when they are wearing their normal ring attire! I'm not a total fan of a PG-13 rating so I'm not saying go back to that but this is going a little overboard on the PG rating.

ugh. good lord, this sheamus guy is making me miss the days that i used to look forward to title matches.

i mean honestly! of the new crop of wrestlers why does vince always push the ones that have 0% charisma.

miz for world champ! because he's awesome.

HHH is certainly the odds-on favorite to be the 7th man on Team WWE. But I'm betting that the 7 on 7 match is the start of the long awaited John Cena heel turn.

It's been foreshadowed for weeks. First, prior to forming Team WWE, Cena talks about Nexus and says "If you can't beat 'em..." Then Jericho says Cena is as big a threat to the WWE as Nexus.

I figure Cena, HHH and Barret will be the last 3 men in the ring, and Cena will hit Trips with the Attitude Adjustment, giving Nexus the win and setting up another Trips/Cena program with the face/heel roles reversed.

Miz will be the 7th man then turn on Cena because Miz is part of the Nexus bigger picture, as I have been saying since MITB. It could not be any more obvious.

And to all you who think Daniel Bryanson will be part of this- you're idiots. No one cares about him besides you guys. I'm not saying the guy isn't talented or might not make it in the WWE someday, but there is no way the WWE is basing this MAJOR storyline around a realtive no body.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Well, they are in fact basing the major story line around seven nobodies.

After seeing the wonderful Gail Kim using a blow up pool ring as a weapon in a gimmick match i thought 'i really do hope the paychecks are big because she really is fast losing the best years of her career'.

Such a waste of a superb talent.

I will have to say, Alberto DelRio will be the 7th. he has a history with members of the NEXUS. And has jobbed to just about all of them. What better way to introduce him, as the likeable face, that will quickly turn!
Mark that call please!!
