Is John Cena turning heel tonight at SummerSlam?
There has been speculation leading up to tonight’s SummerSlam pay-per-view that John Cena will turn heel during the seven-on-seven main event between Cena’s Team WWE and The Nexus.
Cena has added fuel to the fire by tweeting the following during the past hour:
“CeNation. Staples center is somber, quiet. Calm before storm. I feel nervous, on edge. I want to thank everyone out there who has supported me over the years, as I feel this is one of the most important days in my career. In closing, I will say that if you do not watch summerslam tonight, u will be missing an epic day in wwe history.”
Cena, the face of the company for the past five years and a hero to women and children everywhere, turning heel would certainly be “an epic day in WWE history.” So do I think he’s really going to embrace his dark side?
No. I just think that Cena is aware of the speculation and he is using social media to try and sell some pay-per-views. What he said is vague enough that you can read into it whatever you want.
I could be wrong – and I think a heel Cena would give WWE a shot in the arm from a creative standpoint – but I really don’t see WWE turning a guy who is its top merchandise seller and has a squeaky clean public image due to his charity work and vocal support of the U.S. military.

Maybe it's not that Cena would go heel tonight. Maybe we'll see a frustrated Cena who takes out his anger on everyone for not being able to defeat The Nexus. So, maybe not really a "heel" Cena, but a Cena who just doesn't trust anyone anymore and has lost faith in the company he proudly supports.

if cena turns heel the wwe WILL CRASH LAND. theyll lose lots of merchadise sales and all the kids who look up to cena would be so disappointed. if wwe makes cena heel this would be a epic fail for wwe and tna would be the new face of professional wrestling

If I believed that Cena would turn heel tonight—if WWE had really worked to make me believe that, the way they made me believe Ric Flair would retire at WrestleMania 24—then I would pay for tonight's PPV.
But I don't believe that. As things stand, I agree with Jim Ross that tonight's program is a "three-match show." And I could care less about those three matches. For the first time in a few years, I will not be buying SummerSlam. And I'm kind of bummed about that...because I really look forward to it.

I agree with you Kev - I really don't see Cena turning heel...
BUT, with the new WWE logo coming I think there's an indication of change in WWE...and with Miz's push and huge charisma (with WWE using him as the new face of the company to advertise WWE - that's what happened in the UK) I can really see him cashing in tonight or on the 900th episode and becoming the new champion, and face of the company.
Along with Miz, Orton too is properly the most over he's ever been and I think has the potential to sell a lot of merchandise, as much as Cena, so therefore I can see Orton becoming the biggest face.
I know a lot of this is wishful thinking, but there is a maybe...WWE needs an edge and to be less vanilla.

I miss the old WWE(F), the WWE where anything could happen. The real superstars:
HBK / Austin / HHH / Rock / Hart / Foley / Taker
back when watching Raw really HAD A raw feel to it and it was must see stuff...
1997 - 2000 was without question the greatest time to be a WWE fan, in my opinion.
All of yesteryears superstars have been pretty much replaced or remolded to suit todays product and what a different product it is.
Watch youtube clips of the late 1990s Raw with DX and Austin and you should get a feel for how great this product once was.
What the hell has this got to do with the current face of the company possibly turning heel, nothing and everything....
Make him heel, its long over due, stop playing it so safe, this is where the company has fallen down so much. Look at how the '98 Michaels played the bad guy, or the '99 Rock, or the '00 Triple H and take notes. Inject some excitement back on to our screens.
Entertain and inspire us. I have already tuned out as I couldnt care less who wins what or how anymore, as WWE has failed to get me to invest any interest in todays 2D superstars.
The Miz shows some promise but its to little to late 2bh.
Anyways hopefully Summerslam will bring the fans something epic and exciting because god knows they have been starved of it for some time now.

"if wwe makes cena heel this would be a epic fail for wwe and tna would be the new face of professional wrestling."
Um, get real.

It,s hot and I agree that there might be chances of Cena turning heel tonight. It could prove suicidal but I think Orton has the profile needed to be the new face. A top face much like Stone Cold.
However, I do not see that happen or rather I will not really see that to happen.
I reapect Cena for being the most hardworking superstar in WWE. I will not say he is the best wrestler ever but I see improvements in him compared to his debut where he was mostly squashed much like The Miz. We must all agree that what he has done to this company is awesome and definitely, one of the best faces WWE ever had.
When I see my 6-year brother ask me: "Bro, why they beat Cena or he did not deserve that", I realise that Cena despite his lame jokes for us, he made a strong place in the kids' heart. For that, Respact Cena for his CeNAtion; a nation built up on kids' innocent and positive sides. That commendable and already EPIC!!!

Darren is dead right. This watered down stuff is what you get when you aim at 10 year olds. If Cena turns heel then it will be one of McMahon's biggest gaffes since his bodybuilding and X rated football.brainwaves. As it is the PG stuff is another McMahon mistake. Speaking of mistakes if WWE make The Miz their "face" I and about a million others will switch off - and I have watched WWF/WWE since before Sky TV.

Cena never taps out... that is what I hate about him. The goody good that is always too good for everyone else. The only Superstar that always wins and gets what he wants. But when he faces 7 on one like with the Nexus - he doesn't even try. Mr. Never Give Up. Never tap out. He always has to have the limelight. Something he doesn't share.

If the WWE go down this path with John then that will be the end for me I have watched wrestling since Wrestlemania didnt have a number and have seen some stupid things.Cena is a role model and a great person. He has often sprouted his beliefs in a stirring way Turning him heel would be wrong. If they have to turn someone turn Edge back but not John

Hey Kev
I stated weeks back that I think a Cena heel turn is in the cards however now Im starting to think maybe not. If not Cena I think it could be Bret Hart and this is where Bautista will return. This is a stretch but something major and I mean major is going to go down tonight.

I have been watching monday night raw for
probley the last 25 years. Always looked
forward to it until the last few months.Or i
should say until this bunch of hoodlims
who call themselvs the NEXIS came on board. I would think that a company as large as the WWE could put a stop to this crap. I am afread you have already lost many of your viewers. Me included.
thanks...Robert

I remember when Stone Cold turned heel and joined up with Vince. That was a huge heel turn, and something you never thought you would see. It worked with Austin's character and he was able to become an entertaining heel.
The problem with Cena turning heel is that the fans who like him are 12, and the rest just hate him because all he does is yell and scream and then goes through another cookie cutter match. I really hate Cena's character and I would really hate him turning heel because then booing him would make it seem like Cena is doing a good job at being a heel.
His character is really just like a over-grown 12 year old. His comebacks and humor are better suited for an elementary school playground than a wrestling ring. I really cringe at the idea of him being a heel because it would just be annoying in a bad way.

This has become the most predictable product on TV. WWE lately has made Full House look like LOST.
Posted by: mechanicalbull | August 15, 2010 11:03 PM
he didnt turn heel it was Daniel Bryan returning to help WWE over Nexus in the long run i would have liked Triple H to return for that 7th spot but in the end a rookie saves the day

Cena wont turn heel because there is anyone who, as a face, is good enough to oppose him.
I mean are people really considering the freak Miz? Child please. His act has been worn out since he started and acting lessons wont change that, if hes the face of the company then they just lost one fan. Best thing they could do with MIz now is have him join Nexus.
I d like to see the WWE go back to more factions/groups. It worked with DX, Ministry and the Nation. Wcw did well with the nwo schtick. Its time for WWE to change it up a bit, things are getting stale.

You people forget that kids aren't the ones who pay for the merchandises. It's the adults who do, and if Cena were to go heel, the sales would skyrocket as this is what WWE fans ages 18 and over have been waiting for.
