Money in the Bank preview
Predictions for tonight’s WWE pay-per-view:
WWE champion Sheamus vs. John Cena in a steel cage match: The final scene on Raw this past Monday was of Sheamus and Cena fighting side by side against The Nexus. I don’t buy it, as I think Sheamus is secretly aligned with the heel faction. Although the cage is supposed to prevent outside interference, look for Wade Barrett and company to get involved and help Sheamus prevail.
World champion Rey Mysterio vs. Jack Swagger: WWE has done a very good job of getting Swagger over as a vicious heel in recent weeks, as he has injured both Mysterio and The Big Show with his ankle lock. It appears to me that the scene has been set for Mysterio, already the ultimate underdog because of his size disadvantage, to once again overcome the odds and retain the title despite his bad ankle. However, after the match is over ... (see my prediction for the Smackdown MITB match below).
Raw MITB ladder match (Evan Bourne, Ted DiBiase Jr., Edge, Mark Henry, Chris Jericho, The Miz, John Morrison and Randy Orton): I don’t give Bourne, DiBiase, Henry and Morrison any chance of winning, so that leaves the big stars (Edge, Orton and Jericho) and The Miz. Edge winning MITB has a “been there, done that” feel, and Jericho’s long-term future in WWE seems uncertain, so scratch off those two. WWE is trying to get Orton over as a huge babyface, and back-dooring his way into a world title by cashing in his MITB contract is more of a heel thing, so I don’t think he will win either. Therefore, the winner will be … The Miz!
Smackdown MITB ladder match (The Big Show, Christian, Matt Hardy, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes and Dolph Ziggler): I’d like to see McIntyre win this match and I think there’s a decent chance that he will. However, my gut feeling is that it’s not going to happen. I hope I’m wrong about this, but I think Kane is going to win the match and then cash in his contract at the conclusion of the Mysterio-Swagger match and defeat a weakened Mysterio for the title. Then it will be revealed that Kane was the one who attacked The Undertaker. Again, I hope I’m wrong.
WWE unified tag team champions The Hart Dynasty vs. The Usos: Jimmy and Jey Uso haven’t really gotten over, so I expect Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith to make a successful title defense.
WWE Divas champion Alicia Fox vs. Eve Torres: Look for Torres to regain the title she lost at last month’s Fatal Fourway pay-per-view.
WWE women’s champion Layla vs. Kelly Kelly: Layla will retain the championship with an assist from her Lay-Cool partner Michelle McCool. The wild card is Rosa Mendes. If she (and her trusty jump rope) make an appearance, whom will her presence benefit?

I agree with you on everything except the smackdown money in the bank. I think Drew Mcintyre will win because WWE seems like they are pushing him

I see Rosa's potential interference helping Layla: she's still trying to get into Laycool, and helping Layla retain the title would help her do just that.

I agree with Miz winning, and would like to see him cash in MITB tonight after Nexus gets involved.

I agree with you with the Miz winning, and him cashing in MITB after Nexus beat down Cena.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think Big Show may win MITB as the next step in his ongoing babyface singles push.

All I know is, if Mysterio beats Swagger with only one leg, it'll be the biggest joke of recent memory. Forget Cena being Superman, Mysterio trumps him all the time. Swagger should win, and win quick. Anything else is ridiculous.

I agree with the Miz, it's painfully obvious that he's the winner based on who WON'T win. As for SD's MITB match, I say Punk isn't injured, takes out someone (Show?) and is a 3-time MITB winner. That, or Drew.

I don't think WWE will put the title on Kane. Even if they reveal that Kane was the Undertaker's attacker (and I agree, that would suck), I don't see how the title would affect that angle. There's no reason for Kane to hold it.
Having said that, I always think it's remarkably stupid when Rey Mysterio is wearing the supposed "heavyweight" title. I hope he loses it tonight.

Good picks. I think McIntyre or Christian take the SD MITB, and that for Raw it's either Orton or Edge. If Orton wins, he gets attacked by Edge at some point to drop the briefcase to him. The Kane title situation makes sense too!

I got to think McIntyre will win. Hopefully not though I'd rather see Christian or Hardy or Ziggler win. On RAW I'd like to see Bourne or Miz win and I do agree with you that Miz will win.

Maybe they could have Orton win the title then do the "honorable" thing and say he won't attack the champion, but cash it in for a legitimate match.
Though that seems more likely in the Smackdown MITB with someone like Christian or Kofi Kingston rather than Orton's character.

Sorry K.E. but I think you might be missing the boat on this one. The Mysterio/Swagger is the perfect opportunity for Rey to take a break and get that surgery he has been needing. Especially with the Kane storyline. I see Jack being the culprit and him and Kane warring for a few months. Th Cena/Sheamus match might just being a double attack by the Nexus. I don't see them aligning with anyone at this time. They are too over by themselves to bring someone else into it. The raw MITB match is gonna be a middle card Superstar I believe. Miz has a title so I don't see him winning. I agree with you on Eve, she is a better performer but not by much. I am not sure about the Layla/Kellykelly match I expect a swerve of some sort. I do think McIntyre will win the Smackdown match, he has been pushed really hard for so long to not be the winner. Those are my thought but I could be wrong. I love your blog though, it is nice to have a blog out there for die-hard wrestling fans. Thank you for what you do and keep up the good work.

I had the same picks except I correctly picked Alicia Fox to win her match and I picked Evan Bourne to win MITB. The time right now is 9:51 PM EST, and that match is going on right now, so I don't know yet if my pick is right or not.

Damn Kev. BOTH MITBs - go you

Wow Kevin! You called The Miz and NAILED the (lame) Mysterio beats Swagger and then loses to Kane angle. There are no words to describe my level of disappointment if your prediction of Kane being the Undertaker's attacker comes true...but it's looking that way.
Posted by: chad | July 18, 2010 10:20 PM
Kevin, so far so good...while the Cena-Shamus is going on..you've only missed on one match on the card...you sure they didn't make you the booker????? Can you fix TNA while you're at it?????
Posted by: Jack | July 18, 2010 10:49 PM
Right on everything but Eve, Kev.
And everyone's worst fears come true. You were right and it's Kane vs Undertaker, again.

you are on the booking comittee right? ive never seen a ppv results picked so closely. Nice job, so whats next week's lotto numbers?

Impressive picking Kev!
Posted by: Curtis | July 18, 2010 11:30 PM
Well you called everything except the Diva's title, I'm pretty sure that's the best success rate you've had on predictions. Nicely done.
Posted by: P.rat | July 18, 2010 11:36 PM
you were right on, with most of your picks, it was kind of a predictable PPV
Posted by: rick lynden | July 18, 2010 11:39 PM
WOW Kevin, very impressive, calling the MITB matches, and Kane's win against Rey Mysterio. Other than Alicia Fox retaining, you were right on every match though it still remains to be seen if the Nexus and Sheamus are working together. Glad to see Cena a little bit of payback on 3 of them. I'm betting the Raw GM is Batista. Who else hates Cena more?

Great picks! You nearly got it all right!

Kev you lucky {insert generic, non offensive intult here}.
Both MITB's right?
Unlucky though in not getting a perfect 7/7
Posted by: SteRDLK | July 19, 2010 12:11 AM
I guess since the majority of WWE's curent fanbase is too young to remember a Kane vs Undertaker feud the WWE can get away with it.
Posted by: Anon | July 19, 2010 7:00 AM
Well done but then again the WWE is so pathetic and predictable these days. You are indeed the Octopus of Pro Wrestling picks.
Posted by: Patrick Johnson | July 19, 2010 8:29 AM
Congrats, Kevin. That's an impressive average! And I was wrong about Kane. Good calls.
