Report: TNA Impact moving back to Thursdays
The Monday Night War Part II is over.
TNA has made the call to move Impact from Mondays back to Thursdays, according to a report by prowrestling.net.
There will now be a three-hour block of TNA programming on Thursdays, with the new TNA Reaction show airing at 8 p.m., followed by Impact at 9 p.m.
Since Impact made the move to Mondays on March 8, the ratings for the show have plummeted, bottoming out with a 0.5 rating last week.
I don’t fault TNA for making an attempt to go head-to-head with Raw. Since more people watch wrestling on Mondays than any other night, the thinking was that perhaps TNA could entice fans to flip back and forth between Raw and Impact, thus growing its audience. The ratings showed that the experiment wasn’t working, so cutting its losses and putting Impact back in its old time slot is the smart thing to do.

Maybe now everyone in TNA will keep their friggin' mouths SHUT!!!
Next step....SpikeTV just cancels the whole thing.........................................

It's the right call. TNA needs to focus on improving its product, instead of just assuming that providing an alternative on monday nights will mean that people are going to flip the channel.

Quitters!!!!

I'm wondering if the move to Mondays actually would have worked better without Hogan and Co. Wrestling fans may actually have flipped back and forth more often if they thought they were watching a promotion that was taking itself seriously (or at least as seriously as a wrestling promotion can be). Instead, TNA created a product that has become the butt of way too many jokes.
Posted by: Virginia Pete | May 3, 2010 8:19 PM
Good riddance. TNA should have started simple by trying to become an alternative to Smackdown. That MIGHT have worked.

"Instead, TNA created a product that has become the butt of way too many jokes."
I can agree with that statement. Ever since Hogan has taken over, I turn away when Abyss comes on now because he just seems like a joke now. He's just turned into Dave Sullivan, Jr., especially with the ring and wearing red and yellow.

I don't think the low ratings are a reflection of Tnas product. Say what you want about Hogan but Tna is better now that it ever has been. I think its all a reflection on wrestling in general. WWE is unwatchable at this point. A year from now WWE will be doing 2.0-2.5. Any body that says WWE is better than TNA is a mark.

Are we sure that this is a TNA move and not a Scify channel move? Seems to me that TNA should not have the power to jump wherever it wants on the schedule.
Posted by: Geo | May 3, 2010 8:45 PM
This is definitely the right call.
You probably heard by now, but ProWrestling.com is reporting that BTLS has "... blamed journalist Kevin Eck of the Baltimore Sun for being fired. " So where do I send the gift basket?

I think TNA should have stayed on Monday nights I mean it's only been a month. Personally I think Hulk has been great, I think they should have picked a better champion from the start of their Monday night experiment, like Kurt Angle, or Sting, or even kept AJ as champ, but as a face. While AJ is great he is no serious heel. I think the fans need a champion they can idolize, or associate with. While that sounds corny, I know look at how the WWE has made most of their money off of Champs like Hulk, HBK, The Rock, Brett, and my favorite Stone Cold. AJ just doesn't hold up to that list.
Posted by: Jason | May 3, 2010 9:20 PM
congratulations kev! its all over the web that BTLS was blasting everyone on his stupid radio show and even blamed you for him getting fired..too funny..this just made you a total babyface to the entire internet wrestling community
Posted by: craig | May 3, 2010 9:29 PM
I'VE ALWAYS CONSIDERED TNA TO BE A SHOW FOR THOSE WITH A.D.D
WITH THE ADDITION OF HOGAN AND CO., IT'S BECAME WORSE TO EVEN PEEP AT. I'M SORRY, BUT IT'S JUST NOT FOR "ME"
Posted by: SOUTHERN MISS ELITE | May 3, 2010 9:30 PM
So this Chubba is sayin' that you're the one who caused him to lose his job...are you going to cut a promo to counter him and start an internet feud?
Oh wait, then people will think Vince Russo sold you out in order to bring out another cheesy angle, thus losing web traffic. My bad.

Prowrestling.com wrote:
"He ended the broadcast by saying he is going to war against TNA, and also somehow blamed journalist Kevin Eck of the Baltimore Sun for being fired."
ROFLMAO. I can't breathe anymore.
Of course, it's all your fault. Kevin, you bad bad man.

How can TNA put a spin on this? I've got it: "We had built such a strong tradition on Thursday nights that we could no longer deny our loyal fans Impact on the day of the week on which we had given them so many great memories. The TNA Nation just doesn't associate wrestling with Monday. We brought the product back home."
Posted by: Christopher | May 3, 2010 10:29 PM
Anyone who says TNA is better is an IWC mark. If RAW's doing 2.5 in a year, then that must mean TNA's been sold to Vince.

Sadly, the hype was bigger when TNA had the "Hogan debut" Monday night show than TNA actually making the..ahem...permanent switch to Mondays. After getting there, with a profound lack of hype, there has been more nonsense than good memorable moments for the wrestling fans. I want the memory of Ric Flair shirtless to go away..... forever. That was painful. I want the memory of The Nasty Boys to be associated with my childhood, rather than be actively wrestling, on Monday nights in 2010!! The identity of the company must change, and hopefully TNA is going back to the drawing board by opting to return to Thursday night television. I am beginning to lose any and all optimism that they will "ever" be a viable alternative to other professional wrestling programming.

It's the right move. Tna has only slid backwards since the wcw goons took over. It's a real shame. They've misused talent in guys like flair, and really blew it with the potential of their tag,x, and knockout divisions. Their booking has been a joke, and the storylune/feuds are non sensible. Man. I wanted so much for tna, but they really blew it. I hope they can tighten up on Thursdays and maybe go back to the drawing board.
On another note, damn, Kevin Eck...you have a nemesis now. Btls...so lame. You oughtta go full blown heel Eck on him.

Wrestling fans across the world THANK YOU for getting rid of Chubba. Seriously, you are a hero in the IWC! (that heel turn didn't last very long)

TNA put the cart before the horse. They moved to Monday nights without establishing a product that could viably compete with the WWE. Hogan bringing change to TNA worked about as well as Obama bringing change outside The Impact Zone. The preceding was not a political statement.
It also didn't help that most weeks that Spike TV rebroadcast Impact on Thursdays. I know I've said it before but why would I watch TNA on Monday if I could still watch it on Thursday.
Posted by: Aaron Goldstein | May 4, 2010 1:22 AM
Well, that's not surprising given that the replay on Thursday last week actually scored a better rating than the original broadcast on Monday.
Posted by: Din | May 4, 2010 2:48 AM
The trouble with blaming the ratings on the time slot is that TNA made a whole bunch of changes simultaneously, so it's difficult to know which change effected ratings how. For my money, I think if TNA were booked differently, their ratings would be higher regardless of what's opposite them; and moving to Thursdays doesn't solve that.

Bubba called Dixie a "mark a**" before commenting on a column written by Kevin Eck of The Baltimore Sun that discussed the Kong/Bubba telephone call on the Cowhead Show. Bubba wondered why Kong was now being portrayed as the victim in this entire situation. Bubba said that if he read the article and did not hear the radio interview, he would probably have fired himself as well. Bubba commented that Eck wrote "During the verbal exchange, BTLS called her a word that cannot appear on a family Web site seven times and also made remarks that had racial overtones" in his column. Bubba and his staff mentioned that they would have assumed that Bubba called Kong "the ‘n' word" those seven times based on that working.
Bubba also commented on Eck's bias against him and in favor of Dixie Carter because he started off his column saying "Before I get into this, let me first say that I would like nothing better than to never have to type the words "Bubba The Love Sponge" ever again. One, because I hate giving him or any shock jock publicity when they say outrageous and venomous things because that is exactly what they want; and two, because he is a crony who only has a job in pro wrestling because of who he has latched himself onto" and then wrote "I like TNA president Dixie Carter, and the consensus among everyone I know who knows her is that she is a classy person with a good heart" about Dixie.
Bubba said that he believed that Eck's column was the reason why he was fired from TNA. Bubba then played the confrontation on the Cowhead Show between him and Awesome Kong.
HAHAHAHA @ the last para !!
YOUR MY HERO !!

Maybe the real reason the shows ratings have plummeted is because they have no talent.
Just a bunch of old washed up has beens that think that they're still entertaining everyone with the same old story line.
Rick Flair, please give it up. You're just embarrassing yourself!

Step 1
90 year olds Don't need to wrestle.
Step 2
Hulk and Eric need to go.
Step 3
Hire Jim Ross.
Step 4
Get divas not low class hookers.

Will it be a live on Thursday or a recorded one just like earlier. I think they should go live on Thursdays first.

I don't think, being a mark is such a bad thing. I enjoyed wrestling much much more, when I was a wrestling mark.
Posted by: Kunal | May 4, 2010 9:14 AM
I guess they really did need a "shock jock" like me. No one loves to watch TNA without good old worthless Chubba.
Posted by: Chubba The Love Butt | May 4, 2010 9:47 AM
By resonable deduction one can conclude that Dixie realised that without the wrestling icon Chubba, TNA had no shot at competing with WWE on Mondays. Chubs had pulled TNA out of the bingo halls and into trillions of homes worldwide. We are truely entering wrestling's dark age now without the Chubster. God have mercy on wrestling fans' souls.

Will it be a live show or taped?
RESPONSE FROM KE: I don't know that it was made clear.
Posted by: Patrick Johnson | May 4, 2010 10:36 AM
Good move.
It was becoming a chore trying to keep up with two wrestling shows on at the same time so I am happy.
Now TNA got some new exposure and can focus on creating their own niche rather than taking on WWE, which is a futile endeavor anyway.
BTW, last nights impact was a mess IMHO.
TNA should attempt to project an image of control and vision at this point rather than one of mayhem and chaos.

Raw= King Kong Bundy
Impact = "Special Delivery" Jones

Did TNA make the call to move back to Thursdays, or did Spike? Usually, it's the network that calls the shots on scheduling, not the program producer.
RESPONSE FROM KE: TNA officials reportedly told the crew that TNA was making the call, not Spike.
Posted by: jvwalt | May 4, 2010 11:25 AM
They dont get that the reason they got poor ratings was the terrible writing, used and uninteresting angles and 60 year old men wrestling Not that they were going against the WWE. The fans wanted to get behind the TNA product but even wrestling fans have some entertainment standards however low they may be,

Swing, and a miss!
For future reference, do not tell us fans that WWE sucks to get your promotion over! We can say it because we love WWE and we've earned the right to complain about their product. Having another wrestling promotion tell us what we watch sucks is offensive. Think of it in terms of the state you live in. You can say New Jersey sucks if you live there, but if a New Yorker or someone from Pennsylvania says it, then you get defensive! Being a fan of WWE is like being a resident of New Jersey in that regard.
Case in point, WCW got over because Eric Bischoff found a way to make it acceptable to watch their programming as a loyal WWF fan. How? Half of the characters were saying "WCW sucks!" As a WWF fan, I tuned in because I could feel like Diesel & Razor were against WCW so watching them in support of their cause didn't feel like it was betraying the WWF.
At this point, we WWE fans can just sit back and say, "WWE may suck, but it's helluva lot better than that crap you have, TNA!"
Posted by: Mr. Sarcasm | May 4, 2010 12:08 PM
I think TNA could have made more of an "impact" on Mondays had they planned it out better. I don't understand how Vince Russo is still there - he didn't do anything with WCW but make it unwatchable, and he hasn't done a whole lot better with TNA. A new booker/writer should have been firmly established before the move.
Also, if you look back at WCW Nitro, it first went head-to-head against Raw in early September, I believe. It didn't have to deal with any WrestleMania hype, and it didn't start out with a whole lot of surprises (with the exception of Lex Lugar). TNA tried to cram too much in, too soon.
One of the ways WCW slowly began to overtake the WWE was by broadcasting a live show every week. TNA can't expect to go head to head every Monday by presenting a taped show (every other week). The online presence is so much better now than what it was in the mid-90's.
As others said, by replaying the broadcast on Thursdays, it gave most fans an option of watching Raw on Monday and TNA on Thursday.
I hope TNA continues to grow. Any fan of wrestling knows that more competition is actually a benefit to the industry.

Well that didn't last long. Fair play to them for giving it a go though, I'm sure it'll do better on Thursdays anyway.
Posted by: Paul | May 4, 2010 12:43 PM
I for one saw some of TNA and RAW this past monday. From I what I saw, TNA did horrible versus raw. The Ted Dibase Jr. match was ok (I liked his fathers portral better) and Wade B guy did good vs. Cena. The GAYOZONE crap with Orlando J. was the most HORRIFIC wrestling segment I have ever seen. Rob Terry is big but he has no Mic skills. I mean the Hogan, Sting JJ crap is old and Flair looks loke somebodies Grandfather in the ring! TNA moving back to Thursday night proves to the wrestling world that they failed or loss the Monday night Wars circa WCW! I hope TNA gets rid of theses old guys and no talent , gay wrestlers that is bringing the company down!!!! Oh yea Bring back Awesome Kong!!!

Does this mean the six-sided ring will return?
Posted by: Roger | May 4, 2010 5:32 PM
As bad as WWE has gotten, the reason why TNA will never be able to compete as long as Vince Russo is booking was very evident last night. The shows basically ended the same, TNA went with the Hogan-Sting confrontation (at this point if anyone even remembered Sting grabbing Dixie by the throat I'd be surprised) and the Edge-Orton confrontation on Raw.
TNA's segment with Hogan & Sting went down something like this:
Hogan: Brother why'd you do it?
Sting: You were in WWF & WCW, and you were protected.
Hogan: So this is you & me?
Sting: Your move.
Jarrett rushes the ring, yadda yadda, whatever.
The difference between the two segments, which were like I said, essentially the same, was that Edge & Orton's confrontation had way more heat, despite only Edge talking. They also clearly made a point WHY Edge did what he did.
Vince Russo likes to book shows & write promos that try to hint that he & TNA know exactly what is going on & what everything means and we as fans are just dumb if we don't get it. Remember after Samoa Joe joined MEM? Nash delivered a promo that said just that. So it isn't that the show is bad and the booking is awful, its that WE'RE too dumb to "get it". Its like the wrestling equivalent to an episode of LOST, "It doesn't HAVE TO MAKE SENSE! Just watch it dammit!"
As goofy as Raw is, and as much as it pains us to see talented wrestlers get buried because Vince doesn't like them, what they do makes sense way more often than TNA. Who wasn't expecting Eric Young to join Hall & Nash? Who wouldn't have been surprised to see Ric Flair inexplicably join Hogan? Just do it and don't even worry about explaining it or it making any sense, that should be their motto instead of "Cross The Line".
Also they're clearly addicted to the "wild brawl" segments. These are a terrible idea because these guys are trained to have physical matches where they can sell moves, they are not trained stage fighters. These brawls always look fake, and sloppy.

I understand that Spike TV stated in a recent interview today that it blamed Kevin Eck and his blog for the move back to Thursday nights based on his editorial reviews of the Monday night shows.
Posted by: Mr. Sarcasm | May 4, 2010 6:59 PM
Kevin, Just read that Impact will still be taped on Monday and Tuesday then aired on Thursday. Before the announcement there was speculation the Impact would not be aired during Memorial Day week because Spike was showing a marathon of some show can't remember the name though. Now that they have moved Impact will air on the Thursday after Memorial Day.

Kevin, as a reader of your blog since it's begining, my confidence in you has been shattered since you are single handedly responsible for BTLS being fired AND the move back to thursdays for TNA.... apparenetly!!!...
Just to keep the momentum going, I'll go on record and accuse you of the JFK Assasination.
Posted by: rob | May 5, 2010 9:10 PM
Dave, it wouldn't surprise me if Spike TV aired commercials for its Memorial Day marathon of "some show, we can't remember its name though." The humorous aspect of that alone may attract more viewers than TNA's humorous attempts at competition the past 2 months.
Rob, I understand that the Dallas Mavericks are now blaming their loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Kevin Eck for his involvement in the JFK assassination. Pass it on!

Another step in the right direction for TNA would be to hire someone who can produce REAL MUSIC. Theme music has always been part of the appeal of pro wrestling for me, but the theme songs for TNA's athletes are HORRIBLE. A lot of them are just rip-offs of other songs. I'm almost surprised they haven't thought of this, yet. Keyword: ALMOST.

I would like to say that TNA are ROOKIES when it comes to prime time television. RAW has been there for ages.
If I were TNA, I would have more Knockout matches. The Knockouts used to be an important part of the show before Hogan arrived. And plus, I love Angelina Love. She's so hot, but she needs more competition.
Speaking of KNOCKOUTS, Mickie James would be a GREAT addition to the women's division. I think she and Angelina would have an awesome match. What a show! I will watch that without blinking. OH BABY! That will be awesome.
That... and less commercials.
P.S.,
I NEED MICKIE JAMES TO COME TO TNA! WHAT A *ELL OF A SHOW!!

TNA need to hire Mickie james as an lover of her as an fan im tempted to realized that she used to be in TNA as an tomboy and as she went around TNA fighting boys i believe her fine self can also be able to whip Daffenys A**! to tile from that toolbox daffeny used as an object to lose agianst Tara A.K.A Victoria and changes her idenity all the time and before she left Mickie james wasnt able to finish what Victoria started from the day she had an title match with Trish stratus and almost hurted her Ashley came to help and lost so the DEBUET of Micki james came and it was on with Victoria so i think TNA should bring Mickie james and have her for frist time fight Angelina love and the next week fight Victoria and Daffeny harcore match because i wanna see Mickie long kissed goodnight Victoria and hit that B****** face in and DDT daffeny hairy a** moley self back th the dr. steveis office back to tha damn hell she came from thakyou and if your reading this and your an fan of NICKI MINAJ go to NICKIMINAJFANS.COM OR FOLLOW US AT TWITTER .COM @NICKIMINAJ FANS.COM THANKYOU BRING MICKIE BACK HULK PLEASE AND THANKYOU ONCE AGAIN
