Carlito’s father reveals what his son’s Wellness Policy violation was for
This story has been out there for a couple days, but in case anyone missed it, former Puerto Rican wrestling star Carlos Colon said in a newspaper interview that his son Carlito’s Wellness Policy violation and subsequent release from WWE was for painkillers.
Colon, speaking to the Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora, also said that Carlito began taking the medication for back pain.
WWE’s policy regarding Wellness Policy failures is to not make the specifics of the violation public.
Carlito’s violation was his first, which carries a 30-day suspension, but he was fired when he refused to attend a rehabilitation facility.

He obviously didn't care about his job any more, so it's not surprising that he refused to go to rehabilitation. This was basically his way out.
Hopefully, he does get the help, though. Would hate to see his name showing up on that dreaded list that us wrestling fans have to live with.

What would have happened had he gone into rehab as ordered? The same grinding schedule would have been waiting for him at its conclusion. WWE should cut down on the house shows. True, that would mean less revenue, but it would possibly mean fewer stories like this one, as well.

From what I've "heard", WWE foots the rehab bill for all of His former performers, whereas current performers must pay half. I'd bet that WWE chooses the facility for current performers, which could likely be a top-of-the-line treatment center and still expensive at half price. Perhaps Carly took this into account and knew he could go to rehab for free while not under contract, knowing that the door is potentially open for a return to WWE upon completion.
I think it's more likely that he was in denial until his father hopefully talked some sense into him.

If its true then that is strange. Most have been some very strong 'pain killers'. Oh well, Carlito is a guy with all the talent and none of the drive.

I use to be a fan of Carlito's during his early years in wwe. I really wanted him to quit the wwe a couple of years back but Vince McMahon talked him into staying.
Guys like Carlito, Matt Hardy, John Morrison, Christian and Kofi Kingston will never have the world title push they deserve yet guys like Sheamus wins the title in less than a year.
If only tna would become big enough to be a legitimate competition than that would force wwe to produce new stars like when wcw forced them to during the monday night wars era.

I guess he will always have a job in WWC. It is a shame we won't be able to see Abdullah the Butcher carve him up on PPV.
Good luck Carlito.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if they don't want their wrestlers taking painkillers, they shouldn't subject them to the kind of schedule that causes them to be in constant pain.

Prescribed medication is fine with the WWE but it is when it is over used or not prescribed that it breaches the WWE well-being policy.
A bigger issue is when Carlito's father said Carlito's pill popping was ok because everyone else takes them too..

What can you do. The schedule for these superstars is very demanding I think it is absolutely rigorous. They are without a doubt the best athletes in the world. They are practically driven into medication and abuse of alchohol and drugs. Its such a money making business now that certain guys will never get the push they deserve. I agree with Frank...Sheamus winning the belt that fast was very hard to accept. Hey Kevin do you think that his relationship with Hunter is the reason why he has risen that fast?....but I think he will be a huge player in the future of the WWE.
