A pro wrestler on The Bachelorette?
I have been alerted to the fact that a supposed pro wrestler named Justin "Rated R" Rego is one of the participants on the ABC reality show “The Bachelorette,” which had its season premiere Monday night. One of my co-workers – Sarah Kickler Kelber, who does the Reality Check blog on this site – asked me today if I knew anything about him, so I did a little checking.
Rego, from Toronto, Ontario, apparently is referred to on the show as an “entertainment wrestler.” I’ve never heard that term before, nor have I ever heard of Rego.I did a quick Google search and couldn't find anything about him wrestling for any promotion.
I’m blogging about this for two reasons: One is to ask my Canadian peeps if they know anything about this guy as far as him being a wrestler; and the other is make a shameless attempt at increasing my traffic by putting “The Bachelorette” in a headline.
By the way, I wonder how long it will be before TNA signs this guy to a contract (can anyone say Jenna Morasca?)

Comments
Based on his nickname, he is extremely original.
But if you keep watching ABC, then you'll see that the "Rated R" moniker isn't the only gimmick infringement he has with Adam Copeland.
I'll spare your casual traffic the spoilers.

That's funny because I actually saw the show and they actually referred to him as a Professional Wrestler in the first part but then once he discussed his profession with the other guys (who made fun of him) in the house the producers decided for some reason to change it to Entertainment Wrestler. Go figure. I think he would rather be referred to as a pro wrestler.

Even with all TNA's missteps, I can't imagine they're going to cut X-number of talent (supposedly soon) and then turn around and hire somebody who brings him absolutely no chance whatsoever of any crossover audience.
RESPONSE FROM KE: Yeah, I was pretty much joking about that (but with TNA, you never know).

Surely you're not implying that something on a Reality Show isn't actually Real???!!! ;-)
Proof that wrestling fans are smarter than reality TV fans: we know our shows are fake :-)

Sounds more like a WWE prospect to me.

He is not only using Edge's nickname but consider that Edge's buddy Christian's real name: William Jason Reso is not that different from Jason Rego.

I don't know any Jason Rego, but I am familiar with a Canadian wrestler named William Jason Reso.
You've probably heard of him, too. Goes by the name Christian in WWE. Former tag team partner of Edge, The Rated R Superstar.
Hmmmmm.

Seems like he's trying to play off the fame of Edge, and,Christian. The whole "Rated R" thing, and Christian's real name is Jason Reso.
What do you think Kevin?

Better question, I wonder how long until WWE gets mad about his usage of "Rated R". Didn't they sue the rapper The Game for using that name?

I'm from Toronto and I've never heard of the guy.

There were two pro wrestlers on the last season of VH1's Tool Academy: Chasyn Rance and Jacob "JT EXTREME" Tapia. Hearing Rance speaking casually about his escapades with various ring rats on a "mainstream" series was pretty entertaining.

Is he some kind of Edge and Christian impersonator?
Just with his name being Jason Rego (Christian's is Jason Reso) and the "Rated R" bit.

Canadian Peep reporting in:
I got nuthin'.
Who is this guy? If he's a wrestler from Toronto, nobody around here has heard of the guy. Anything I found is only linking him to the show, not to any local promotions.

I did a little research while at work...I was bored, his name is Justin "rate r" Rego...here is a wikipedia page that mentions him on a comedy show in canada, but no mention of wrestling
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keys_to_the_VIP
but if you google him you may find some stuff about him wrestling
God i'm bored at work.

Is his name Jason or Justin?
RESPONSE FROM KE: It's actually Justin (I have corrected it on the blog entry). I've never heard of Justin Rego either.-

His name is Justin not Jason...

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT HIS NAME IS!
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

yep. it's fake..but did he make it up or did the show?

So, I'm ready to conclude that "The Bachelor" wasn't quite the attention-getter Justin Rego was hoping it'd be. At least, not with wrestling fans (who knows what other non-wrestling shows he's been on since this time).
I guestion the legitimacy of his job title of "professional wrestler" in the first place. No one could pinpoint a single wrestling match he had had. Maybe he just trained to be a wrestler before getting the call to appear on the show, and ABC producers thought it sounded better than "unemployed."
