Ratings news not good for Raw, TNA Impact

It is being reported that Monday night’s three-hour episode of Raw, which featured the draft, did a disappointing 3.1 rating, the same number it did last week. Meanwhile, TNA Impact plummeted to a 0.5, down from last week’s 1.0.

A 3.1 for a show that had the draft and took place the night after a pay-per-view has to be deflating for WWE. The draft episode of Raw last year did a 3.7.

Impact, which did not have the benefit of going unopposed in the 8 o’clock hour this week since Raw started an hour earlier, did its worst rating since debuting on Spike TV in October 2005, including when it had an 11 p.m. time slot (first on Saturdays before moving to Thursdays).

The number is especially disappointing since it comes on the heels of last week’s hot show that was built around Rob Van Dam winning the TNA world title.

Maybe people realize the draft is meaningless since people switch brands throughout the year, sometimes seemingly, by their own choice. Plus, as you have said before, the premise is illogical. Why would Punk really want to cheat to win so he could bring Big Show over to Smackdown?

I don't see how TNA can recover from this. Seriously, they need to move back to Thursday and pray Vince doesn't convince SciFi (SyFy.... whatever...) to run anything directly against them.

That's too bad, since I thought both shows were better than usual.

KEVIN, the rating for raw is fine.

the fact is that the second hour and third hours of raw got 3.3 and 3.4 ratings and they were the HIGHEST RATED HOURS ON CABLE LAST NIGHT which pleases wwe and usa especially since wwe wnet up against the nbs playoffs.

usa wants raw to be three hours each week so they can bury tna and run them off mondays.

a.5 is pathetic and dixie carter is an idiot for thinking that she will ever challenge wwe even if she has HAS BEEN HOGAN, FOSSIL FLAIR AND THE BITCHOFF ON HER SIDE.

Did anyone actually participate in the "TNA Rankings" vote? It takes you to some cheap looking poll hosted on another site, like the kind some blogger would set up for free. That makes the product look cheap.

Kev I heard Vince Russo is very close to having his role "changed". Have you heard anything about his reign of terror coming to an end yet?

RESPONSE FROM KE: I have heard that Russo wants to take on a different role, but I'm skeptical. What would he do? Plus, I've heard in for years talk about the stress of writing TV and how he was burnt out, blah, blah, blah, and he never left.

i think the draft needs a big change, they should make it more the way it was first, with each show actually picking who they want(champs would be untouchable). have it be an hour special that starts before raw instead of having it drag throughout the show. they could do it more like the nfl draft, hype it up with specualtion, have mock drafts on wwe.com, make it more of an event.

Just out of curiosity, what were the ratings for WCW in it's dying days just before it was axed?

RESPONSE FROM KE: From Jan. 1 to March 19, 2000 (the final three months of Nitro), the show as doing between a 2.0 and 2.6. Thunder, the "B" show was between 1.5 and 2.2. Source: 2002 Pro Wrestling Almanac and Book of Facts

You mean people DON'T want to see a 60+ year old Ric Flair headline a pro wrestling show opposite Dave Sullivan? Just what does TNA have to do to please today's insatiable wrestling fan?

Hey Kev,

Is the 3.1 for Raw for the whole three hours? I've heard that 3 hour Raws often do worse in the third hour, so how do the ratings break down if you just count Raw in its regular two hour slot?

RESPONSE FROM KE: The first hour always brings down the rating, and that was the case again. However, the ratings for this year's draft show were down significantly from last year. Here is the breakdown:

2009
1st hour: 3.2
2nd hour: 4.0
3rd hour: 4.0
Final rating 3.7

2010
1st hour: 2.6 (ouch)
2nd hour: 3.3
3rd hour: 3.3
Final rating: 3.1

If you go by the traditional 9-11 slot and throw out the first hour, the show did a 4.0 last year and 3.3 this year.

Impact didnt stand a chance Monday night especially with Raw being night after ppv. Personally I didnt watch Impact at all b/c i know i can see it Thur night.

Oh, was Impact on Monday also?

A 3.1 is certainly disappointing, but we are coming off the heels of Wrestlemania. Fan interest always goes into a state of flux around this time. Mania's over, all the big storylines have arced, Summerslam's still several months away, vets are taking time off, down cards are being built, new talent is being tested for the fall... essentially everything is in a state of flux, so fluctuating ratings are to be expected. Not saying the WWE should ignore it-- especially considering last year's draft did a 3.7-- but I'm just saying.

As far as Impact goes, TNA will be just fine on Monday nights. A lot of this stuff is new to them, so they're trying new things in search of a groove. And keep in mind, Hogan and crew have basically overhauled the entire company, so there's going to be a lot of ups and downs for a while. IMO, TNA's hits and misses are what make Impact fun to watch. They certainly keep me clicking over during diva matches and commercials.

I think RAW could benefit from having WWE title matches as the main event from time to time, and build to it as if it was PPV. This could help boost ratings especially if the matches are of quality or have some type of gimmick.

All TNA needs is goldberg

Or

stone cold

then lets see whos ratings are higher

If TNA did a 0.5 again a three hour RAW, what are they going to do when Monday Night Football starts up again and they still has to go against WWE? I think they need to go backt o Thursday Nights and build their show and ratings there before they are gone altogether.
