Notes on Raw and TNA Impact ratings, Ezekiel Jackson’s injury

Monday’s Raw did a 3.2 rating, the same number it did last week, while TNA Impact posted a 0.8, down from last week’s 0.9.

Despite the wide gap between the two shows, WWE probably has more reason to be disappointed this week than TNA.

When Raw did a 3.2 last week, I suggested that the number was down because the show was going head to head with the NCAA men’s basketball championship game on CBS. I’m surprised that Raw wasn’t back in the 3.4 to 3.5 range this week. I guess Americans don’t get Raw guest host David Hasselhoff the way some European countries do.

As for Impact, a slight decline from last week isn’t that bad considering that TNA did not do a good job of promoting the fact that the show is now starting an hour earlier.

TNA’s new ReAction show, which debuted an hour before Impact, did just a 0.3. There was virtually no promotion for that program either, so the low number isn’t a shock. ReAction – a recap show mixed with in-character backstage interviews – has been getting mixed reviews. I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet, but I was intrigued by the five-minute preview video that TNA released.

WWE confirmed on its Web site that Ezekiel Jackson suffered a torn quadriceps during a match against Kane Saturday in Glasgow, Scotland. Jackson underwent successful surgery Tuesday and could be out for up to six months.

You can polish a turd (TNA) but it's still a turd. RAW was taped just like Impact was. I had read the spoilers at 7 pm and watch RAW off and on and watched the O's game.

An 0.9 an hour earlier is not good. I am thinking the 3.2 was because many people read the spoilers from the taping in England. If I was the WWE and the spoilers hit the internet, I would be happy with the 3.2 If i was TNA and I was against a taped show and on an hour earlier and still got an 0.9, I wouldn't be happy.

Maybe RAW should go on an hour earlier as well. With WWE being PG, it's a wonder their ratings are not worse in the 10-11pm hour than they already are. I don't think an earlier start time would hurt their ratings.

I'm still wondering if the people that can watch the atrocity to wrestling that was the first 8-10 minutes of Raw actually watch Impact or just go off what websites say like mindless sheeple. Not this website, because Kevin's fair in comparison to some of these other coverage sites that bash everything about TNA. *cough* PWtorch* cough*

I feel for Ezekiel. He just lost his dad, then his sister days later, now this. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery!

Hi Kev,

I am probably one of the few who watches 99% Impact and 1% RAW lately. The new 8:00 p.m. time slot is one of the reasons why I am watching more TNA. I have to get up early the next day for work and it's not worth it to watch RAW when the show has been average at best lately..

That being said TNA Impact has been hot and cold. Impact was pretty good last week but this week was not at good... for a show supposed to be building the hype for Lockdown. For example, the Knockouts match was a joke. The team 3D match kicking "The bands" butt all over the place was all right until Bubba came out.

I am not sure what TNA sees in Bubba but he is aweful on the mic and does not bring anything of substance to make the show better. I was hoping Team 3D would have put Bubba through a table. I turn the channel when I see Bubba on TNA.

Jeff

Kev, would you agree that the January "test run" killed all of the buzz of TNA moving to Mondays when they didn't follow up for two months? They had a 1.5 and good reasons to have to watch the next Monday over Raw, instead they return when WWE is building Wrestlemania and after "Thunder" bored everyone to death, AGAIN.

Dixie or Spike, I wouldn't want these people running my lemonade stand. They would ask for summers off!

Impact on Mondays just isn't working. Unless they change something, I would not be surprised if they're back on Thursdays by the time SummerSlam rolls around.

Bringing in Hulk, Bischoff, Flair, RVD, Anderson, and Hardy and still having the same rating or worse has to be a HUGE morale killer at TNA. Bet it's just a matter of time before Spike dumps TNA and TNA dies off. It's too bad because we need an alternative to WWE and TNA doing well would help everyone-fans, wrestlers, etc.

It wouldve been interesting to see how a Live TNA would fare against a taped Raw.

Look back at the ratings history: RAW events held in the UK often suffer a .01 or .02 drop from the week before. Most analysts attribute it to the lack of the "live" vibe or that enough people read the results ahead of time and don't bother with the show. I doubt WWE is disappointed with their number. Their goal this week wasn't for American cable ratings. It was strengthening its worldwide presence.

I'm thinking that the 3.2 is a bad sign for RAW. Losing HBK to retirement is going to hurt the WWE. They like to think John Cena is the #1 guy but honestly HBK was the #1 guy & they only gave him 1 title run after his comeback in 2002?

It makes no sense when guys like Sheamus, Swagger, Jericho, JBL, CM Punk hold the titles. Yes those guys need the title to get over but if you are saying that then Cena or Batista never need to hold a title.

HBK was the showstopper & a big company guy. He should of had the title for another run or two even if he doesn't work house shows.

Spoiler for next week's TNA Impact. Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair in the first ever Healthcare in the Bank Wheelchair match.

How much longer does TNA want to do this? I'm thinking their home should be Thursdays - live - but they should also try to push for a show on a major Network - Spike tv is owned by Viacom which owns MTV ..why not a late night Saturday show 11pm to midnight - or push for a quarterly show on CBS - which will be showing a UFC event this weekend - so they see the potential of a late nite weekend action nite - As a wrestling fan ..I have TNA dvd's and WWE dvd's ...I'm more likely though to purchase a WWE pay-per-view - because I know they make a point for putting out on the Pay per views ...I think it goes back to wrestling 101 ..build the stories...have some heat..tease the upcoming attraction ..then pay off in the ppv...I'm getting my milk for free TNA! so I'm not apt to buy the cow..

Let's stop talking about just Monday nights. TNA is way behind in everything not just Impact vs RAW. Smackdown, Superstars, NXT and AM RAW all do close to or better than Impact. How about PPV's? WM 26 had 72,000 in attendance in a stadium that hosted the Super Bowl and was the 3rd highest grossing WM of all time. TNA won't do those numbers for the next 2 years on all their PPV's combined. Vancouver is bidding to host WM 28 while TNA has a hard time finding a place that not the Zone to host their next PPV. Let's talk about marketing and promotions, WWE talent can be seen on Regis and Kelly, Letterman, Leno, Kimmel or George Lopez. John Cena's the grand marshall at the Rose Bowl. The guest host on RAW has highlights on talk shows and Sportscenter. The list goes on and on where you might find WWE talent. TNA's is on the boardwalk in Universal studios hand out free tickets to tourist to fill the Impact Zone. How about merchandising? Walk into a Wal-Mart and there is a WWE display for kids clothes with Cena, Rey, Show and others on it. Also Target, K-Mart, Kohl's, Big Lots, Toys-R-Us has alot of WWE merchandise. The only place I could even find some TNA dvd's was at a Best Buy and they were in a clearance bin. TNA has a lot more to be worried about than just Monday.
