Jim Ross blogs about his WWE status

Clarifying his status with WWE on his blog, Jim Ross acknowledged that his talent contract expired today, but said he still is a WWE employee.

“I am still a WWE employee handling the same talent relations functions that I have executed for the company for the past few years, including since moving to Oklahoma,” he wrote. “I simply do not have a 'talent contract' as WWE has no plans to utilize me as an on air talent at this time.

“The WWE engaged in talks with me on Thursday of this week to discuss a new job description that would include what I am now doing along with other talent relations oriented matters. I am considering this offer and I trust that a decision will be made soon regarding this opportunity.

“I am not 'angry' at the turn of events as it relates to my WWE broadcasting career.
Disappointed, yes. Angry, no. Obviously, I would have liked to have had the ability to do a 'farewell broadcast' but that opportunity never occurred.”

Speaking as a wrestling fan, I hope that J.R. has not called his last match.

Why wouldn't they give him a farewell broadcast? That really makes no sense. Your buddy, Brian Fritz on Between the Ropes, said that both Undertaker and Shawn Michaels wanted Ross to call their Wrestlemania match but McMahon said no. For all his service all the crap he had to endure from McMahon, it's the least he could do for JR.

Vince could care less what us fans think and has been a complete and total p**** for the way he's treated JR since his latest battle with Bells Palsy.

Shawn Michaels vs Batista in a retirement match in which if Batista loses he leaves HBK is already retired - i read this at SummerSlam wikipedia for the WWE SummerSlam 2010 Main Event - just asking is it true! please reply!

JR is still the best color commentator in the business and has delivered some of the most memorable lines in WWE history why this is happening i don't understand but id love to see jr back at ringside.

my fav "......and the million dollar princess has turned into the dairy queen."
Kurt and the milk truck

I for one am glad that his broadcasting days are over. Yes, I enjoyed him with King, but with the younger guys, he just didn't fit in.

I would absolutely love to hear JR call an MMA match. I read that he loves MMA as much as his football, and would like to pursue an oppurtunity to broadcast.

He should do a guest commentating gig with Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg for the next Lesnar fight.

Imagine seeing JR call a real life slobber knocker. I don't know about the Miz, but that would be AWESOME!

Glad his broadcasting days are over? Are you kidding? He's the best broadcaster the WWE has seen since, Vince. Love him or hate him- Vince was a really good commentator.

They've tried "new broadcasters" for 30 years, and none of them are or have been worth listening to.

I didn't get to see WM this year, but all the recaps they have on all the shows and the encore previews they have on pay-per view
WM didn't sound the same with out JR. I don't understand why they didn't have him do a farewell broadcast. that's no way to treat someone who has the respect of the superstars and the fans, I only hope that "never say never" and "anything is possable in the WWE" is true in this case and we see JR at ringside again

JR deserves a send off...He may be one of the last great announcers.....

Kev,his off topic but the one who shall not be named is putting it on you for him getting fired. Hilarious. They sit there and degrade pro wrestling but their panties are in a bunch because they aren't in that business anymore. Hilariously dumb.

I don't care if he "didn't fit in with the younger guys", Jim Ross is the greatest announcer in the history of pro wrestling, and WWE should have given him a proper send off. For all the younger fans that don't think he has a spot on today's WWE programming, then you are sadly mistaken. Jim Ross has given so much to the business and provided us with so many memorable sound bites to go along with what we as viewers watch on TV week after week. I really hope that J.R is involved somehow in the next few months so he can have a proper send off.

Jim Ross deserved better than the treatment he has received from McMahon in recent years.
He has been continuously humiliated in public (remember the Dr Heiney skit, Santina Marella "comedy" and the 2008 Draft?).
The man is a broadcasting legend and in most people's eyes the greatest
Pro Wrestling announcer ever.
The WWE should have made a big deal about Jim Ross returning at WrestleMania 26 and let him call the show, or at the very least the HBK-Taker match.
I sincerely hope WWE change their mind, but if not I hope we see Jim Ross come to TNA to announce on atleast a part-time basis. That should bring up the rating figures. If JR decides to pursue other things, then best of luck to him and we can look forward his autobiography. Boomer Sooner!

Not only that, but I hope his send-off includes broadcasting a major match. Not as a color commentator, which is the reason he didn't "fit in with the younger guys" - imho - but as a play-by-play announcer. Y'know, the horse that brought him to the dance.

Sorry, I guess my Oklahomese ain't that great, but hopefully you get my drift...

An MMA fighter is someone who competes in a fighting sport with rules. out on the streets that cocky, arrogant, unhonorable, and disrespectful MMA fighter would be killed. I don't like MMA because of the way the fighter acts and they think they are the best. in their would they may score a so called knock out, a stupid score, or a tap out but in the real world they would score a casket for them selfs to rest in. As for Jim Ross, he should stay in WWE, yes McMahon is an A** but he is the boss but he needs to show more respect to those who work for him.

Vince must be the only person who actually thinks wrestling fans would rather listen to Michael Cole and Todd Grisham instead of Jim Ross. God that is so stupid.

McMahon has been wanting to remove Ross from the mic for quite some time now. However, I think he's trying to keep him on staff for fear that Ross might jump to TNA.

Jim Ross is the best announcer ever! I would love to hear him call matches....in TNA!!! Also Kev you are the man after getting Bubba fired! Great job!

JR is incredibly overrated. He couldn't hold a candle to the all time wrestling announcers like Gordon Solie and Lance Russell. I've read many fan stories where they say JR is a total doucehbag to fans. I believe them. If JR had any balls, he would go to TNA and at least get to announce again.

RESPONSE FROM KE: I have never heard that about J.R. and the fans (not saying it's true or not, just saying I have never heard it), but I can tell you that I have always found him to be a decent guy when we have spoken.

Hi Kevin - I have heard for several years now that Vince point blank does not want JR commenting as appearance wise he does not fit the WWE "image" (I'm presuming this to mean he is not atheletic looking). I have no idea how true these comments are, but it certainly would explain allot as talent wise none of the rest of the "play by play" commentators can hold a candle to JR. Whats your opinion, is this the likely reason ?

I'm even more suprised he wasn't untilised at Wrestlemania and I would hope he is at the very least given a farewell match to call, as well as being inducted into the hall of fame

This is sad. I think he was the only announcer in the history of pro wrestling who had the ability of making a 5 star match out of 3 star match, if you know what I mean.
Vince is really behaving like an idiot(with capital I) in this case.
