Bubba The Love Sponge terminated by TNA
The following was posted on TNA’s official Twitter page a few minutes ago:
Effective immediately, TNA Wrestling has elected to terminate the services of Todd Clem p/k/a Bubba the Love Sponge.

Good, he had no business near a wrestling promotion. He decided to revive an incident that was old news and dead. Hopefully this is the last time I come here and see his name.

Careful everyone! or the"bubba army" might harass you on twitter.

Truly the scum of the Earth, Kev. BTLS is just a rotten human. I hope Awesome Kong lands in a TNA or WWE soon, I am one of her biggest fans and have been since her debut in 2007. So much more talent than that worthless 'shock jock'.

Christmas comes early for Kevin Eck. Merry Christmas, Kev.

Good. First the Nasties, now Bubba Sponge. Hogan's cronies are falling like dominoes. The NWO is next. Then Flair is off to the convalescent home. Then Hogan himself is gonna be gone.
I hope Bischoff stays. He's the only one that has half decent ideas. I admit it. I am a Bisch fan.

I find it interesting that the blog author approved of the comments advocating the murder of Bubba The Love Sponge. Seems like you crossed the line there "Eck". By the way, the frosted hair says all we need to know about you. Any wide stances in airport bathrooms lately, there Kevin?
RESPONSE FROM KE: I knew it was just a matter of time before the name-calling got to the "you're gay" insults. So predictable and pathetic.

YES
...that is all
Posted by: Delmon | May 1, 2010 1:46 AM
TNA must read your blog, Kev.

and there was much rejoicing
Posted by: P.rat | May 1, 2010 2:36 AM
It's about time Bubba got the pink slip. Let's hope Hogan and the rest of his cronies are next.
BTW, I am so disappointed in Flair. What a way to "resurrect" his career. Can he really need money that bad? There has got to other ways...
Posted by: steve in seoul | May 1, 2010 2:59 AM
Can we have Foley punch him one more time while the door is hitting his a** on the way out?
Posted by: Anonymous | May 1, 2010 3:25 AM
And with that a loud cheer went up across the village... The Evil BTLS had been banished forever by the good Witch Dixie!
Posted by: Peter | May 1, 2010 6:37 AM
Yes! Three down (Morley, Nasties, Bubba), a few more to go! Maybe things are looking up in TNA?
Posted by: jon in bradenton, florida | May 1, 2010 6:40 AM
Thankfully he is gone .. what a poor excuse of a man.. i wish he would have taken Kong up on coming to her place to face her face to face but no he is too scared to do that .. he wants her to come to him .. Dude if you call someone out you go to them why should they come to you ... Hope his Army sees what kind of man they look up to .. I hope it was Hogan who said "dude you crossed the line - you're history" like my mother always use to say "I brought you into this world and I will take you out" - Hogan brough him in - he should have been the one to step up and kicked him out

The scarier aspect is the fired individual has an audience that thinks this nasty sexist, racist, hateful behavior is acceptable.
Posted by: Jay | May 1, 2010 8:57 AM
Thank Goodness. I can start watching TNA again. Now if TNA would get rid of Flair (out of the ring at least he is still gold on the mic) and Hogan( completely he comes on I change the channel for 5 minutes) and I might make it through the show without changing the channel.

I wonder how fast Terry Bollea and Eric Bischoff will be fighting this.

Posted by: Bubba Army Doug | May 1, 2010 1:25 PM
"Bubba Army." Christ, what an a**hole.
If he had worked half as hard mobilizing that "army" to tune into Impact! on Monday nights, then he'd be bulletproof with Dixie and he could keep shooting off his mouth with impunity.
How many times have we seen this before. Somebody sees an opportunity for a wrestling promotion to boost his career, but doesn't feel compelled to contribute anything back to the wrestling business. At least Jim Hellwig was entertaining to watch. This putz had zero redeeming qualities. Absolutely none. Good riddance.

Bubba got fired from TNA again?? Really?? REALLY??
Posted by: Horseman420 | May 1, 2010 1:44 PM

Posted by: The Ville | May 1, 2010 2:25 PM
Don't you ever get tired of getting chewed out for your opinion?
Seriously approximately half the comments on your other post insult you in some way shape or form.
I commend you for standing your ground and letting those comments through in the first place. Admittedly if it was my blog I probably wouldn't have approved them.
I'd tip my hat to you if I had one.

That's for sure. There are far too many kids that think that women and minorities are beneath them. It's not even something worth joking about.

A lot of fans swamped Dixie's twitter and TNA's email with complaints. This blog voicing a complaint is also helpful. It simply reached the stage that TNA couldn't keep covering for that guy.
Either that or maybe, just maybe, DIxie Carter was disgusted by his comments. News sites are saying she was angry when she heard the interview.

Bubba , you're an ass....Good Riddance...
Posted by: Jack | May 1, 2010 4:07 PM
Wrestling is for children. It's fake. IF you're older than 12 and follow wrestling you're a RETARD. Only in pro wrestling could a 5'8" 350 lb woman be considered an athlete. Kong is a fat blob that will have diabetes in no time from being so FAT. Hogan is a roided up cripple. Pro wrestling is a JOKE, and a bad one at that. Idiocracy at its finest.
Put any one of those roided up bikini wearing homos in the real ocotogon and you'll see what a REAL ass kicking is.
I've never watched a second of pro wrestling because it's FAKE, you simpletons.
As Aubrey Huff said on Bubba's show "Baltimore is a complete horse s*** town." Nobody could say it better.

"In a twitter reply he actually blames his firing on YOUR article."
Kevin Eck, sportswriter and sports-entertainment blogger for the Baltimore Sun, was given credit today for the unceramonious dismissal of "shock jock" and part-time wrestling personality Todd Clem, aka "Bubba the Love Sponge."
I've never been more proud of you Kev. I owe you a beer if I ever see you in town.

You know what aspect of this I'm enjoying most? Reading the Iron Sheik going full psycho against Bubba via Twitter. Stupid, gross, and 10,000 times funnier than BTLS will ever be.
MAJOR LANGUAGE WARNINGS!!!

Kev...Whoever said writing a blog couldn't change the world for the better.
I'm pretty sure BTLS got what he had coming because of his mouth, his "anger army" and Dixie' s better judgment. I doubt it was this blog or your opinion. However if you had anything to do with it.....Thank You....very much
Posted by: mat | May 1, 2010 7:05 PM
is this joke? has chubba really said that he got fired because of YOUR article? you should make a post explaining this!
Posted by: Chiskabob | May 1, 2010 7:12 PM
To be fair Kev, if it was your article that sent Chubba down then you should be proud. You've done the whole wrestling world a massive favour . And even if it wasn't, he's an ignorant racist that has no place in TNA or anywhere near our TV screens in general. I heard what he said recently to Awesome Kong, and quite frankly, I'm disgusted by it. I'm so glad that TNA has binned him, and hopefully he will never appear anywhere near a wrestling company ever again.
Posted by: Paul | May 1, 2010 9:59 PM
Kev, if it was your article that got BTLS fired, you should just retire. Can any accomplishment truly top that?
Posted by: Razor | May 1, 2010 11:26 PM
So Kev, of all the haters who yell at you for not knowing "who Bubba really is" and talk about how he just exercises his right to free speech, how many of them have said that you are just as entitled to your free speech as well?
Everyone is entitled to say what they want, but we don't have to like it, nor do we have to listen. However, there's also a line that can be crossed when saying what you want becomes slanderous, hateful, racist/sexist etc. and is actually a crime. In fact, some people like to point out that there's as much of a right to living free of hate-speech as there is a right to speak freely.
No I didn't listen to any of this, so yes I'm not knowledgable about the particular situation, but in general that's just my opinion.
In addition, perhaps people don't realize Mr. Eck does this blog as a pastime OVER AND ABOVE his actual job at the paper in the sports section. So this is his venue for free speech, and it's kinda ironic that some really 'intelligent' people seem to rip into Kevin for not recognizing BTLS' free speech, when he hasn't stopped him from saying anything, he's simply used his own right to free speech to voice his opinion.
I don't have to listen to the program to get a feeling for the audience he has based on some comments posted on this blog at this time and in the recent past. I'm sure there are some people who are perfectly reasonable who like the program, but they're good enough not to be mouth breathing mono-syllabic morons.
I could go on, but there's no point, as the people who will get what I'm saying have already got it, and those who don't get what I'm saying can't read this many words.
Right behind you on this one Kevin.
Posted by: G | May 1, 2010 11:32 PM
You got the shock jock fired, Kevin? You must have some dirt on Hogan. Are there photos? Do you care to post a link?
Posted by: Christopher | May 2, 2010 1:01 AM
Its unfortunate this happened, now The Bubba Army will stop watching Impact and they will lose the ratings war. Nearly 4 months of kicking WWE's @ss in the ratings GONE!
Its amazing the clout this guy thinks he has because he has a few thousand half bred morons who have the balls to make veiled threats online and enjoy corn ball jokes on their way to their office and or Klan Hall. If Eck led this move, I say take the Red Ruby boots off Bobby Sponge's feet and give em to the man.
And who the hell is Aubrey Huff? Some sort of porn star/drug addict?
Posted by: MechanicalBull | May 2, 2010 1:52 AM
From now own, after having seen sir eck´s glorious feats over Chubba, reaching the point if getting him exiled from the TNA kingdom, I hereby declare myself the first ever integrant of ECK'S ARMY!! Anyone who has the desire to join me in glorious battle all over twitter, facebook, or any other landscape from the mysterious countries of the social networks against the nefarious, hypocrites no-morals of Chubba´s army, will be welcomed.
ECK'S ARMY!!!

"Put any one of those roided up bikini wearing homos in the real ocotogon and you'll see what a REAL ass kicking is."
You do realize that Brock Lesnar was a pro wrestler before he was UFC Heavyweight Champion, right?
"And who the hell is Aubrey Huff? Some sort of porn star/drug addict?"
The name rang a faint bell from when I used to watch baseball. Checking Wikipedia showed that he used to play for the Orioles. Doesn't mean he's right, of course.
Posted by: Rob Brown | May 2, 2010 3:12 PM
Hey Kevin,
In a few days Bubba will probably try and challenge you to a "sanctioned" match on his show.
Posted by: B | May 2, 2010 4:51 PM
One more Thing Kevin,
After getting Bubba fired you have become a legend. After all the great blogs you have written and even after your job in the wrestling business, this right here is your crowning achievement. May I be apart of "Eck's Army"?
Posted by: B | May 2, 2010 4:54 PM
Clarification first, I meant "inbred" earlier, but knowing the typical Bubba Boy I'm sure they find "half-bred" far more insulting.
"And who the hell is Aubrey Huff? Some sort of porn star/drug addict?"

Yeah, I checked too. Mr. Huff also isn't too bright since he made these comments while he was playing for Baltimore. He did claim they were taken out of context, which also might mean Spongebubba railroaded him.
Oh well, "Aubrey Huff" still sounds like a porn actress that gets high off cans of air freshener.
Posted by: MechanicalBull | May 2, 2010 8:44 PM
"I've never watched a second of pro wrestling because it's FAKE, you simpletons."
And this is what is wrong with intolerable morons on the internet these days. They judge people for what they believe in while never once considering the opposite side's perspective. Props to "The Army" for being unable to string coherent and logical sentences together.
The free speech comments are another example of "The Army's" ignorance: you cannot in today's society say the things that BLTS said on a live broadcast. There are limits to free speech. Do any of you recalcitriant frauds know your history? You cannot yell "Fire" in a crowded opera house, nor can you call an African-American woman a "black b****". There is societal backlash, and BLTS is feeling it.
Posted by: The Ville | May 2, 2010 9:23 PM
You, Kevin Eck, have no f'n idea what you are talking about. What was this word that Bubba said that you can't repeat in your article? Was it b****? B**** is used quite frequently on TNA programming. Was it black? Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there a worker on the TNA roster who refers to himself as "The Black Pope." Going by your logic then that is incredibly racist and he should be fired immediately. All you marks continue to hate out of envy of Bubba who is a fat a** from Florida who gets paid to talk s*** all day and hang out with wrestlers. Something you wish you could do, instead you write some dark match article no one cares about.
RESPONSE FROM KE: If no one cares about my article, why is BTLS claiming that it is what got him fired? Just sayin.'

"Big Brother" could never raise awareness like this. Congrats on the resurrgence of visitors to your blog!
Ever since Matt Hardy made the comment that perfectly described your blog, I had assumed your words were on the radar of both TNA and WWE. I'm sure they look forward to your recaps more than I do (not that they act on the constructive criticism).

... it's been rumoured that when questioned on his involvement in the Bubba The Love Sponge firing angle, that well known journalist Kevin Eck responded, "...Hulk Hogan didnt screw Bubba, I certainly didnt screw Bubba - Bubba screwed Bubba!"

Eck Army!!!
Posted by: SteRDLK | May 3, 2010 5:40 PM
Great news! My only question to Dixie would be why did it take so long to dump the scum?
Actually, another question comes to mind. Since this was Hulk's boy, isn't he going to man up and defend his good buddy? Of course, the way Chubba and his loser listeners have verbally blasted the wrestling industry since the firing, maybe Hulk is actually finding it difficult to remain friends with the low-life.
Note to TNA sponsors: you will likely get more bang for your advertising bucks now since so many people like me were immediately switching away whenever Chubba waddled onto the screen.

Let me say love the blog Kev and have a great deal of respect for you and your opinion. Secondly Iron Sheiks comments on his twitter page gave myself and a work mate a great laugh. What a legend!

If anyone still claims that the Bubba Army is only presenting intelligent, well thought out responses, then go read the comment by this guy above. It pretty much sums up the hatred that this group of fans hold within themselves. Why on Earth would anyone wish death on someone for speaking their mind on a blog? It's a blog, you know, an editorial that expresses the views of the writer. We do have free speech in this country to some extent...
Here's hoping Kevin's success lasts a long time and his health doesn't fail.

Pretty much everything on TV is fake. Get over yourself.
TV news is rubbish and manipulated by a select few. Movies are fake (so what) and they are mostly by the numbers or just remakes of older films. Most new programming is so streamlined and manufactured that there is no originality. Reality TV is mostly scripted. So like I said, almost everything on TV is fake...or just dull.
I recently watched a very long documentary about the American economic system because it was incredibly fascinating. Later, I watched ROH because it was entertaining. It just goes to show that wrestling fans can enjoy intellectually stimulating things as well as simulated violence. We're not all brainless slobs.
Posted by: Another Wrestling Mark | May 4, 2010 9:00 AM
Can anybody inform me what a Love Sponge is?
SteRDLK, love sponges would be people that sop up love because they don't have any on the inside, so they've got to get adoration from legions of strangers to validate their own inflated sense of self-worth.
If you watched or listened to Todd Clem at all, then he couldn't have defined it any more clearly.
