The Rock wants to ‘do something special’ in WWE

OK, here’s the bad news: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said in an interview with The Ottawa Sun that he was originally scheduled to be the Raw guest host this past Monday, but he had to back out due to a scheduling conflict, and he’s now going to be tied up for a while with filming his next movie.

The good news is that Johnson said he “absolutely” will return to WWE at some point.

And now for the great news: Johnson hinted that he would be doing more in WWE than just a one-off as Raw guest host.

“The goal is to go back and do something special,” Johnson told The Ottawa Sun. “I talked to Vince [McMahon] a couple of months ago and we're trying to come up with something. After I wrap [filming of action movie] ‘Faster,’ maybe in the summer I can go back.”

Before we all get too excited, however, it’s important to note that Johnson used words such as “the goal,” “trying” and “maybe.” He also never said anything about getting back in the ring.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t hope. After all, The Wrestling Observer did report recently that WWE was trying to put together a match between The Rock and John Cena for WrestleMania XXVI.

Perhaps that dream match could take place at SummerSlam instead. The story line would basically write itself considering all the comments Cena has made in the press over the years about Johnson not loving the business or giving back to the fans.

Personally, I think a match that’s every bit as intriguing as Rock vs. Cena is Rock vs. Shawn Michaels. There’s a built-in story line there, as well. When The Rock was starting out in WWE, Michaels and his pal Triple H purportedly tried to hold him back. One might think that Johnson wouldn’t want to work with Michaels because of that history, but when Johnson appeared at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony in 2008, he said three guys he never wrestled but wished he did were Cena, Michaels and Rey Mysterio.

Truth be told, I don't miss The Rock one bit. He could never get through a promo without mentioning asses, feces, flatulence, or some part of the intestinal tract. It wore thin after awhile. Actually, he and John "poopy" Cena may have more in common than either of them realizes.

Who? Why would a children's movie star want to guest host RAW?

As far as a Rock/Cena match goes, that would be a spectacle to see. However, I do not think that it will happen in the near future.

You might want to read this: http://headlineplanet.com/home/2010/01/14/major-wwe-name-suffering-from-back-injury/

However, if this dream match were to happen, do you think Cena will be forced to do the job just like Samoa Joe to the debuting Kurt Angle in TNA or will it be a scenario like WM18 where the younger Rock beat the elder Hogan?

RESPONSE FROM KE: The Cena back injury story has been out there, but I have yet to hear anything from a reliable source about how severe it is.

I completely disagree with the first two comments. In my opinion, The Rock is THE biggest star in WWE history. He was a bigger star than Bret Hart, Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan, and John Cena. Nobody in history had better mic skills or in-ring charisma and originality. His interviews were legendary funny (look them up on youtube and you'll understand), and even if you didn't like his fart jokes (which were hilarious) he did make other jokes that were funny no matter what. I cannot wait for him to come back, because the WWE really isn't going anywhere right now. The Rock will surely bring ratings and interest to the highest level if he will return to the ring. A feud which I would love to see is Rock-HBK or Rock-Jericho. I could also see Rock-Cena, but if Cena pins him once I'll be depressed for the rest of my life. Everything Cena does today - from the five knuckle shuffle and his attempts to excite the crowd in interviews and mic work - are all poor attempts to mimic The Rock's People's Elbow and comedy jokes.

Wrestling needs the Rock more than any other retired wrestler, Flair called Austin the greatest drawcard of the WWE's history but the Rock overtook him at the end, far bigger range and can go from most hated heel to biggest face at the switch of a light, No one wanted to hate heel Austin.

Gimme Michaels V Rock in a real grudge match over a Rock V Cena mutual lovefest (which is what would happen after the bell rang) anydays. . .

Precisely for that reason. He's a children's movie star coming back to guest host a children's variety show. Perfect platform to plug his Disney movies. Oh, the PG hilarity in store for us when The Rock confronts Hornswoggle.....

Child movie star???? did you just post that on a WRESTLING BLOG?????? dude, "The Game Plan" rocked!!!

john cena would beat the rock in the ring &on the mic john cena is the knew rock since the rock chose making movies over the wwe fans the fans was the one who made the rock sorry rock you arent the great one any more or ever was rock you suck go cena you rule

The Rock was just about the best talker the business had in the last generation. WWE definitely needs him bad.

Come on Rock, give us the match we've wanted from day 1, The Rock vs Juventud

It would be great to see The Rock back in WWE as a guest host or in a match. He is one of the best ever and I was disapointed he went in to the movie business because I miss watching him in the ring. But all credit to him he has made a decent movie career for himself

Darn it and we were so close to getting The Rock back on WWE Raw. Hopefully before the end of the summer The Rock gets to come back to the WWE. I was looking forward to that along with my other friend. The Rock guest hosting WWE Raw. Let's hope no one from the WWE has any animosity towards The Rock for backing out of guest hosting Raw to promote his film "The Tooth Fairy" in Mexico.

Bitter fans can get as mad as they want but watching yet another terrible Raw kind of makes me wish Rock would come back. Bret's not showing up and Jericho's being made to look like a punk again so anything to make that show tolerable would be much appreciated.

Who can the
Tooth Fairy beat Hornswoggle,

Would love to see the Rock but would much rather see the Rock vs. HBK if I have to choose. Cena vs Rock - Rock should win. HBK vs. Rock - HBK should win.

I would love to see The Rock back in WWE again! I hope they can make it happen soon, and I hope he gets back in the ring.

Either Rock v. Cena or Rock v. Michaels would be great - those three could definitely put on an entertaining program and match.

Anything but the "Tooth Fairy"...why, Dwayne, WHY?!?

Never say never in professional wrestling. Seeing Bret Hart back on RAW with McMahon and Michaels was something I thought was very, very doubtful, but it happened.

The Rock vs John Cena I now consider a possibility at some point. The match would be huge and historic. I just hope they do it at a WrestleMania one year in front of 70,000 fans because the atmosphere would be incredible.

I think The Rock distanced himself from the WWE for a long time because he wanted to gain some credibility as a Hollywood actor. Now that he has become much more established in that industry, I feel he can now give something big back to the wrestling fans.

"john cena would beat the rock in the ring &on the mic john cena is the knew rock" Is it me or does this entire comment contradict itself,Cena would beat the Rock on the mike, yet Cena us the new Rock? Listen the Rock had the best promos of ANY wrestler in the History of wrestling with Ric Flair a close second,,the man is/was unbelievably good, with his million dollar smile(MDM wasn't too shabby either)presence, looks, talent and considerable ad-libbing ability he was a cross between Robin Williams & Every other GOOD to GREAT wrestler on the mike. This he left us BS is just that,he has been more successful than any wrestler by far--- once he crossed over into the movies and some of you fault him for this? Let me get this straight you are working at YOUR job and YOU receive tremendous acclaim, fame and achieve what you never thought possible, then (said profession, pick one) you get offered a chance to do better, reach a larger audience, provide better for your family and considerably decrease the risk of permanent personal &physical injury(which would put you on the shelf at your current position) and you are trying to tell me this would be a decision that would effect your loyalty and gratitude towards the place that gave you your shot? Isn't that the point? Sorry I don't get it,sure some of the humor was sophomoric at best, but even that was Damn Funny. Anytime we as wrestling fans are lucky enough to get another shot of the Rock,we should take it, like it and as the Rock would say know our Roles, save our Candy Asses, and Smell what the Rock is cookin". Cena is a cardboard copy of a hundred other past wrestlers, sure he has some spice, some humor and a load of charisma, but the new Rock don't think so, as Lloyd Bentsen said I knew Jack Kennedy and you sir are no Jack Kennedy.

The Rock was one of the biggest star in the wrestling industry, he is bigger than Hogan, Hart and Austin .... I would definitely watch Raw once more if he would ever guest host the show, I also want to see The Rock whoop Cena's candy ass and watch The Rock promo's one more time, and trash talking the new and old superstars in the wwe (undertaker,HHH,HBK)... Attitude Era is the best era in wrestling ....

Rock could just be doing this to gain favor again with his former fans. Perhaps doing this convinces some of them to go watch his movies again?

Keep in mind that he already has a built in excuse for later on in the year. He could simply say that he wasn't able to find time to show up in WWE because of his movie schedule.

How about Rock vs Cena vs Micheal for Wrestlemania??? Two for one The rock gets to wrestle two guys he has never squared off against... and beat their rooty poo Candy A@@es

ROCKAMANIA rocks big time. Far more than HULKMANIA. The Rock had it all. CENA would be priledged to step into the ring with the people's champion. At this point in time no one would be able to give CENA a bigger career match than the "Most electrifying one". I just don't see how CENA would benefit from a feud with the Rock though. He(Cena) is already the worst top babyface ever in the WWE and against the Rock that will be even more emphasized unless he opts for a Heel Turn through which he can draw a huge heel HEAT!!!

Honestly Rock-Orton or Rock-Punk would be better than Rock-Cena but neither is big enough to face a returning rock. Maybe Rock-Jericho will do ...Can you imagine what kind of Promos they will both cut but then again Jericho in-ring abilties cannot
guarantee a classic.

If Cena however could turn heel by proclaiming himself the greatest in-ring and on screen performer ever then it will be good to see how The Rock takes to that...A soft Cena would not help the feud but an arrogant one would seriously draw a lot of attention and anticipation.Rock should win with a possibility of a re-match that Cena could win at a later stage. The two could then do back-to-back WMs.

As usual, there's no winning for The Rock. If he doesn't return, people say he doesn't give back. If he returns, they say it's just because his movie career needs help.

on youtube's main page today the Rock was featured with a selection of his favorite videos on youtube. check out the link to see the videos he picked. a few cool wrestling vids, the best in my opinion is the "snuka vs muraco cage match" video

I'm soooo ready for Rocky to return to the WWE.

I've been waiting to see Rocky vs. Shawn Michaels for years. MAKE IT HAPPEN, WWE!

Rock for all he's worth is a decent guy. The chicks dig him. The dudes back in the day wanted to be like him. His mannerisms and promos were always entertaining, perhaps even more than his actual wrestling abilities, which weren't as good as they were in his prime.

You would think since the Rock was such a great entertainer in WWE, his transition to the field of acting would have been very smooth. However, a lot of Rock's movies have been disappointments and box office failures. Gridiron Gang, the best he's done, was very good, very well rounded, and great acting from top to finish. Thoroughly enjoyable. Game plan wasn't as good but was decent and had a very wide appeal to younger kids. It's a movie that the whole family could gather and watch. Most of Rock's other movies with the exception of Scorpion King, and Walking Tall, have been horrible. Be Cool, which Rock played a major role in, bombed. Doom wasn't that much of a hit. Tooth Fairy hasn't produced the desried results. So I guess Rock is deciding to try his hand in wrestling again after playing both sides of the fence to his advantage with his wrestling career and Hollywood.

People were mad at Cena when he dissed the Rock back in interviews in 2008, but those people need to get over themselves. Cena was right. In Rock's book he said all he ever wanted to do was be a wrestler and he was very passionate about the business. What's even more ironic, without the help of his ghost writer, he said, essentially, some people get into the business, ride the wave, make quick money, and get out. Hypocrite anyone? The Rock pretty much did the exact same thing. He's still testing the waters with his acting and wrestling but if he does manage to go back to his former love, he shouldn't be expected to be welcomed back with open arms.

It's been specualted that many of Rock's former colleagues have lost respect for him. Triple H comes to mind. He is an ass, but it's a shame that many of the Rock's former peers now dislike the guy. Heard Rock was rude and somewhat snobbish at the Hall of Fame back in 2008. Didn't want to interact with the boys or anything as if he he had elevated himself above the business.

Rock is no fool by a long shot. If he can, he's going to go right back to WWE, of course, unless his acting career does an amazing 180 and propels himself back into the Hollywood spotlight, which is what he ultimately wants. Then he will ditch WWE again. Even more ironic.

Again Rock for all he's worth is a decent guy. However, he needs to try his best to get his act together. The divorce is weighing heavily on his mind. Still, that's no reason for Rock to go around acting like his s--- doesn't stink. Hope he gets it all worked out.
