The Raw rating
According to multiple reports, Monday's episode of Raw, which featured Bret Hart's first live appearance on the show in 12 years, ended up doing a 3.6. rating, a number that in retrospect has to be somewhat disappointing for WWE.
While the show was seen by 5.6 million viewers -- making it Raw's largest audience in more than four months -- 3.6 is the same rating Raw did last week. It looks as if TNA's live, three-hour episode of Impact, which went head to head with Raw from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., did cut into Raw's audience.
I figured Hart's presence on the show would have resulted in a rating above 4. It appears that viewers were interested in seeing Hart -- his show-opening segment with Shawn Michaels beat Hulk Hogan's segment in a head to head matchup (3.7 to 1.9) and the overrunof the Hart-Vince McMahon segment did a show-best 4.4 quarter hour -- but were less hesitant to flip to Impact when "The Hitman" wasn't on screen (he appeared in three segments).
Going up against a TNA show that featured Hogan's debut, hot-shot angles and surprise appearances -- including Jeff Hardy in the opening segment -- WWE put on a show that, with the exception of Hart's return, was an otherwise routine episode of Raw.

Yes, yes, and yes! I completely agree.

"WWE put on a show that, with the exception of Hart's return, was an otherwise routine episode of Raw." Eggggggggggzzzzzzzzzaaaaaaaaaccccctttttttllllyyyyyyyy! I would add that after 10 (or however many it's been) years of Brett's whining, he's not sooo exceptional either. I'll give him the first 3 years, as he has a somewhat valid complaint, but last I checked wrestlers have been getting the so-called "Montreal Screw Job" since the beginning of time. The guy lost my respect some time ago, Brett and his family made quite a bit of money in the "biz", seems to me they knew what they were getting into. Does that make it right? Of course not but his constant wish to see & portray himself as some kind of martyr is sad,and true to the nature of the business, he supposedly despises (due to Montreal), once enough greenbacks were on the table he was more than happy to whore himself back. So Brett take your self righteousness right to the bank(oh that's right he did) and get off of the ego trip.
RESPONSE FROM KE: You obviously are nothing but an HBK mark. Couldn't resist.

The point is TNA had a drop off in viewership after Raw started at 9. TNA has been hyping the Hogan coming to TNA for almost 2 months (Including having a press conference). And also hyping the surprises the show would have. The WWE has only been hyping the Hart return for 3 weeks. Like I said before the WWE knows that a true Monday Night War is a marathon, not a sprint. Vinces know that the Hart/McMahon storyline has to play out until mid-April, while TNA put all its eggs in one basket. What happens if Jeff Hardy is convicted? What about when the Grumpy Old Men (Hogan, Flair, Sting, Nash and Hall) get even older. I can't wait until they replay this whole thing on WWE On Demand about 5 years from now.

Despite Jeff's short comings, he is my boy and always will be.
Where Jeff goes I go..... unless its to jail.

Ok, for all the HBK marks, here's one for ya. HBK had so much respect for the business back then, instead of doing the J.O.B. to Brett he vacated the title to "find his smile" before having knee surgery. Now clearly, Sean could have had a match with the injury, put Bret over, and come back after.
So enough of Bret not doing what his "Boss" wanted; I'm sure McMahon really wanted HBK to go "find his smile" as well.

Common Sense - you must be smoking if you didn't think RAW would cut into TNA's rating. It is WWE's flagship program and an enormously popular cable show. TNA held their own....I don't think it was a massive success, but it was a success nonetheless.

That is indeed what happened. HBK used to be a jerk. Ask anybody who had to work with him other than his friends in the clique (or Kliq or however they spelled it), and most of them will tell you so. While both Bret and Shawn were happy to bury one another in interviews back then and I don't think their animosity was solely the fault of one or the other, I believe that Shawn was more to blame for it than Bret based on his reputation.
Having said that, everything I've read suggests he's a changed man today.

Kev, are you going to he Raven game Sunday? Let's lay the smackdown on those overrated jabronies from Foxboro. How do you think they will do without Welk. . . IT DOESN"T MATTER WHAT ANYONE THINKS ABOUT THE PATS! Good guys - 23
Bad guys - 21.
Then off the Indy who we should've already beaten.
Kev,
Why hasn't TNA moved to Monday Nights already (even before Hogan)? It should be automatic. Wouldn't they easily draw more than the .8 - 1.0 just by being on as the same time as Raw? Plus Raw is vulnerable to losing viewers with their overplayed storylines. Making it better is that Spike and USA are located next to each other on Direct TV,cannels 241 and 242 respectivly. If they can use ogan to draw viewers but still promote their young talent then they ave a chance at growing. I don't think they will because of the players running it, Biscoff, Russo, Hogan. If I heard, "We're changing the business" one more time from Hogan or Bischoff I was going to Van Gough my ears. I've always been a WWE guy but would give TNA more of a look if it was on Mondays and if they stay away from reforming the NWO, and show more matches like the Angles/Styles one. That was a 5 star match.
RESPONSE FROM KE: Not going to the game this weekend.

Eck - you hit the nail on the head. Raw, even with the guest host aspect, is too formulaic and predictable. Every episode will have Hornswaggle do something not funny, have DX push merchandise in a way that's not funny, will have Randy Orton talk to Legacy, will have Bourne or Swagger job to somebody who they shouldn't, job to, have Sheamus squash somebody, and have a guest host underwhelm. Oh, and Cena will turn into the Incredible Hulk in a predictable interview and in a match that's "personal". Up until Bret's return there hasn't been a story line that was "must see".

Sorry, I will always have sympathy with ANYONE in the Hart family based on what happened with Owen.

AtomicDog, I thought the typical argument was that Bret was MORE respectful of the business than Shawn was... not that they were about equal. If you're arguing that they were equally driven by their own self-interests, I think the only people who are gonna argue with you are the Bret marks.

Quick question: How many of those knocking Bret to be a sell out etc. are the same people that for years and cried and complained about how Bret should just get over it all? I have always been a huge Bret fan, but also know he's human, can be hard headed etc. But for that dude up top talking about refusing to drop the title to Shawn, Shawn refuswed to drop it to bret, tried to refuse against Austin at mania 14, undressed vader etc. I've never taken away from HBK's abilitys in a ring, I'm just saying that for those of you that complain about the current state of "pro wrestling" look no further than HBK and triple H...history shows I'm right

Comment of the week Keir and I totally agree. Jeff has his issues but a fantastic wrestler none the less and always worth watching no matter where he performs.

Can I use my status as your only 2 time commentor of the week to nominate this comment for comment of the week?

I'm going to start spelling HBK's name as Sean Michaels if they continue calling the Hitman Brett.

I have suggestions for wwe: as they are on PG they should start portraying cartoonish charachters. They should name cena as SuperCena.Orton can be a mad scientist and legacy can be his scientific experiments.Edge can be movie star charachter(instead of rated r).chris jericho as a politician with big show as his body guard, rey mysterio as a superhero(some alter ego storyline),Batista is already the Animal so he should make his entrances in a cage surrounded by some zoo guards.Any more suggestions kev???
