Royal Rumble preview
Predictions for tonight’s WWE pay-per-view:
30-man Royal Rumble match: Judging by recent episodes of Raw and Smackdown, it looks as if the final four will be Batista, John Cena, Shawn Michaels and Triple H. I’m guessing Michaels and Triple H will end up causing each other’s elimination, leaving Batista and Cena. I’m going with Cena.
World heavyweight champion The Undertaker vs. Rey Mysterio: It would be a major shocker if Mysterio beat The Undertaker. I don’t see it happening, although I do expect Mysterio to put up a good fight and get some near falls, as he almost always does when he loses to a big man.
WWE champion Sheamus vs. Randy Orton: This rare heel vs. heel title matchup is a tough one to call. I can envision a few scenarios. One is that Legacy tries to interfere on Orton’s behalf, but it backfires and allows Sheamus to get the win, thus adding to the tension between Orton, Ted DiBiase Jr. and Cody Rhodes. Another is that the match ends in a double disqualification. Of course, the best scenario is that WWE gets the belt off Sheamus and puts it on Orton. That’s the one I’m predicting (hoping) will happen.
ECW champion Christian vs. Ezekiel Jackson: My first thought was that this was going to be another successful title defense for Christian, who has held the championship for six months. After thinking about it some more, however, I’m thinking Jackson pulls the upset due to outside interference by William Regal. With the possible exception of Vance Archer, Christian has defeated every legitimate challenger on the ECW roster, so it’s probably time for a change. Plus, WWE has been building up Jackson as an unbeatable monster, and Regal costing Christian the title plays into the ongoing story line of Regal’s obsession with possessing the championship in one form or another.
WWE women’s champion Michelle McCool vs. Mickie James: This is what I wrote in my preview of the McCool-James match at the TLC pay-per-view last month: “After the way McCool and Layla have taunted and humiliated James on TV, James has to win the title tonight, doesn’t she? Well, it wouldn’t surprise me if she didn’t, but I’m predicting she will.” Second time’s the charm.

Orton with the WWE title and Cena with a Main event shot at WrestleMania. Talk about a new and exciting matchup that so many people will pay to see!!
RESPONSE FROM KE: If I'm right about them both winning -- and that's a big if -- I don't think they will be wrestling each other at Mania. I think Cena wins the Rumble and challenges Undertaker for the world heavyweight title at Mania; Orton beats Sheamus for the title but then loses it to Triple H at No Way Out; Triple H defends the WWE title against Michaels at Mania, and Orton wrestles DiBiase. Of course I'm probably dead wrong about all of this.

I'm hoping Rey wins, and if reverse momentum means anything he will. And the Punk wins the Rumble. That way we can have a Hair v Title match rather than Hair v Mask as that could only go one way. Hopefully that means Punk keeps his hair, Mysterio keeps his mask, and Punk becomes the only 4-time Straightedge Heavyweight Champion.
One thing i want to add. I do not want Ted to win the Rumble.

if cena does win, and then does go for takers world title.
(but michaels still wants taker at mania, and then hhh decides that he does too)
so at no way out we can have another dx and cena tripple threat. but this time hhh and michaels are apart because hopefully by then they would have lost their titles to the hart dynasty.
so we can have the wrestlmania matches we wanted
taker vs cena
hhh vs michaels
as for batista?
i still say put him in a money in the bank match at wrestlemania

I don't know if this means anything, but I have a ticket to RAW next month and it reads "Main Event" Sheamus defends Championship from John Cena." It also indicates that the card is subject to change though.

My predictions:
Rumble - Batista (most likely) or HHH ('cause, you know, it's HHH)
World - Mysterio pulls the upset, drops the belt to Batista at Mania
WWE - There is no logical reason for Orton not to win the belt. So Sheamus retains.
ECW - Christian. I don't see him losing the belt until he's moved to SD or Raw. He won't be moved any time soon, as there is no one poised to take his place as the one "legitimate star" on ECW (with the possible exception of Jericho).
Women's - Mickie has to win, doesn't she?

The way I would do it is to have Triple H win the rumble and challenge Sheamus to a match at Wrestlemania.
Michaels then gets himself into the Money in the Bank match saying that if he wins he'll cash it in on Taker later that night.
At Mania Money in the Bank goes first. Michaels takes a massive bump at the start of the match leaving him out of it for the majority. He then somehow snatches the briefcase after everyone has destroyed each other.
Taker faces whoever, wins as normal, no sign of Shawn at the end of the match. People assume he's to beaten up after the earlier bump.
Triple H then has a brutal title match with Sheamus. Wins the title...celebrating. Shawn's music hits, cashes in the briefcase and they have a classic match that Shawn eventually wins around the 40 minute mark.
It's possible as Trips has shown he can wrestle more than one match in a night to a high standard whilst Shawn won't have done much wrestling in the actually MITB leaving him fresh to help Trips finally have a 5* match at Wrestlemania.

It is great to see a long title run, even though it the ECW title. Knowing Christian, he will still be the champ even after he loses. Kev, in retrospect, I hated when Christian left TNA to be the top guy on the "c" show on WWE. But I would hate to see what he be going through in Hogan's sinking ship. Your thoughts?

Cena wins the Rumble and takes on the Undertaker @ WM26.
I believe Triple H and Shawn Michaels will come to blows and eliminate each other
Orton beats Sheamus and hopefull does NOT lose the title to HHH @ No Way Out. I don't think that Trips and Shawn need to have a title match to have a memorable match @ WM26. Especially if it's Shawn's last wrestlemania
I would like to see MIckey James win the women's title...simply because the way that Michelle McCool and Layla have treated her. Michelle McCool is a mean..rhymes with witch
I agree that Mysterio will give the Undertaker a good fight b4 losing

Ok Kevin, think you are on the money with most of your choices..but,I think HBK wins the Rumble...think Mickie wins in a big way.Do like the way you think..your idea's about tonite and coming weeks would lead to a great Wrestle-Mania.As always, may God Bless.

Wat about Jericho???????? :(
He has nothing to do other than job to the upcoming stars... :(
RESPONSE FROM KE: Edge vs. Jericho at Mania.
Posted by: Saaron | January 31, 2010 9:55 AM
Here's another possible scenario for taking the belt off Christian. With rumors of Edge's imminent return, perhaps it's time to move Christian off ECW and onto whichever brand his old tag partner will be on.

Has there really been a heel vs heel match. The only one i can think of is the Midnight Express and the 4 Horsemen. Then again I don't know if they wrestled officially or just battled on the mic with Mr. Sole facilitating.
But with heel vs heel matches, there's going to be one person that gets the crowd behind him. Orton is going to get cheers like Cena while Shemus will still get go away heat. So Orton will be the face in this match.
It's not like if Nicholai Volkof took on The Iron Sheik where they both were despised by everyone.

Sheamus has to lose the WWE Championship at some point, right? It's got to be tonight against Orton or a month from now at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. WWE wouldn't possibly have Sheamus as champion going into WRESTLEMANIA, would they? Would they?
Posted by: Matthew | January 31, 2010 10:40 AM
The one thing that keeps me from thinking Cena/Taker for the WHT is that the past two Rumble winners have lost their matches. I don't think they would bury the Rumble by having 3 straight winners lose at Mania. Cena/Taker would presumably be a Taker win, although Cena has as good a shot as anyone to end the Streak. However, winning the WHT, too, and moving to Smackdown won't happen even though Smackdown will be without any top babyface post Mania (Mysterio and Taker both taking time off for knee surgeries). If the Rumble winner has to win their match HHH winning and facing Sheamus makes the most sense. For whatever reason, I get the outside feeling that Jericho wins this match although I don't know what they do with him after that. They've actually got an unpredictable Mania card at this point because the only guarantee is some form of Bret Hart v Vince McMahon

My prediction is that HHH and HBK both touch the floor at the same time. One ref says HBK wins and the other says HHH wins. Thus leading to a Michaels vs. Taker rematch and HHH vs Sheamus. Eck, I think your right about the interference in the Orton match. Somehow Legacy screws Orton.

It would be a travesty if Christian's six-month title reign were ended by Big Zeke. The days in which I would buy unbeatable monsters who could barely work are over. Granted, there aren't a lot of worthy successors on ECW right now, but in my opinion, Zach Ryder is much more deserving of silver than Jackson.

They need to turn Cena heel, he is the reason I stopped watching over the past couple years. STALE STALE STALE.
Even HHH vs HBK has been done before.

Cena winning the rumble...I hope not. All though if your right Cena vs. Taker @ Wrestlemania could be very interesting. Also, they need to get the belt off Shemaus. I'm all for new blood in the top tier but all this guy has is pasty skin and is a good friend of HHH. If only the Brooklyn Brawler had made friends with the Game, he might have had a title run.

With regards to your response to the first comment i think it would make title changes a bit too common before Mania. I'd go with Sheamus retaining against Orton caused perhaps by Legacy making a mess of their interference with Triple H claiming the title at No Way Out.
I don't think Cena vs Taker needs the belt to work but if you want an uncertain victor at the WM main event then it makes sense to to have the title involved so it can be the last match if they wish to go that route.

They've been teasing the breakup of Legacy forever now...do you see Dibiase going to ringside during the match, only to turn on Orton and cost him the title, setting up Orton-Dibiase for Wrestlemania?
Posted by: Delmon | January 31, 2010 2:48 PM
uhh that wouldn't be much better kev.
Posted by: graves9 | January 31, 2010 3:06 PM
Double DQ sounds reasonable for Sheamus/Orton. Except wrestling today (i.e. WWE and TNA) just doesn't know how to maximize a draw anymore to add depth.
Posted by: Mr. Sarcasm | January 31, 2010 3:09 PM
Kevin, do you think there's any chance we see a surprise comeback from Edge in the Rumble match tonight?
RESPONSE FROM KE: I think it's possible we could see him as a surprise entrant -- if he is healthy enough -- and have him eliminate Jericho.
Posted by: Brian | January 31, 2010 3:37 PM
If HHH wins the Rumble then I believe Orton beats Shameus to set up a Orton-HHH WM match. If Cena wins the Rumble then I believe Shameus keeps the belt to set up a big no holds bar anything goes match at WM.
I think it will be Cena and not HHH, why waste the great WM match between HHH and HBK before hand or by not doing it at all.
I'm guessing Batista FINALLY gets Taker at WM and gets to release all his frustration but still lose but then comes back on Friday night to take the title so Taker can his his normal couple months off.
I'm hoping, maybe beyond hope, that Christian drops the belt and he and a returning Edge can cause a further rift between HHH and HBK by teaming together and taking the tag belts
Posted by: Dave | January 31, 2010 3:37 PM
HHH should win. Then, the Road to WrestleMania can lead to the rumored HHH/Sheamus and HBK/Taker 2, OR it could still twist its way to end up as HHH/HBK in the same manner that Hulk/Sid and Savage/Flair happened in 1992.
Posted by: Mr. Sarcasm | January 31, 2010 4:45 PM
My prediction for the rumble......neither members of DX, or John Cena, OR Batista......how about someone different? Each year it is so predictable.....except for when Rey Mysterio won it. How about either Edge (if he is returning) or Ziggler?
Posted by: Peter | January 31, 2010 5:15 PM
My prediction: DX and Legacy are the final four men. HBK throws out Rhodes, but with his back turned, gets thrown out himself by HHH! Caught in the "holy s**t" moment, DiBiase then throws out HHH to win.
Orton wins the title, Mania is Orton vs DiBiase.
HBK, angry that he didn't win, superkicks UT during his match against Rey, causing him to lose the title. UT is angry, and the rematch we all know is going to happen occurs after all at Mania.
Posted by: New York | January 31, 2010 5:34 PM
I can see Cena winning...or Edge winning...or either HBK or HHH winning...but my wild card to win (and my hope) is not DiBiase or CM Punk.
I believe Kofi Kingston wins the 2010 Royal Rumble.
He's so over with the fans...just do it already and let another young star win the MITB at WM 26. Then a vet can be champ after next month, setting up one of the title matches (Cena-Taker being the other). New generation needs to get a rub off the vets and go over.

Kev... the Edge return is something I've been reading all over... but its still out there as rumors... hopefully U got it right... and it gets Jericho-Edge program started tonight!!!!! :)
Posted by: Saaron | January 31, 2010 6:30 PM
What about Kane winning the rumble and doing a HITC vs the Undertaker at Wrestlemania?
Posted by: Peter | January 31, 2010 8:19 PM
EDGE IS BACK!!!!!
U said it Kev!!!! :)
Posted by: Saaron | January 31, 2010 10:35 PM
Sorry Kev, your boy lost.
Too bad they did the same 'shocking' return with Cena a few years ago...nevertheless thank goodness edge is back and can fight Jericho at WM26 after Y2J wins Elimination Chamber
