Poll: Who is your Wrestler of the Decade?

I posted my top 10 Wrestlers of the Decade last week, and it sparked some spirited and thought-provoking debates. A special thank you, by the way, to everyone who refrained from calling me an HBK mark, Triple H mark or a biased idiot.

Using the same criteria that I did to compile the list, who do you think was the Wrestler of the Decade? Here’s a reminder of the criteria:

• Star power and impact on business
• Memorable matches and programs
• Titles won and placement on card
• Activity

I may have enjoyed other wrestlers more at certain times in the decade, but it's really hard to argue with HHH's absolute dominance of the main event from the end of the Monday Night Wars to the present.

This story has two sides...

1 HHH
2 Cena
3 Undertaker
4 Angle
5 Edge
6 Orton
7 Jericho
8 Batista
9 Michaels
10 Rock

Melina

BRYAN DANIELSON~!

I voted for Michaels, but I think you're forgetting somebody whose name I can't say, but it rhymes with Bhris Cenoit.

• Star power and impact on business - nobody impacted the business more than he did. Not even Triple H.

• Memorable matches and programs - Arguably the three best matches of the decade all featured him: vs. Angle at the Royal Rumble in 2003, w/Angle vs. Edge and Mysterio at No Mercy 02, and vs. HBK and HHH at Mania 04.

• Titles won and placement on card - was a main eventer from 02-04 and an upper midcarder who could readily step into the main event thereafter.

• Activity - up until the incident in June 07, was very active.

Well, I've already posted the list of the 10 wrestlers I thought were the best--meaning most entertaining to watch as well as being successful in terms--in the comments of the post that named HHH as #1.

Using the same criteria that you did to pick the top ten, I'm afraid I'm not qualified, since I stopped watching WWE's product in 2003 and didn't start again until mid-2009 after some people I knew were talking about it and I started to catch bits and pieces of it while flipping through channels that piqued my interest. So if anybody had a huge impact on the business during those six years or had a memorable feud, I missed it. (Except for the Benoit thing, and since that had a negative impact on the business I'm guessing it doesn't count.)

And since I started following wrestling in '96 during the HBK/Sid feud, the only promotions I've watched have been WWF/E, WCW and ECW. I've barely seen any TNA so far.

cena
angle
jericho
hbk
taker
rock
orton
edge
Styles
hhh

Once again, I must say Big Dick Johnson!

No just kidding...I'm pretty sure you think my jokes are lame lol.

Anyhow, I think you made great picks and HHH definitely deserves no. 1 for what he did during this decade.

Sitting at the top of my list is the Undertaker just because he's been so active during this time and made a major impact each Wrestlemania or any other PPV he was part of.
I would also consider AJ Styles. I don't really understand why you didn't put any original TNA stars. I guess AJ is the only one I can think of. Obviously you put Kurt Angle in the list but its because of what he did in the WWE more than in TNA. I guess a TNA/NWA world title isn't as big as a WWE championship, but I would still consider putting AJ at least as a mention.

Thanks and I can't wait for your other decade lists to be posted!

aj styles. he is to tna what hhh and cena are to wwe. he is the top draw 4 tna and one of their most recognized stars. his programs against daniels joe and angle have been iconic. his match against angle monday is one of the better matches he has had with angle. even at his worst he has been the top mid carder holding the x division title. this guy has helped put tna on the map and did so even before angle came 2 the company. his finisher and gimmick were copied by michelle mccool and helped give her more personality.

Trish Stratus

Edge. People don't consider him because he missed the end of the decade. But as far as carrying the product - and business - week to week, only Cena and Orton were in his class for the majority of the decade. And for more of the decade then not, WWE depended more on him than Orton. And he's clearly been a better in-ring performer than Cena. And he was always a top-card guy - ahead of Jericho in that regard.

And who else could have made Vicki Guerrero an interesting marketable star?

I'd also consider The Rock - even though he was there only about 3 years - simply because he was the best in the business and a far bigger draw than any of the rest of the top 10. He showed in that 1 day he came back that he could come back whenever he wants and instantly be the #1 draw in the business - and top performer.

im a huge AJ fan and i think hes one of the best in the biz, but you cannot compare someone who makes the impact zone go crazy to someone like hhh or cena or any top wwe guys. tna has a much narrower fan base that really cares about wrestling. thats not a bad thing at all, but its different from wwe's broader audience. a top guy in wwe has to do more than a top tna guy. again, i love AJ, but he doesnt have the charisma or mass appeal that it takes to be a top draw in the wwe.

Chris Jericho. Has anyone had as many classic matches this decade as Y2J?

On the mic, in the ring, there is no one better in sports entertainment in the past 10 years.

Sorry Kev, I didn't took your criterion into account while voting. But I voted for Chris Jericho for what he did to this business. Somebody who can jobto a rookie even in his prime. Not many can do that. Chris Jericho has indeed SAVED WWE.

Its a three way tie for me. Id go with styles, hhh, or angle. HHH because, well all hes done is win big matches since he won the royal rumble in 2002. Styles because he has shown the most star potential, and is the most athletic wrestler in the business. Angle because he was main event caliber all throughout the decade and singlehandedly helped put TNA on the map

1. Kurt Angle
2. Shawn Michaels
3. Chris Jericho
4. Edge
5. Triple H
6. Steve Austin
7. The Rock
8. Rob Van Dam
9. AJ Styles
10. The Undertaker

HHH

Edge makes me sick. I turn wrestling off when he wrestles. All his whining, crying and crap is old. Same goes with Orton. After a while, enough is enough. That's why both of them BARELY make my top 10.

Using the same criteria as you i would say my list would be
HHH
Cena
Taker
Orton
Jericho
HBK
Edge
Rock
JBL
Big show

I'm really confused... I just can't for the life of me wrap my head around why Kurt Angle isn't (if not #1) at least #2. And honestly, I'm no TNA mark, I don't even watch it.

When I look at the criteria you list, it just seems to me that Angle is at the head of the class.

1. Star Power and Influence: With the exception of the first few months of Angle's debut, when the crowds disapproved of his amateur style, Angle has always been a HUGE draw. He was in the World Title picture most of his WWE career, and when he wasn't, he was doing innovative things with the other belts (such as the eurocontinental championship). Angle is a guy who always got great reactions. Fans loved to love him and loved to hate him. And furthermore, when it comes to impact and influence, carrying TNA and turning it into what it is today seems like something I would put on my resume if I was pushing my impact and influence.

2. Memorable Matches and Programs: Angle has won just about as many PWI awards as anyone including feuds of the year and matches of the year awards. Isn't that just about the definition of memorable matches and programs?

3. Titles Won and Placement: Angle has won more world titles than anyone on the list except HHH. Even if you take away the TNA titles, he still has 6 with WWE, only behind HHH, Edge and Cena. During his time with WWE, he was always significant, even if not in the world title picture.

4. Activity: Angle has just as much activity as anyone else on this list during the past decade. Hey, he even came back from neck surgery earlier than he should have. I mean, seriously, no one can take away Angle's resolve and determination.

I know that it wasn't part of the criteria, but heck, I think we can all agree Angle was probably the best worker of the decade. Angle is also great on the mic. He had so many funny vignettes too. Consider also, that Angle debuted on WWE TV at the tail end of 1999. That means that EVERYTHING that Angle has accomplished in his amazing career was done in the last 10 years. That's something else that can't be said about anyone else on this list.

I know that so much of this list is opinion, and that's fine, I'm reasonable. And by no means am I taking away anthing from HHH, Cena, Taker or HBK (they are all awesome and deserving.) It just seems overwhelmingly so, that when you peel back the subjective contributions and look solely at the true facts, that Kurt Angle has accomplished so much more.

I'll go one step further. This is above and beyond this list, because I know that it involves criteria that are not included in this list....

I DARE say that Kurt Angle is the MOST talented professional wrestler EVER. When you put it ALL together: In-ring ability, work on the mic, ability to get over (as a face and a heel), quality of his matches, list of his accomplishments, ability to draw, professionalism in the business and toughness to compete regularly.

So, there are my thoughts on that. If anyone disagrees, please let me know.

Jeff Hardy... no one else

but isn't that wat we are? fans that really care about wrestling? and when you look at the criteria why shouldn't aj be considered in the discussion for top wrestler of the decade? he mets all the criteria and does so on a smaller show that is now starting to relly compete against the all mighty WWE. he has been loyal and true and has been, in my opinion, the most important person on a consistant basis since joining tna in 02.

RESPONSE FROM KE: I respect your opinion, but from my standpoint, A.J. wasn't one of the 10 biggest stars of the decade. Was he one of the 10 best workers? Absolutely. I have a feeling, however, that if he was in WWE he'd be booked at the level of Evan Bourne.

Kurt Angle is a ten year pro, and his first ten years were among the best in the business. He has great matches, always adds new moves to his arsenal (high risk, submissions, etc), and works with a wide variety of wrestlers. He also cuts entertaining promos.

No offense, but HHH just wrestles who ever is on top and only puts himself over (OK he helped some of his friends like Batista, but are Legacy and the Spirit Squad any more over than they were before their work with HHH).

Kev its been almost 2 weeks why are you still stuck on this HHH is the Superstar of the Decade hands down. hears my list now after you made me rethink things:

HHH
Undertaker
John Cena
Kurt Angle
Edge
Chis Jericho
Rey Misterio
jeff Jarrett
Shawn Micheals
Randy Orton

2 quick thing how come Rey does not get any love he sells a lot of merchandise has great matches has a world title, IC title ,cruserweight, tag titles. A wrestlemania moment winning the title from Angle & Orton after Eddie's death. secondly i think Jeff Jarrett contributions were significant as well if you would have done this in the 80's Hogan would have gotten 1 byt flair 7 Dusty probably would have gotten 2 & 3 and they worked for the # 2 Promotion although the gap is probably not as far now as it was then but still.

I've said this in other comments sections, but I'll repeat it here since you made a separate post for it.

Cena.

HHH edges him out in a couple of your criteria categories (number of title reigns, active entire decade, placement on card.... at beginning of decade), but his impact on the business was more profound than anyone else's, and, in the end, WWE is a business and Cena's made them more money than anyone else this past decade. Cena's rise to the top was faster than anyone else's with the exception of Brock Lesnar's, but he left too soon to be considered. The only wrestlers to have more exposure in mainstream media were Benoit and Hogan, but for negative reasons, not to mention, he's a merchandise-selling fiend.

Trevor Murdoch...'nuff said.

actually kev that last comment was pointed towards "nash". but u bring up an interesting point. tna gives guys such as styles a true chance to shine. who was the last unfreakshly strong high flying champion that wwe actually had. Jeff? Well u see where he is now. with wwe its the same 3 or 4 guys vying for the world title belts. and even the others that get chances for the lesser belts don't make the belts look like they are actually sometthing people would have their sights set on attaining. really and truely styles is the face of a company that i beleive is no longer the alternative but is actually the biggest threat 2 the wwe. a company that gives equal oppurtunity to each wrestler, man woman old young black white it makes no difference. plus each title means something to the competitors. sorry if my thoughts come off as unorganized my adhd is in full swing right now
