Bubba The Love Sponge is an idiot

I am proud to say that I have never listened to Bubba The Love Sponge’s show. I have heard plenty about it, but at this stage in my life, the mean-spirited, sophomoric shock jock shtick just isn’t for me.

Unfortunately, thanks to Hulk Hogan and his cronyism, I can no longer simply ignore BLS, as he has ridden the coattails of Hogan into a gig as a backstage announcer for TNA.

Well, it didn’t take long for BLS to embarrass the company. On his Twitter account Thursday, BLS weighed in on the subject of the U.S. providing aid for earthquake victims in Haiti. He posted the following:

“I say f--- hati [sic]. Why do we have to take care of everybody our country is in shambles. Bubba”

Look, everyone has the right to free speech, but if I’m TNA president Dixie Carter, there’s no way I want my company to be associated with this character and his brand of “entertainment.”

It puts Carter in a very tough spot to have someone on her payroll making these kinds of remarks while at the same time her company is trying to raise money for the cause.

TNA announced on its Web site a couple days ago that it is asking fans attending the Impact tapings in Orlando, Fla., Monday-Wednesday to make a financial donation that will benefit the Red Cross relief effort in Haiti.

“The photos and video from Haiti are tragic,” Carter said on the Web site. “We want to help. We have to help. The money raised at The iMPACT! Zone is just a start of TNA’s plan to help the country of Haiti.”

I also wonder how Awesome Kong (Kia Stevens) feels about her new co-worker. While he is spewing hate on his Twitter account, she is using hers to raise money for the victims. Late Saturday night she tweeted: “Wrestlers 4 Haiti raised $5,097.23 in just a little over 48 hrs. and there’s still more coming in.”

If BLS does not face any repercussions for his remarks, I suppose we will know who truly is calling the shots in TNA, brother.

Yes, the Sponge is an idiot. I suppose he's perfectly fine with being left under the rubble in Haiti if he'd been there because every other country is in shambles.

On a different note, you must really despise the person; this is the first time you've ever actually directly called someone an idiot.

Hogan?! Calling shots backstage!? SURELY YOU JEST!

In all seriousness, though, Spongeboy should definitely be fired. I don't care who's calling the shots in the company. What he said was absolutely atrocious.

I doubt my comment will be posted, but I agree with Bubba's sentiment, but not to his extreme. I honestly do believe that we have enough problems of our own, and it would be in our best interest to help our own country first.

He's entitled to his opinion, but he should have worded it better.

I learned as a child that if you have nothing good to say about anything do not say it. I also learned to engage my brain BEFORE opening my mouth. I thought the initials BLS stood for just that ... Bull----. Obviously in this case they do.

so does this mean I cant tune into WCW?

I know nothing of this idiot, but there is a saying there is no such thing as bad publicity...not one to be cynical - but TNA will benefit from this

Kevin, this may not be your duty, but could someone please write to TNA and Dixie Carter? I really wish Bubba receives punishment from TNA for such a despicable comment. For someone who has enough cash, is not anywhere near suffering, it's disgusting.

Yeah, we should not wish ill of others. But this isn't the kind of fool TNA need if they are to go forward.

I can't believe this is at the top of my list for search results of Google news for 'Hati"

Like you Kev, i've not heard a second of BLS's work and seeing him on Impact was my first exposure to him.

The backstage interviewer role is a minor one with the interview basically there to be a conduit and to look good.
I think i'd rather see an attractive young woman like Christy Hemme than i would an overweight, middle-aged man with a ridiculous name.

Those comments about Haiti are dreadful and show a real lack of compassion and sensitivity.
Sadly his views aren't uncommon when such a disaster happens.

Unfortunately nobody will be surprised by this. It is simply another sign of how the "new" additions to TNA are having a negative effect on the company rather than the positive one any new acquisition should have.

TNA should get rid of him now before he causes any further damage. It's not as if the fans will miss him, Jeremy Borash is much better anyway. I don't expect anything will happen though which is yet more bad news for TNA. I only hope Dixie Carter will have the guts to stand up to Hogan, not just on this matter but everything that is being done wrong.

Has BLS even apologised for his remarks? If TNA doesn't even get him to do that then it really is an unfortunate sign of things to come.

Thanks for raising the awareness of this complete slob entertainer: BLS.

Every time I read about Kong outside the ring, she is an act of class. God bless her.

Well, all I can say is "Die Bubba Die". And I really mean it.

What a f***ing disgrace to all human beings who inhabit planet earth. If we can't help out our fellow brothers in their hour of need and we listen to this tosser instead, then we might as well be all dead. Sack him now Dixie, please.

You are so right ..Bubba is an idiot and a full blown jerk.

Where's the up side? What does "Bubba the Love Sponge" (WTF, by the way?) bring to TNA?

while he said it in a crass way,,the general idea of his statement has truth. How much $$$ is our gov't giving them when we are how many trillion $$ in debt. How many people in our country our are in poverty, homeless, unemployed. It does seem absurd with all our own problems why we always help other countries, putting ourselves more in debt.

Who would go by the moniker that is defined as a contraceptive sponge combines barrier and spermicidal methods to prevent conception aka "Love Sponge"? Obviously in this case it is clearly not working.

Peasonally, I would like to see them RU-486 the "love sponge"

It makes me sick to think that that idiot comes from the same hometown as i do.

Well he is a guy who gets paid to insult people what would you expect? In fact It's what he's in TNA for. Didn't Eric Bischoff write a book called " Controversy creates cash"? He's doing exactly what you would expect a Hogan cronie to do. It will work too. ..for awhile.

Eck got an email address we can contact Dixie or Tna and express our feelings about this?

Thanks

RESPONSE FROM KE: Dixie Carter is on Twitter @TNADixie.

BTLS made comments on a comedy radio show that has nothing to do with TNA.

Were the comments in poor taste? Well, as someone who actually listened to the entire segment instead of just a sound byte I can tell you that the comments were part of a much larger comedy routine. Whether the entire routine was funny or not is for each person to decide, but for someone who has "never listened" to BTLS to trash the show is absurd.

A rare miss, Kevin.

RESPONSE FROM KE: I'm not commenting about a sound byte or a segment on a show. I'm commenting on something he posted on his Twitter account.

Wow its crazy that a Shock Jock would do something to get attention.

You're just givin' him what he wants Kevin,

Mr Ecks,

Cronyism is the key word in the entire blog. Since Hogan appeared on TNA, he's brought his entire Hulkamania tour talent with him. It's a shame that the Nasty Boyz and Sean Morely are getting bigger pushes at this point than the Guns and Joe, respectively.

To see that Bubba was brought in is no shock. I fully expect that he'll get a push over the established interviewers on the staff. This guy is a no talent shock jock, plain and simple.

I wish Dixie would see the big picture, and notice that her company is rapidly turning into a repeat of 1997 Nitro/RAW. I just can't wait to see their big surprise, which is likely Goldberg at this point. AJ will wish he was back in ROH after that guy's stiff mule kicks lands him in the hospital with a few concussions, a la Bret Hart...

TJ

I agree Kevin . Frankly , I've never been a fan of "shock jocks" in general ie; Stern , Grease Man , Imus , etc., etc .
Having BLS working for TNA sickens me .
BTW Kevin , remember the infamous Aubrey Huff interview with him ?
Good riddance to that glorified softball player Huff too .
... not that there's anything wrong w/softball players..

Don't worry, Kevin. This is all part of a Russo storyline which will end with Bubba the Love Sponge facing Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive in a winner-gains-control-of-Haiti match.

Calling this slob an idiot, only gives idiots a bad name. Is it me or are the only people with this inane point of view all overeating slobs(Sponge & Limbaugh)? Are they afraid there won't be enough left for them to eat? Oops I forgot Robertson and his genius "pact with the Devil " BS,Sponge got one thing right,OUR Country is in a shambles, problem is it's because of people like him.

Eck here's the TNA email address

info@tnawrestling.com

I sent them an email expressing my distaste.

Oh Kev and sorry about your Colts, oops I mean Ravens. How ironic! Freudian slip.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Ouch.

Maybe Kong will hit Bubba the Fat Ass with an implant buster..
Maybe this will get JB back in front of the camera...one can only hope.

I hope BLS gets kicked off the show, but I agree with him. F HAITI. Would they help save my American ass or eat me? As a student of history, I know it to be the later. People walking around with machetes killing for food---yeah just the folks I want to give money to. Nice one, Eck.

Hope to see BLS go, but HAITI doesn't need my money, so they can kill each other for it.

Baltimore on the other hand does. Thousands of people live in third world elements in Baltimore, but I don't see you leading a money drive, Eck. He made a good point. I think its hypocritical for folks like yourself to tell others to give to Haiti when you won't even help the brothers and sisters down the street that are homeless. Yeah, you just drive by the homeless tents set up only a few miles from the 1st Marineer right? Don't sit in an ivory tower Eck when you've never blogged to raise money for Baltimore. I get his comment; lets take care of our own first.

So, I'll turn it back to you Kev. Why don't you look out for the people down the block instead thousands of miles away? Do you only speak out for charity when its the popular thing to do?

Looks like Eck is giving BLS what he wants anyways. Airing his "controversy" will only further BLS's work. Way to put over a guy you don't like. How do you always find a way to make yourself look like a fool when you talk politics? Even if you didn't like BLS, why blog and give him more heat? I guess you're just not that bright of an Obamabot, huh:-)

RESPONSE FROM KE: I'm taking the high road on this one.

BLS is a douche bag and should be fired. But I wouldn't be surprised if they will ask him to issue an apology for it...which won't do justice at all.

On a different note, Hogan calls into Bubba's show I think every day. I've caught it a few times in the past week on my Sirius....Hogan was confused as to why TNA was taping 3 days next week. He had no idea why, and was trying to figure it out. Pretty crazy to to write for 3 weeks in 3 days.

Dude you're gonna want to hang yourself once Bubba and his radio crew get wind of this. I don't listen to the show but I've heard enough to know not to start up s*** with them...

Kev, I'm with you. Bubba is an idiot. Right up there with Pat Robertson.

Perhaps Kong can deliver an Awesome Bomb on Bubba while she raises funds to deliver relief supplies.

1st of all my heart goes out to everyone in Haiti for this horrible tragic event, Bubba just showed he basically has no class.... but i wont give him any further thought... Since this is a wrestling blog what i will point out is that it does seem that everyones fears about Hogan are coming true.. bringing in his friends who are either has-beens in wrestling or nobodies as far as being a celebrity.. If a bad rating for Impact, bad publicity and other factors play in, then i truly do see TNA being done and gone shortly, Hogan was their last hope, its like putting all your money on red( and yellow) and the wheel lands on black.... Next player please...

Not sure what to say, other than he's a jackass and he definitely needs to go.

Kevin,I have heard this no-talent clown while visiting Fla.All he really is a flunky To Hogan just like his other has been buddies Hall,Nash, and Waltman. If i was Dixie Carter i would sell that high school gym franchise before Hogan and his goon,s run it into the ground.

I agreed completely with your comments about Thursday's Impact regarding the Nasty Boys and Bubba! They have no place in TNA. I found it very interesting that the first night Nash, Hall, and Waltman were in the ring and Hogan told them things would be different, the crowd had a very positive response. As great of a storyline the NWO was at the time, it was run into the ground back then--enough is enough! What sets TNA apart from WWE is matches that involve the likes of Desmond Wolfe, AJ Styles, Kurt Angle. and The Motor City Machine Guns. As for Bubba's dumb @#$ remarks--inexcusable!! He could have just said nothing if he didn't agree with helping Haiti, but it was important to him that he voiced his opinion, which speaks volumes of his lack of character and glaring insecurities. Here is a storyline for ya--let Bubba speak his mind on Impact, then watch as EVERY wrestler executes his finisher on the knucklehead in response--what a GREAT way to show support for Haiti, and to maybe get some national mainstream press at the same time!! The crowd would EXPLODE!!! Waht do you think Kevin?

I knew there would be drawbacks to TNA bringing in Hulk Hogan. On the positive side, you get the most recognizable and charismatic figure in wrestling bringing you guaranteed publicity. The negative side is that Hogan is all about Hogan. He will do things that he likes. Some will be good for TNA, some will be bad. The Nasty Boyz are bad. Bubba is even worse. He adds nothing to the show and is costing Jeremy Borash, one of the more entertaining characters in TNA, air time. His Haiti comment is only a sneak peek behind the curtain of this low life. There will be far worse to come and if TNA is smart, they will quickly cut their ties, whether it upsets Hogan or not.

Kevin this starting to send like sour grapes. Are you mad that Hogan and Bischoff have not called you to come back too? You dont like the show dont watch it. Its a pretty simple concept. I am an avid Bubba listener and love his show but he does nothing for me on TNA. I think what he is trying to say is we have enough of our own problems here to worry about Haiti and I agree with him. If that happened here who would help us? Its time for the U.S. to realize we cant save the world . Hell we cant even save ourselves

RESPONSE FROM KE: Yep, you got me. The reason I'm calling out a guy who said "f--- Haiti" is because of sour grapes. If I don't like the show, don't watch it? Brilliant. That should be TNA's new slogan. Instead of "Cross the Line" it can be "Turn the Channel."

As much as I can identify with the thought of doing more to help people in our own country first, this is not the way for BLS or anyone else to express it. When tragedies happen it's the norm that the United States sends some form of aid.

Just a classless thing for him to say, which is about what I'd expect.

Ugh. Bubba is really horrible on TNA, which is kind of surprising to me, because he has had some decent interviews with wrestlers on his radio show from time to time. But he needs to be Adamle'd as soon as possible.

I started a Facebook page because of this and the fact that he adds nothing. Check it out and maybe help me spread the word? Thanks man. Really well written article. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=257558041911

Kudos to Awesome Kong for proving Twitter can actually be useful. I got to meet her at a CWA event a few years ago and she was incredibly nice to everyone there. As for BLS, if this guy is TNA's idea of 'entertainment', then I'm glad i no longer get the Spike network... and I was thinking that even before hearing about this incident

BTW, nice work on the blog! My wife and I enjoy it as we don't get to catch many of the weekly broadcasts these days.

What a douchebag, these shock jocks are all the same. They ridicule people that are helpless and bully them without mercy, then the minute they are helpless they beg for mercy. Pathetic.

I agree Kevin. Human loss and disaster should never be ridiculed no matter where it happened.

I can't stand the guy either. Where does he come off making a comment like that. I would have loved to have shot him at point blank. Forget about the bounty the US has on bin Laden use it on BLS. Awesome Kong might play a heel on TV but at least her heart is in the right place. Besides, I'd rather listen to Christy Hemme then this fat jerk.

To Ballz Mahoney and Chad: Go back to the a-hole you came from.

Bubba's been suspended without pay, which was why he wasn't at the PPV. I don't think that's enough, though. I think he should be fired.

It's not always what you say, but how you say it. It would be one thing to say "we have enough problems of our own, so we can't afford to worry about what's going on in Haiti". I wouldn't agree with that statement, but I would respect the person's opinion. For somebody to say "f*** Haiti" though, is like somebody saying "f*** New Orleans" after Katrina. It's something you just don't do because people are dead, dying, crippled, starving, just living a nightmare. They deserve sympathy.

"the mean-spirited, sophomoric shock jock shtick just isn’t for me."

Then why do you go on Nestor's show every week?

RESPONSE FROM KE: The minute Nestor says "F--- Haiti" I will stop doing his show.

BLS - what a tool. End of discussion.

In other news, EXCLUSIVE info about new wrestler debuting at Genesis...first there was Curry Man, now there is Soup Dude...http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8465109.stm

Has Bubba apologized? Nope. In fact, every comment he makes is putting his foot deeper in his mouth. I'm a Bubba fan but when he started talking like this on his show, I was disgusted and contacted him many times. Like all the rest of us outraged.

I have made my comments at
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/328145-bubba-the-love-sponge-crossed-the-line

Since so many of the posts have chosen to go the political route, I can't resist. I wonder if those defending Blubber's comments that the U.S. can't afford to help Haiti are the same people who have supported spending endless amounts of money on a foreign policy of aggression. Yes, our government wastes so much money it is sickening, yet we keep voting in the same Democrats and Republicans who are responsible. But, spending to help the suffering people in Haiti is an expense we should be proud to make. It casts our country in a positive light, and overshadows the clowns like Blubber who is an embarrassment, not only to TNA, but to the human race.
Enough political ranting, back to wrestling, which is my escape from the harsh realities of this world! Thanks for your blog, Kevin.

LMAO! I wasn't going to comment on this thread at all, until I got to this: RESPONSE FROM KE: Yep, you got me ... if I don't like the show, don't watch it? Brilliant. That should be TNA's new slogan. Instead of "Cross the Line" it can be "Turn the Channel."

That's awesome! I'm going to borrow that one for my friends that attended BFG and now they're constantly, "TNA is awesome, WWE sucks." They're already jumping off the bandwagon after Genesis.

To Mr. Ballz Mahoney. You are NOT a student of history. Just because you read a Dr. Strange comic book with Brother Voodoo sacrificing virgins does not make you knowledgeable of Haiti's past. As a TEACHER of history, I have studied extensively the problem of Haiti. Many of the problems in Haiti are a direct result of U.S. intervention in the past 150 years. We have taken over the nation multiple times and supported dictators that killed tens of thousands. This is not my opinion or some liberal attack of America's foreign policy, it is historical fact. Read a book!

As for helping Haiti, are you a human being? Are we supposed to let millions of people suffer because we think they wouldn't help us. The may not have the money but I'm sure they would send whatever support they could. How do I know this, because after 9/11 some of the poorest countries in the world sent prayers, and moral support our way. They recognized our humanity and sympathized with us. But stating you as a human, with your moronic response, gives you too much credit.

Eck, through your blog I started liking TNA. Now with the WCW rehash and idiots like BLS, I don't know if I'll be following it.

RESPONSE FROM KE: I'm taking the high road on this one.

High road?? Really???

You could have taken the high road by simply not using a blog to call people names to elevate yourself. Didn't you learn on the playground that putting others down doesn't make you any better?

Yeah, high road my butt.

RESPONSE FROM KE: High road.

It looks like we are all going to get our wish.

According to this http://pwinsider.com/article/44399/tna-personality-told-hes-not-needed-in-production-meeting-leaves-tv.html?p=1 Bubba might be on his way out the door.

Can I get a collective amen?

tbqh, I've only ever listened to Bubba's show because I'm an Edge mark and he has chosen to do all of his most recent update-y interviews there. And though I know he's a shock-jock and all, his comments are so consistently offensive that it can take quite an effort to sit through ten minutes of his program. I can recall him at one point calling Edge a "retard" after congratulating his girlfriend on getting a degree in special education...

I understand that TNA is trying to go in the opposite direction of WWE's more family friendly approach, but I think they can do better than just throwing things up and hoping they stick.

I'm stunned that there were STILL negative comments toward you Kev in this post. This one is especially hard to grasp.

On sort of a random note, will there be any comments from you on the "changes" implemented by Hulk Hogan in the Impact Zone?

RESPONSE FROM KE: They're coming.

Bubba The Love Sponge is an idiot = Comment of the week period

Except for his comeback with the Rock, I began to think Hogan was boring by Wrestlemania 7 (That horrible hippo like match with Sargent Slaughter.) There are only so many times a guy shaking his finger at a bad guy and throwing 3 punches and a leg drop can get me on the edge of my seat. (And I was one of the few cheering for the Rock at WM18)

Fortunately I'm in Australia and am completely unfamiliar with "Bubba the Love Sponge." My question is how is he connected to Hogan? Why would Hogan associate with someone like that?

Looks like TNA is already trying to distance themselves from Bubba:

http://www.iconvsicon.com/2010/01/18/bubba-the-love-sponges-controversial-remarks-strain-relationship-with-tna-wrestling/

Thank God...

To Ballz again: Really- go back to the a-hole you came from.

He's a moron for making this comment. I know a lot of people are thinking along the same line as he does, but fortunately, though, they're not stupid enough to say it out loud.

It's BTLS, not BLS...

Bubba already retracted him comments and apologized. He has also been assaulted by Awesome Kong and is now contemplating legal action.

I guess all of you short sighted people think we should help the whole world, while NO ONE ever helps the U.S. Let's go ahead and send more money out of our country. I mean heck we'll just print more and de-value our dollar more and more. Oh and by the way, let's bring them all here to compete for more jobs that Americans are having trouble finding as it is.

I believe in karma. But how is helping people that will always turn around and hurt you with what you gave them good karma? It's not. It is the definition of insanity.

According to CNN, 15% of Americans are having trouble putting food on their own table. Anybody coming to our aid? I didn't think so.

Sorry if a big population of Americans are having trouble finding sympathy for others, but it is a little hard to right now.

My question for all of you very short sighted bleeding hearts is, who are the idiots?

Awesome Kong punched him in the face for his remark about Haiti.

Are you outraged by my comments? Too bad, I’ve been outraged by your actions for the past few decades. The Haiti disaster just gives me an opportunity to call out all the "charitable" hypocrites. I mean if all you really care that much about the human condition, then why not step up and help the people of Baltimore City that have lived in a disaster zone for 30 years? Teenage boys, women and children are being robbed, raped, and killed right down the street on a daily basis. You don't have to go to Haiti to see where charity is needed. If you care so much about the people of the world, why not start with your neighbors? You can’t sell me on the fact that you are a charitable people if you allow your neighbors to live in hell.

MITZI, ECK, and anybody else that wants to take me on can cry loudly about Haiti while they continue to ignore the disaster zone called Baltimore. From where I'm sitting, you've all turned your backs on Baltimore for over thirty years.

Just think, if you did your part for the past year or ten years, how much different would our City look? Thirty years of prioritizing every other cause besides saving lives in Baltimore, and we continue burying a generation every year. If the bodies were left on the streets would you care more? What will it take for y’all to wake up the horrific reality a Baltimorean confronts everyday? Haiti just gives you all another excuse to turn your heads away from your brethren for this week at least.

Somebody will get shot, robbed, or raped today in one if not several Baltimore neighborhoods, and what are you doing about it?

Please, spare me the fake outrage. If you don’t care about your neighbor, then don’t think I’m going to believe you care about Haiti because you say you do. Actions always speak louder than words.

I will broadcast my freedom of speech from my hole known as Baltimore all day everyday.

And, for “the teacher,” put your money where you're mouth is. Go down to Haiti, and see how the locals treat ya. I hear they got lynch mobs down there now to greet you.

Although you should be safe; they tend to like baby sacrifices more. Why should I read a book when all I have to do is google it, and I proved you wrong. What school did you go to again?

Don't deny the fact that Haitians cannibalize and perform human sacrifices. It's all right here.

http://www.wehaitians.com/disturbing%20revelations%20of%20human%20sacrifice.html

RESPONSE FROM KE: One thing we definitely agree on is the right to free speech, so I hope you at least appreciate the fact that I am posting your comments.

TNA just needs to get rid of BLS. Honestly what is the upside of him being there? As far as Hogan and his washed up buddies, I fear a repeat in history will occur. (Fall of WCW) except this time, it will be TNA.

I wonder how "Terry" will save BLS' job.

Sorry about this Eck, don't mean to politicize your post any more than it has.

@ Ballz. You are relying on what I'm assuming is an editorial of a now-defunct newspaper that lasted only a few years, that is best known for it's Arts section? I guess the several books about Haiti that I've read are lacking to that solid source you have.

Some Haitians practice what is commonly called voodoo, but most are Catholic. The term Voodoo has been given negative connotations because of pop culture. Yes, there are sacrifices of animals, but human sacrifices? You gotta have better proof. The Supreme Court does allow sacrifices to take place for religious purposes in America also. That's my cultural lesson for today.

As for Baltimore being a disaster zone, do you or have you lived in Baltimore or did you just watch The Wire? The problems don't just occur in BMore, but all over the country. And the problem can't be fixed by any person or persons because it is systemic, meaning the systems are screwed up.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, the infant mortality rate is high, the life expectancy range is in the 40's, and it has a corrupt government. Their systems are screwed up more than the U.S. But when a disaster devastates an already unstable country, putting millions of lives at risk, once again the human factor needs to come out.

I do wish I could help more. But unfortunately I cannot. But I will keep sending prayers to the Haitian people and those helping the tragedy because that's what humans do.

I did make a mistake on calling the New York Sun now defunct and lasted a few years. Sorry about that.
