Awesome Kong reportedly KO’s Bubba The Love Sponge
OK, this is my fifth post in four days on Bubba The Love Sponge. I’m hoping not to have to write too many more.
By now, I’m sure most people have heard the reports that TNA star Awesome Kong (Kia Stevens) beat up Bubba The Love Sponge during the Impact taping in Orlando, Fla., Monday for his offensive remarks about Haiti. Both of them were sent home, although Kong was at Tuesday’s taping.
With everything I know about Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo, my first thought when I heard this story was that it was a work to keep the Internet Wrestling Community buzzing about TNA and BTLS. I would hope, however, that Kong – who initiated a campaign on Twitter to raise money for the earthquake victims in Haiti – would be above such a thing.
BTLS does need to get his story straight, though. Didn’t he say on Monday that he was told not to come to the production meeting? He didn’t say anything about getting into a physical altercation. At 11:32 a.m. he tweeted: “I’m headed home. My agent is coming to Orlando to deal with mess.”
However, on his radio show Tuesday, BTLS acknowledged that Kong went after him at the taping: “She came in on me and sucker-punched me right on my left cheek, and I was like, ‘What's going on?’ ... then she came out me again, hit me again in the mouth, and she goes, ‘This if for Haiti! This is for Haiti!’ and I'm like, ‘What is going on?’ Finally I put my left hand out and pushed her away from me, and she comes at me again and I just cover up, because I cannot fight back on a woman. Not only will I be fired from TNA, which I probably am, but my radio career is gone if I take a woman out.”
Hogan, who was on the BLTS show, said: “I tell you what, after what happened, if you had clocked her you’d have got away with it. What nobody knows, and this is the real truth, that there were certain people there ... she should get off the property, she should be fired immediately, that’s it. It was so violent. You could have actually lost an eye, you could have had your teeth knocked out. But, to give you your [credit], you are the one who said not to fire her.”
Assuming the incident is a shoot, I wonder what Bubba’s Army thinks about their hero getting his [butt] kicked by a woman?

Comments
"but my radio career is gone if I take a woman out" Seriously? Does this guy really think you can take out Kong in a fight?...

That is pure gold.
Posted by: Sean | January 20, 2010 1:55 AM
Kev, you're just turning into a BTLS mark. You can't get enough of him!
Hopefully the 6th in 4 days is his termination notice
Posted by: al | January 20, 2010 1:55 AM
Hogan is no stranger to making insensitive comments about tragic events either. The difference is he thought he was making them in private. Hogan did great things for pro-wrestling 20 years ago, along with Vince McMahon who knew how to market him and capitalise on it. Hogan is now a disgrace to the business and BTLS hanging on his coat tails is a pathetic sight.

Keep Em' Coming Mr.Eck.
This whole BTLS story just made my day :)
I don't mind another post about him.

AWESOME!!!!
The best wrestling news I have heard in a decade. If he had any testicular fortitude he would challenge her to a cage match. Love to see him get potato'd.
Where can I contribute to the Awesome Kong Defense Fund?
Posted by: Bring back the WWWF | January 20, 2010 4:07 AM
Just when i thought this whole affair couldn't get any more bizarre.
BTW I'm tipping that even if BTLS wanted to take on Kong he'd end up sat on his arse.
Posted by: John | January 20, 2010 4:24 AM
Well he didn't really get his "[butt] kicked" by a woman, he didn't fight back. No matter how big of an A-hole he was for his Haiti comments, it gives no one the right to resort to physical violence.
This is what I don't get about so called "equal rights". If it was Awesome Kong or any other woman for that matter who tweeted "F Haiti" and a dude started punching the heck out of her "for Haiti" would he be lauded as a hero?? Of course not! No one should be punching anyone especially for these circumstances, and by the sounds of it, BTLS wouldn't have been totally out of line to punch the b***h back.
Just my 2 cents.
RESPONSE FROM KE: I did not laud hero as a hero, nor did I say that I condoned violence to settle a score.

Oh my God I love it. Too bad she didn't kill the b---- dead.

I listen to Bubba on a fairly regular basis. And usually when he gives his daily ridiculous, over simplified, close minded points of view I tell myself that not unlike Rush, he's just saying that for the ratings. Half the time Spice or somebody else there even calls him on it, and they all goof on him for making the statement. But this Haiti thing is different. Unfortunately a number of his listeners also not unlike Rush, don't pick up on the satire of his ignorant comments. They don't realize these statements are made with a measure of tongue in cheek. These morons are actually pumping their fists to this staged stupidity. Cultivating ignorance for the sake of comedy is one thing. But calling an entire race of devastated people a bunch of stinky Haitians who should drowned in the ocean for his amusement goes way over the line. And "F*&^ the Haitians"?! Wow! That's not appropriate on any level. I'm glad that chick kicked his fat ass. I'll listen to the show long enough to hear him eat his words and apologize to these poor people. I wonder what his sponsors think about all this
Posted by: Kong's bitch | January 20, 2010 6:20 AM
Let us all hope that TNA does fire Awesome Kong so that the WWE can hire her! Just imagine a showdown between Kong & Phoenix!
Posted by: Din | January 20, 2010 7:05 AM
1. That's not a woman
2. Getting sucker punched is not the same as getting your butt kicked.
3. If you are in Bubba's Army your primary concern should be the constant drooling and throwing of feces.
RESPONSE FROM KE: Eric, we often disagree, but I always appreciate your unique take on things.

"Assuming the incident is a shoot, I wonder what Bubba’s Army thinks about their hero getting his [butt] kicked by a woman?"
Don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if Stevens were able to kick a lot of our butts. She's pretty big! Outweighs me by almost ninety pounds, so if she put all of her weight into a punch and it connected, I would not really want to be the target of that punch.
Fights in locker rooms have been started over less, so I can't completely fault Stevens, but as much of a douche as Bubba's proven himself to be I still wouldn't blame him if he tried to fight back. Or hauled ass.
The thing I really don't like is that Bubba's now acting like a victim who supposedly did nothing to provoke such a vicious attack. And while I don't usually approve of responding to words with fists, no Bubba, you are not just some poor innocent victim. You talked about people this woman cared about, people who were dead, and said "f*** them". If saying something that offensive to a person doesn't make them lose all self-control and take a swing at you, then nothing will.
Posted by: Rob Brown | January 20, 2010 8:06 AM
I hate to sound "holier than thou" but if TNA is indeed using the Haiti earthquake situation as a means to gain attention, then I am done with this company forever. It is absolutely sickening to think that the lives lost and the people trapped in rubble could be seen by some as a way to increase their profit margin. I hope I am wrong about all of this.
Posted by: TheCoz | January 20, 2010 8:55 AM
good for her. after reading Hogans comments right here I think WWE programming is looking better to me all the time he's an idiot and i don't think i want to watch WCW the latter years eventhough I think calling them WCW like is an insult to WCW because i don't think TNA will ever make it to the mountain top their closer to then original ECW.
Posted by: frank from dundalk | January 20, 2010 8:58 AM
Here's the problem with TNA: you had to say, "Assumig this is a shoot." The writing in TNA is such that I can't tell what's "real" and what's part of the story. A little consistency and clarity would be nice.
If Bubba's comments are a shoot, shame on him for his controversial statements about Haiti. But, if they're part of a storyline, shame on TNA for basing an angle off of the tragedy in Haiti.
Posted by: Matthew | January 20, 2010 9:24 AM
Hogan's comments are almost as ridiculous as Bubba's.
Posted by: Don | January 20, 2010 9:50 AM
Kong is now my hero(ine)!
Posted by: AMC | January 20, 2010 9:51 AM
Come on, brother, Haiti was just a negative place. Because that's all it was, brother, negativity. And god, brother, laid some heavy s--- on it.
As for you, brother, I don't need your negative attitude either, brother. That's why I surround myself with positive people, brother, like Scott Hall, Sean Waltman, and Bubba the Love Sponge, brother.
Kong, Eck, Haiti... we don't need 'em, brother.
Posted by: Alvaro | January 20, 2010 10:17 AM
Good for Kong. We can only pray someone recorded it and will post it on YouTube.
I am really surprised that BTLS was even hired by TNA after the reporting of the whole Angle, Jerret, and Karen deal.
RESPONSE FROM KE: His buddy Hogan wanted him in the company. Period.
Posted by: Dale | January 20, 2010 10:34 AM
To paraphrase Billy Joel, she'll never be a woman to me, but Kong will always have a special place in my heart for punching out that blowhard!
Posted by: LarryB | January 20, 2010 10:52 AM
If it's real, good for Kong.
If it's kayfabe, this is one of the most disgraceful shoots of all time.
Is "The Semi-Rise and Sudden Fall of TNA" available for pre-order yet?
Posted by: Frank King | January 20, 2010 11:08 AM
Is this TNA's idea of garnering interest in their product? If so they are failing miserably.
Posted by: Kevin | January 20, 2010 11:15 AM
She should be fired.
Posted by: mrejr8234 | January 20, 2010 11:43 AM
Kevin, I think you are missing part of the story. If this is a shoot and that truly is Hogan's opinion, what kind of message does that send to the locker room? Doesn't sound like Hogan is out there to protect TNA's talent since he pretty much throws Kong under the bus here. The whole thing is so unprofessional, if its not a work.
Posted by: Matt | January 20, 2010 11:48 AM
Oh and what would you have done, Kev? Kicked the crap out of her? Would you have squashed her? Hell if it is bad as reported then he would have been correct for dropping her like a bad habit. So he takes the high road and didn't hit the woman and now he is the bad guy or a pansy? Again she should be fired. I havent donated anything to Haiti nor do I plan to is Kong gonna show up and punch me in the face?
RESPONSE FROM KE: If you say F--- Haiti, she might. As for what I would have done, I wouldn't have said anything so offensive to be in that situation.
Posted by: mrejr8234 | January 20, 2010 11:50 AM
By association with Hogan TNA is being destroyed quicker than anyone could have imagined. Within weeks they are now in a situation where if it is all real, the company is seemingly supporting the idiotic BTLS just becuase he is Hogan's friend or if it is one big storyline, they have lost all morals.
Employees at TNA must be praying that Dixie Carter soon wakes up before the company is ruined. Hogan is a great asset but the last few weeks show that he cannot be given freedom to do whatever he wants. He is a wrestler who will attract fans to TNA but not a businessman.
Posted by: Rexel | January 20, 2010 12:04 PM
TNA needs to axe BLS immediately. The last thing they need is this kind of negative publicity and he'll never contribute anything to the show. These shock-jock jerks mistake 'freedom of speech' for job security, and that is NOT the same thing. He's free to say what he wants... and a company is free to fire him for being a disgrace and an embarrassment to them.
Hogan's comments are rather ironic; wasn't he sued for injuring a commentator years ago (radio or TV host, i forget which) while another wrestler laughed and egged him on? And I somehow doubt there was any danger of BLS being able to take Kia out
Kia may indeed get fired as well, but it could be a blessing in disguise. Let WWE pick her up and she can laugh all the way to the bank while TNA crashes and burns. Don't get me wrong, I WISH TNA would succeed. However, if their idea of taking the next step is giving BLS a mic and bringing back the likes of Scott Hall and the Nasty Boys, well, I fear it's only a matter of time before they self-destruct.
Besides, who doesn't want to see a Kong-Phoenix program? That promises to be, well, Awesome :-)

Kevin , I understand your need to blog about such matters , but I think that the old saying applies here " any press , is good press."
So while you , I , and others can't stand the guy , the controversy alone will be cause to draw more attention to the guy .

Assuming any incident you hear about during the Bischoff regime is a shoot is a very dangerous thing.
Posted by: Elevation | January 20, 2010 12:30 PM
If I was Awesome Kong, or in fact anyone in TNA who took offence to the idiot's comments, I would've done the exact same thing. I never watched this Bubba guy when he was in WCW, so I'm not that familiar with him, but from watching him during his short time with TNA, I can honestly say that the guy is fat, useless waste of space.
And another thing, what the hell is Hogan playing at? How can a guy who was the childhood hero of so many kids (myself included) around the entire world turn into such a nasty, seedy old man? Saying that Bubba would have gotten away with it if he struck a woman? What a sick thought.
I thought Hogan going to TNA was supposed to be a good thing. All it's brought so far is ridiculous match outcomes (Sean Morley beating Daniels at Genesis) and out of shape old has-beens like the Nasty Boys taking up air time that should belong to workers like AJ, Daniels, Joe, Morgan, Wolfe, Red, Pope, Lethal, Creed, Homicide, Hernandez, Beer Money, ODB, Abyss, Kong, Hamada, Wilde, and even the Beautiful People! I'd much rather see any of those performers than any ex-WWE guys who were in their prime twenty years ago trying to ride Hogan's coat tails.
In my eyes, Hulkamania is on life support, and may be dead sooner rather than later.
Ok, rant over.
Posted by: Paul | January 20, 2010 12:56 PM
I think Hulk Hogan is sucking up to his friend Bubba the love sponge. and is only mad because TNA release him after the careless and heartless comments he made about Haiti. especially after TNA ask Florida residents to help aid Haiti victims. theres no way Dixie Carter wanted to fire Awesome Kong. and you know what
I understand why Awesome Kong punch him and the money she has raised is amazing it's really feel good story. I'm all for freedom of speech but something's should not be said. not like the F with Haiti when a estimated of 200000 deaths has happen in a matter of days
Posted by: Allen Nelson | January 20, 2010 12:59 PM
Elsewhere on the show, the idiot refers to Kong as ‘that b*tch’ and a ‘fat piece of sh*t’. He later goes onto say: “She’s not even Haitian, she’s a black girl from LA.” Erm…? He says that he believes the whole attack was probably twelve seconds.
ProWrestling.net is reporting that Kong is in Orlando and will be working tonight’s television taping, after being sent home yesterday. *Sigh of relief* According to Jason Powell, the lockerroom are firmly behind Kong.
Bubba the love is massive idiot
Posted by: Kelly | January 20, 2010 1:10 PM
Please for my insanity dont mention Bubba the Love Sponge Square Pants again .. If I was a card carrying member of Bubba's Army I would have shredded, burned, flushed it down the toliet. If Hogan truly did say what he did shoot or no shoot he is a bigger idiot than I originally thought - of course anyone punching someone else in the face repeatedly could take an eye out or make someone lose teeth - but isnt wrestling a physical sport. Just like when good Ole' JR took a Stone Cold Stunner you didnt see people yelling and screaming for him to be fired. Bubba just needs to shut up and go away ... far far away so that no one ever has to deal with his talentless act.
BTW do you have Hogan's #, it seems if you are his friend no matter how in shape you are or arent he will give you any job you want. Maybe its time to suck up to Hogan and see if he can get me a job in WCW i mean TNA and I can be the next AJ Styles.
Posted by: Brian | January 20, 2010 1:48 PM
Yeah clearly all the worries about Hogan's cronies were right on. This does not bode well for TNA. If the company supports Bubba, then I'm done with TNA till they go bankrupt.
Posted by: MechanicalBull | January 20, 2010 2:44 PM
What on earth is Hogan saying?! Fire Kong?! Yeah go ahead with that & just give her away to the WWE. How is an on-air personality that's been in the company for less than a month more important than the most dominant womens wrestler in the biz since Chyna? Yeah go ahead & fire her. Kong & Ezekiel Jackson would be the scariest mixed tag team of all time btw.

If you read the transcript of the conversation BTLS had with Hogan on his show about the incident, Hogan comes off sounding like a pot-stirring child, telling BTLS that Vince Russo put Kong up to it, and he should go find Russo and confront him. They both also try to sell the idea that BTLS would've kicked Kong's butt easily if it wasn't for the fact she's a woman. Please. They both are shameless morons, who further validate my opinion that they will do more to sink TNA than to help it.

RESPONSE FROM KE: If you say F--- Haiti, she might. As for what I would have done, I wouldn't have said anything so offensive to be in that situation.
Well if she does then not only will I drop her but I'll have he dumb, ignorant a-- arrested. Brother!
Posted by: mrejr8234 | January 20, 2010 4:47 PM
She should probably be arrested for assault as well. Since we are in the age of equal rights and such.
Posted by: mrejr8234 | January 20, 2010 4:52 PM
He probably didnt fight back because he would have gotten beat down worse than he did.
Posted by: david pettyjohn | January 20, 2010 5:15 PM
Seriously ? TNA You hire someone right after a tragic event & says eff them? This right after WWE does their whole "visit the troops" hoopla? I was hoping this transition was going to go smoothly but this is more like velcro..everything bad seems to sticking..does TNA need to beat WWE or can't they just be a strong #2 ? Because it seems like the new gang is going to ask for too much investment..Nasty Boys? seriously? However ...who is in the better spot Bubba or Kong? Bubba could sue the company...

"Assuming the incident is a shoot, I wonder what Bubba’s Army thinks about their hero getting his [butt] kicked by a woman?"
so if you were in his situation, you would have knocked her out?
you sound as dumb as you look.
RESPONSE FROM KE: I wouldn't be in his situation, so we'll never know.

Why is anyone surprised he got whipped by a woman,it's not like he's a man. It would have been better if someone much smaller than him whipped him,at least the shoot/work would have been better hell i'd be afraid if Kong, that is one strong woman. Christy Hemme whiiping his ass would have been much better, that way his imaginary manhood could be squished, like a double cheese in a plate in front of the aforementioned BLS.

tell them you want Bubba fired, and for Hogan to apologize for defending him.
Posted by: MechanicalBull | January 20, 2010 8:48 PM
Several people have posted that they want to see Kong get fired and go to WWE. I don't. Remember a while ago when Beth Phoenix disappeared from TV for a while? And then it turned that WWE didn't have a problem with her, but that they just wanted to focus on "swimsuit" divas for a while. Well, Kong is great performer, but if Phoenix isn't a "swimsuit" diva, then Kong definitely isn't. That's why it's good to have two viable companies; the performers who don't fit in or fall through the cracks at one company (like Foley and Austin at WCW in the early-to-mid-90's) can find their place at the other. Kong might have a brief run, like other monsters in the WWE, but over the long run they would not feature her as well as TNA has.
That's why I was really excited about TNA possibly making a push towards being more competitive with WWE. The company had a high point for me at BFG, and it made me overly optimistic when the Hogan and other announcements hit. It hasn't worked as well as I would have liked, but for all their flaws and all the bad omens of incoming Hogan cronyism (Nasty Boys, BTLS, Hall), I still think they are the more exciting company to watch right now. They still feature wrestling styles you don't see on WWE anymore and the show is all over the place. WWE is the much more professional organization, but it can be very vanilla. TNA is great at times and a trainwreck at times. But we all have to admit there is a certain guilty pleasure in watching a trainwreck.
Posted by: J Newbs | January 20, 2010 11:05 PM
Ugh...this is just garbage. For what its worth I really do hope this is a legit story andKong really did punch this douchebag in the face.
Unfortunatley I have that feeling that its a work, which sucks. What the hell happened to TNA? Bonaduche, Bubba, who's next, Mancow?
If any of this leads to Kong beating up Brooke Hogan in a match then it'll be well worth it.

Posted by: tyson | January 21, 2010 1:50 PM
Nope Kev, don't think it was a shoot. I think Kia really wanted to hurt BTLS (or just plain B.S. for short). Kia did raise alot of money for Haiti victims and she should be highly commended for that (never heard of Hogan or any other TNA folks doing anything like that for Haiti) and she obviously takes that situation seriously. In her defense, Kong is very sensitive outside of the ring and if you follow her tweets and streaming videos, then you know that she is definitely above doing a shoot involving negative comments about Haiti.
Besides, BTLS probably had it coming - he hasn't even offended me and I'd like to kick his butt just for being on the planet with me!

You people are haters! Awesome Kong should be booted out of TNA. If anyone was to hit their co-worker they would be fired on the spot. Bubba should not have said F Hatia, but there is freedom of speech in this country. So, get a life and stop hating and marking out to Bubba and fat nasty awesome Kong...

You have to agree that is is rediculous to gove some much money to a country that is just a bunch of thugs. The country crumbles and they take that opportunity to rape, steal and murder...we give them money and they brun the American Flag. WAY TO GO BUBBA. I am glad to see someone has the balls to say what we are all thinking. Plus, not fighting back is very different from getting ones butt kicked.
