Hart Dynasty gets a rub on Smackdown
No, The Hart Dynasty didn’t defeat DX for the WWE unified tag team title on Smackdown Friday night, but I didn’t expect them to. Losing to Triple H and Shawn Michaels in the main event, however, is certainly a lot better than losing to Cryme Tyme.
Not only did Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith have a competitive match against DX, but they also interacted with them and Chris Jericho on the mic. That’s real progress, and you have to believe things are only going to get better for THD when Uncle Bret makes his imminent return to WWE.
Other thoughts on Friday’s show:
As expected, Batista interfered in The Undertaker-Rey Mysterio world heavyweight title match. It looks like there will be a triple threat match at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Jan. 31. ...
The good news (at least for a DX fan such as myself) is that DX can now appear on both Raw and Smackdown. The bad news is that Hornswoggle can, too. ...
Did we really need another recap of Little People’s Court? I’ve got two words for ya: Fast forward. ...
Speaking of fast-forwarding, there was a squash match on the show between Cryme Tyme and a couple enhancement guys. I suppose the only reason for it was so Cryme Tyme could toss Christmas gifts to the crowd. ...
As silly and juvenile as it was, I have to admit that I laughed at The Big Show fart joke. I have to agree with Michaels: Flatulence humor is always funny. ...
Another gem on the mic from Jericho. He said he was “banished from Raw by malefactors.” ...
The eight-man tag team match that saw John Morrison, Matt Hardy, R-Truth and Finlay defeat CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, Dolph Ziggler and Luke Gallows to open the show was entertaining, especially the flurry at the end when guys were hitting their finishers in rapid succession. It came as no surprise that Ziggler was the one who did the job. ...
It struck me as funny watching Finlay come out to R-Truth’s “What’s Up?” It’s not exactly “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” ...
I kept trying to figure out who the guy dressed as Santa Claus was. According to pwinsider.com, it was Heath Slater of Florida Championship Wrestling. No wonder I couldn’t figure it out...
In response to a question about Maria winning the Slammy for Diva of the Year, Michelle McCool said, “What has she done?” It’s hard to argue with that one.

Let's see: the way the main event was booked, one member of DX (you don't get a prize for guessing which one) would sell for several minutes before they would get their inevitable victory. I guess that HHH couldn't give his pal, Shawn, a little Christmas present.

I was really hoping for a Hart Dynasty win...I know there was no chance, but it could create so much impact before the return of Bret Hart. I can't help but wander if this is the beginning of a feud or just a squash (that's what it seemed to me), and that Bret will be exclusive to Raw...I would hate that, but it wouldn't suprise me.
I had such high hopes for Taker vs Mysterio but it was a par match at best...I think the Undertaker is past his prime and needs to retire. He'll be missed, but he's not in great shape at the moment.
"I’ve got two words for ya: Fast forward"; brilliant, I could see The Miz or Jericho saying something like that; hope they read this blog! And yeah I agree Hornswoggle needs to go.
Michelle Mccool is not a favorite of mine by far, but everytime she's on commentary I enjoy it, she has great wit...or she's simply being herself, either way I find her arrogance and vanity entwined with her humour quite entertaining. But enough with Piggy James already! That's just bad taste and not even true.

Michelle McCool has a heck of a nerve calling Maria an "underfed redhead". That's like Hornswoggle calling Rey Mysterio short.
RESPONSE FROM KE: That's a great line, but I think I've heard it somewhere before.

I don't watch alot of smack down, i knew about the "Piggy James" what thoughts do you have on it. have heard it could be punishment for her wanting to do things outside the WWE. To me it is cruel and an insult to those that are over weight which includes myself.

DX is horrible I thought their run in '06 was brutal with the whole Vince loves cock stuff and burial of the tag division as well as the feud with The Spirit Squad toss in 1000 unfunny skits and even waterboarding sounds preferable add in Hornswoggle in '09 and about a billion more unfunny skits and it's even worse. Dx hasn't been cutting edge or controversial since '98. I get you LOVE hbk BUT COME ON SERIOUSLY.
Posted by: graves9 | December 26, 2009 7:24 PM
I feel bad for hbk playing a crony to a guy that hes a million times better than. Seriously HHH isnt as bad as he was from 02-04 but hes pretty bad. i wish he went away.
Posted by: groot | December 26, 2009 7:27 PM
honestly what reddeming qualities does HHH have as a wrestler or on air character? when has he put anyone over anyone? hes done nothing but bury Jericho for ten years. since Austin and Rock left and he took over as the top guy ratings ppv buys and attendance have all gone down. if he wasnt vinces son in law he would have been pulled from the top of the card 5 years ago.
Posted by: david | December 26, 2009 7:31 PM
Nobody has ever been used as hard as HHH. Not Hogan not Austin not even The Rock, Bret Hart or Bruno or undertaker or even Nash. The results speak for themselves. He was a heel that showed no ass and a smirky smartass babyface thats almost never bothered by anything and shows no weakness.
Posted by: ted | December 26, 2009 7:35 PM
With a big tag match like the opener shouldn't the heels have used the music of the guy with a belt?
Okay, the initial Piggie James stuff was dumb, but at this point I'm really finding the women's division the most compelling title picture on the show. The emotion feels real and the facial expressions from Beth and Michelle were great at the end. Granted, it doesn't hurt that the alternatives are A) Rey Mysterio serves as an extra in "Undertaker vs. Batista XIII", B) John Morrison feuds with a guy he doesn't like because of his accent, or C) DX treads water until the new year hits and it's 1997 again.

Not even going to comment on Hornswoggle appearing on both Raw AND Smackdown, but Triple H is a scumbag. He buried Hart Dynasty on the mic by saying nobody cared about them, and even after they laid out Jericho, he acted like it was nothing special. Then, he barely did any selling during their match; Michaels did the selling as usual. For someone with as limited talent as Triple H, this is just unacceptable.
McCool and Striker on commentary were hilarious, I thought.

Doesn't say much more the upcoming title programs when your 3 main champions are on tv for a total of 5 mins this past week...
Posted by: eee | December 26, 2009 9:38 PM
Get rid of HHH, he's the worst on the show and hornswoggle is unbearable and so overexposed. god i hate wwe right now if not for the young talents like kofi kingston (not sheamus), i would never watch their programming. but kofi, cm punk, morrison, miz, christian, etc. give me enough entertainment to keep tuning it.

pushed i mean.

pretty boring episode of smackdown. as it was easy for me to choose a favorite moment = the hart dynasty on mic with jericho (except the dx parts)
plus ziggler back in the ring - showing that he can easily be top stuff.

what people seem to miss is when triple h gets pinned, its a big deal.
we all know hunter is always kept strong, but he still draws and gets no real blacklash from the fans.
maybe the 'real fans' need to pull thier head in out from thier arse. this isnt 1999, of course wwe arnt going to be going as good as then, thier still going good with hunter as a top guy.
and ill say again, when hunter puts over a rising star such as morr or drew,it will be better for them then going over someone who loses constanly like jerico, or edge.

Kevin - didnt know where to put this but I wanted to mention the passing of George Michael. When I was younger, and before we had cable, George would show highlights of Cap Center matches during his spots in the newscasts. His on air partners Jim Vance and others would always have fun with it. I also remember George introducing the main event at a Cap Center show I attended once - Hogan vs. Iron Sheik, right in the prime of Hulkamania, right after he won the title. The loudest crowd reaction I have ever been a part of.
Anyway, a fond goodbye to Mr. Michaels.

The week's Raw and SD offerings offer perfect justification for DVR'ing all WWE weekly shows. I can't remember the last time I watched a non-PPV show live. The appearance of recaps (especially where they're re-capping something we all saw before the last commercial break), movie plugs, Abe Washington and Hornswoggle definitely signal fast-forward time. I'd rather see a solid hour of WRESTLING, even if it means mostly squash matches, than the two hours of Dreckswoggle we've been subjected to recently.

What has Maria done? How about been smoking hot?
MARIA #1

I agree with all the triple H bashing. It's just been too much of this guy on our TVs. He's not very entertaining in the ring in my opinion. He's great on the mic but the material is lame. I think HBK is awesome though.

Wow, what I feared would happen when DX won the Unified Tag Titles happened; they are spreading their unfunny shenanigans to Smackdown, and the brought HIM! This coming after another horrendous Raw, one so bad that I vowed to stop watching Raw and instead focus on Smackdown because that was where the real wrestling was, or so I thought. Looking at the preview for Friday's episode, I said to myself, "Wow! What a good card with the exception of Cryme Tyme squashing the jobbers and I won't have to worry about stupid Vinnie Mac skits!" Boy was I wrong.
Watching DX now is sad. Watching Shawn Michaels devolve from the Heartbreak Kid to a 40+ year old guy engaging in frat humor with another 40 year old guy is sad. DX harking WWE products isn't making me want to buy them and them bringing Horny to Smackdown is absolutely horrible. But so long as those DX glowsticks keep selling, Vinnie Mac will shove DX down the throats of every viewer.

What has Maria done? Appear in the upcoming season of Celebrity Apprentice.
Apparently, that's the qualifications for winning Diva of the Year.

D.H. Smith's suplex oh Triple H was very impressive! He held Triple H for a while and I think Triple H was alittle surprised. I think a D.H. Smith Triple H fued would be great in a year or two.
