Bret Hart confirmed to host Jan. 4 Raw?
DirecTV has pretty much confirmed what most us believed -- that Bret Hart will host Raw on Jan. 4, the night a live, three-hour episode of TNA Impact goes head to head with the show.
In the preview for Raw that night, DirectTV posted the following: "Shocking Guest Host Bret The Hitman Hart returns to confront Mr. McMahon."

On Christmas Eve, I watched the 1998 Bret Hart documentary. I was unaware of this Jan. 4 confirmation, however while I was watching I was actually thinking to myself..."this guy will never EVER go back to the WWE!"
I guess I was wrong.

Speaking of Hart, I just got done watching the documentary part of "The Rise and Fall of WCW" DVD and I was dissapointed that there was barely even a mention of Hart's name. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought Hart's time in WCW did not go as planned and his career ended by his stroke and an injury sustained in a match against Goldberg? Maybe I'm wrong but I saw that you said you were going to post your thoughtsd on the recent DVD's, can't wait to hear what you think. I thought it was rather dissapointing actually. If it wasn't for the array of great matches on the dvd I would probably be trying to return it right now.

Thanks for bringing back competition, TNA.

Bret had nothing to do with WCW's rise, and it would be difficult to argue that he had much to do with its fall. Indeed, his time in WCW did not go as he had planned, and that's precisely why I can understand his name barely being mentioned: there just isn't a great deal to talk about.
RESPONSE FROM KE: The only thing that can really be said about Hart in relation to WCW's fall is that the company had one of the top stars in the business -- who was coming off one of the most controversial incidents of all time in wresting -- fall into its lap and they had no idea what to do with him. WCW probably would have suffered the same fate ultimately, but it's another example of the company having no clue and making decisions based on backstage politics.

Goodbye, TNA ratings. Hello, watchable Monday Night Raw.
The only downside to this for the WWE is that half their audience won't know who Bret Hart is.. and they will think he's a big meanie for messing with their heroes DX.
With that said, this might be the first 4+ rating in a long time, and in all reality should blow the Donald Trump show out of the water, in terms of viewers. It probably won't because of the Fiesta Bowl, and the idiot branch of the IWC that thinks TNA is wrestling's savior (that is Jericho, fools). Even so, I may actually pay some attention to Raw now.

New meaning to the term "never say never" in pro wrestling.

There's a lot missing from that recent WCW dvd.

I think TNA could be in trouble now for this episode because everyone is gonna want to see how bret is gonna go from just being a guest host to being in a story line for the next 4 months which is probably a shame because i am hoping that TNA will have better matches but who no's

Ok, anyone see a major swerve coming here where Hart hosts Raw and then abandons the show for TNA ala Hogan? That would be "Impactful".

For several months, we (smart marks I guess) have had to choose between a very polished product with a talented roster that wasn't written for us (WWE) and a szichophrenic, low-budget alternative that looked more like we want a wrestling show to look. With one of the greatest wrestlers of all time and a paragon of integral wrestling on the horizon, we are all justifiably excited. But what are the odds that Raw changes to be more like Stampede Wrestling? It has to be close to a 0% probability. Jon's post is good- Hart is an outsider beyond the memory of WWE's target audience. The best outcome for which we can hope is one where he elevates the Hart Dynasty and gets an insane amount of heat.
Oh, and pleeeeeeeease don't wrestle. Please.

Good point, Christopher...most of the 9-year-olds in WWE's audience wouldn't know who Bret Hart is. Welcome to the PG Era. If Vince really wants big ratings, he should bring in Hannah Montana or the cast of "Twilight" to host on Jan. 4. I'm sure the kids would love to see DX tangle with the pasty vampire and his tag team partner the shirtless werewolf. Besides, it would be hard to explain the Montreal S@#%job to all those impressionable youngsters in TV land without using some salty language.

While there may be a lot of younger fans who won't know who Bret Hart is, it will attract the older former fans that abandoned WWF in the older days when he was still there. The fact stands that there is a lot of buzz about The Hitman being on Raw, and that will attract an audience that WWE lost along the way because of their PG rating.

Hart or Hogan? No brainer: Hogan is possibly the worst guy on the mic in wrestling history, brother.
While the Hitman was never the most charismatic, you always felt the passion he had for the business, and I think Raw will kick Impact's ass in the ratings. I can't wait to see Bret back in WWE, even though he won't be wrestling.
My preferred long term host would be Jake Roberts though. I believe with his stewardship, TNA would have no chance, as Jake is THE greatest promo guy in wrestling history. He also knows how feuds and angles trully work, and though many young fans wouldn't know who he was initially, they'd damn sure sit up and pay attention the minute he started talking.

Since McMahon and Hart are on "good terms now," it would be wise of the WWE to bring back Hart full-time as a general manager or whatever interesting gimmick than can make of him. Honestly, I would watch RAW more if that were to happen.

The ultimate swerve - Hulk Hogan introduces Bret Hart on TNA on January 4th. Bret says, "Hey Vince, Bret Hart screwed Vince McMahon!"

I'd love to see Hogan introduce Bret as the ultimate swerve but I suspect Vince has made a substantial down payment bringing Bret onto RAW.
