Video: Ric Flair busts open Hulk Hogan at press conference
At a press conference in Australia to hype their matches on the Hulkamania Tour, Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan engaged in a brawl that resulted in Hogan bleeding profusely from the forehead.
It was obviously staged, but apparently the Australian media is a bit naïve, as it was reported in several outlets there that the fight was real. Oh, brother. If Hogan’s bad acting wasn’t a giveaway, the weak-looking slap that Flair knocked the mighty “Hulkster” down with should have been.
Hogan, old pro that he is, made sure to wear a white shirt to the press conference.

LOL! Nothing like grumpy old men slap fighting.

I know we Americans can be pretty jaded, but just how gullible are Australians?

Kev,
The Australian media aren't naive, they're just faking as much as Hogan was.
A story of a staged attack doesn't fill nearly as many column inches or use nearly enough television news bulletin time as a story of a wrestling icon being legitimately attacked.
I'm no fan of my local media but believe me, they're very much playing people like a fiddle on this 'story'.
RESPONSE FROM KE: Interesting theory, but I'm not so sure about that.

White t-shirt + moment of confusion = a work

Hey Kevin-any idea how the ticket sales are for this?
RESPONSE FROM KE: I haven't heard, but I'm curious as well.

I think Bischoff takes the cake for worst acting on this one.

A 68 year old slapping a 65 year old...

that was just pitiful. that slap wouldn't knock down my 2 year old grandson. they should be able to do better than that

I wouldn't say the media is naive down here Kevin, its just they have people with utterly no idea covering it. You would seriously think Hogan would be a bit old to blade by now wouldn't you. I haven't even considered going to the Melbourne show. They would have to pay me to see Flair cut himself which will happen id guess...

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! I really could go on for ever.

If this was done 22 years ago this would be a dream come true. Now it's like an uneventful nightmare.

Eck,
I was there working and both my camera man and I were well not laughing but were a bit disappointed in how weak Ric's punches actually were.
I can see the match being a well how do you put it 'dud'.
As for the Aussie media playing it up well I'm saddened but I think Fox Sports thought it was all a bit of fun.

TMZ.com seemed to think it was real as well. Flair's comment about his ex-wife may have helped put over the 'realism' of it all.
This is just Hulk doing what he does best: Promoting Hulk Hogan. Brother!

My wife was about to buy me a ticket to surprise me, when I just happened to walk in and saw her buying it on-line. WHen I realized what she was doing, I surprised her by saying "NO!!!!" I'm a 25 year wrestling fan and have attended many live events, less so since moving to Australia (only because they're only here once a year)
My wife, who knows nothing about wrestling, thought she was doing a wonderful thing by surprising me with a ticket.
Instead, we're going to see a play together. Trust me, if it were a PPV or a RAW or SMACKDOWN, I wouldn't be going to a play instead!!!

For those asking about ticket sales, as of 5 minutes ago one could still purchase ringside seats in the third row at the show in my home town of Melbourne.
I don't know what such tickets would cost in America, but here they're charging $360 Australian (about $335US) for ringside, down to $50 ($46US) for the nosebleeds.
Tickets have been on sale for a good couple of months so obviously ticket sales have been slow which is not surprising given you can buy ringside seats for the TNA show for $75 less.

Geez! Don't these guys know that they'll be coming back after the tour? How's this gonna do anything but make peeps laugh at TNA?

trust me when i say this, it was a very slow day in the media for us. not thatI'm complaining when wrestling gets on the news (expect when it was chris benoit) but hey I'm going to the sydney show anyway so i expect some bloodshed!

Was that stroke supposed to have busted Hogan open? Did Flair knock out one of his cataracts or something?
This is a bad sign for TNA. Hogan is clearly all about No.1, even blading in an Australian press conference, I mean come on!
Then when he goes to TNA and starts booking himself strong, anyone who jobs to him, or gets laid out is going to look like a clown as Ric Flair can knock Hulky out with a slap.
TNA is actually very strong at the moment, the longer Hogan stays away the better.
Incidentally, Kev, if you havent, you need to check out the main event from Turning Point and the Desmond Wolfe Kurt Angle match. The rest was fairly average but those two were pretty great.

Wait there...Hogan was busted open by one slap and what looked like a a soft punch from the fist of Flair wrapped in his belt. The Australian press is very naive indeed. Bischoff screaming, "What you doin' Ric?!" made the whole thing painful to watch. At least Flair looked better than he did here than in those lame promos promoting the tour.

Come on guys I am sure this would have looked better if the news had aired the entire thing!
There was definitely a lot of name wrestlers there.
What I miss in wrestling is how in the early 80's, NWA and Georgia Championship Wrestling, everything seemed to have a more realistic feel to it. When was the last time you heard of a wrestler being actually attacked for being a heel ala Ole Anderson and being hit with a motorcycle helmet?

Two sad old men who despite being past it, cannot find any relevance to their lives outside the ring. A common problem for wrestlers.
Both legends in their own way, but this is really embarassing.
