Quick hits on ECW

• It was nice to see CM Punk back in the Land of Extreme on Tuesday night’s episode of ECW. Punk was all over the show and came off like a guy who was visiting his high school after having become a big success.

• I liked the main event, which saw Punk and William Regal defeat Christian and R-Truth when Punk pinned Christian. With their stiff styles, Punk and Regal would make a terrific heel tag team.

• The Hurricane and Paul Burchill had a good match. As per the stipulation, Burchill and his “sister” Katie Lea have to leave ECW because he lost. The question now is: Where will the Burchills end up – Raw or Smackdown? I think there may be a possibility that they stay put. Someone else may have already suggested this, but I could see Burchill and Katie Lea coming back under masks to continue their feud with Hurricane. Every superhero needs super villains to battle.

• I think WWE is sending the wrong message by having babyfaces such as Christian and ECW general manager Tiffany refer to Punk as a “nerd” and a “prude” because he doesn’t drink. I thought the Attitude Era was over.

• Shelton Benjamin told Zack Ryder that he should be called Black and Decker because he’s “a power tool.” That was such a lame line, I’ll bet that even Tony Atlas wouldn’t have laughed.

• I think Vance Archer has potential, but it’s going to take some time to get the crowd to care about him.

I didn't think it was humanly possible, but Tiffany just continues to get worse and worse every week. Who in the WWE isn't she sleeping with at this point?

I can't believe we are still having storylines based on Hurricane's identity in 2009

I think WWE is sending the wrong message by having babyfaces such as Christian and ECW general manager Tiffany refer to Punk as a "nerd" and a "prude" because he doesn't drink. I thought the Attitude Era was over.

There's a difference between being straightedge and being CM Punk. Punk wears his sXe with an unbalanced sense of accomplishment, which is as lame as people that brag about how much they can drink.

Choosing to be straightedge without bringing it into every conversation you have won't make you a nerd or a prude. More importantly, it won't make you CM Punk either.

Cmon man,Vance Archer has a "ass-hat" tattoo.Thats just not right.

I like Vance Archer's stiff style, but who decided to describe him as "intense?" He's about the least intense wrestler I've ever seen. He doesn't have the look of say a Snitsky or Mike Knox, and with his slim build and lame tattoos he isn't very physically intimidating. He has talent, but this character he currently has has about as much chance of getting over as Tyler Reks does (no offense, Reks).

I know that heels are never supposed to respond to insults with any remotely good comebacks (because heel turns shut down the part of the brain where wit comes from!), but if that weren't the case then here is what Punk should have said to Christian:

"If not wanting to end up like Eddie Guerrero makes me a nerd, then okay, I'm a nerd."

(It's not epic or anything, but it still would have been better.)

I think Vance Archer COULD have potential because he has a great look and the natural meanness of an in-shape JBL. However, "Vance Archer" is so damn generic and fake sounding, how could the fans love it?

They should try plugging his name into the "Make Me Might" name generator. Once you do that, "Vance Archer" becomes Overlord Vance Archergrim, The Vindicator!

(that website is here: http://makememighty.ca and I didn't make it but it's pretty awesome)

I agree. I know that wrestling isn't just for kids, but the WWE has stated that they are aiming for a younger demographic, and what kind of message is that sending? It's so interesting that 20 years ago Hogan was a face for telling kids to pray and take their vitamins, and now Punk is the most hated heel for not getting arrested for possession?

I don't know what VInce McMahon is smoking these days, but he really doesn't realise how good some of his so called mid-card guys are.

Regal and Christian are as good as anyone on Raw or Smackdown, and deserve shots at bigger titles than the "ECW Title", which is really a joke title, as it's not the real ECW Title.

Christian should be main-eventing for the WWE/World Heavyweight title - he is that good!

And Regal has earned at least one run with a top title with consistently great performances for years.

When Punk was there at the opening segment it got a pop out of me, because I am a huge Punk mark. The main event was good and I actually made me interested in seeing more matches that pit Punk vs. Christian. I know this is totally unrelated but how come WWE can't realize the immense talent they have? They have three guys that are just as over as any guys on the roster (Regal, Punk, and Christian) and what are they fighting for? Look at the other title programs and the only good ones are the "minor" ones. Yeah I think creative needs to take another look because the IC, ECW, and potentialy U.S. title are the only decent title programs out there. The only title contender that deserves to actually hold the title would of course be... Jericho. Sorry for swerving so far off, yeah ECW was great (what else is new). Burchill and Hurricane put on a great match, Archer still needs more time for me to care. I didn't mind to much what Christian said, it is his character to be a smarta**. One last question, who books ECW? Because obviously they know more than the guys on Raw and Smackdown. It would be really disheartning to hear that they are the same guys.

Putting Archer into an actual feud with someone that the audience knows would be a good first step towards getting people to care about him.

Hey, pirates are big these days. Maybe they could bring Burchill back as a pirate!

No, wait...

I can't say it any better than you Kevin, having Tiffany and Christian saying those thing to CM Punk is a bad message since they're aiming to the youth.

I think people should give new guys 2 months before making a proper judgment on a new talent.

Missed Abraham Washington this week :(

Was good seeing Regal and Punk get a victory

ECW is consistently a very good show.

I am sorry to say this, but the novelty of Lauren Mayhew has worn off. The syllables that she chooses to stress just don't hit the right notes with me: "Vance Archerrrrrrrrrr!" That's a minor complaint, though. This episode was the most consisently good sixty minutes of ECW that I have seen in awhile.
