« Comment of the Week | Main | Ben Roethlisberger scores for Raw »

October 6, 2009

Raw is Roethlisberger

Well, I’ll say this much about Raw guest host Ben Roethlisberger. He was only the second-most obnoxious NFL quarterback on television Monday night.

No one has more go-away heat as far as I’m concerned than Brett Favre, who led the Minnesota Vikings to a win over his former team, the Green Bay Packers, on “Monday Night Football.” What is it about guys named Brett (or Bret) who can’t get over themselves or let go of a grudge?

But I digress. Back to Roethlisberger.

Let me preface my comments by saying that I bleed purple – of the Baltimore Ravens variety, not the Vikings – so it’s hard for me to be objective about anything that involves the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I have always thought that Roethlisberger had an annoying personality, and his appearance on Raw did nothing to change my opinion. With that being said, however, I will grudgingly admit that the Steelers quarterback did an adequate job as host, and he clearly was having fun interacting with WWE talent.

All things considered, his appearance could have been a lot worse. Instead of just bringing his nondescript offensive linemen with him, Roethlisberger could have brought that smiling goof Hines Ward.

Other thoughts on Monday’s show:

It was announced that WWE champion Randy Orton and John Cena will face each other yet again at the Bragging Rights pay-per-view on Oct. 25. Not only that, but it will be an Iron Man Match. So a match-up that people are tired of seeing is guaranteed to go an hour. The good news is that it will be final meeting between Orton and Cena – at least that’s what was said. The Hell in a Cell match at Sunday’s pay-per-view should have been the blow-off match. The problem, of course, is that WWE has done such a bad job of elevating talent on Raw that there are no fresh opponents over enough to face Orton or Cena. …

The stipulation for the Iron Man Match is that if Cena doesn’t win the title, he has to leave Raw. It was made clear that he would not have to leave WWE and he could go to Smackdown or ECW (yeah, right), so I don’t see why having to depart Raw would be a big deal to Cena. Most of the top stars have gone back and forth between Raw and Smackdown anyway. …

Speaking of which, I’m not really buying into the premise of the Bragging Rights pay-per-view, in which stars from Raw will compete against stars from Smackdown. There have been so many roster switches over the years that the notion that wrestlers have any loyalty to a particular brand is a stretch. ...

The main event, which saw DX defeat unified WWE tag team champions Chris Jericho and The Big Show in a nontitle match, was entertaining. It seems unrealistic that DX – particularly Shawn Michaels – would be able to wrestle one night after taking such a beating at Hell in a Cell, but I guess it would have been hard to have a Raw main event if DX, Orton and Cena all took the night off. …

Did I hear Michaels say that he had staples in his head? If so, I guess something must have fallen on his head backstage, because I sure didn’t see him bleeding on the pay-per-view. …

I was right about The Miz winning the U.S. title from Kofi Kingston – I was just 24 hours late. They had a good match. Miz has really come a long way, and he deserves a title run. Kingston dropping the belt might actually mean that he is headed for bigger things. We’ll see. …

How weird was it to hear the “Monday Night Football” theme music on Raw while “Monday Night Football” was on another channel? …

There appeared to be a significant number of Steelers fans in the crowd, but Roethlisberger did get some boos when he first came out. By the way, props to the two Ravens fans who were on camera all night in the front row wearing Ray Lewis and Willis McGahee jerseys. …

There’s probably a joke to be made about Roethlisberger booking a Diva Bowl and doing crotch chops, but I’ll let somebody else do it. …

I never would have believed that I could ever find Mickie James, Kelly Kelly and Maria unattractive, but then I saw them wearing Steelers jerseys. …

James was the star of the Diva Bowl, as she nailed WWE women’s champion Michelle McCool with a DDT and scored the winning pin on Alicia Fox. …

I thought it was funny that after taking a neckbreaker from Layla, Kelly Kelly sold her back instead of her neck. …

During the Diva Bowl, Jerry Lawler morphed into a more PG version of the lecherous character he played (or was it a shoot?) during the Attitude Era. He said that if he were in the ring with all of those divas, he’d be called for holding and illegal use of the hands penalties. I was waiting for him to say something about there being a ring full of tight ends. …

I’m hoping that Jack Swagger’s declaration that he will not lose a match the rest of the year means that he is actually going to be getting a push. …

So after saving Chavo Guerrero saved Hornswoggle from Chris Masters last week, Hornswoggle returned the favor and then promptly began directing crotch chops at Guerrero. Could WWE make Guerrero look any more like a tool? …

Looking ahead to next week’s guest hosts, who in the blue hell are Nancy O’Dell and Maria Menounos?

.... the "guys named Brett" line was very clever Kev !

Congratulations, WWE: You've already lost my money for the upcoming PPVs. I am NOT paying to see Orton/Cena.

I really don't give a rats ass that its the Final Encounter...this feud is boring and it's old.

So if your wife wore a Steelers jersery would she cease to be attractive to you as well? ;) Yes Brett Favre is ridiculous for flipflopping, but Ric Flair stayed until he was how old? and he wasn't nearly as good as Favre still can be. Seriously, turn a football post into another dig at Bret Hart, wow, you're becoming as predictable as an Orton/Cena PPV main event.
BOOOORING!

RESPONSE FROM KE: If my wife had a Steelers jersey on, she would no longer be my wife.

Kev:

Good review - I'm pleased you weren't that hard on him...I agree as a steeler fan he did an adequate job...I didn't quite understand those ratbird fans in the front row though...oh well!! By the way if this bragging rights ppv is supposed to be Raw vs. Smackdown why is one of the events Orton vs. Cena? And have you heard when the Rock might be guest hosting Raw? not sure if you answered that previously..

RESPONSE FROM KE: I think Bargging Rights will be kind of like Hell in a Cell in that not all of the matches will be Raw vs. Smackdown.I would guess that Rock would host Raw when his next movie comes out.

I vaguely remember her doing a superstar-to-superstar with someone back in the day... here it is:
http://www.wwe.com/inside/superstartosuperstar/exclusives/mickienancyodell

It was pretty entertaining, though there were actually a few Ravens fans at ringside last night.

I don't what was weirder: The MNF theme on Raw, or on MNF they had Derrick MARTIN's name with Derrick MASON's photo.

Kev, do you find it as ridiculous as I do that WWE is holding a pay-per-view that is based around brand loyalty, yet last night's Raw had divas from Smackdown, last week's Smackdown had 6 Raw superstars in the main event, and last week's ECW had Morrison and Ziggler on the Washington show?

By the way, love the blog.

It would have been very realistic if Hines Ward appeared and he did a Pearl Harbor job (a little Gorilla Monsoon lingo) by hitting Big Show while he wasn't looking. Just like he does to any defensive back who isn't near a play.

I'm always amazed that Ravens fans who "bleed purple" spend so much of their time hating the Steelers instead of just cheering on their own team. Baltimore is an extremely immature town whose people just want to hate and be hated ... by anyone, I don't think it matters to them.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Don't throw stones if you live in glass houses. I have been at my share of Ravens road games and also been around plenty of fans from the opposing team at Ravens home games and I can say unequivocally that Steelers fans are the most obnoxious I have ever seen. Cheering for their team is never enough. A lot -- but not all -- have to try and get in your face and taunt you.
In contrast, I was at the Titans-Ravens playoff game in Tennessee in 2000 when the Ravens upset the Titans on the way to the Super Bowl. They were classy -- congratulating Ravens fans and saying that they hoped the team went all the way.

I can't figure out where they are going with this Hornswoggle / Chavo thing either. I hope they end it soon, though.

Speaking of making people look like tools, are they ever going to do anything useful with Santino? Who did he tick off, that he's been designated "class clown"?

This will not be the last of Cena-Orton. In order to make their next meeting even bigger they will wrestle each other on a tightrope tied between two skyscrapers with a pool of electric eels, sharks, and alligators below. Orton will get to use nun chucks and Cena a battle axe.
They keep making each new Orton-Cena match more "dangerous" and add stipulations hoping we'll still be interested and buy the PPV. But the bottom line is the same. It's still Cena vs. Orton.
I only watch Raw now during a few MNF commericials.
Kev,will you be addressing the Undertaker/Punk rumor? I'd like to hear your take.

Dude:
6 Lombardi's. Ben has (2) and I'd bet on more to come.
You can bleed purple and wear purple jerseys 24/7, but you'll NEVER see 6 Lombardi's in you lifetime.
Criticizing greatness is just inane "whining."
To the Steelers, the Ravens are just the old Cleveland Browns. Now go back into your fantasy world of "pro" wrestling.
Oh, and in the future when you visit Canton, make sure to stroll through the Steelers "wing" and say "hi" to that Smiling Goof.

A few thoughts about Raw:

-Why in the world would Triple H let Michaels sit in the Walls of Jericho all that time, reaching out for a tag? Why not just come in and break the hold? Duh.

-Ben's a tool.

-Santino was hilarious when he threw the falg on the Diva's after gettting slapped.

-Ben's a tool. So are his lineman.

-Maria Menounos and Nancy O'Dell are hot. Very hot. But guest hosts? Yikes. That show is gonna suck.

-Oh, and Ben's a tool. ;-)

"What is it about guys named Brett (or Bret) who can’t get over themselves or let go of a grudge?" Lol. I was on point with Cena vs. Orton having one more pay per view match to blow off their feud. I find the Miz ANNOYING but I admit the Miz vs. Kofi Kingston match was the match of the night. As far as Chavo, I don't think he see's himself being used as a tool because just recently he posted a comment on his twitter defending his storyline and said it wasn't about wrestling anymore but entertainment. I don't find his storyline with Hornswoggle entertaining at all.

RESPONSE FROM KE: BTW, Chavo was bombed when he posted that tweet.

I thought this was an entertaining show overall. The Diva Bowl and the Divas' interaction with Santino were pretty bad, though.

"Did I hear Michaels say that he had staples in his head? If so, I guess something must have fallen on his head backstage, because I sure didn’t see him bleeding on the pay-per-view."

I thought Michaels said he had a plate in his head.

I thought I heard Cole and Lawler say that the winners of the matches at Bragging Rights would be the ones competing in the cross brand match. Did I hear them incorrectly? I can't imagine the PPV not ending with the Iron Man match. I also wonder if the stipulation for Cena to leave Raw is a nice way to avoid having Cena on Raw when The Rock hosts.

Raw was a bit too cheesy and scripted, but i was still entertained. big ben did a good job. hornswoggle must go, he is impossible to watch- santino provides enough backstage comedy for one show. mickie james displayed some good moves, beth phoenix looked like a linebacker. even though i cant stand jack swagger, he has good moves and is a good heel. if he developed a muscular physique, he could main event in a couple years. jericho needs better adjectives to insult the crowd, but he is effective

Relax Kev, don't you know that pro football is rigged like the WWE. Why do I feel like I'm trapped in hell and my punishment is the cena/orton feud. Don't know who nancy o'dell and maria menounos are? you have to watch something else besides vicki guerrero swimsuit dvds.

Roethlisberger did a fine job last night. Some guest host seemed disconnected from the show, however like Shaq, Seth and Barker he was well inserted into the episode.

Be nice if Cena went to ECW its just the kind of swerve thats needed right now.

Giving away DX and Jerishow on tv was a little odd to me but I guess it means that Jerishow will get past them in the end.

Miz winning the title? I guess I can accept it as I am not a big fan and I am not 100% sure he is a house show or PPV draw. He is only good for tv to me.

Look, I am a Steelers fan and I despise the Ravens, but can't you try to be objective for the sake of journalistic integrity?

Perhaps those of you who go on the theory, "Ray Lewis wasn't charged with murder therefore he is a great guy", shouldn't be so quick to make judgment on a case that looks more and more like Ben was a victim of false accusations?

You bash on Hines Ward, Maybe we could bring in classy Raven, say.....Frank Walker who so who is such a man he spits on the Steelers Punter? A goofy grin vs. spitting bum?

With that said you analysis of Raw was spot on and that analysis I do respect.

RESPONSE FROM KE: If I were writing a news story, I would be objective. However, this is an opinion blog. The Steelers are a division rival. I'm just having fun with it.
BTW, I never said I thought Ray Lewis was a great guy.

You summed up my thoughts about Cena/Orton part whatever very well. "So a match-up that people are tired of seeing is guaranteed to go an hour." I said the exact same thing. I also thought Cena's declaration of their feud as "the" feud to be... oh, laughable, I guess. But Cena's hyperbole is just one more thing about his character to hate, I guess.

Wilkes-Barre certainly isn't Steelers country; it's more Eagles or even the Giants. Considering Bragging Rights is going to be in Pittsburgh, couldn't they have held Rothlisberger until they had a Raw closer to Steelers territory?

I am convinced that DX has been reformed for three reasons:
1) to shill merch (naturally)
2) to elevate the next generation
3) to set up WM26 and a feud for the title before HBK hangs it up, whether that's next year or not.

We have seen Michaels take the brunt of the beatings now for several weeks; Trips has been on the sidelines. Much of the commentary last night during their match was centred around HBK's health and his comeback from years ago. Interesting: he's gone from being the iconic showstopper to being very vulnerable and, dare I say, possibly a "weak link" in the team? Who gets fed up first, him or Trips?

My guess is that he goes out in the same way he returned: fighting Hunter in a brutal match to prove he "can still go", while reestablishing his legacy. Let the guy retire with one last title- he's more than earned it.

Last night there were 3 times that I questioned logic:
Randy would not get a rematch after the Iron Man should Cena win because it's their final bout together; however, by the end of the segment, his "you must leave RAW if I win" stip doesn't solve that first dilemma...
Kofi is now introduced as hailing from Ghana, but no commentators have made mention of this change, when being Jamaican was his schtick? And he still wears the same ring gear?
Hornswoggle and Chavo looked as though they were headed down friendship lane...and then Chavo receives a crotch chop? What?

RE: All the title changes- I think this is done in an effort to promote the "superstar" in each main eventer. Multiple title changes means each top-tier guy can say they've held the belt X number of times, and are therefore top quality, big threats to contenders. It just substantiates their top stars (against, say, TNA's guys?).

"Could WWE make Guerrero look any more like a tool?"

The entire business looks like a tool! From the wrestlers, to the matches, to 786 pay-per-views!!!

What an absolute awful state RAW has become. Absolutely unwatchable. There's no tension, no anticipation, no drama. It's become a sad predictable joke that's been going on for way toooooo loooonnnngggg.

And the only two people who are laughing are King and that ABSOLUTE ANNOYING, REPETIVE Michael Cole, who sounds more like a bad QVC salesperson than broadcaster. (I'm sure he's a nice guy, though.)

We wrestling fans can't help but watch - we like it when it's good...Which leads me to...

*Third...

Kevin, you are a good knowledgeable writer. Please be a little bit more critical of this garbage product. You need to start giving letter grades to these episodes. Let me start off: RAW: F!

If you've ever noticed, that 'smiling goof' owns the Raven's secondary.

Even in the off-weeks the Steelers are in your poor aching head.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Hey, I never said that Hines Ward wasn't good, because he is. I just said that he was a smiling goof. He's also a cheap shot artist.

I doubt I'll be the first one saying this by the time the comment shows, but I had to look both O'Dell and Menounos up.

They're with Access Hollywood.

Great.

I wasn't impressed with last night's show but I think WWE got what they were after: about a couple minutes on SportsCenter showing clips of Roethlisberger's skits.

"Could WWE make Guerrero look any more like a tool? "

They could have made him wear a steelers jersey :D

RESPONSE FROKM KE: Nice!

Usual complaints, really... Triple H hardly sells or wrestles anymore. He just gets the hot tag, does HIS version of the 5 moves of doom: the clothesline, the spinebuster, the roid taunt, the kick and the pedigree. Last few DX matches has been mainly Michaels selling for the opponent while Triple H picks up the win somehow.

Jericho jobs again. I don't think Jericho/Show should be losing a tag match clean against DX unless this is the start of a program between them - you don't want the tag champs to look weaker than two singles wrestlers, especially when the tag champs are Jericho and Big Show.

Kev, don't get all p---- because the Ravens got beat by the Patriots and take it out on Big Ben..........

RESPONSE FROM KE: I'm always grumpy after a loss. Gotta bring the passion no matter who you root for.

"Kingston dropping the belt might actually mean that he is headed for bigger things. We’ll see..."

Maybe Kofi will get the big MVP-like push after dropping the gold.

RESPONSE FROM KE: That's what I'm afraid of.

Nancy and Maria are from Access Hollywood, (googled it, sure as hell didn't know it) I think this could rival the Piven/Ken appearance as the worst yet. I could be wrong, I think I heard (vintage) Cole saying that they are fans, but I highly doubt that.
It is getting so old watching Jerishow job all the time, it's nice to see them win when it matters, but every week, Jericho has to come out looking weak, how is anybody supposed to take him seriously? It seems to me like Jerishow has a hard time maintaining heel status, I think a lot of people actually like Jericho and what he says, still see a lot of signs for him and not a lot of boos, could just be me though.
Even though he is not my favorite, elevating Kofi would be good, he has a lot of athleticism which would be fun to watch in the main events, plus he has a lot of fan support.
Based on last night, Cena will be winning the next championship, since he can't leave Raw. So they will need a new heel to battle for the belt, or Cena needs to turn heel (which is unlikely). I can't even think of who would be a heel that could fight Cena besides those that already have fought against him. Kevin, who do you see as the next WWE Champion contenders (heel and face)?
Punk could do it, but that takes another talent from SD, one of Jerishow could do it, but that could break them up, Swagger hasn't been pushed enough even though I think he could be a good competitor. I don't envy the writers on Raw

Screw the Ravens and the Steelers. I personally can't stand either team. This is a wrestling blog not a football game. Vintage Eck. I'm tired of the Baltimore media crying about the Patriots game. I know Brady is a girl but they lost and they will play another day.

You telling me if you saw Mickie James in a bar wearing a Steelers jersey that you wouldn't hook up with her?

Worthlessburger seemed like he was there as a fan not a GM. At least he wasn't doing a Fathead commercial.

And speaking of obnoxious dorks with annoying personalities Jack Swagger may take the cake. I don't see anything in him. He just looks like a big goober in a Kurt Angle wannabe singlet.

Another Cena -Orton match. Yawn...Wake me up when this "great" rivalry is over.

I believe DX will win the tag titles as the seed will be planted for their Wrestlemania match.

RESPONSE FROM KE: No, I wouldn't hook up with James because I'm a married man. However, you make a good point. If I was single, she could be wearing a Steelers jersey AND a Yankees hat it wouldn't matter.

Kev,
As usual, love the page. It's not a blog. It's a sports column!

Maria Menounos is a tv reporter/actress, and is super-cute.

Attended Ring of Honor, Glory by Honor VIII, on 9/26, in New York City. Incredible. Just some great wrestling matches. Bryan Danielson was one of the most natural wrestling talents I have ever seen. It will be interesting to see what the WWE has lined up for him.

Having Cena in an Iron Man Match is like seeing Kane in a Bra and Panties Match. Who in their right mind would want to see that? Maybe I'm being too hard, but it's no secret that Cena isn't the greatest worker in the world.

The only thing missing from the Diva's Bowl was Tom Brady. After Sunday it seems that Brady was wearing a dress so he would fit perfectly in the match. All we needed then was Ray Lewis jumping the rail at ringside and pull the dress off Brady.
As for Bragging Rights, it will be Cena's last match as he will be making another movie afterwards so I'm ready for Orton to win.
WWE seems to have given up on MYP/Mark Henry. I thought for sure they would have another match for the tag titles. But I think the next shot will DX vs. Jerishow.
Don't know what to think about Jack Swagger? Will he got a shot at the Miz for the US title or will they keep it a revolving door? Miz vs. Kofi vs. Swagger
Overall I thought Raw wasn't all that good. I just can't get into anything that involves Pittsburgh.
Now I can't wait til Friday to see if Smackdown will be any better.

I have not been impressed by what I've seen of Cena/Orton on TV, but I will say that the pay-per-view matches have hit the bull's eye (except maybe SummerSam). Getting from one PPV match to the next has been less than exciting.

I have never understood why WWE will book a champion to retain the title on pay-per-view, only to drop it the next night on free TV. That was common in 2005-07, but I thought WWE had broken away from it. I guess not, which leads me to believe there must be some benefit to it that I am overlooking.

I would wager that the brand split is more realistic backstage than on-screen. But that means this next PPV is more geared towards the roster than the audience.

The first problem with the SVR match is that Orton & Cena are not involved, so the "bragging rights" are limited. It's like Survivor Series 2005 where Angle, Cena, & HHH were involved in other matches but Smackdown! put its top talent in the elimination match, so what did it prove? That Smackdown!'s headliners were better than RAW's mid-card? That should be a given.

Anyway, I hope Spencer & Heidi host RAW. ;-) Having sat through that "I'm A Celebrity" crapfest, I know you could appreciate their being involved. They could play favorites towards the heels all night, then get their comeuppance at the end.

RESPONSE FROM KE: If my wife had a Steelers jersey on, she would no longer be my wife. Wow, dude. You really, REALLY don't like the Steelers. Sheesh. Anyone who would make such an asinine comment regarding his significant other and a football team should thank his lucky stars that there was a woman out there willing to marry his football-obsessed a-- in the first place. Get over it, dude. Even the players don't hate each other that much. For the right price, any one of your Baltimore Ravens would put that Steelers jersey on in a heartbeat.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Can't anyone take a joke, anymore?

Geez! Can you and your fellow writers of this paper be any more jealous of the Pittsburgh Steelers? If you weren't, you wouldn't be talking about them so much.

RESPONSE FROM KE: So it's not possible to dislike someone or something without being jealous of them?

RESPONSE FROM KE: If my wife had a Steelers jersey on, she would no longer be my wife.

I lol'd at that

RESPONSE FROM KE: OK, there is at least one person who has a sense of humor. My faith in humanity has been restored.

Hey Kevin
I am more then sure now after the Bret Hart post and now this post that you have turned heel, righteous heel heat more preciously like CM Punk. Its quite amusing. Maybe you need to get back into the writing game for pro wrestling.

I'm a Pittsburgher, Penguins fan more than the Steelers, but I thought Ben was pretty decent. When the O line came out, my first thought was with their recent track record, is that really who Big Ben wants in front of him. One swim move and the Big Show could have an easy sack haha.

But you could absolutely tell Ben is a WWE fan and was having a lot of fun, something you can't say about some of the other guest hosts. I prefer former wrestlers as guest hosts, but if not, I like the hosts to at least be fans and know what they're talking about.

Love the blog though, Kev. Let's keep it to wrestling and lay off the Pittsburgh bashing, it just encourages the rest of them.

I thought Raw was pretty good considering coming off such a "big" PPV. I didn't expect Shawn to wrestle but then the other guys can't quite suck it up and wrestle the next night. Can't risk hurting our precious Cena and Orton. Then again, who would the wrestle.

I have mixed feelings about the Iron Man match but I won't knock it just yet. I didn't think they'd do so hot in the cage but they did. It easily exceeded expectations and it turned out to be one of the best matches of the night despite the lack of blood. So if anything I'll hold my piece and pray that we will not have to endure another Cena/Orton feud for a long time.

I called the DX/Jerishow match. In fact, I call this feud. It's will be so easy for DX to win the belts then lose to a team like the Hart Dynasty. It didn't them long to put Legacy over so the same could be said for the Harts. My problem with this is that Jerishow might have to split.

I don't think HHH-HBK will turn on each other. In fact, I don't see the two of them facing off at Mania especially if HBK is retiring. Everyone knows HBK's only equal in the WWE right now is Jericho. He will retire Michaels if we don't get that Wrestlemania rematch from Taker.

I have decided that Chavo will continue to be what he is. He seems okay with it anyway. (via his Twitter). I like Santino as is and I have lost all hope for the Divas. TNA Knockouts > WWE Divas. I'm sorry.

Yeah gotta love those Brets. ;)

And I miss having Kurt Angle in the WWE:( Good times...

I noticed Kofi Kingston was announced as being from "Ghana, West Africa" instead of Jamaica. Any idea as to why they decided to change that? I know that's originally where he's from, but it doesn't go with his gimmick (dreadlocks, green/yellow/black color scheme, Jamaican styled theme song).

RESPONSE FROM KE: I have no idea why they started announcing where he was legitimately from. Next thing you know they're going to tell us that The Undertaker isn't really from Death Valley.

"i cant stand jack swagger, he has good moves and is a good heel. if he developed a muscular physique, he could main event in a couple years"

What the heck is your definition of a muscular physic?!

Fair enough with your response. Its why I do respect and read you.

With that said, and being a Steelers fan, Ben Roethlisberger could have been replaced by any star athlete last night. It was an unremarkable performance.

I rate it with the Sgt. Slaughter role as host.

@ G - Kevin won't let his wife wear a Steelers jersey , however she is forced to wear a Shawn Michaels t-shirt when ....... uh , nevermind .

Sorry, Kev. I guess I got a little carried away in my post above. It's just that sometimes guys can be a bit too fanatical about their favorite sports teams, and it's kinda sad in a way. Anyways, please accept my apology, and keep up the good work here with the blog. Have a good evening!

RESPONSE FROM KE: No problem, my man.

RESPONSE FROM KE: If my wife had a Steelers jersey on, she would no longer be my wife.

I laughed at that, because that is so the kind of comment my man would make--we argue about football all the time and our teams aren't even hated rivals.

"

Well, I’ll say this much about Raw guest host Ben Roethlisberger. He was only the second-most obnoxious NFL quarterback on television Monday night.

No one has more go-away heat as far as I’m concerned than Brett Favre, who led the Minnesota Vikings to a win over his former team, the Green Bay Packers, on “Monday Night Football.” What is it about guys named Brett (or Bret) who can’t get over themselves or let go of a grudge?"

That comment made my day, I love this blog and the little dig at the obnoxiousness that is Brett Farve (and Bret Hart) made me a happy girl, that and the crack about the Steelers jersey.

Friends don't let friends -- or Chavo -- wear Steeler stuff! GO RAVENS!

As an self-proclaimed objective Ravens fan, I didn't think Ben did too bad........the O-line looked genuinely excited to be in the ring with DX. They played it up well. Now, no more kind words about the Steelers.

Not looking forward to next week's co-hosts............

Bro, you wish Big Ben was your QB...in fact, everyone wishes he was their QB. That being said, I think Joe Flacco is going to be a stud...not yet, but will be...but he will never be the QB that Big Ben is.

RESPONSE FROM KE: When Kyle Boller was here, yeah I'd take Roethlisberger in a heartbeat. I'm happy with Flacco. Will he ever be the QB that Roethlisberger is? Only time will tell.

You find Ben to have an "annoying personality"? Yeah, I would find anyone who beat my team three times in one season annoying.

Re: Jack Swagger

The kid does NOTHING for me. First, his soft voice and subtle lisp just kill him. And something about his mannerism's, it's like he's not sure what to do next in the ring. It's almost as like he's looking beyond the camera at a cue card or teleprompter telling him what to do. I dunno, I know some people say he's a superstar in the making, but I just don't think he has "it."

This is going to be the 11th PPV match between Cena and Orton. Thats not overkill at all.

Never thought that Miz/Kofi would steal the show, great match interested in seeing where they both go from here.

If Swagger does happen to start an unbeaten streak he'll have to beat people other than Primo/Evan Bourne to gain credibility as a Main even threat.

Maybe they'll put the Iron Man match in the middle of the next PPV to allow people to go to the bathroom, have dinner, and take a quick nap...when Orton came out after the Divas match i thought something interesting was gonna happen, but i forgot what i was watching...any chance Cena can go to FCW instead to learn a 6th/7th move.

Guess its obvious who the next Tag Champs are going to be....dont know how there couldnt have been a DQ anywhere from the point HHH broke up the Walls to the end of the match (but im trying to make logic out of something from WWE)
Cole: "you wanna talk about the most dominant team in sports..." Was he talking about Chris Masters and Chavo?

And I wonder if how Santino compares that slap to the face to the one Jim Cornette gave him a few years back in OVW

Any news on Mark Henry? He actually seemed to legit hurt his knee during his match.

Oh and BTW, GO RAVENS!!

"Hey, I never said that Hines Ward wasn't good, because he is. I just said that he was a smiling goof. He's also a cheap shot artist."

------------------------------

Kev, Hines didn't get that way after becoming a Steeler. It starts with his roots as a Georgia Bulldog... GO COCKS!!!

"No one has more go-away heat as far as I’m concerned than Brett Favre...."

If Aaron Rogers' name were Shawn, we would have a spooky parallel, especially if Kevin were a Rogers mark.

If my wife wore a Steelers jersey she would no longer be my wife, well thats sweet there Kev, your marriage requires your wife to goose step to your Ravens loyalty that is what 10 years old now, what if she wore a Browns jersey. Jeez Kev I would expect a much more measured and mature response. If your marriage (sarcastically or not) depends on your wife not wearing a Steelers jersey,my man she should put one on this second and count herself lucky. Cripes I thought Big Ben was a lout, what the h***,are you a young Howard Stern now? What's next you going to bring up a miscarriage on your blog. I'm sure (at least I hope I am) that this was a way lame attempt at football humor, apologize now, and get back to trashing the "Bret/Bretts. Bad Kev,Bad.

Have you guys forgot the hour long TV match Cena had with Michaels? That was enteretaining, why wouldn't an hour long match with Orton be entertaining?

I would be curious to know the ages of those complaining Cena-Orton is boring. Are they over 25 or from the under 25 no attention span generation.

I am the Miz and I am awful. I thought he was going to have him say, I am the Miz and I am from Cleveland but I love the Steelers.

Nancy O'Dell was on the Monday Night Mayhem radio show a couple months ago. She is definitely a wrestling fan and knows what she is talking about. We'll have to see if that comes across when she hosts.

RESPONSE FROM KE: The Cena-Michaels match was awesome. But Randy Orton is not Michaels. And I had not seen Cena and Michaels in gimmick match after gimmick match in an endless feud.

"RESPONSE FROM KE: I have no idea why they starting announcing where was legitimately from. Next thing you know they're going to tell us that The Undertaker isn't really from Death Valley."

Say it isn't so... ROFLMAO!!

GO RAVENS!!!

I'm not sure what they expect to get out of Cena vs. Orton anymore, it doesn't matter what "new " stipulations they add, or how great the promos are in the coming weeks, to get excited for this match up at all, is to get overexcited. We've seen it all before.

WWE is playing the same song on loop, and people are tired of listening, the sixth time in a row, seriously? I mean, I realize that when they get together they put on a nice show, but this redundant booking has all but killed any chance of them putting together a truly great match.

I found it interesting that WWE actually acknowledged some fans were cheering for Orton, something that has really been played down in the past.

Hopefully Kingston will get a push. Yeah, right, and there's water on the moon.

BrothelBurger (as Santino would put it), wasn't bad, in that, I think he only improved what the writers gave him. On the other hand I'm certainly no Big Ben fan, whenever he appears on my television two words tend to pop in my head, one of them is "bag", and let's just say the other one's not "paper".

I got your back Kev, Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, and Maria definitely need to take those jerseys off.

What next Cena and Orton in a Bra and Panties Match enough already move on pleaaaaaaaase WWE. Big Ben was a good guest host.

Being a Cowboys fan I couldn't care less about the Ravens or Steelers, Big Ben did do a good job but dang Eck you had hilarious comments like "If my wife had a Steelers jersey on, she would no longer be my wife" and giving props to the Raven fans XD! And the long response you gave to Karen Hwilka, it's priceless man XD.

I was thinking though.. he brought in his o-line.. if this was a year ago, Santino could have come out and broke through it!

Ok, that DDT by Mickie on McCool was great, and her pin on Rosa was great to! It's too bad WWE has to group the women all in one big group though.

LOL @ Jack in Hebron...good point, Mrs. Eck probably is too busy wearing the HBK Outfits to...um...wherever it is that you were implying...oh this is awkward...
lol.
Does Mrs. Eck read the blog? If so did she laugh at the 'she wouldn't be my wife anymore' comment? Or did she lay the smackdown on you?

RESPONSE FROM KE: Fortunately for me, she doesn't read the blog.

Kev, you're catching a lot of heat right now. Maybe it's time for a swerve and turn heel.

@ Bob, I am 27 and it may be that I have a slightly shortened attention span, but really, I think HHH/Orton was better than Cena/Orton, Cena ruins it for me, his character is lame.

Had to re-paste this for truth:
Usual complaints, really... Triple H hardly sells or wrestles anymore. He just gets the hot tag, does HIS version of the 5 moves of doom: the clothesline, the spinebuster, the roid taunt, the kick and the pedigree.
That is so dead on, especially the roid taunt, lmao.
Also, Michaels did a great job of selling his back, I was actually wondering part way through the match if that was real, maybe it was, who knows.

Kev Mcmanhon might have to take his lumps on some of the storylines so that he can start promoting fresh faces. That is what he did in 1996/1997 he needs to be pushed again sadly there is no Ted Turner/nwo circa 1996 to push him and give him no other choice.Sports Entertainment(pro wrestling) is very stagnant at this point with no growth protental.

RESPONSE FROM KE: The Cena-Michaels match was awesome. But Randy Orton is not Michaels. And I had not seen Cena and Michaels in gimmick match after gimmick match in an endless feud.

Point taken and I probably would agree if I watched those PPVs. From a historical standpoint, what made the 6 1/2 month Sammartino-Zybysko feud that culminated in Shea Stadium work but yet a shorter Cena-Orton feud doesn't work? Is it solely the fact that there weren't PPV's every 3-4 weeks back then so not everyone saw all their matches?

RESPONSE FROM KE: Interesting point. I think Bruno and Zbyszko wrestled three times in three months in Baltimore. It was such a hot feud that it didn't get old. Part of that was that it was unfathomable that Bruno's protege of six years would turn on him. Cena and Orton have being going at it off and on for a few years now.

Hey Kev, Hornswoggle isn't crotch chopping- it's the tadpole/frog splash movement.

Kev, spot on as always. Some things will never change. They are Cena vs Orton, some boring Divas battle royal/throw away match, and Steeler fans crying because everyone does not worship their city and their teams. I guess Pittsburgh is such a great place that all of those fans chose to live everywhere BUT Pittsburgh. It's true...it's DAMN TRUE!!! (Thanks Kurt Angle who also escaped the minute he could!)

Are we stuck with Justin Roberts annoucing both raw and smackdown - surely he's involved in the draft if commentators are!

Bring back The Fink!

RESPONSE FROM KE: No, I wouldn't hook up with James because I'm a married man. However, you make a good point. If I was single, she could be wearing a Steelers jersey AND a Yankees hat it wouldn't matter.

Ah, but Kevin, would you approach her if she was wearing a Steelers Jersey, a Yankees hat AND a Hitman Ring Jacket?!?!

Sorry, couldn't resist.... : )
From a Canadian who thinks your Bret Hart views are justified....

Love it Kev, keep up the great work! I don't understand why people who don't like what you have to say continue to read what you write. Oh well, that one will never be answered.

GO RAVENS!!!!!

RESPONSE FROM KE: If my wife had a Steelers jersey on, she would no longer be my wife.

The Diva Bowl and the Divas' interaction with Santino were pretty bad. I can't figure out where they are going with this Hornswoggle / Chavo thing either. I hope they end it soon, though.

hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
The kid does NOTHING for me. I am the Miz and I am awful.
