The Angelina Love/TNA situation
Angelina Love’s release from TNA is certainly a shocking development and a huge blow to the company’s women’s division.
As first reported Friday on pwinsider.com, TNA released Love due to her unresolved work visa issues. Love is Canadian.
Love was the company’s top female heel and perhaps the best all-around performer in the women’s division. She and tag team partner Velvet Sky – The Beautiful People – were the favorites to win the newly created Knockouts tag team title.
It will be interesting to see how TNA writes her out of the show. Love’s departure is probably bad news for Sky, who may not be as much of a commodity without her.
I suppose that Love would be able to return to TNA if she gets her visa issues straightened out. However, as a free agent, presumably she would be able to negotiate with WWE if it had interest in her. Although judging by how former TNA women’s star Gail Kim has been booked in WWE, Love might want to think twice about doing that.
Before returning to TNA in 2007 (she had a brief stint there in 2004), Love spent a few years in Deep South Wrestling and Ohio Valley Wrestling working under a WWE developmental contract. She was never called up to the main roster and was eventually released.

wow i can't believe TNA released her That would be the equivalent of WWE release Trish Stratus aobut 5 or 6 years ago what are they thinking.

I agree with Frank - Who cares if he Visa is expired? Keep her on the payroll until it gets straightened out. I suppose there is the possible that this is just a negotiating tactic on her point, that she was hoping she'd get fired if she let her Visa expire, but if that's the case, then TNA should sue her to keep her under contract.
I think Love would be immensely attractive - literally and figuratively - to the WWE. Her... appeal... is a bit more obvious than Gail Kim's, and on her end, even if she's being misused in the WWE, I'm sure the paycheck is much, much better. Also, is she the one dating Gregory Helms, or is that the other one?
RESPONSE FROM KE: Velvet Sky was dating Helms.

Isn't the title currently vacant?
RESPONSE FROM KE: You're absolutely right. I think I tried to erase the whole ODB-Cody Deaner story line from my memory. Story is fixed.

Love is not the current KO champion. They do not need to take any belt off of her.
Maybe the dumb blond thing isn't just a gimmick. I would have thought she would have some sort of manager to take care of paper work like this. It's a sad loss for TNA.

Hey Kev,
I think TNA will almost assuredly have her back once this whole thing gets straightened out. But in the article, you mention wondering how they will get the belt off her. She doesn't have a title right now. ODB and Cody Deaner have the Knockouts title and the tag champs tournament isn't over. Just wanted to point that out, so you can correct it if need be.
With her and Sky presumably out of the tournament now, who do you think is the favorite to win? I say Taylor Wilde and Sarita will probably claim the gold.

Another reason not to watch TNA! Hopefully they can get that resolved.
Kevin - BTW, ODB/Cody-Goofball is now the Knockouts champ.

amazing development for TNA the top female gone from the promotion, wonder where that will leave Velvet and Madison now.

I think Traci Brooks is also Canadian (?)..... please Traci keep your paperwork in order . (what's up w/her Playboy shoot being scrubbed ? )
RESPONSE FROM KE: Sounds like TNA may have dropped the ball on that one.

kevin big fan of your work... the story is she has been working with a invalid visa for a few yrs. if its true they 'll deport her and she can face criminal charges and will have to pay back every cent she earned

Doesn't make sense why TNA release someone over visa problems. Why couldn't they just work with her in obtaining a work visa so she could just work. As far as I know there was NO backstage heat on her for anything.
TBP are not TBP with Angelina Love. I understand that Madison Rayne is back in the group. I guess that means that Velvet Sky would assume the role of Angelina and Madison assumes the role of Velvet. I hope that made sense. TBP were supposed to wrestle for the Knockouts Tag Titles at the next ppv. Any guess what TNA is going to do now. Wouldn't make sense for them to drop the match.

Hey Kev. what do you mean get the belt of off her. She lost the belt to Deaner already? Don't you think she would make a good pair with Maryse? Could be a good stable with two former women champs.

I don't think TNA is legally allowed to keep Love on the payroll if her work visa is expired. TNA probably doesn't want problems with the US immigration or whatever, and besides, if TNA lets this one slide, where are they going to stop? What if other non-American TNA wrestlers have their work visas expire?
I think it's probably better for TNA to release her now, rather than having Love's work visa status leaked out later and getting a ton of bad publicity.

Unbelievable. TBP have been part of the group carrying TNA. If it is a visa issue they probably had no choice but to officially release her. Hopefully it gets resolved.

As a Canadian, I am surprised more wrestlers from north of the border haven't had VISA issues. I tried to get a work permit for the States and gave up due to all the bureaucracy.

I'm no immigration expert, but employers who knowing hire and employ illegals have been prosecuted here in Florida, so maybe the release is in advance of charges regarding her expired papers?

Love has reportedly told friends she'll be back in TNA with a new deal before Bound for Glory. She sounds naive since it can take a lot longer to resolve visa issues. The good news is she is not even thinking about WWE. I think female wrestlers on TNA's roster realize they have a great thing after seeing what has happened to Gail Kim. Nobody wants to be a Diva. Plus Love as a top draw for TNA will get a good deal.

Such a shame. She is their biggest star in my view. I really feel they should let her win fair and square as a heel.
What a woman!

I have no idea what women wrestlers make, but I would guess there is a pay differential between the WWE and TNA. Otherwise, why would Gail Kim have left TNA? Could you really blame Love for signing a 2-3 year contract with WWE for the money, get herself financially secure, and then go back to TNA if she wants to continue wrestling?

To me the shocker was reading that a wrestler is suddenly released for something other than drug abuse .
Very interested in seeing how the storyline will be played out, considering I fully expect Ms. Love to make her return to TNA.

I am from Australia and I know from here that if she still had a job and was working while her visa expired that she would find it hard to come back under another visa. I would say that it would be a precaution to ensure that she can come back without any drama.
I would say that TNA would be making sure that every i is dotted and every t is crossed so that she can come back without any problems.

i know angelina from our work together paying dues working indy shows. i hope she gets this worked out and back in TNA. i also cannot believe TNA would release her but the wrestling business is very very cuthroat and lacking in patience!

Regarding Angelina Love, this sounds like one of those situations where the initial story just doesn't tell us enough about what's going on. For TNA to take the drastic action of releasing a top performer, these must be some major league visa issues which put her in danger of being deported and/or put the company in danger of legal trouble had they kept her on.
I won't be surprised to see her come back once she gets her visa situation in order, but I also won't be surprised if it takes several months or more for that to happen.
@jack in hebron:
According to a couple internet reports I've seen, a new editor at Playboy decided that the magazine should distance itself from pro wrestling (no details given on why) and so the Brooks pictorial (which was already shot) is going on a Playboy pay website and the print issue it was scheduled for will have a Farrah Fawcett tribute instead.

Terrible, terrible news for the Knockouts division. TBP is the best stable (well, it was a stable, and hopefully will be again) in the best booked division in all of wrestling.
@ Dave in Parkville: more likely Playboy realized, a little too late, that they did not get the best of the Knockouts. Had it been Velvet, I think she'd still be in print, not just online.

I myself am glad to see Angelina Love go. I wish they'd do the same with Velvet Sky. The opening of the show with Velvet shaking her butt in front of the camera is old and stupid. TNA should have thought twice before doing this.

Lou, you're insane.

I've known friends who have had visa issues, and the fastest I've seen it handled was about three weeks. But that wasn't a full renewal. We really can't guess without knowing the full extent of her situation.
Hopefully she's back soon.

velvet sky should be able to fill angelina love leadership role nicely she won more championships than angelina love especially if she adds the TNA knockout tagteam title to her resume even madison rayne would have won more gold than angelina love
