Quick hits on ECW

• It was announced at the top of Tuesday night’s episode of ECW that general manager Tiffany had been in a car accident. According to various Internet reports, she actually suffered a broken humerus (the bone that runs from the shoulder to the elbow) during a match in the Florida Championship Wrestling developmental promotion last week.

• Yoshi Tatsu got a big feather in his cap when he scored the pinfall on William Regal in the eight man tag match that also involved Christian, Tommy Dreamer and Goldust on the babyface side, and Vladimir Kozlov, Ezekiel Jackson and Zack Ryder on the heel side. Tatsu appears to be getting pushed as the No. 2 babyface on the show.

• The Goldust pep talk before the match made me chuckle. Dustin Rhodes’ career revival is one of the biggest surprises of 2009.

• This was not one of the better Abraham Washington shows. Not even Tony Atlas’ laugh could make it entertaining. The guest was John Morrison, who once again tried to get the “Mr. Ziggles” chant going. I’m begging WWE to stop making Morrison do this. Surprisingly, the “Dirt Sheet,” the wwe.com show that Morrison and The Miz used to do, got a pop.

• Washington said that his show was “critically acclaimed.” He must be reading Ring Posts, because I haven’t seen anyone else ever say anything good about it.

• When Morrison asked Washington what Miz and Dolph Ziggler had in common, he replied, “They’re both white?” I wasn’t personally offended, but I could see where some people would be. What if someone asked Chris Jericho what MVP and Mark Henry had in common and he said, “They’re both black?”

• It’s nice that Paul Burchill was dominating Shelton Benjamin before Benjamin scored the win out of nowhere, but I think it’s a shame that Burchill can’t get any momentum going. He plays his character well and his in-ring performances are consistently strong. Plus, he and Katie Lea make for an entertaining duo. Burchill should be challenging Christian for the ECW title rather than jobbing on a regular basis.

I think that would generate heat. Isn't that what Washington was going for when he said "they're both white?"

RESPONSE FROM KE: That's cheap heat.

I agree with you, Kevin, on the comment Abraham Washington made. I'm an African American, and I found it in poor taste for him to make such a comment. IMO, this only adds fuel to the tension that has seemingly grown between Americans regarding race and what one person can say opposed to what another cannot say. I also had the same exact thought you had regarding the "They're both black." To be honest with you, if Jericho said that, I'd probably laugh.

Ah gotta love that double standard that comes with racism

what a pop at the end of the 8-man tag. you don't see that on the 'A' show. Well you do but its usually artifically created by HHH/Cena becoming superheros.

It was a good idea to bring the IC title guys onto ECW since SD will be preoccupied with the 10yr anniversary, but yeah 'Mr. Ziggles' has to stop....and the writers didnt even bother giving anything for Ziggler to say.

And Zeke needs to work on that 'Davey Boy Smith' powerslam he almost fell and wouldve dropped Christian out of the opposite side of the ring from where they started the move.

Happy to see there giving ECW the night off at HIAC now that storylines are actually developing...hopefully they think about doing the with either the WWE or WHC at the next PPV so that a new challenger can get in there

"What if someone asked Chris Jericho what MVP and Mark Henry had in common and he said, “They’re both black?”
I'm not from USA, so I don't have that "racist alarm" that you usually have.
But Chris Rock said that after centuries of slavery, the least a black brother can have is the right to say whatever he wants about white people.
All kidding aside, Abraham has done a lot of pseudo-racist comments, like that time when talk about the police and said something like "I don't want to be hit by those sticks" (It was on one of his first shows).
He tend to have that kind of lines, and I thinks he uses them to keep himself far from the people.
when he talks about him, he remarks he is black. When he talks about somebody else, he remarks they are not.
Or maybe I just need some sleep.
Great blog Kev.

The only other place I know that likes The Abraham Washington Show is RBR: Weekly Wrestling talk on fanoff.com, but regardless, I love the show, its quickly becoming one of the highlights of my week!

What we need is the return of Gary Michael Cappetta (or whatever his name was) from the earlier days of WCW - remember the days of Paul Orndorff and Paul Roma teaming? He accidentally called Paul Roma "Paula" and that caught on with the crowd.

I think it was unintentional - but it stuck.

Hope Tiffany is okay; I broke my humerus a few years ago (actually, my arm was completely severed mid-humerus, but they reattached it), so I sympathize with her.

Yoshi has some talent, so I'm glad he's getting a push - the Goldust revival (and the support he's getting from the fans) is great to watch.

The "white" comment - unfunny, dumb, but let's not blow it out of proportion. I didn't even notice it during the show, to be honest.

I'd like to see both Burchill's move up the depth chart, but not at the expense of Benjamin. Kev, to your knowledge did Shelton do something to upset the powers that be? It's bad enough he was moved to ECW, but now he's being buried there! Yes, he's horrible on the mic, but the guy is one of the top five workers in the business right now.

What's up with Goldust? Holy crap during the pep talk the crowd reacted huge for him when the camera went to him! Is it possible it's just pre-recorded or is he really that loved by the fans? That's cool though, it's only about the 23rd different time his been on the roster.

"You'll bever forget the name *deep breath* Goldust

Bring on a huge push for Dustin - long been one of my favourites.

As for Abraham Washington can he please be given the Gunner Scott treatment!

After reading the spoilers for this Friday's Smackdown, I hope WWE doesn't have a certain former GM all of a sudden show up on ECW to run the show.

NOTE FROM KE: Rest of comment deleted because it gave away too much.

What gets me about the "Mr Ziggles" thing is that it's not like it's his real name; it's the name WWE Creative stuck him with, and now they are making fun of it. I wonder if they were thinking about "Mr. Ziggles" all along.

I wasn’t personally offended, but I could see where some people would be.

I didn't give the comment much thought at the time, but I can too after some reflection on it. It's like Abe was saying that a white guy is a white guy is a white guy, which is not entirely dissimilar from saying "all you guys look the same to me," which isn't real tactful no matter who says it to whom. If a minority says it to a white person you can make the "turnabout is fair play" argument, but really it's only fair if that particular white person had said that all black people looked the same to him in the past.

It doesn't bother me very much, though. Certainly not as much as when somebody does a promo where they either imply or flat out state that the other guy is gay. (Most recently, Cena telling Randy Orton that after the PPV he'd get no more title shots and just be a guy in his underwear...who hangs out with two other guys, in *their* underwear.)

I don't think Shelton's *horrible* on the mic, although I've heard better. I would've also liked to have seen Burchill pick up the win in that match, because Benjamin's had several victories lately whereas Burchill has had few or none. If Benjamin lost then he'd have an excuse: Sheamus ambushing him before the match. He could beat Sheamus clean next week (and this probably wouldn't hurt Sheamus' push, since he hasn't lost very much since his debut), and in the meantime help to get Burchill over as a heel. Burchill's already got a decent amount of heat from feuding with Hurricane, and now all he needs are some wins.

I love The Abraham Washington Show! ... I'm just playing with you.

What a great idea! I have a bunch of projects that I am having a hard time getting done. So that would be great for me! Love your blog!
