Finally, The Rock is coming back to Smackdown – sort of
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be appearing in a taped segment on the special 10th anniversary episode of Smackdown on Friday, according to wrestlingobserver.com.
It’s always great when Johnson makes one of his rare appearances on WWE programming, and I’m especially glad that he will be a part of this show. After all, the title of the program was taken from one of his most famous catch phrases, and he always used to refer to Smackdown as “The Rock’s show.”
On a side note, I wonder if the fact that Johnson will not be there live will spark John Cena to start his “Rock doesn’t really love the business” spiel. Then again, IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT JOHN CENA THINKS! Ah, that never gets old.
Here’s a fun Rock clip that is especially fitting since the Ravens are playing the Cleveland Browns today.

Comments
on a personal level, i dont disagree with cena.

That was the greatest Raw I ever attended. The only time I ever experienced an audience like there was for that Rock and Hurricane match was when Hulk Hogan came back to Cleveland. The live crowd is nowhere near as fun as it used to be. Nowadays it is just a bunch of screaming children, but back then it was fans who knew how to appreciate what they were watching. Glad to see Dwayne will grace us with his presence, I hope it does not hurt his acting career to once again be associated with pro-wrestling. Maybe he will use it as a tax write off for charity. The best part is though, that 75% probably does not even remember him. GO BROWNS!!!

That clip never gets old, it's amazing how over the Hurricane was after that minifeud with the Rock, that pop was massive. Too bad he was buried by HHH with about 35 Pedigrees.

While I agree that any appearance by "The Rock" on WWE tv is worthwhile, I do not want to see the smiling, happy go lucky Rock.

I thought last week when I read your blog on Bret Hart that it would create a firestorm. I commented about being one of about 3 Canadians wrestling fans who still likes shawn....
All I can say is I hope you don't take all that hate mail personally. I love reading your blog, particularly because I don't usually have time to watch all the wrestling I'd like because of family and other interests, but I always order the PPVs. Your blog helps me keep up with the story lines and when I hear of a very impressive match or promo on your blog, I always youtube it.
You do great work Kevin, and I apologize on behalf of all the angry Canadians who abuse you over your thoughts on Bret Hart. (Not sure how many of those folks with anger issues are American)
RESPONSE FROM KE: I appreciate the kind words (especially after all the unkind ones as of late!). I knew what I was in store for after I wrote the Hart piece, but it comes with the territory.

Well Kevin, that would make Roc.. oops Dwayne Johnson a "hypocrite" in your book as well. He always reminds us how he still loves this business but doesn't show up live even for one night.
Yeah I am a Bret Hart mark. Sue me!!!
RESPONSE FROM KE: He showed up at the Hall of Fame last year. Johnson is anything but a hypocrite.

it will be great to probably see the greatest sports entertainer their ever was i don't think anyone has achieved as much as the rock did in such a short amount of time. I know some of you will get mad but i said entertainer not wrestler like Shawn, Flair, Bret etc. some of you may say what is the difference Rock could do an interview for hours and you not get bored and if you got to see him wrestle than good who cares not knocking his ability in the ring but his mic skills were so great he really didn't need to wrestle and i think makes his wrestling skills underrated. unlike Shawn for instance really good mic skills but after a while please just get in the ring and wrestle same with Bret.

Cena is jealous. If he had a chance to be a legit actor full time like Dwayne I'm sure he would also listen to his agents, peers, etc. and keep a safe distance from wrestling. I'm sure it's nothing personal with Dwayne, it's just good business sense.

I think The Rock was the most entertaining wrestler of all time, Monday Night Raw was the only reason I subscribed to cable back in the day. I think the best Rock video is this one

with the people's strudel. The Rock almost lost it himself when he said "you know the rock makes you wet...with perspiration" lmao, great timing.
I really really miss the days of the king and JR together when the king was the heel announcer, that was part of what made it fun to watch. Now we just have Cole and his big Cole mouth. I noticed it looks like he can't say Vintage anymore, seems like he almost did, but stopped himself, I don't know, could have been a dream, fell asleep numerous times during the last Raw since it was so bad.

Boy Eck you got some guts. The dust is just now starting to settle on the whole Bret Hart thing and you go and try to rile everyone up again with The Rock/Cena debate. Those two subjects always get the most responses when you bring them up.

Bret - thanks for the Strudel clip. That was a top 5 Rock moment.

The Rock was always my favorite, once he left the WWE I began to lose interest and hardly watch/follow at all anymore however I will definitely have to check this out. I only hope that he's able to do something good despite this watered down kid friendly version of WWE

I always get a kick out of this one in Sacramento:

RESPONSE FROM KE: Awesome

The Rock was the GREATEST sports entertainer of all-time. Hands down. Period. Best wrestler? No. But, who cares? He was a joy to watch every single time he stepped into the ring or took a microphone.
Dwayne made the move that was best for his career. Less suitcases, less injuries, and less Vince.
Perhaps, Cena comes off as jealous of Rock, but I don't think that is it either. He is just passionate about the WWE.
I am always impressed by Cena's zeal for the business. People boo him, but it is more of a booking issue than Cena's fault. I know it isn't cool for young male wrestling fans to cheer for a guy like Cena, but I actually feel badly for him, when he is booed. He is a genuine person, and although his character gets on my nerves, I have to respect him, especially his work outside of the ring. He is great with kids, and is almost always friendly with fans. He is a good role model, and I would hope my kids one day have a positive guy like that to cheer for.
In my book both the Rock and John Cena have had stellar WWE careers. And although Cena is less popular, I admire the guy.

The Rock belong at home on the land of SmackDown which he gave birth to. This brand is much greater than Raw and TNA.

I too need to work on my mixing the times I agree with the times I don't when I actually comment.
That being said...pre-taped?? Gee thanks. He made the WWE schlepp all their gear to his house the last time he did a pre-taped. Sure he did the HoF, but he was inducting members of his own family. He sure doesn't go when it's anyone else. It's hard to say it's a schedule thing since he obvious could make the time to go to last year's (though he couldn't stay for WM).
I just have a really hard time believing he still "loves" the business. I guarantee he wouldn't pass a flashcard test of who joined the main rosters since he last stopped in.
I definitely think Rock loved the business and will always love where it got him, but to say he still loves it is like Linda Hogan saying she still loves Hulk. She might a little, but she's still b------ someone else all the time.

Wow... The Rock might make a comeback to RAW as well and that too as a special guest host(At least that's what he said in Smackdown). So finally we'll get a watchable RAW.
