Breaking Point preview

Predictions for tonight’s WWE pay-per-view:

World heavyweight champion CM Punk vs. The Undertaker in a Submission Match: I’m having a hard time figuring this one out. It would be crazy to take the title off Punk while he has so much heat coming off his program with Jeff Hardy, but there is zero chance that The Undertaker will tap out. I’m guessing that Punk somehow escapes with the title tonight and goes on to face The Undertaker in a rematch at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view in three weeks. To get around The Undertaker tapping, perhaps they will do the old passed-out-from-the-pain finish.

WWE champion Randy Orton vs. John Cena in an I Quit Match: All signs point to Cena winning the title. Orton got the better of Cena last month at SummerSlam and also on Raw the past two weeks. Plus, Cena guaranteed victory, and when a top babyface makes a guarantee, he almost always makes good on it. Beyond all that, there’s just no way that WWE is going to allow the words “I quit” to come out of Cena’s mouth.

DX vs. Legacy in a Submissions Count Anywhere Match: Since the show is taking place in Montreal, I wonder if there will be a Montreal Screwjob-type finish with Shawn Michaels on the other end of things this time. It could be explained that Ted DiBiase Jr. used some of his father’s money to buy off the referee. Nah. DX will win.

Unified WWE tag team champions Chris Jericho and The Big Show vs. Mark Henry and MVP: It would be a nice surprise if Henry and MVP won the titles, but I don’t see it happening.

ECW champion Christian vs. William Regal: I suppose there is a possibility that outside interference by Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson could result in Regal winning the title, but I have a feeling that Christian will retain.

U.S. champion Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz: This match was just announced a couple days ago. I can see Miz winning the title at some point, but Kingston is building momentum and it doesn’t seem like the right time for him to drop the belt. This could be a really good match if they are given enough time.

Kane vs. The Great Khali in a Singapore Cane Match: I’m going with Khali in what hopefully will be the blow-off match to this program.

hey kev, one question: is the submission match between punk and taker a no DQ?

I notice you too are a night owl. I also like how you have been injecting humor into your blogs.

I agree with your predictions aside from the ECW title match, of course.

I would love to see CM Punk keep the title b/c imo he is the best heel right now. I agree that the words I Quit will never come out of Cena's mouth. I understand that DX is a popular team but dont understand how Jerishow's match is under normal rules when they are the tag champs.

I sure hope you'll right about the Punk vs. Undertaker finish, I've been thinking the same thing Undertaker tapping out wouldn't be right so him being unconscious would be more suitable similar to Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13. I'd like Punk to be World champion least till Survivor Series or even Royal Rumble it's so cool to hear him announced as "the only straight-edge world heavyweight champion".

Kofi vs. Miz has eased my disappointment about pulling the IC match, but I would rather see both and cut Kane vs. Khali.

I won't be disappointed at all if/when the obvious happens and CM Punk vs. Undertaker finishes in an inconclusive manner. A rematch in a cell with these two seems like a potential classic.

Kev, don't you think that creative is building Orton's legacy (no pun intended) as the heel that weasels his way out of everything to retain, thus building it so that the crowd LOVES whoever beats him? Cena doesn't need that rub, so I doubt he's going to get the title.
The way I see it both heels are going to win in ways that don't hurt the faces. I feel that the I quit will feature a recording (i.e. Rock Vs. Mankind) ,a threat to a loved one or a "referee stoppage". The submission will almost certainly be the scenario you described or some kind of rn-in no contest.

Kevin,

I agree, very tough to see Undertaker tapping or Cena saying "I Quit". Makes you wonder what sort of trickery could be involved in this outcomes. Maybe Punk blocks the ref's view and forces the Undertaker's arm to hit the mat several times, or the ref doesn't see his leg on the rope, etc. Cena probably has the better chance of winning the title in his match, although it's tough to see Undertaker lose in his 1st match back.

I also think Legacy picks up a win here. The younger superstars need some sort of victory to have credibility. They're definitely gifted stars and a win over the older DX tag team won't make HHH or HBK look any lesser at the end of their careers. Enjoy the show!

I don't see Taker getting the gold, seeing as next month's PPV is "Hell in a Cell".

Plus, I see the Orton/Cena match ending like the Blanchard/Magnum T.A. "I Quit" match

Now I'm really confused. When they added the ECW match and dropped the IC one, I guess that made sense for time reasons. But now they add a USA title match? Kev, what do you think is going on here, and what does it mean for Morrison and/or Ziggler?

Re/; the Punk/ Taker match, who do you think will pass out from the pain - Punk or Taker? And how will that kind of finish affect the momentum or either wrestler in your opinion?

I don't share your belief that Kingston will retain the title. Over the past couple of weeks, the Raw booking team hasn't found time for him, so I pick Miz even though his exposure too was limited to Superstars last week. I think that his U.S title reign will come sooner than later.

What about a double tap out for the DX match? One where Cody taps out to a move by trips and Dibiase taps out HBK at the same time in different sections of the arena "at the same time." Gives WWE the dusty finish they need for HIAC

You know, Cena could lose then make an apology to the fans on Raw. Orton interrupts him, gets more heat and make Cena even more of a sympathetic figure. Cena then has to work his way up the ranks again (for once) on a crusade not to let the fans down again, wins the #1 contender spot, then faces Orton at say Survivor series? In the mean time, Orton can be a dominant heel again, making him look invincible (like Cena was). That will magnify the victory even more.

That could happen, but it probably won't even though Orton is definitely the biggest star in the business (I don't care where he is in the PWI 500).

Age of Orton continues!!

YAAAAAAAAY! Tomorrow is my 23rd birthday and my dad said he is getting me Breaking Point as an early birthday president. I can't wait to see Taker face Punk. Long awaited match of mine. I'm sooooooooooo excited!!!!

Can't believe morrison and ziggler have essentially been bumped for the us title match. I just hope the erratic nature of their booking eventually turns into a cm punk style push (remember how wierdly he was booked in 2007/8 before finally getting his big push this year).

Creative will "create" a way for Punk to retain...not sure how though

I believe that sometime will happen to extend the program with the tag titles, therefore it could mean JeriShow could drop them. To down to African American teams in a row???

Tkaer, DX, Christian, Cena...the card seems to be stacked with players that the WWE won't allow to say "I quit". So there has to be a swerve somewhere!

Hey Kev when i first I wanted to comment that I thought that hhh and Michaels might suck it up ( no pun intended) and let Legacy win, with my prediction being that Michaels does the honors. Turns out I was right.

Kev, I just witness Montreal Screwjob Part 2 today. What a way to end a PPV by screwing Taker on his first return match, sigh...........

I didn't watch but having Khali vs. Kane instead of Morrison vs. Ziggler is the reason why the WWE is losing fans by the day. That didn't make any sense at all.

Rather humiliating to showcase two of WWE's bright young stars in a skit with corny jokes and Pat Patterson...was that really necessary to build a feud between Ziggler & Morrison? A match at the PPV would have worked just fine.
