SummerSlam thoughts
As expected, the Jeff Hardy-CM Punk TLC match stole the show at Sunday night’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. Unfortunately, the returning Undertaker stole some of their thunder at the end of the show.
After Punk regained the world heavyweight title in a dramatic match in which both guys really put their bodies on the line, he held the belt up over his head as he stood over the fallen Hardy. Suddenly, the lights went out and The Undertaker’s gong sounded. When the lights came back on, The Undertaker was lying where Hardy had been. The “Dead Man” got up and choke-slammed Punk to give the “WWE Universe” an “Oh my God” moment and a happy ending.
Personally, I think the final image should have been of the triumphant Punk standing over Hardy. It was their moment. Punk had just scored the biggest win of his career, solidifying his status as a legitimate money player. As for Hardy, the match is expected to be his final one on pay-per-view before taking a hiatus, and he went out in a blaze of glory.
I wish WWE would have allowed us to take it all in before immediately establishing the next title program. I understand why WWE would want to put the focus on Undertaker returning rather than Hardy leaving, but I would have saved Undertaker’s comeback for the next episode of Smackdown. By the way, where does Undertaker's return leave John Morrison?
The final moments notwithstanding, I thought SummerSlam overall was a decent pay-per-view.
Here is a match-by-match look at the show:
CM Punk defeated world heavyweight champion Jeff Hardy in a TLC match to win the title: This was one of the better pay-per-view matches of the year, as both guys held nothing back. They took some insane bumps, including a superplex by Punk onto a ladder that was lying flat in the ring. At approximately the 17-minute mark, Hardy went ballistic as he brutalized Punk with a chair, a TV monitor and the top piece to the announce table. Jim Ross said that the enraged Hardy was “having an out-of-body experience.” Hardy laid Punk on the announce table and set up a super-sized ladder. Hardy then hit a spectacular Swanton Bomb off the top of the ladder onto Punk. It appeared that neither man would be able to continue. Medical personnel rushed to the scene, put Hardy on a stretcher and placed a neck brace on him.
At that point, Punk began to crawl back into the ring in the hopes of climbing the ladder and capturing the belt while Hardy was incapacitated. Hardy, however, realized what was happening, threw off the brace and stumbled into the ring. Punk’s look of amazement and disappointment when he saw Hardy back in the ring was fantastic. Hardy and Punk battled on top of the ladder, each grabbing at the belt that was swinging back and forth as they exchanged blows. Finally, Punk landed a kick that knocked Hardy off the ladder, and he seized the belt for the victory after about 21 minutes. Hardy showed tremendous heart in defeat, and Punk finally won a world title in a hard-fought match instead of cashing in Money in the Bank contracts and scoring fluke victories.
WWE champion Randy Orton defeated John Cena: Normally after watching a match like this one – which included three re-starts and a run-in from a “fan” – I would say that it was overbooked. However, I think WWE realized that Orton-Cena isn’t exactly a fresh match-up, so it needed to have lots of bells and whistles. The first “finish” occurred about 14 minutes into the match, when Orton intentionally shoved the referee to get himself disqualified. Lillian Garcia announced Orton as “the winner and new WWE champion.” Classic. Lillian may sing a great version of the national anthem, but she is and always has been an awful ring announcer. She then said that Vince McMahon ordered the match to be re-started. A few minutes later, Orton got himself counted out. According to Lillian, McMahon ordered another re-start. I thought for sure Cena was winning the title after that, but Orton got a three-count with his feet on the ropes. A second referee then came running down to ringside and explained that Orton had used the ropes for leverage, so the match resumed yet again. That’s where they lost me. Since when does a wrestler putting his feet on the ropes constitute a re-start if the referee didn’t see it? Where was that second referee 32 years ago when Bruno Sammartino lost the WWWF title to Superstar Billy Graham?
It finally looked like Cena was going to win when he had Orton trapped in the STF. However, a “fan” suddenly hit the ring and Cena broke the hold as security tackled the guy. At first, I figured it was a drunken anti-Cena fan who wasn’t pleased with how the match was going. It looked very realistic, from the way the fan was taken down, to the reactions of the wrestlers, referee and announcers. It became obvious to me that the fan was a plant, however, after Orton got his bearings and hit an RKO on Cena for the win at approximately the 21-minute mark. It just fit too conveniently into the story line. It was later reported on various wrestling Web sites that the plant was Brett DiBiase, the younger brother of Ted Jr. and a WWE developmental wrestler. I wonder if it will be revealed tonight on Raw that having DiBiase’s brother in the audience was part of Orton’s master plan to hold onto the title. It seems almost a certainty that there will be an Orton-Cena rematch at next month’s Breaking Point pay-per-view.
DX defeated Legacy: Heading into this match, the question wasn’t who would win, but rather the manner in which they would win. Would Shawn Michaels and Triple H give Ted DiBiase Jr. and Cody Rhodes the “Spirit Squad treatment,” or would they elevate them by making it a competitive match. I’m happy to say that it was the latter. With DX’s elaborate entrance and their show-opening skit, all of the attention was on them, while their opponents were basically treated as afterthoughts. That actually worked well with the story they were trying to tell in the match. DiBiase and Rhodes continually beat Michaels and Triple H to the punch, and the announcers talked about how impressive the young duo looked against the two mega-stars. Legacy did everything just short of winning the 20-minute match. With DiBiase and Triple H battling outside the ring, Michaels and Rhodes were both down for the count on the inside. They each struggled to their feet to just beat the count, and were basically holding each other up before Michaels hit Sweet Chin Music out of nowhere for the win.
WWE unified tag team champions Chris Jericho and The Big Show defeated Cryme Tyme: The match wasn’t bad, but I don’t think many people believed that Cryme Tyme had a shot of winning. The finish was well-booked. Jericho had JTG trapped in The Walls of Jericho, but he wouldn’t give up. After JTG finally made it to the ropes, Big Show KO’d him with a punch to the jaw behind the referee’s back, and Jericho covered him for the win. Even though they didn’t win, Cryme Tyme came out of the match with more credibility than they had going in.
Intercontinental champion Rey Mysterio defeated Dolph Ziggler: This was an excellent opener with a lot of terrific counters and near falls. The finish saw Mysterio turn Ziggler’s attempted gut-buster off the second rope into a huracanrana for the winning pin. I really think WWE should have put the belt on Ziggler here, but he once again looked very good in defeat, and the program with Mysterio is getting him over. There was even a “Let’s Go Ziggler” chant at one point during the match. The announcers played up the fact that Ziggler is getting closer and closer to winning the title.
ECW champion Christian defeated William Regal: Unless Christian or Regal are injured, the way this match was booked doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. As Regal turned toward his corner to take off his robe, Christian spun him around and immediately hit The Killswitch for the victory in less than 10 seconds. Too bad. I was looking forward to seeing these two wrestle. After the match, Regal, Vladimir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson destroyed Christian.
Kane defeated The Great Khali: It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but the expectations for this one were pretty low. Kane used a DDT to get the win after Khali had been distracted by Kane grabbing Ranjin Singh.
MVP defeated Jack Swagger: Before the match, MVP cut a great promo on Swagger during a backstage interview. The match was OK, but they were only given about six minutes and I think these two are capable of better. It was a nice clean win for MVP – who pinned Swagger after hitting The Playmaker – but whether it will actually lead to a significant push for him remains to be seen.

Kevin, love the blog and rechecked the site about 20 times today for the summerslam recap to be posted.
Thought last nights PPV was easily one of the all-around best PPV's in a while. The Hardy-CM Punk match was really entertaining with all hard bumps that must be killing them today. Also pretty surprised that rko kept the belt after all of Lillian's restarts.

I have mixed feeling about The Undertaker's appearance at the end of show. On one hand, he is my favorite of the big name veterans. On the other, I agree with you, Kevin: the moment should have been about Punk's victory. That being said, the fact that 'Taker has targeted Punk will hopefully give the latter even more legitimacy in the fans' eyes. As for Morrison, maybe he can interupt the proceedings on Smackown with a "don't forget about me" promo and work a match or two with 'Taker, as well.

Lillian may sing a great version of the national anthem, but she is and always has been an awful ring announcer.
You may know other sports, but when it comes to wrestling you SUCK BIG TIME!

In the interest of killing two birds with one stone, might I suggest MVP being inserted in some form or fashion into the next iteration of Orton/Cena?
The first goal it accomplishes is spicing up the main event at Breaking Point with the second goal being an elevation of someone new into the main event scene. Obviously, it's not as if he'd be expected to win (does MVP even have a submission hold?) but it would show some effort in getting over someone new and he is coming off a "big" win at Summerfest. I'm no MVP mark by any means, but I'm terribly desperate to get a little new blood in the main event so I'll take him. (And I actually think that I might have had the same suggestion had Swagger won last night).
The scenario even allows for an obligatory Cena/MVP vs. Orton/Legacy match the week before the next PPV.
Now, who's got a semi-legit reason why MVP should be inserted? Perhaps he goes to Floyd Mayweather tonight insisting on a shot against Orton; Orton gets the win with some chicanery from Legacy, which gives MVP some legitimacy to triple threat for the title against Cena...? Makes enough sense to me.

Great ppv. CM Punk-Hardy was definately one of the best singles TLC matches that I have seen. Wasnt really interested to see ECW match so I didnt care it was over quickly. I dont care how many times DX comes back I love it each time.

So if WWE realized that Orton vs Cena wasn't a fresh matchup, it doesn't make a lot of sense to keep this stale program going. I like both guys a lot, but the timing just isn't very good in my opinion. With Smackdown progressing and Raw going in circles, I can only hope Raw takes a step in the right direction. Odds are not good though.

Khali is unwatchable in the ring. If not for Kane being an amazing professional, this would have been even worse. He needs to not wrestle. again. ever.
I really enjoyed the Cena-Orton match, and it would have been really intriguing had Garcia not botched it. I bet Vince was FURIOUS.
DX and Legacy worked well in the ring, and Legacy really looked strong. Props to the DX guys for putting the youngsters over in a big way.
Hardy and Punk said enough on their own. Nothing to say here, except WOW.
One of the best PPV's of the year. Worth the money.

Jeff Hardy and CM Punk are the reasons why Smackdown is the better show. I understand after the match that both were having trouble moving around. Too bad this program had to come to an end. Both deserve a lot more respect for the way they have performed. up to and beyond their capabilities. I know Jeff is going to be missed by everyone. But all good things must come to an end. Jeff ended his reign with a strong showing and now the Undertaker started Punk's next feud. But 1 bad thing did come of all this. And that is that Michelle McCool's already huge ego will now get even bigger with the Undertaker back.
I wonder if the fan that ran in (Brett DiBiase) will now be the 4th member of Legacy.
I don't understand what they are doing with ECW championship. They did the same thing last Tuesday as they did at the PPV. The breatdown on Christian does not make any sense to me. It seems as if they are trashing the ECW title. I know Vince doesn't care much for Christian but still.
I wonder if they are going to let Ziggler win the title on Smackdown or they are going to keep the title on Rey for awhile as they promised him a longer run as champion.
I am so bored of Orton vs, Cena that I hope 1 day they come up with much better storylines to put the title on someone more interesting. I think both Orton and Cena are getting stale.

Hardy/Punk sounded like an incredible match. Where do you rate in your summerslam greatest hits. Being from the UK, I am a huge fan of the Bret Hart/Bulldog match at Wembley. Just once I wished when watching it again the result could have been different.
Posted by: anand | August 24, 2009 5:34 PM
Except for the excellent TLC match, probably the worst SummerSlam ever.
Posted by: corey | August 24, 2009 5:44 PM
i feel bad for how the Main event ended now what happens to Morrison & Matt hardy almost wish that taker was on Raw because what smackdown has done for the last several months elevating talent has been great.

Is it me or did Hardy's Swanton bomd remind anyone of Snuka's leap at the Garden all those years ago

Kev, Did you hear anything about TNA handing out Sting masks outside the arena? (PW News Now website) I did see a few during Jeff Hardy's entrance, other wise the camera crews did a great job hiding them if this was the case.
RESPONSE FROM KE: Haven't heard it. I didn't see any.
Posted by: Curtis | August 24, 2009 6:28 PM
Actually a group of us got together and watched it - and we all commented it was one of the better PPV's out of the last 4 or 5 we've seen. The Undertaker was definitely a surprise at the end --- the strange thing is a 10 year old girl that was watching it said at one point, I wonder during which match the Undertaker will come back - we all just looked at her like RIGHT!!!! So needless to say, she got to say "I told you so, at the end" --- while I didn't want Punk to win, guess Jeff had to give up the belt to take his hiatus ---- and now I guess it will lead to a feud between Punk and Undertaker - although I really thought they'd elevate John Morrison or begin a feud with Matt Hardy....
I love DX - knew they'd win and wasn't disappointed in the match and glad they gave Michaels the win on his comeback.
Cena and Orton - definitely lots of twists and turns, but we all knew someway Randy would retain that belt.... Guess it'll be Orton and Cena rematch on the next PPV.
Rest of the matches were okay but these were the only three that I really liked. Overall I thought it was worth our money for this one.

Why is it that the ECW Championship match has been less than a minute at the past 2 summerslams and last years wrestlemania..and I actually wanted to see all of those matches.
Posted by: Nate Dogg | August 24, 2009 7:27 PM
Great TLC match, I agree that maybe they shouldve waited for Takers return and that DX actually put Legacy over...but why would Brett Dibiase help Orton and not Legacy??
I always love a 'heel' friendly crowd...Ziggler, Jerishow, Orton all getting cheers, especially Orton...but that may be more anti-Cena's than pro Orton's.
I really like Christian...but why bother with an ECW match...they couldve built it up more and done it at Breaking Point and possibly have given the WWE/WHC title a break at that PPV.
Kane/Khali just beat out MVP/Swagger for worst match....Kane needs to get back to the gym and lose some weight, Khali could barely kick out of a pin.
On that point also, either the refs or the wrestlers need to work out their timing better when kicking out of a pin...it looked way to obvious at points that the match wasn't going to end when the refs quick count 2 and then suddenly hold up on 3....but overall a very good show.

I agree Undertaker should have returned on the next episode of Smackdown and Punk should have dished out a bigger attack on Hardy to make his disappearance seem more kayfabe.
Good to see DX didn't do their usually burial act. I hope the feud continues and I hope that Legacy keep getting pushed against them. At least Triple H isn't in the title picture...
How did Ziggler lose again!? WWE really should have given him the title this time.
Hopefully Christian and Regal will have a rematch and that'll be a proper match.
Good to see MVP get a solid win, hope it's the start of something big for him, wouldn't hold my breath though...

I agree with you on the Hardy match. The undertaker stole the thunder from that match, which was one of the best I have seen in a while.
I also agree with you on the Cena/Orton match when the second referee came out. That was such a BS move, my brother and I damn near turned the TV off. Should have skipped that and went directly to the "fan" interference. They sold the "fan" thing so well they didn't even mention that during the recap of all the close endings to the match. Kudos for that WWE!
Posted by: Duane | August 24, 2009 7:46 PM
I really enjoyed the Orton/Cena match the most. Maybe it was because I was freaking out that Orton would lose. I am the most emotionally involved in Cena matches, but not for the right reasons. I am always terrified of another title reign filled with kiddy jokes and lame humor. This was the Match of the night for me.
Legacy looked decent. Though I didn't like Lawler's commentary "Legacy may think they are as good as DX even though they are not" Way to get them over King. I thought the commentary made it seem amazing that legacy could even hang with DX, rather than getting them over as credible wrestlers.
I thought the Punk/Hardy match was only so so. They had some big bumps, but nothing we haven't seen before. I thought the finishing kick to Hardy's rib was anticlimactic. I love when JR calls the Jeff hardy a "Adrenaline Junkie" especially with Hardy's drug history. I am worried that Punk will be used as a transition champ for Undertaker.
Posted by: Zach F | August 24, 2009 8:12 PM
wwe did the same thing with mvp. well, when he was on smackdown that is. took him three tries to win the united states title from beniot at wrestlemania 23, backlash and judgement day
then he went to raw and well we all know how that goes...
Posted by: zach | August 24, 2009 8:15 PM
That has my vote for PPV of the year (so far.) Truly awesome!! It's not even worth nit picking at a few things that were wrong with it.
That TLC match is about the only thing that could rival HBK vs. Undertaker for match of the year!
Awesome DX entrance!! Plus a great job of putting Legacy over!!

Smackdown wont be the same without Jeff Hardy. I sure hope he comes back soon..Punk Hardy Morisson Jericho and Edge Make Smackdown the best Wrestling Show in the world right now...If all of them were healthy and competing at the the same time that would be awesome
Posted by: delon | August 24, 2009 11:23 PM
I'm glad the Christian/Regal match was only 8 seconds long so that we could see a 20 minute entrance by DX and a classic encounter between Khali and Kane.
I have to agree that the Undertaker spot stole the thunder out of the TLC match. I am looking forward to Punk vs. Taker, though. Their matches will most certainly be stiff.
Posted by: Cliff | August 24, 2009 11:34 PM
I think the ending to the CM punk Jeff hardy match was a good one if not a little predictable. If u look at the summerslam poster you'll notice the Undertakers on it that kinda tiped me off as to see him somewhere in the pay-perveiw. But even with that said I still enjoyed the ending very much. I was just saying to myself how smackdown has been getting a little boring in recent and that they need to bring back taker to liven things up (bring back the DEADMAN to LIVEN things up Ha funny) and im happy they did it
Posted by: M6000 | August 25, 2009 12:14 AM
I thought Punk-Hardy was more of a spotfest... I didn't enjoy it at all. It also made it look as if Punk wouldn't have won if Hardy hadn't done that suicidal Swanton, and we got to see Undertaker at the end. Whee.
I marked out when Orton finally pinned Cena. Clean. I was sure Cena was gonna win with all those restarts. Bad botch by Lilian.
I think too big a deal is being made of Ziggler not getting the title. We've all been complaining about how the IC title has lost its meaning. I think keeping the title on Mysterio and giving him a longer reign might bring some of its prestige back... If you consider the IC title from, say, 15 years ago, I think Ziggler doesn't quite deserve it yet...

Kev, why do you even post comments by people like that "Montgomery Delaney" guy up there?
Anyway, as for the PPV:
While I dislike wrestlers who have so much control over booking (Hogan, HHH, etc.), 'taker has never shown any great need to be a champion. I'm hoping they will use him to add legitimacy to the Punk-Morrison program by having matches against both, but not actually winning the belt. To be involved in such a three-way angle would do wonders for the careers of the two young guys, 'taker would be involved in the hottest program in wrestling, and he would look good in putting the other guys over.
Was pleasantly surprised by the Legacy-DX match. I'm a Michaels mark, and a DX fan (the only good HHH is DX HHH), and it made me happy that though DX won (no surprise there), they really made Legacy seem strong.
Overall, good PPV, not great. A little pedestrian for one of the "big" shows, would have been a very good "lesser" show. So it falls squarely in "decent" territory.
Posted by: Michael in Virginia | August 25, 2009 4:34 AM
I did not see the ppv...wish I did thought.
I'm someone on this page realizes that time ran short and a match had to be cut short (Regal/Christian). It was probably not originally booked to end in 8 seconds. Thats just entertainment.
RESPONSE FROM KE: That could very well be in the case. But then the people responsibile for keeping the show on time need to do a better job. Perhaps not showing all the videp packages would save time. Or, don't have a 10-minute DX entrance followed by a 20-minute DX match.
Posted by: rob the barber | August 25, 2009 8:18 AM
I've been waiting for this. Great job as usual, Kev...
I don't get the hype for the TLC match. Except for parts near the end, it lacked that "Whoa!" factor for me. But I do think it's not a bad match...
After DX's win, will their feud with Legacy continue? Or better yet, how will it continue?
I hope it's not going to be Spirit Squad part 2.

Lillian was muddling her way through intros again on Monday. It's a shame she's almost gone, they could have just made it her gimmick.
I'm a huge Taker mark, so I'm probably biased about how the show ended. I think it's an unfortunate side effect (no pun intended) that Punk lost his moment a little bit, but I saw the "swap" at the end as basically saying that Jeff Hardy is gone. It was probably a little bit of punishment too for Hardy I think, to just have to disappear in the dark rather than be recognized for his part in an amazing match.
Posted by: James C | August 25, 2009 10:35 AM
In 50 years of going to house shows,I have only seen two cases of actual fan interference. Both fans were obviously totally drunk and in both cases all the match participants kicked the crap out of the guy, tossed him out of the ring for the cops to arrest him and went on with the match like nothing happened.
If you ever see a "fan" interfere in a match and not get totally clobbered, you can bet its a work.
And no,you wouldnt have any chance of winning a lawsuit against the promoter.

To Montgomery Delaney: This is an opinion blog, not analytical color commentary. Kevin, gives unbelievable detail as to what happened on all the shows and PPVs. There are some of us that work nights, and don't get to see the shows or the PPVs, so we rely heavily on Kevin to give us the details and either make us happy or mad we couldn't watch.
Kevin, great job as always!!!

I ordered the SummerSlam PPV and I am glad I did. The opening match for the IC was great and I was thinking that Ziggler would walk away champ, but was pleasantly surprised by Rey's win. Don't worry folks, they will eventually put the belt on Dolph, but are building up a great feud between the two. (btw....is it just me or are the people behind the scenes trying to make Dolph look like the next Mr. Perfect? You know with the cocky attitude and the frizzly hair).
MVP is awesome with the mic. The match was ok for the short time they had.
Tag Team title match was ok, really can we end the whole Big Show - boxer punch out thing? I mean the guy is the biggest of the athletes and should not have to resort to a gimmick punch to beat opponents.
DX vs Legacy was also great and it nearly looked as if the WWE would throw us a swerve and give Legacy the win. I see this one continuing, possibly including Randy after he drops the belt and going into the Survivor Series.
Cena vs Orton was the usual and I really thought after the first two restarts that Cena was walking out as champ. You have got to admit though, the fan run-in I thought was legit with the way they did not show it in the replay and the reaction of Cena and Orton.
Hardy and Punk was easily the match of the night. I really thought that the injury angle was going to be the end of the match with Punk getting the belt and Hardy being carted off on a stretcher to end his WWE reign for now. The Taker surprise put a nice touch to the ending though.
All in all a great show. Could have been the PPV of the year without the Khali-Kane match though. The main events were definitely better than Wrestlemania and hopefully the WWE will axe one of the summer PPVs to give SummerSlam the WM type feeling it deserves.
A side note.....I ordered SS through DirecTV and missed the ending to the tag match and the entire CM Punk interview. I haven't seen it reported, but DirecTV did put up the proverbial we are experiencing temporary technical difficulties. Did any of the other providers have that problem?
Posted by: Gary | August 25, 2009 12:54 PM
If the "fan" interference was designed to look realistic - mission accomplished. But it also proved confusing an distracting.
Multiple people were hauled out of various parts of the arena by security throughout the night. So when the fan ran in and got hauled away, everyone in the section I was in was still buzzing about how that could happen or if it was real, paying less attention to the match as it continued and ended.
Cena did a GREAT job of selling it as legit fan interference. Perhaps it wasn't as awkward with the benefit of TV commentary.
RVD was in the arena and fans were chanting his name and asking him if he was coming back. He just smiled and shrugged his shoulders and answered with a "you never know."

I loved every minute of the ppv. really. but im upset about hardy leaving...as stated in my last entry...when is he coming back?? will they tell us?? i mean...he was the main reason i watched. without him there....my world seems empty!! why should i watch??? and why didnt they let him walk out heroically and wave goodbye to everyone?? i mean he did amazing in that match and he kinda didnt get any credit. i hope he is okay. it can be hard to be his fan sometimes because he will do anything to get attention. i mean the suicidal swanton. i had a bad feeling about that one. i love him but someone needs to tell him to cool it with the crazy stunts. i guess thats why im okay with him leaving for a while. he needs to rest and enjoy his 32nd birthday on the 31st.
also. about the kane and khali fight. REALLY????? i dont have anything against khali but i dont like to watch him wrestle. he's a bit to big...he kinda lumbers around and can barely kick out. and Kane...scares me!!! but i like khali's theme song! why didnt finding out that ranjin singh was his brother surprise me????? i guess the WWE thought people would be more shocked. but i wasn't.
about the cena/orton match. i love cena...but i am so sick of them fighting. WWE needs to freshen things up a little. i mean legacy and orton should deal with DX. maybe cena can fight someone else. not the miz. he annoys me, but he is kinda funny how he also says he's awesome. Cena needs to fight someone new. get a title and defend it. but not orton's. even though i don't like orton...he's good. it's gonna take alot to get him to give up his title. it was otherwise a good ppv. i didnt watch raw. i was upset over jeff hardy. im gonna miss him. seriously. i need to know when he comes back. cuz when he does. ill watch. him and cena were the only reason i watched. THE ONLY REASON!!! i watched Smackdown for hardy. i watched Raw for cena. and are the hardy boys really back??? OR WERE THEY JUST TOYING WITH MY EMOTIONS. I MEAN IF THEY CAN BRING BACK DX...WHY NOT THE HARDY'S. OF COURSE WHEN JEFF GETS BACK. AND WHATS GONNA HAPEN WITH MATT??? maybe he can fight cena. or maybe they can make a tag team of morrison and matt...with cena and shawn micheals. that would get people confused on who to go for. i mean i love morrison...and matt...and cena and shawn....i would love that match. i mean..of what i saw of raw...cena helped DX so it only seems fair that he be on a team with shawn. shawn is so cute!!! i love him! i watched his october 5th match in 1985 when he was in the midnight rockers!!! he was so cute!!!! loved the hair!! all in all....good money spent well!!

please answer this question as quick as you can. i could have sworn that someone on this blog said that jeff will be missed....as in he is leaving on a break from wrestling. but i just saw a commercial while watching ECW that jeff hardy will be fighting cm punk in a steel cage for the title on friday night smackdown.(which happens to be my birthday!!)??? WHAT IS GOING ON??? I THOUGHT THAT THE RIVALRY BETWEEN CM PUNK AND HARDY WAS OVER and a new 1 was gonna start between punk and undertaker???? IS HARDY GOING OR STAYING!!! PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION. thank you very much. your blog is awesome!!!
RESPONSE FROM KE: Hardy's last match --supposedly -- is against Punk on this week's Smackdown.

It was a solid PPV, easily the 2nd best of the year behind Backlash. Not putting the belt on Ziggler was a mistake. The end with the Undertaker not only stole Punk's moment, but also took some luster off the great match that just took place, as well as the great feud Punk had with Hardy over the last 3 months. DX/Legacy was a pretty good tag match that really boosted the credibility of Rhodes and DiBiase. Too bad so much of the show was dedicated to DX stuff that MVP/Swagger couldn't get 7 minutes and Christian/Regal couldn't get 7 seconds.

Instead of doing all those restarts why not just have the stipulation before the match where if Orton gets DQed or counted out he loses the title. During the end of the match, Orton tries to pin Cena with his foot on the ropes but the ref catches him before the 3. Orton argues with ref and is caught in the STF when the "fan" rushes the ring and Orton wins with the RKO. How simple was that.

Ok, so I'm a couple of days late with this, as I finally got around to watching Summerfest after a couple of crazy days of work.
Great PPV! I can't believe nobody has mentioned it yet, but my favorite moment of the night was when all the chaos surrounding the stipulations in the Orton/Cena match was going on, somebody in the crowd held up a sign saying "THIS IS WHY I WATCH SMACKDOWN". Classic.
Lilian's goof was epic. Even Randy's face was like "I think Lilian needs to 'Just Say No'...".
TLC match was solid, I always get that shudder down my spine every time Jeff stands that high on a ladder about to Swanton. Smackdown will be a weaker show without him.
As somebody else remarked, I can't believe how heelish the LA crowd was! Orton was getting more cheers than Cena. The only heel that didn't really get any cheers was Punk, backing Kev's claim that Punk is possibly the best in the business right now.
Finally, I think Todd Grisham is getting better and better as a commentator. He puts Michael Cole to shame! Kev, was that really only the 8th TLC match in history? I feel like the Hardy's and the Dudley's had that many on their own?
