Quick hits on ECW
• Tuesday night’s episode of ECW was highlighted by the Christian-William Regal match that should have taken place at SummerSlam. It was hard-hitting and well-worked. In other words, exactly what you would expect from a match between these two. The stipulation for the nontitle contest was that if Regal defeated the ECW champion, he would get another title shot. That made the finish predictable – Regal won with the aid of outside interference from Vladimir Kozlov – but it did not take away from the quality of the match.
• Speaking of hard-hitting matches. Goldust and Sheamus engaged in another one this week. The match ended in a double count-out, which ensures that the program will continue. Goldust’s primary role on the show is to help establish the younger guys by putting them over, but I get the sense that this feud is benefiting Goldust more than it is Sheamus.
• The latest attempt to give Shelton Benjamin some personality is to basically make him a karaoke singer. He imitated Louie Armstrong in a backstage segment and he wasn’t bad. It makes me think that when Benjamin was singing that Hootie and The Blowfish song a few weeks ago, WWE was expecting the crowd to pop for it. Unfortunately, he didn’t sound good on that one and the crowd booed.
• It looks as if Benjamin is in a tweener stage and is on his way to becoming a babyface. At least that’s the way it seems this week.
• Did Matt Striker really refer to Benjamin as “The Blueprint?” I’m telling Matt Morgan.
• The tag match that pitted Benjamin and Zack Ryder against Yoshi Tatsu and Tyler Reks was entertaining. Tatsu showed more personality than Reks. In addition to being a nice showcase for the younger guys, the match also furthered the Benjamin-Ryder feud.
• What, no Abraham Washington this week?

I believe I remember you writing that the ECW title match on the episode after Summerslam should have taken place at the pay per view. This was because Matt Hardy def. Mark Henry by disqualification in about 30 seconds.... Apparently Summerslam and ECW title matches do not get along.

Yoshi Tatsu and Tyler Reks actually make a great tag team. Their gimmick can be having the two worst entrance themes in the WWE.

Hold the phone! Am I seeing things? Is ECW losing it's 60 second status? I used to watch the whole show in under a minute with the help of my DVR fastest fast forward mode. With the Christian/Team Regal saga beginning and the return of the Hurricane to a rather appropriate home on SyFy, I am losing the urge to mash the FFWD button. I am getting dangerously close to (GASP!) watching the show when it actually airs!
If I could be serious for a minute (we miss you Lance!), I really want to see the Hurricane/Burchill story get some legs. I can see Katie Lea becoming enamored with the Green Grappler and joining his caped crusade only to become injured during an otherwise uneventful match, causing Paul Burchill to blame Helms for his sister's injuries and vow to torment the hero for his grievous failure to protect her. Bingo! Supervillain and superhero now locked in a rivalry that will elevate both of them and provide all kinds of possibilities for the show. New heroes? New villains? Villain vs. Villain battles? I love it! Where's my check?

I thought ECW would fall into the crapper after they lost Swagger, Bourne and Henry but after a couple of transitional weeks things are looking up again.
I like Sheamus and I've enjoyed his matches with Goldust. Ever brand needs a program like this. An older guy helping a young guy along. Much like what Finaly does and is currently doing with Mike Knox.
Also, I've posted this before but I hope there is one last run for Dustin Rhodes/Runnels. I could see him in a program with William Regal. The common man's son vs. the blueblood.
Poor Shelton. Being stuck in SmackDown's mid-card is one thing but to be stuck in ECW's mid-card is another.
This just in from my crystal ball: WWE has come to terms with the release of Tyler Reks. We wish Mr. Reks well in his future endeavours.

I don't get Tyler Reks, the arena is never quieter than when he enters, he does nothing special, has no personality and a surfer gimmick is annoying. Last week, it seemed as if the announcers were really stretching for positive comments for him, almost laughable.
I hope they do something with Shelton Benjamin, he is so athletic in the ring which makes him very entertaining to watch. He impressed me the most out of all the wrestlers when I first started watching wrestling again a year and a half ago.

Is Tommy Dreamer taking time off? Hasn't even been mentioned since he was attacked before his scheduled tag match w/Christian a few weeks ago.
Sheamus and Rex could form a tag team called 'Awkwardly no Personalities'

Maybe I'm just an old-school traditionalist, but I love the idea of bringing together more stables. I think Legacy and the Regal "Roundtable" (Striker's name, I like it) are great ways to create more intriging story possibilities and to make guys relevant who would stuggle on their own. Honestly, do you think Cody Rhodes, Koslov, and Zeke would be anywhere near as interesting on their own? Now these guys not only have serious importance to their shows, but being part of these groups gives added intrigue to future programs.

I'm a huge Benjamin fan, he's second only to John Morrison in my book. While I prefer Shelton as a heel (he's just not a natural babyface), this turn, if that's what it turns out to be, at least shows that WWE is *trying* to do something with him.

I don't think that Tyler Reks is as bad as other posters in this space do, but I would agree that his surfer gimmick won't get him very far. Still, the creative team has slapped worse gimmicks on young talent. See Kizarny.
