« A big night for Dolph Ziggler on Smackdown | Main | Jim Cornette video interview »

Notes on MCW show, upcoming video interviews

It was an eventful night at the Maryland Championship Wrestling show Saturday at The New Green Room in Dundalk.

First and foremost, Ryan McBride won the ninth annual Shamrock Cup. The 24-year-old high flyer from Pasadena, Md., is deserving of the honor and has a bright future in the business (check out this very quick clip of McBride in action at a CZW show last year).

Earlier in the evening, McBride’s tag-team partner, Teddy Stigma, turned on him. McBride and Stigma had been MCW’s best and most popular tag team. Stigma, whose intensity was off the charts during his attack on McBride, is a fine talent, as well. I can’t wait to see the inevitable showdown between these two.

TNA stars Jim Cornette, Daffney and Stevie Richards appeared on the show, as did former WWE talent Kenny Dykstra. Patrick Brink, who had been under a WWE developmental contract in Florida, made his surprise return to MCW and was involved in a pull-apart with Batista look-alike Cobian.

As a referee on the show, I was one of the poor schmucks trying to keep these two powerhouses separated. At one point, I caught an elbow to the nose from Brink. My first thought after shaking it off was, “How cool would it be if there was blood pouring out of my nose? If the fans saw that, it might make the angle seem more real.” And at least I would have something to show for getting conked. Unfortunately, there was no juice.

I also had the honor of refereeing matches involving Daffney and Dykstra.

I first met Daffney when I was the editor of WCW Magazine in 2000, and she has always been very cool. She’s gotten herself in fantastic shape and has vastly improved as a wrestler since her WCW days. She told me how much she is enjoying being paired with “Dr. Stevie” Richards in TNA. Daffney also mentioned that she was driving to Virginia after the MCW show and was staying over at Mickie James’ house. She turned down my request to take me with her.

I had never met Dykstra before Saturday, but he was very easy to work with. I’d be surprised if Dykstra doesn’t return to WWE at some point. He’s only 23 and obviously has talent and a good look.

Another highlight for me Saturday night was conducting a backstage word-association interview with Cornette in which he gave his thoughts on wrestling figures such as Vince McMahon, Paul Heyman, Eric Bischoff and others. Needless to say, it was quite entertaining.

Video of my interviews with Cornette and Daffney will be posted in the next day or two.

There has been something bothering me for quite some time. I believe that I have finally figured it out. I am totally convinced thta Booker T is responsible for writing all of the blog entries submitted by Frank of Dundalk. After all, even Dundalk must have at least one English teacher.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Hay, ease up on Dundalk. They learned me reel goode at skool their.

me and my kids had a great time at the show i got to meet Cornette and his wife and my kids took a pic w/daffney along with the great wrestling action the only thing the wasn't great was ur fast count officating i know York is probably mad at U. All kidding a side I really recommend to everyone please support the local talent here and if you come and watch it is more than worth it i take my kids about 3 to 4 x a year and i am never really disappointed.

RESPONSE FROM KE: I didn't ref York's match.

my bad kev, anyway Wow MM that was harsh comparing me to booker but anyway some of us had better things to do with our time then pay attention on how everyword is spelled i guess while u were in home studing being a good little boy of was off doing bigger and better things like today while ur worring about my grammar I am rubutting back on you for fun unlike you who probably don't have a life other than geading some 8 year old kids test paper have an nice day I know I will.

Hey Frank from Dundalk; I would love to respond but, trying to read your post is like trying to listen to Booker T do commentary. And, btw, you really don't want to get ina battle of wits with me. Let's just move on.

Hey Kev! Thanks for using my clip from Youtube!! That CZW show was the same night at "The Wrestler" shoot!! Great blog!

MM ur probably right after the years of abuse you probably took as a kid and with all the knowledge youve probably acquired since then going up against my limited Dundalk mind you maybe right if you can dig that sucka

RESPONSE FROM KE: OK, I'm going to have to do a pull-apart here. Can't we all just get along?

Kevin - you should have bladed . That would have been cool .

RESONSE FROM KE: Maryland State Athletic Commission wouldn't have liked that.

Hey Kev hope you didn't get Mickie James in trouble. She shouldn't be associating with TNA talent, should she? Hope no one from Vince's camp is reading this.
Oh well, I know I'll sleep better tonight dreaming of a Daffeny/Mickie slumber party.

Magnificent Mark - Booker T has a broadcasting skool in Heebron .

I had a great time at the Cup even though i miss a couple of matches due to UFC being on. Looking forward to next show w/ Ron Simmons. I can finally get my program from the night he won the WCW title autograph

I'll ask you a question again. You said you'd think about it before so I was wondering if you came up with something to share.

Seeing how you've been in the ring, are there things going on during a match that you can share with us that we'd never have any idea are happening.

Thanks.

RESPONSE FROM KE: That's like a magician giving away his secrets. Honestly, I don't think it's my place to reveal anything since the MCW crew is allowing me to enter their world. I can tell you this: My main objective is to stay out of the wrestlers' way. Being aware of time cues and making sure no is hurt legit are also a big part of it.

"Maryland State Athletic Commission wouldn't have liked that."

Is this the same Maryland State Athletic Commission that screwed Ex lax Luger (thanx Road Warrior Hawk) out of the NWA title in 88'? Ah, memories.

Why is it that MCW can't bleed, but WWE can? I don't ever hear WWE having problems with the Maryland State Athletic Commission

RESPONSE FROM KE: I'm going to guess that it's because there is a fine and WWE doesn't mind paying it.
