WWE releases Candice Michelle, Sim Snuka
WWE announced on its Web site that Candice Michelle and Sim Snuka have been let go. Both have been absent from TV for a while, so neither move comes as much of a shock. In fact, I think a lot of people thought Snuka had already been released.
Michelle, a former Diva Search contestant, had gone from being strictly eye candy to a competent wrestler during her five-year stint in WWE. She won the women’s title in June 2007, but her career was derailed after suffering a cracked clavicle during a match on Raw against Beth Phoenix four months later.
After being out for five months, she re-injured her clavicle in her first match back and underwent surgery. She returned last fall, but she was never the same in the ring. Michelle was drafted to Smackdown last April but was never used.
Snuka, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy “Superfly’ Snuka, made his WWE debut in 2007 as part of the Deuce and Domino tag team. He was repackaged as a singles wrestler last year, and it appeared that he was going to get a push as part of the Randy Orton-led heel faction Legacy. Snuka was never officially part of the group, however, and he quickly disappeared from TV.
He reportedly was the cameraman during The Undertaker-Shawn Michaels match at WrestleMania XXV who was on the receiving end of Undertaker’s dive over the top rope onto the floor. Undertaker nearly landed on his head doing the move because the cameraman didn’t sufficiently break his fall.
As far as what the future holds for Michelle and Snuka, I wouldn’t be surprised if TNA had interest in Michelle, but I’m not as optimistic about Snuka. I could see Michelle either joining The Beautiful People – she would be a better fit that Madison Rayne – or feuding with them.

I was kinda shocked that Candice was released but then again maybe not. She seemed to be as injury prone as Mr. Kennedy. I hope she does end up in TNA unless she wants to go into acting which was her primary goal from the start. I really liked her and thought her in ring ability was getting better until her first clavicle injury. I wonder if she has the 90 day no compete cause that WWE screws it's wrestlers into accepting.

Don't walk under ladders, break mirrors, cross the paths of black cats, or pose in Playboy. Maybe it's just my imagination, but divas' careers seem to go wrong after they appear in that magazine.
Perhaps it's for the best that WWE and Playboy parted ways before Kelly Kelly would have suffered the curse.

I would like to say that I think Candice should have won an award in 2007 as the "most improved wrestler." She seriously went from being another WWE Barbie Doll to being able to put on some decent matches with anybody she was in the ring with. I think in late 07 during her title run she was probably a better technical wrestler than John Cena. That's not saying much, but for somebody who just started wrestling, it's big.
I don't think she will make nearly the money in TNA to attract her, she isn't really a wrestler and she can probably model and do Godaddy commercials.

Weird timing on these releases. They could have done it a few months ago, but who knows what they were trying to come up with.

I'm surprised that Candice was released. She's still signed with GoDaddy.com & featured prominently on their website (maybe not as much as Danica Patrick), and I thought WWE's attitude was to attach themselves to anything & everything mainstream, even if that particular person is somewhat injury-prone.
I have DJ Gabriel next on the WWE future endeavored pool.

Shame about Snuka. He looked decent in the one or two singles matches I saw him in and I had heard there was talk of him possibly getting an announcing job. I liked Candice, but she did seem at the end of her run.

Kev, what was the knock on Sim Snuka? It would have helped him to have received a push by being a part of Legacy.
Sorry to hear about Candice. She suffered thru some bad injuries including her broken nose (that required surgery, as I recall). Best of luck to her.

If WWE keeps thinning the talent, maybe they'll be able to go back to one roster and have quality programs more often.

Candice definitely seemed tentative in her few matches since coming back from injury. I know it's a football / general sports cliche, but going half-speed makes you more prone to injury than going full, and it looked bad anyway.
Kind of surprised that they let Sim Snuka go - I had thought they would just stash him in development and let him try to work his way back up to the main roster.

Dave,
I don't think they are required to sign the no compete clause. Everybody signs them because they are guaranteed an extra three months of pay for doing nothing. Pretty nice actually.

I am not so sure that merging the rosters would result in quality programs more often. I fear that the outcome would be a Monday Night Raw and a Friday Night Raw. HHH, Cena, Orton, and Batista get enough exposure as it is.

I mentioned the possibility of Sim Snuka getting released when Umaga left the company, but now (unless I'm forgetting a developmental talent) WWE currently has no one from Samoa under contract... kinda amazing to me since I've been watching for well over 20 years, and aside from maybe for a short time around 1992, there's always been a Samoan representative on the roster.

Candace was the 2007 PWI most improved wrestler of the year - that's wrestler, not female wrestler. You'll notice she is the only woman on this page and they go done to the 3rd runner up for each year.

The only way Candice Michelle joins the Beautiful People, is if they guest star in her next bondage film.

I agree with Christopher 100%, if it went to one show, name me one superstar on Smackdown who would get a match. Edge maybe and that's it. It would be Cena, HHH, Orton, Batista over and over again exactly like Raw.

I hope TNA don't go near Candice Michelle.
Her in-ring work is limited, she has no mic skills and i for one never found her attractive (she had too much work done on her face to appear natural).

Andy - I didn't realize they actually gave that award! Awesome, she definitely deserved it!

I wouldn't worry too much about WWE going to one show. At least not if they want to keep the integrity of Donald Trump as the owner of Raw. Theoretically, we should never see a Raw wrestler on ECW or Smackdown and vice versa unless Trump and Teddy Long/Tiffany make some sort of deal. The writers don't think we are that stupid, do they?

John- who cares about the work on her face ?? :)

Dave,
I just wanna say that yes, most of the Divas who pose for playboy don't usually make it far but Maria is still in WWE, even though she usually only referees the match!
