Another tri-branded Raw on Monday
For those who suspected that this Monday’s episode of Raw would have excess filler because it will be commercial free, you can probably rest easy. Talent from Smackdown and ECW will be appearing on the show, according to a report on pwinsider.com.
WWE seems to be making an all-out effort to raise Raw’s profile. In addition to having talent from all three brands on the program for the second week in a row, next week’s show also includes a Last Man Standing match between Randy Orton and Triple H for the WWE title as well as a live appearance by Donald Trump.
When all three brands get together, it illustrates just how much talent there is in WWE and usually makes for a more entertaining show. It raises the question of whether WWE should abandon the current model of having separate brands. While I would love to see WWE go back to a single roster, I understand the argument for not doing it.
As much as fans and critics take WWE to task for not giving a bigger push to certain guys, imagine how difficult it would be for mid-carders to get TV time if all of the A-listers were on one show. Plus, if the same talent worked Raw and Smackdown, it would making stretching out story lines more difficult. Even if WWE does decide one day to merge the Raw and Smackdown rosters, I would maintain ECW as a separate show consisting of up-and-coming talent and mid-carders who otherwise would be lost in the shuffle.

Wait! Isn't Raw now an "individually owned and operated entity?" How are ECW and Smackdown stars on Raw now? Gotta love inconsistent WWE storylines!

How would you propose WWE continued with it's programming if it were to go to a single roster? Which I agree with you on the point that it would make for a better all round show, But it does make things clearer and give a more 'rounded' show now with the seperation of Smackdown/Raw/ECW.
But your take on things would be interesting.

Maybe Trump will "buy" some wrestlers from another brand to mix things up a bit.

Combining the rosters doesn't necessarily mean that they have to put all of the stars on both shows on the same week. They can spread out the various storylines over the two shows.
RESPONSE FROM KE: They could do that, but wouldn't that been the same as having two separate shows.

I've always felt the solution was to end the brand extension, and just teach the writers to have some self-control in using talent. Just because HHH and Cena CAN show up on any show doesn't mean they HAVE to. If there is an especially hot storyline going on, sure have someone on all three shows. Otherwise, just don't book them.
It would have all the benefits of the brand extension, without any of the handcuffing.

my opinion, and kevin id like your thoughts on this is this: Leave ECW as basically a proving ground for young talent and NEVER mix their storylines into Raw/SD.. They should unify the wwe and world title..Every Month 1 show would get the World Title match at that PPV and alternate. The US and IC titles would then be the "major" titles on each show
RESPONSE FROM KE: ECW should definitely be a separate entity if WWE ever does combine Raw and Smackdown. I can see both sides of the argument as far as having one world champ.

It'd definitely be better to combine the brands but only have guys appear on one show a week. This would allow for a larger variety of feuds. I mean if Raw remains with the same talent then come WM next year it'll still be Orton, HHH, Cena, Batista or HBK for the title. I think we've seen every combination of these guys a dozen times.
Wouldn't it be fresher if say Cena, HHH or Orton could begin a program with Hardy, Punk, or Morrison?

Splitting up the rosters allows everyone to spend much less time on the road. Wouldn't it be a waste of time and money to have every guy on the whole roster be available for every show?
I'm a firm supporter of the split rosters. Unifying the world titles, on the other hand, is something I would definitely consider despite the two different "brands."
RESPONSE FROM KE: Excellent point about it allowing guys to spend less time on the road.

It would be like Raw except there would not be a better show to look forward to at the end of there week.

Based upon what the WWE website says, Hunter and Orton will be having a last man standing match on Monday Night Raw, followed by a REGULAR match for the title at The Bash.
What?

Isn't the purpose of the brand extension to limit the number of dates worked by talent? When Smackdown was created, there was a big uproar when everyone was asked to do two TV shows a week. The solution was to split the roster.

I'd like to see the brands continue to be separate - with storylines to back that up. But a good reason for combining, for instance, Raw & Smackdown, is that there would be approxiamately twice as much time to develop stories for PPV's.

this is one of those things without much of a right answer.. i really noticed how i wasnt becoming bored in last weeks show(which usually happens to me when watching raw or smackdown) nearly everyone got some tv time on raw though apart from kendrik but hes in the doghouse anyway.. actually i think if title matches could happen on either brand that would mix it up enough not make things to crazy and give the shows a bit more ommf. might bring some more attention the us and IC titles to, and their feuds wouldnt be so samey. also we could have a tag division then..

I feel sorry for ECW and Smackdown roster that they are being made to wrestle in this "sorry brand" called RAW.

An interesting idea might be to have some type of "interleague play" for a few weeks every 6 months or so. I know I always look forward to this in baseball. WWE would actually have to keep the brands separate though. Now if only WWE would hire all of us from the peanut gallery.....

WWE can limit dates without having three different brands, it can just make a conscious decision to limit appearances for each individual wrestler to a set maximum.
Better yet, WWE can let each wrestler have a month or two per year off entirely when needed.
Rotating wrestlers in and out would make for a much fresher product then trying to use everyone on one set show per week.

I had a strange thought this afternoon about the new RAW General Manager, namely that it could be someone that people naturally associate with Donald Trump.
I wouldn't be surprised if the next GM on RAW were a former cast member of "The Apprentice" or the recently removed Miss California (or another former-beauty pageant winner).
Then, WWE could continue the angle of Donald Trump owning RAW without his appearance (not as if wrestling fans were accustomed to seeing Ted Turner when he owned WCW).

Kevin, have you seen that the autumn WWE tour to the UK for Raw is called the DX Invasion tour? I guess we know what Shawn Michaels and HHH will be doing when SHawn returns....
Setting up them to fight it out at Mania?
Also, the Smackdown tour is called the Undertaker's RIP tour....which surely points towards retirement very soon?
Is the WWE that stupid to give away big storylines that that??
