A bloody good night for Samoa Joe on TNA Impact
It remains to be seen whether Samoa Joe can become a money-drawing lead babyface in TNA, but no one can say that the company isn’t making a legitimate effort at this point to get him there.
By portraying Joe as a whining, yelling, naive babyface a while back, the creative team had pretty much buried his character. But the writers apparently saw the error of their ways a few months ago and turned him into a violent anti-hero with a more menacing look.
Since the makeover, Joe has been booked as an unstoppable force. He destroyed Kevin Nash on two occasions, and Thursday night on TNA Impact, Joe took down both Scott Steiner and Booker T in First Blood matches.
Joe brutalized Steiner by putting a trash can over his head and whacking it repeatedly with a pipe. When the trash can was removed, Steiner was bleeding profusely. Booker was Joe’s next victim. Joe nailed him in the stomach with a pipe, and Booker began spitting up blood.
Joe couldn’t possibly have been put over any stronger. He came across as a real bad dude, and, thankfully, he did so without having to put a knife to anyone’s throat.
Next on Joe’s hit list is Kurt Angle. Those two have always worked well together and they’ve been kept apart long enough that a program between them won’t feel repetitive.
Other thoughts on Thursday’s show:
The Angle-Sting match was OK but it wasn’t anything special. The Matt Morgan/Main Event Mafia story line is getting interesting, though. ...
Tara (formerly Victoria in WWE) looked good in her TNA debut match against Madison Rayne. I’m still waiting for her to cut a promo or do a sit-down interview with Mike Tenay. ...
Is it just me or does Rayne seem out of place as a member of The Beautiful People? ...
I know that I’m easily confused (especially when I’m watching Impact), but how is it that Mick Foley, a shareholder in TNA, can fine and suspend Jeff Jarrett, the owner of the company? ...
Foley said he has lost his smile. Wow, Shawn Michaels did that promo 13 years ago and it’s still being referenced. ...
Shane Douglas looked better than I expected he would in the ring. I’m talking about the quality of his work, of course. From a cosmetic standpoint, “The Franchise” either needs to lose that farmer’s tan fast or else wear a shirt with sleeves. ...
I’m enjoying the Raven/Stevie Richards/Daffney faction. I especially liked Daffney’s beat-down on Lauren that we could hear but not see. It was something different and it allowed viewers to use their imaginations as to what terrible things Daffney was doing to her. I’m guessing, however, that the real reason it occurred off camera is because Lauren isn’t capable of adequately selling the beating.

i like the new Samoa Joe but the way Booker sold internal bleeding was terrible he act like was knocked out instead of kicking in pain. Douglas needs more than a long sleeve shirt you should tell him if he's gonna wear a shirt please dont wear black. Why is Mick's security still wearing the MEM shirts. i loved daffney's new look and the beatdown she gave.

To spoil a bit, I think the issue is going to be with Joe that he apparently tore his triceps, according to the Interwebz. I don't know how they can maintain his heat without having him wrestle.
RESPONSE FROM KE: He did suffer a torn triceps, but the last I heard was that he was going to try and work through it and put off surgery. That doesn't sound like the smartest thing to do, but it's almost understandable considering his push right now.

Kevin hit on some important issues in this post for TNA watchers. The one thing I’d disagree with is that Madison Rayne is a great fit in the Beautiful People because they’ve done a great job of using her as the guinea pig/sacrificial lamb. (And yes, Don West’s heel commentary has helped get that point across.) Other than that, I agree wholeheartedly with this post.
Joe has been booked to be super strong but there’s still no real story here. Some random figure (we assume it to be Tazz) tells Joe to take out the MEM so, of course, he does in 2 weeks what the entire TNA locker room could not do in the past 8 months. We don’t know who or why. We don’t even know why the MEM has decided to attack in evil ninja mode (one at a time, politely taking turns) as opposed to the gang warfare they practiced so brutally well for months. Joe looks great but the promotion as a whole looks stupid. Not a good trade.
This week, after what three weeks, Douglas and Daniels are now in a loser leaves TNA match. (They haven’t announced it but that’s what Daniels basically said.) This is almost impossibly stupid assuming that both guys have a future with the company. Why the ridiculous urgency and ridiculous stipulation? It devalues Feast or Fired and retirement matches. Hot shotting is sometimes okay; hot shooting yourself in the foot is just not.
Keep up the good work, Kevin.

Re: "Is it just me or does Rayne seem out of place as a member of The Beautiful People? ..." I think she is bringing down Velvet Sky. Since Rayne joined the Beautiful people Sky has been acting more and more like Love's lackey, a role I don't care for.
BTW I am absolutely LOVING Eric Young's heel turn. I nearly fell out of my chair when he smacked Jeremy Borash on Impact!!

Rayne definitely looks out of place in the BP.
Kayfabe JJ is supposed to be the "founder" of TNA, which doesn't necessarily mean he is the owner.

Madison Rayne has the right look for The Beautiful People but might not have the right attitude.

No Kevin it's not just you unless of course like many other angles on TNA (& WWE for that matter) the "Beatiful People is an oxy-moron (and for you Rush Limbaugh fans no that's not a drug). The other 2 have that chiseled, over mascera'd look but do Rayne a favor and stay away from the close-ups, it wasn't very flattering even on regular TV, but on HD ouch! I had to go in the other room and watch on the old TV.

I have a simple question. Since Joe was taking part in a first blood match, where all weapons were apparently legal- why didn't he just use the GIANT KNIFE/ SWORD THING he has been carrying around for the last 2 months?
I'm just sayin'.

I have never been a big fan of Joe, maybe I just need to watch more of his matches.
To be honest I liked the Angle-Sting match. Seen it too many times but they still put on a good match.
I thought Tara looked solid, the match between her and Angelina Love should be good but I don't expect the belt to leave her waist just yet, just a feeling.
The problem with Rayne is the "Sacraficial Lamb" routine. Everyone see's it coming. It would be nice for a change for her to go into a match not looking to "steal" a win but get a clean win to give her some credability...Even if it's agains Cody Deaner.
Foley has lost more than his smile. For someone who has made millions he sure could use a trip to the dentist and I'm not talking about his 2 front missing teeth, I'm talking about the rest of them that look to be rotting out of his head.
Is Shane Douglas that hard up? Really? I expected him to wreslte with a shirt on because he is out of shape, but showing up with a farmers tan?!?
Maybe he had to stand in line outside of the Impact Zone in the Florida sun waiting on Dixie Carter to bring him a pen to sign the contract.
What worries me is this is a short lived angle with Raven, Daffney, and Richards. When Raven goes again where will that leave Daffney and Richards??? More talent on the way to bail them out perhaps???
Good Stuff Kevin.

Great episode of Impact this week. Just to look at the little things:
Not sure why, but that Booker T interview was funny. He was very emotional at the end of it. Sometimes Booker really owns.
It was also kind of funny when Raven and Richards were just sitting there while Daffney took out Taylor. Pretty cool and demented stable. It's interesting that in TNA the male wrestlers also help put over the females. It goes to show the respect they have for the Knock Out division. Hopefully Raven doesn't disappear too soon.
Short and sweet promo from Daniels. I guess Douglas only came back to put someone over at Slammiversary, where the stars of yesterday and today collide. His match with AJ was slow but good. A deliberate paced match is perfectly fine when there isn't any stalling, and I enjoyed this match.
Quality main event.
