Predictions for WWE Draft
With the WWE draft taking place on Monday night’s three-hour edition of Raw, I figured I would make some predictions about who will be switching brands. According to wwe.com, 12 “superstars” will be drafted.
As I started making my list, however, I realized that I’m not really sure who is on which show anymore. There have just been way too many instances of wrestlers showing up on brands other than their own. And if someone who writes a wrestling blog and never misses an episode of Raw, Smackdown and ECW can’t keep it straight, then what’s the point of having a draft and separate brands?
So I have decided not to even attempt to guess who the 12 draftees will be and where they will land. I will just say that I think Smackdown’s Edge and Raw’s Chris Jericho will change places, and Christian will join Edge on Raw. I also would like to see R-Truth, Hurricane Helms and The Brian Kendrick drafted to ECW. Those three talented performers are lost in the shuffle on Smackdown, and while ECW is less prestigious, at least they would have prominent roles on that show.
Oh, I do have one more prediction for Monday night’s show: Immediately after the final draft pick is announced at the end of the program, Vince McMahon will appear on the stage and spontaneously combust.

There's a lot of talk about Mickie James going to SmackDown, and whilst it would be a great move for her with Maryse, Michelle McCool, Natalya and Gail Kim there, all fresh feuds, I'd be disappointed because I bought tickets to RAW next week, with Mickie being one of the main reasons why.

What might be unexpected and somewhat retro is to resurrect the WCW name (I think the stink is off it by now), take some of the better up and comers and a few old school wrestlers, and truly re-create the brand with little to no crossover with the others in the WWE family. With one exception: the heavyweight title holders. They could, in one sense, defend in the 'territories' again. Maybe they could even head for smaller arenas (5000-8000 capacity), as there seems to be a lot of nostalgia out there for the good ole days of NWA, etc.

I'm hoping that they swap announcers back to having JR on Raw and Cole on Smackdown.

"Immediately after the final draft pick is announced at the end of the program, Vince McMahon will appear on the stage and spontaneously combust". lollllllllll
I don't think they would even attempt that again........we've had our intelligence insulted too many times.
I also think that they should make ECW a show where "up and coming" wrestlers can show their talents.
At this stage of the game, do you want to see The Undertaker drafted to RAW? (It would be a massive draft pick!)
RESPONSE FROM KE: Undertaker to Raw would be a nice move, but a major babyface would have to go to Smackdown to fill the void. Not sure who that would be.

I do agree with all those people going to ECW, but knowing how WWE has treated ECW in past drafts, I would be shocked if ECW gets more than 2 picks. If anything ECW is gonna lose their champion and top heel for a 3rd year in a row.
By the way, I REALLY hope something bad happens to Mr. McMahon. It's becoming a tradition that life threatening things happen to him during a draft.

I'm surprised at how much complaining i've been reading about lately online regarding the wrestlers showing up on different shows. it's because of Wrestlemania people!!! If WWE didn't allow hhh to come to raw, then there wouldn't be a HHH/Orton feud...nor would cena be in the triple threat. We would have been stuck with HHH vs Undertaker instead of Taker vs Michaels. Every year around this time, the superstars mingle in different brands in order to give us a better Wrestlemania. I'm done my rant now. Thank you.
RESPONSE FROK KE: Right, only it started happening before WrestleMania time.

The way things are going, I think Cena will be drafted to smackdown and Hunter to raw. And J.R. comes back on Raw and Michael cole goes back to smackdown or even ecw.Michaels get drafted to smackdown to continue his rivalry with undertaker. To sum it up, I really don't care about who gets drafted on which brand. I'll only watch Jericho's brand.

I would like to see at least one brand bring back the tag team belts. WWE has soooo much unused talent, and so many matchups are stale. Good tag teams with actual storylines would help to get some of that talent back in the ring. They are being paid anyway.

You can see who is currently on what brand right here:

RESPONSE FROM KE: Thanks for the info, but I know where to find it. My point was that if you have to look it up, the concept of separate brands isn't working.

I'm stoked to see this draft. I've been keeping up with the WWE for half a year (new fan) I got to see my first live event last week, and I couldn't be more excited to see Edge come to RAW. Sure, he's an a****** but he keeps me entertained. I will keep my eyes open for any spontaneous combustion. ^_^

Didn't Punk cash in MITB at the draft last year? If so, any chance he does it again?
Posted by: Bad News | April 13, 2009 11:52 AM
i think that john cena will be a suprise draft pick and be drafted to smackdown as christian is also drafted to smackdown as edge is drafted to ECW and triple H is sent back to raw
RESPONSE FROM KE: No way Edge is going to ECW

with the jericho prediction i'm not sure it will happen, i'm not really sure how often draws happen but jericho is coming to australia in july with raw so unless there is another draw before that i don't see him going, as for christian i thought edge was on smackdown so i can see christian going to smackdown and maybe becoming tag teamers again or a big rivalry that goes on for a while. i agree with your ecw drafts, santino should be there but he ain't hardcore or a good wrestler and a few jobbers as they turn up on other brands anyway. CM punk should be on ecw and should be given the powers to use moves he used in ROH not the (expletive deleted) moves he uses in wwe.

I know what you mean. The announcers try to plug the draft as if it's some big deal that tag teams can be split up "I can't imagine how a team will defend their belts if they're on different brands"
Miz and Morrison have been on every brand for just about every week for the past month (not that I'm complaining)
Posted by: White Rabbit | April 13, 2009 1:36 PM
The worst kept secret in WWE is that John Morrison and Miz will end up on different brands. They made mention of the "possibility" that Miz and Morrison could be traded on after matches on RAW and ECW. Morrison is ready for the big time and Miz is still not there yet. I also expect good ole J.R. to get traded back to Raw to work with Lawler again.

I don't want The Undertaker to be drafted to Raw; I like him best on Smackdown. I also want Christian to come to Smackdown, Edge or no Edge.
Posted by: Christopher | April 13, 2009 2:54 PM
Kevin, don't you know better by now than to say No Way something will happen? Just because you said no way Edge will be on ECW I expect them to make him the first pick for ECW. LOL!

The Divas Title and Women's Title, and their holders, obviously, should switch shows. Same with the IC and US title and their holders, respectively.

Seeing as reportably Vince wants to strengthn the Raw brand, that leads me to assume his two favorite guys Cena and HHH would be there, yet they cant have both champions on raw...I wonder what they will do to sort this? They had CM Punk win last year when Smackdown had both majour titles.

aha at the comment about Edge going to ECW. Anyways I would love to have Chris Jericho on Smackdown to feud with Edge. I know it wouldn't make sense, but i would love that feud.
Posted by: Anna | April 13, 2009 4:15 PM
Swagger will go to Smackdown. Maybe a UT feud for Summerslam?
Posted by: Matt | April 13, 2009 5:25 PM
Since they've done things to mix it up like actually draft the announcers last year, can we see a draft of writers this year? A Michael Hayes written Raw...yikes!
Posted by: James C | April 13, 2009 5:35 PM
Except for last year, the drafts histoically haven't moved that many top stars around and I don't think that this year will be any different. The only two big stars I see moving are Jericho to SD, because he's in between feuds now and I see Edge turning face soon and those two having a program together, and the Undertaker to RAW because, A) He deserves it and, B) I hope to see a few more matches between him and HBK. Other than that I hope they don't mess around with ECW to much, other than to give them a few more up and comming stars. The 3 you mentionrd would be perfect and I would like to add Dolf Ziggler's name to that list. I hope they keep Swagger and Evan Bourne. With all the talent WWE has across 3 brands why not try to make all 3 as exciting as possible?
Morrison's going on to bigger and better things, probablly SD, a feud with MVP would be intresting, although that sucks for the tag team division. Miz should stay put on ECW and make a run at that title first. I don't think he's ready for a singles run on RAW or SD, he'll just get lost in the shuffle.JR most likley goes back to RAW and Hole goes back to SD, but the thought of him and Grissiom calling Fri. nights makes me cring. Other than that I see alot of guys like Burchill, Gabriel, Nobel and Jimmy Wang Yang getting moved around,(yawn). Some Diva's too I'm sure. McCool more than likely.
I'll admit around WM time everyone is on everybody else's show, that's why I don't know why they didn't save this for June like the usally do.Oh well, I'll never complain about 3 hours of wrestling.
RESPONSE FROM KE: I forgot to mention Ziggler to ECW as well. Good call.

after tonight, i will make a few predictions: edge will win at backlash or cm punk will eventually cash in mitb to keep the title on smackdown, big show will stay with vickie, kane will feud with taker, kozlov will be a surprise entrant in the elimination chase on ecw and will win the title, and chris jericho will feud with rey mysterio some time in the next year
RESPONSE FROM KE: Please not another Taker-Kane feud.
