Live WrestleMania XXV blog: Money in the bank ladder match

Another surprise here, as CM Punk wins the Money in the Bank for the second straight year, in about 15 minutes.

Anyone who thought this year's ladder match wasn't going to be as good as those from past years was proven wrong. The presence of bigger competitors such as Mark Henry and Kane did not take away from the match at all. In fact, Henry's strength was used to create some innovative spots.

Speaking of innovative, you can always count on something new and spectacular from Shelton Benjamin. He delivered the first big spot of the night: A headfirst flip dive off a ladder on the floor onto a group of guys. In another cool spot, Benjamin and Christian both teetered off the ladder and appeared to be going over the top rope together, but Christian manged to catch himself on the top rope and re-balance the ladder.

One of these years, Benjamin needs to be rewarded for all his talent and risk-taking with a win in one of these matches. The other guy who really stood out was Kofi Kingston.

Maybe this is the swerve of the night. How many of us picked this outcome?

Punk is the first two-time winner, and I'll go on the record, right now, and say that he will be the first one to fail after he cashes in his privilege.

Shelton is always the star of this match. I was hoping he would win.

Kofi was Shelton Jr. He did some pretty cool things.

I can't believe CM Punk won again. I'm not too excited to see where this leads to.

Kofi was straight up dope in this match. I seriously expected either him, Shelton (who's seriously over due for a strong push), or Christian to win. As much I like Punk, someone else should have won. Although him screaming "What's my name?!" was friggin funny.

I hope Vince noticed the amazing performances of Kofi Kingston and Shelton Benjamin. I really hope both of them get a push.

Why do people keep saying that CM Punk will be the first not to cash in on his MITB win?

Mr. Kennedy was the first, was he not?

In regards to the match, I was underwhelmed. It seemed short, and Shelton botched what was supposed to be the spot of the match.

Bourne and Rey instead of Kane and Finlay would have been welcome here.

RESPONSE FROM KE: Kennedy actually never cashed in his opportunity. He lost the briefcase to Edge, who cashed in and won the title. Everyone with a briefcase who cashed in, won.

hbk might be mr. wrestlemania but shelton is definately mr. money in the bank. he continues to shine in this match despite not winning. i thought mvp or christian was going to win so i was very surprised that punk won.

I would expect a heel turn from Punk when he cashes it in. Isn't this what they planned originally last year?

This year's match was as good as previous years? With all those blotches (Shelton basically missing the flip dive off the ladder, Shelton not catching MVP after the sunset flip over the ladder, Christian missing the Unprettier off the ladder on CM Punk)? And the Hornswoggle spot was STUPID. Like he's gonna take out 7 guys (and they all just stood there and waited to take it).

Shelton Benjamin powerbombing MVP to the outside was sick looking. SB is a beast and it really showed in this match. He may not be "Mr. Charisma" but he deserves to be elivated past mid-card status

i share your disapiontment here kevin i mean has cm punk not won enough this year???
why do you think wwe is so hung up on him...?

YAWN really? Punk again? It's already been proven that WWE isn't behind Punk as a legit champion...

This match was exciting but flawed. Punk needs the right push and he will get over.

The creative team had to realize people would be disappointed with the result of the match, as he wasn't built up at all prior to Wrestlemania, plus, he just won last year, they better have a big payoff for this one.
I guess putting Bourne and Kendrick in this match would make for a super disappointing result.

I thought this match was great up until Punk won. My sister and I kind of did a wha...? NEVER have noticed Shelton until this match...why not tag him up with mvp, and let mvp be the mouth and shelton be the body?
