WWE drops subtle hint about Mickey Rourke’s role at WrestleMania

In a news release, WWE once again confirmed that Mickey Rourke will be appearing at WrestleMania, reiterating a statement that was issued by WWE chairman Vince McMahon back in January.

McMahon, however, only said that “Rourke will be in attendance at WrestleMania.” In yesterday’s release about Rourke’s appearance at the show, WWE wrote that “you never know what is going to happen at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. Will Mickey stand fast with his friends?”

I think it’s a lock that Rourke will leave his ringside seat and get in at least one punch on Jericho. And there’s your WrestleMania moment. That clip would be all over television and the Internet.

As for the people who have suggested that Steve Austin will make a surprise appearance at WrestleMania to confront Jericho, I don’t see that happening unless Austin decides to do it at the last minute. If WWE is planning on having Austin get involved in the Jericho match in some capacity, it would be incredibly stupid not to promote it ahead of time, because it would surely mean additional pay-per-view buys.

Not trying to dampen the spirit , and I'm really not , but with each passing day the whole Mickey Rourke "Wrestler"/ Wrestlemania bit gets old . Don't get me wrong , I hope they can really pull something off . I loved the movie and have viewed it several times. Just saying that with each passing day it becomes a little more dated and that if all the moons and stars were aligned a little earlier it would have been fantastic . Nobody could have predicted the success of the movie so if it can be milked , milk it .

Unrelated, but did you not see the TNA PPV on Sunday?

RESPONSE FROM KE: No.

i don't think there is nothing wrong with wwe not advertising stonecold if he is having a part in wrestlemania 25 i actually think it is kind of creative yes it will have more ppv buys if people know that he will have something to do with the ppv but it is wrestlemania and i think they want to have a surprise and make people wait in anticipation i think it is a good idea

and wooooooooooooo me and my friend will be at wrestlemania 25 we are driving

mr eck question for you. i know you said you will be at wrestlemania 25 this year but are you going to cover any of the fan access tour that they are having

RESPONSE FROM KE: Driving?! Wow, I admire your passion. I assume you are from Baltimore since your e-mail address has ravenfan in it.
Yes, I do plan on attending the Fan Axxess.

Jericho vs. Steamboat, Snuka and Piper really is a bad idea. Can you imagine the NBA bringing back Bird, McHale and Parish to play a one on three half time game against Lebron James during an All Star Game?

The WWE really will cheapen Wrestlemania if they follow through with this idea, not to mention tarnishing the images of Steamboat, Piper and Snuka (and indeed Jericho), win or lose.

If Rourke has to interfere to help the three of them win they will look even more weak.

And if this really is Jericho's Wrestlemania match then he should surely wonder again why he came back to the WWE to get his nose rubbed in this sorry stuff.

I am still holding out hope that something good will come from the Jericho vs Legends match. Also, hoping to see you at Mania. I'm a former Marylander that is now in College Station TX and my wife and I are making the trip to Houston. We both are hoping for good things for Jericho win, lose or draw

I agree with Mark. Bringing back the old guys to Westle Jericho isn't something I'd want to watch. It would nearly be embarrassing.

Here's a thought... what if these guys rocked up, then announced they wouldn't fight Jericho, but they had a friend who would. Then the friend turned out to be Mikey Rourke?? THAT would be awesome.

I also agree with Mark. This whole Jericho storyline had been a HUGE disappointment. I really didn't favor Rourke doing a match with Jericho but for the love of GOD why after weeks of serious heel work by Jericho and continous teasing of something HUGE to come are we having to settle for Team Jurassic???
Don't get me wrong. I have great respect for all of the Legends. They paved the way after all. But what is WWE creative actually smoking?

Come on guys, the Jericho/Legends match isn't all that bad. Sure, the scheduled match doesn't live up to the hype the WWE produced for it in the past few weeks, but I still think it will be entertaining.

I also have a thought. What if the Rourke/Flair involvement is a swerve? Meaning, what if Flair and Rourke double crossed the Legends and helped Jericho win the match? Then maybe (BIG MAYBE) Flair becomes the manager of Jericho later on? That would be cool. Does anyone else find this to be a possibility?
